A true literature! A true masterpiece! All I have to say for now.

It’s quite curious how not even a single scene in The Banshees of Inisherin is not both desolate and hilarious. Each turn of events happens to be crushing and elevating at the same time. Some critics who accused McDonagh of spreading stereotypes are obviously unaware of what they deal with here: A satirical modern fairy tale in the form of an absurdist existentialist play that cares as much about realism as Beckett or the Grimm Brothers.
One of McDonagh’s ingenious tricks is to let everybody appear to be ridiculous, but also to make everyone have a really good point. It’s easy to understand Pádraic who just wants to rely on friendship and having a good old time without the need to be bigger than life at any time or at all, but it’s just as reasonable to follow Colm’s idea that wasting your time might just as well be the same as wasting your potential entirely. — Other tricks of the playwright are rather subtle. For example, the inciting incident for Colm’s decision to avoid Pádraic was the night Pádraic had presented him a two-hour monologue on donkey excrements. Now, perhaps such a topic doesn’t seem like a life-changing subject, yet, if Colm had been a better listener, things could have taken another course entirely.
Snubbed at the Oscars. Keeps winning hearts.

يبدأ السؤال الفلسفي عند هايدغر من الانشغال الفلسفي في "أحوال الوجود الأساسيّة". فالفلسفة هي في المقام الأول فعل التفلسف، وفعل التفلسف لا يبتدأ إلا على أرضية ما يسميه
Grundstimmung [المزاج الأساسي]،
أي ميل وجداني أساسي أو مزاج قاعدي. وليكون فعل التفلسف أصيلًا، فإن على الفكر أن ينشغل بتلك الأحوال الوجودية، تلك الأحوال التي تعتري الكينونة من حيث وجودها في العالم، مرمية في عالم الأشياء. لذلك نلحظ عند هايدغر هذا الانشغال بالتعرف على أحوال ذهنية ومزاجية يمكن وصفها بمزاج الوجود القاعدي، التي تتظاهر أو تتداخل في أحوال الموجودات والكائنات الظرفية والدائمة. الخوف والقلق والضجر أمثلة على أمزجة وجودية يمكن من خلال الوقوف عندها مطولًا الإتيان بفلسفة أصيلة.
من هنا فإن الضجر، لا بشكله السطحي، أو بالأحرى من خلال شكله السطحي الظرفي ــــ حالة ضجر من شيء ما أو من شخص ما أو من عادة ما أو من سلوك ماــــ ما هو إلا عرض متلازمة الضجر الوجودي التي تستبد بالكائن بما هو كذلك. ثمة ضجر وجودي أو عميق وثمة آخر سطحي وعابر. وما تجاوز الثاني أو فحص الثاني في تعدد وتنوع وتكرر أحواله في كل شيء وكل كائن لبلوغ الأول إلا ضرب من ضروب التفلسف الأكثر أصالة. ومهمة الفلسفة هنا هي الكشف عن الوجدان الأساسي الأكثر عمقًا في وجودنا.
الضجر هو إحدى تلك الحالات الوجدانية الوجودية، وهو في علاقته بفكرة الزمن ثيمة لفلسفة أصيلة، هو مسائلة فلسفية أصيلة وراديكالية ل"مسلمات الوجود"، أي لمسلمة أو معطى أن الموجود موجود. لا تحتاج إذن لمعالجة هذه الحال الوجودي إلا للمعطيات الأولى والمسلمات الأولى، أو لمكونات الموجود الأكثر أولية، مثل بعض البشر وبعض الحيوانات وبعض الأشياء. لنتذكر مثلًا القصص الفلسفية المتنوعة والمطروقة التي تحاول عرض مشكلة الأخلاق أو اللغة أو الفطرة، أنت لا تحتاج إلا لفرد أو اثنين في غابة لتكوّن مختبرًا فلسفيًا. ثم من بعد ذلك وعلى هامش هذا الوجود البدائي، تتصور مجتمعًا أو مجتمعات بشرية أكثر تطورًا، لتكتشف من خلال المثال النموذجي الأواليات التي تبحث عنها في بنية تاريخية أو اجتماعية معقدة.
وخصائص [الزمن الضجري] تتمثل في إنّه زمن ثقيل وبطيء وخانق، الأشياء والأحداث لا تجري فيه كما يتوقع منها أو كما يرغب فيها جريانًا يضفي على الزمن حركة ما أو يبث فيه حياة ما، ومن هنا يبدو الزمن معوقًا ومعاقًا فارغًا ومفرغًا، لا يحفل بشيء ولا نحفل به بشيء. في الضجر استطالة لحاضر مفرغ من الأحداث، أو انكشاف لطبيعة ما يكون عليه الزمن دون وقوع أشياء وحدوث أحداث، انكشاف لطبيعة زمن بلا وعي بالزمن أو [ما قبل] الوعي بالزمن، لزمن بلا تاريخ بما يعنيه هذا من تكرار واختلاف الكائنات والأشياء.
ويقارب هايدغر الضجر في علاقته مع الزمن واصفًا ثلاث أحوال لعلاقة الكائن مع الزمن الضجري: الحال الأولى: تمضية الوقت،

