In this action-packed mystery thriller by #1 bestselling author Blake Pierce, Cora Shields, 30, former Navy Seal turned FBI Special Agent, will stop at nothing to catch a killer—but she is stunned, after bending one rule too many, to find herself fired. At the pleading of a military friend, Cora scrutinizes a case long closed by local cops—and realizes that this case is far wider-reaching, and more dangerous, than she ever expected. On the outside, Cora Shields is a total badass. A Navy SEAL veteran and a top agent in the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, Cora has a reputation for doing whatever it takes to catch a killer. What no one knows, though, is that she’s a wreck on the inside, addicted to painkillers and deeply depressed.
Cora, working as a vigilante, is the only one who would dare take on this case.
She knows that if she succeeds, she can save a woman’s life in time.
And if she fails, she may just find herself behind bars for good.
A page-turning and harrowing crime thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured vigilante, the CORA SHIELDS series is a riveting mystery, packed with non-stop action, suspense, twists and turns, revelations, and driven by a breakneck pace that will keep you flipping pages late into the night.

Unhinged is another fabulous thriller, full of action, lots of fighting, and gun firing, and Cora leaping into the fights as if a superwoman, sometimes doing better sometimes not so much. In this story, she is a bit more human, and in fact, shows her feelings. She is very preoccupied with her family and the ending is an unexpected one. I wonder what will happen now! I thank the author for the ARC.
This was another fast-paced, action-packed book in the Cora Sheilds series. However, the others were satisfying in the way that Cora just took out the bad guys and was pretty much untouchable. This one was different, which was disappointing and kind of took away from the series. I'm excited for the next book to be released and see where it goes from here. Oh, and also, if I ever see the word wince/winced again, it'll be too soon 😬
Book 3 of this series. I still feel that a lot of this character is far fetched but I will be continuing to the next book. At least, the books are a short read. I got lazy with my reading on this book. Took reading breaks during the book rather than after. I am able to visualize the scenes as I am reading it. Overall this book has been average. Hopefully, it will get better in the next book of the series. Main character is growing on me. The cliffhanger at the end is what is making me move on to book 4.
This is the 4th Blake Pierce series I've read and once again it fell short of my expectations. I rated the others around 3 stars. I listened to the audiobook, thank goodness it was only just over 5 hours long. First, I have to state that I think the narrator's voice was not a good match for the story. Second, is Cora some kind of superhero? The events were just not believable. I feel I've given the author a fair shot and won't be delving into anymore of her books even if they are freebies.
Book #3 in the Cora Shields series. Former Navy Seal turned FBI Special Agent Cora is investigating the murders of women that seem to be ignored by the local police. Lots of action and family drama after Cora was dismissed from the FBI. Cora gets help from an unexpected source when she’s contacted by her sister’s old boyfriend who gives her an important clue in the form of love letters. Letters he didn’t write!
Cora is still trying to find out what happened to Rose. Her parents ask her to find out what happened to a woman they know. Her ex-FBI partner lets her know that Ogden is really out to get her & he shows up at her parents' house. She sends him away and begins her investigation and learns there is something bad going on involving local law enforcement. Things really heat up. Lots of action in this story and the ending leaves you wondering how she will ever get out of this mess!
Another fun and suspenseful read. In the many unbelievable situations, Cora Shields makes things happen, and it’s that which makes it thrilling. If only the editors could work on all the spelling mistakes in every book. On preorder for the next instalment.
This series has been a decent one so far. Some of the situations are quite unbelievable but it keeps your attention. The most distracting thing for me is the narrator who has an accent not matching that of the dialect the main character should have spoken. As someone from SWVA I can say they definitely should have found someone else to narrate.
