When an agent goes missing, it’s all hands on deck.
Six months after discovering her magical talent, Rose Thorn hasn’t exactly mastered her abilities. Her supportive non-boyfriend, Yven ti’Ansha, has helped her along, and now his colleagues at the Division of Plants and Potions are teaching her how to use magic in combat—albeit painfully.
But Rose’s lesson plans fly out the window when one of DPP’s own goes missing. A siren—a rarity even among the peoples of the Pactlands—has vanished in the line of duty, having been embedded with a group of illegal producers in the Blue Ridge Mountains. As the other agents work every lead to find him, Rose is asked to use her farsight in the hope that she’ll see him before it’s too late.
Rose may be a farseer, but she’s barely trained. Now, when it’s needed the most, her vision is blank. Something is blocking her sight, but what?
And as the investigation continues, the agents begin to wonder whether their lost colleague was kidnapped…or whether the siren is luring them into danger.
Ash has always loved a good story. Her childhood bookshelves overflowed, and she refused to take notes in her copies of classroom novels because that felt like sacrilege. She wrote her first novel the summer after her freshman year of college and never looked back. (Granted, that novel was an unpublishable 270,000-word behemoth, but everyone has to start somewhere, right?)
After obtaining degrees in English and creative writing and taking a stab at magazine work, Ash decided to put her skillset to different use and went to law school. She then moved home to Alabama, where she works as an attorney. These days, Ash can be found outside of Montgomery with her inordinately fluffy Siberian husky, who loves long walks, car rides, and whatever Ash happens to be eating.
Omg! That ending though! Ugh! I almost took a star off for leaving off the way it did, but figured that's not fair. Just because the book left me wanting more isn't a bad thing. It's a sign of a great story. I love the way this author uses the simplest of details and weaves them in to become an integral part of the story when I wasn't expecting it. (To not spoil anything, think the snore remedy). Yes, that even confuses me. I literally just finished the story and I have to say I love these characters
Silent Siren was an enjoyable read and a continuation of a love story. As a previous reviewer mentioned this does end on a bit of a cliff hanger but I don't want to say too much about this as it coloured my read. This novel feels more like a traditional drug stake out with magical twists but it does introduce us to many new characters who might be all part of Rose's possible new life. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Rose is spending a weekend training with interdiction when an agent goes missing. Pulled into the mission because of her farsight, she struggles to see anything over the effects of a blinding potion the bas guys have taken, she tries to find at least one bad guy she can spy on. With information in hand the team gets to work, bringing Rose and Yven along. Good thing they did too! The end leaves you wanting more thats for sure!
I liked Rose Thorn in book one of this series and she grows on me more with every book (just like Sally the sentient vine…) Rose is a half elf and while her distant elf relatives won’t recognize her, she’s still training her abilities, including her psychic ones in farseeing, along with the help of Yven, a full elf who works in the bureaucratic side of the magical plant enforcement agency, and Gentle Breeze, the troll supervisor. When a siren goes missing, Rose is selected as part of the team to try to find them. This was a really fun book, both with the mystery part, trying to determine where the missing agent is and what’s going on there, and also with Rose and Yven, who have been quietly dancing around their feelings for several books. They can’t be together unless Yven takes a magical potion with terrible consequences and the star-crossed-lovers vibe is strong. And of course, I always enjoy seeing Sally. 5/5 stars.
The third book in the Rose Thorn series progresses both the plot and the development of her talents. I can’t wait to see where she’s headed. Please write faster Ash!
I’m loving this series so far. I think this is my favourite one in the series so far. There is one more book out and I’m not sure if it is the last one or if there is going to be more (I hope there is more)?