حيث نفعل شيئًا أو نتشاغل بشيء ما لتمرير وقت ضجري، نقوم بأي شيء أو نقول أي شيء أو نلتهي بأي شي، وخصيصة هذا الانشغال إنّه مشتت وسطحي، لأنّ الزمن الضجري يمسك بنا أو يحبسنا. والحال الثانية: الانحباس في الزمن الضجري
Hingehaltenheit
حيث يستبّد بنا الزمن الضجري بمسك بتلابينا ويشتت ذهننا ويستولي على مخيلتنا، هنا ننجرف فيه من ظرف إلى حالة مديدة ومستقرة، تختلط مع مزاج اكتئابي. والحال الثالثة:
Leergelassenheit
هو شعور الخواء والفراغ الذي يتركه الزمن الضجري فينا بعد أن يسيطر على مساحة واسعة كياننا ووجودنا.
هذه الخصائص التكوينية للزمن الضجري أو للمزاج الضجري في علاقتها مع الزمن تتوفر في أي حالة ضجر، عميق أو سطحي، عابر أو مستقر، وجودي أو ظرفي. ومن خلال امتداد وتشابك وتعقد العلاقة بين هذه العناصر يمكن تصور المرور من أحوال الضجر السطحية والظرفية إلى الضجر العميق والوجودي:
١. الشكل الأول هو الضجر من [شيء ما]: مثل الضجر من الانتظار أو الضجر من شيء ما. والمثال المطروق على هذه الحالة هو انتظار شيء ما، مثل انتظار القطار، حيث يمر الوقت بطيئا ريثما يصل القطار، نحاول التشاغل بأشياء دون أن ننشغل أو نستمتع بها حقًا، ذهننا منصرف أو مشتت في زمن ضجري هو زمن ضجر الانتظار. ولا غرابة أن تكون هذه الأشياء التي ننشغل بها سطحية بحد ذاتها أو من حيث طبيعة وطريقة انشغالنا وتشاغلنا بها. هنا يتظاهر الملل في حالة نريد التخلص منها سريعًا.
٢. والثاني هو [الضجر بينما نقوم بشيء ما]. في هذا الحال من أحوال الملل حيث لا يكون الفرق في طول الزمن الضجري، وإنما في عمقه وشدته، وفي قدرته على احتلال مساحة أكبر من كينونة الكائن. والمثال عليه هو انشغالي في بعض المناسبات الاجتماعية، الدعوة لحفل أو مؤتمر، أذهب أقضي أوقات طويلة بالحديث والأكل والشرب، بالنشاط الذهني والجسدي، ثم أعود مساء إلى بيتي أو أفرغ من هذا النشاط بعد مدة، وأشعر بحالة ضجر خانق تأتي على حاضري وماضي القريب. في هذه الحالة يتحول النشاط بكامله، ليس فقط كما في المثال الأول الانشغال بسيكارة التبغ ريثما يصل القطار، بل المساء والمؤتمر والحفل، بل ومدة عمل لعامين أو علاقة لأشهر، إلى زمن ضجري أو تمضية وقت الزمن الضجري، تمرير الوقت والضجر. هنا يكون الشعور بالفراغ والشعور بالأسر للزمن الضجري أيضًا أشد وأعمق. وفي هذه الحالة نتعامل مع امتداد وتعمق وتأصل الضجر في الشكل الاولى باتجاه الضجر بالشكل الثالث، الوجودي والعميق.
٣ . [الضجر من الوجود-في-العالم]. في هذا الحالة يتظاهر الملل في كل شيء، لا يعود في الإمكان التعرف على [تواسط] لظاهريات الزمن الضجري، انتظار أو فشل أو مجتمع أو دولة، أو أي شيء محدد. الضجر يأتي هنا من كل مكان ومن كل شيء ومن كل شخص، الملل هنا قارة وتاريخ كامل، ثقافة وحضارة بأكملها.

يعود المؤلف والمخرج بالضبط إلى مكونات أولية تمامًا إلى أحوال بدائية [نسبيًا]، لمعالجة مشكل فلسفي بسيط وأصيل، وفي أصالته وبساطته تنكشف مشكلة وجودية تعتري الدازاين. لا تحتاج لكثير من الكلمات، لا تحتاج لحوارات متخمة بالمصطلحات والمفاهيم، ولا لمجتمع مدني ببنى غاية في التعقيد والتنظيم. صديق وصديقه، جزيرة معزولة، وعي حزين مكتف بذاته، زمن بطيء فقير بمكوناته، أحداث قليل وبطيئة، تاريخ وثقافة شحيحة قنوعة. لا شيء يحدث هنا إلا كما لو إنك تنتظر أحقابًا ليتغير شيء ما. لكن المفارقة تكمن في إنّ أحدهم صار يقيس ضجره على وقع الحرب الأهلية، ثمة شيء يحدث هناك، على الضفة الأخرى والممتدة من اليابسة، حركة وصوت وزمن يجري فعلا، الزمن هناك يتحول لتاريخ أو يصير تاريخا، بفعل ماذا؟ بفعل الحروب وبفعل الثقافات وبفعل الحضارات، للروح الكلي والعقل الكوني مفاعليه هناك، في جدلياته الجذلة والحزينة ح��كة وصخب تبدد الضجر الأول والملل الوجودي. ذلك على الأقل هنا بالنسبة لمن قرر أن يتمرد على وعيه الحزين المكتفي بذاته بوعي ميلانخولي ثقافي، ليحمل صديقة البسيط واللطيف ثقل سؤال الضجر الوجودي، أي ليجد في صديقه هذا موضوعًا أو عرضًا للضجر، حيث أمسى فجأة مملًا إلى حدّ لا يحتمل أكثر من بتر أصابع اليد التي لم تكن إلّا علامة على إن ثقل السؤال يتجاوز عرضية [الصديق الممل].
لكن، يمكن لنا أن نتوقع أن دواعي وأحوال الضجر الوجودي التي تعتري وتثقل الحركة والصورة والكلام والفكر على تلك الجزيرة المعزولة وتجد موضوعها في القطيعة المفاجئة بين صديقين حتى بداية الفلم؛ لن تختفي هكذا ببساطة في حالات مقارنة متخيلة أو حقيقية. لنا فقط أن نلحظ الفروق في الظاهريات السيكولوجية والاجتماعية ومفاعليها التاريخية والسياسيّة. فهذه يمكن أن تتكرر ولو بسرعات وشدات متناهية تبدد الملل والضجر والسآمة بالتعب والإرهاق والاحتراق والقلق والخوف على الضفة الأخرى من التاريخ. للمشاهد كما للمتأمل على ضفة البحر في صوت الحرب من الضفة الأخرى للضجر/للوجود أن يستنتج بسهولة إن الفرق هو فقط في السرعات التاريخية للأزمنة الضجرية، أو في تكثيف الأحوال الضجرية من خلال تقصير الفواصل بينها، تسريع الأحداث الضجرية لو صح التعبير. على سبيل المثال أن نتصور حقبة ضجرية حيث محتوى الزمن فيها بطيء وشحيح، وحقبة أخرى يكون المحتوى مضغوطًا ومسرعًا. في تكرار الحروب الأهلية والقلاقل الاجتماعية والكوارث الطبيعية والخصومات الفكرية كما في تكرار المشاكل اليومية بسرعات أكبر من خلال عيشها مباشرة أو بالوساطة تبديدٌ عرضي للضجر الوجودي من خلال تقصير فواصله الأولية ورفع تواترها، ضغطها أو مدها في الزمن. من هنا نفهم المعنى الأعمق لتحليلات الضجر في الحداثة، من مثل الكلام عن [دمقرطة لملل] أو [رأسمالية للملل]، بوصفه على ما أرى تحليلًا لضغط وتسريع الأحوال الضجرية. كان باسكال هو من لاحظ في فجر الحداثة أن الشعور بالضجر بدأ يتفشى في الطبقات الدنيا بعد أن كان حكرا على النبالة!، لم يعد الضجر تخمة، صار فقرًا أيضًا.

يعود المؤلف والمخرج بالضبط إلى مكونات أولية تمامًا إلى أحوال بدائية [نسبيًا]، لمعالجة مشكل فلسفي بسيط وأصيل، وفي أصالته وبساطته تنكشف مشكلة وجودية تعتري الدازاين. لا تحتاج لكثير من الكلمات، لا تحتاج لحوارات متخمة بالمصطلحات والمفاهيم، ولا لمجتمع مدني ببنى غاية في التعقيد والتنظيم. صديق وصديقه، جزيرة معزولة، وعي حزين مكتف بذاته، زمن بطيء فقير بمكوناته، أحداث قليل وبطيئة، تاريخ وثقافة شحيحة قنوعة. لا شيء يحدث هنا إلا كما لو إنك تنتظر أحقابًا ليتغير شيء ما. لكن المفارقة تكمن في إنّ أحدهم صار يقيس ضجره على وقع الحرب الأهلية، ثمة شيء يحدث هناك، على الضفة الأخرى والممتدة من اليابسة، حركة وصوت وزمن يجري فعلا، الزمن هناك يتحول لتاريخ أو يصير تاريخا، بفعل ماذا؟ بفعل الحروب وبفعل الثقافات وبفعل الحضارات، للروح الكلي والعقل الكوني مفاعليه هناك، في جدلياته الجذلة والحزينة ح��كة وصخب تبدد الضجر الأول والملل الوجودي. ذلك على الأقل هنا بالنسبة لمن قرر أن يتمرد على وعيه الحزين المكتفي بذاته بوعي ميلانخولي ثقافي، ليحمل صديقة البسيط واللطيف ثقل سؤال الضجر الوجودي، أي ليجد في صديقه هذا موضوعًا أو عرضًا للضجر، حيث أمسى فجأة مملًا إلى حدّ لا يحتمل أكثر من بتر أصابع اليد التي لم تكن إلّا علامة على إن ثقل السؤال يتجاوز عرضية [الصديق الممل].
لكن، يمكن لنا أن نتوقع أن دواعي وأحوال الضجر الوجودي التي تعتري وتثقل الحركة والصورة والكلام والفكر على تلك الجزيرة المعزولة وتجد موضوعها في القطيعة المفاجئة بين صديقين حتى بداية الفلم؛ لن تختفي هكذا ببساطة في حالات مقارنة متخيلة أو حقيقية. لنا فقط أن نلحظ الفروق في الظاهريات السيكولوجية والاجتماعية ومفاعليها التاريخية والسياسيّة. فهذه يمكن أن تتكرر ولو بسرعات وشدات متناهية تبدد الملل والضجر والسآمة بالتعب والإرهاق والاحتراق والقلق والخوف على الضفة الأخرى من التاريخ. للمشاهد كما للمتأمل على ضفة البحر في صوت الحرب من الضفة الأخرى للضجر/للوجود أن يستنتج بسهولة إن الفرق هو فقط في السرعات التاريخية للأزمنة الضجرية، أو في تكثيف الأحوال الضجرية من خلال تقصير الفواصل بينها، تسريع الأحداث الضجرية لو صح التعبير. على سبيل المثال أن نتصور حقبة ضجرية حيث محتوى الزمن فيها بطيء وشحيح، وحقبة أخرى يكون المحتوى مضغوطًا ومسرعًا. في تكرار الحروب الأهلية والقلاقل الاجتماعية والكوارث الطبيعية والخصومات الفكرية كما في تكرار المشاكل اليومية بسرعات أكبر من خلال عيشها مباشرة أو بالوساطة تبديدٌ عرضي للضجر الوجودي من خلال تقصير فواصله الأولية ورفع تواترها، ضغطها أو مدها في الزمن. من هنا نفهم المعنى الأعمق لتحليلات الضجر في الحداثة، من مثل الكلام عن [دمقرطة لملل] أو [رأسمالية للملل]، بوصفه على ما أرى تحليلًا لضغط وتسريع الأحوال الضجرية. كان باسكال هو من لاحظ في فجر الحداثة أن الشعور بالضجر بدأ يتفشى في الطبقات الدنيا بعد أن كان حكرا على النبالة!، لم يعد الضجر تخمة، صار فقرًا أيضًا.

McDonagh writes beautifully, offers achingly sad situations for vividly depicted people, and has a savage Grand Guignol sense of humour which makes me laugh and wince at the very same moment. His last two plays ('Hangmen' and 'A Very Very Very Dark Matter') have been throwaway. His last two films ('Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri') have been immense.

I’m in the biggest reading slump of my life and I’m kind of migrating towards movies. But I decided to pick this up from my local bookshop. The dialogue is so incredible and I just love everything about it. I love Everything Everywhere All At Once but Banshees DESERVED that best original screenplay win. I cant think of a better one!

This is one of my favourite films of last year and I’m a huge fan of Martin McDonagh’s work. Darkly funny and emotional, I enjoyed this every bit as much as the film.

Believe it or not but I'm a teary fecking mess but tbh what was I doing reading this script anyways???? Smh. Martin McDonagh is a fucking genius (and randomly in a longterm relationship with the writer of fleabag, Phoebe Waller-bridge. )so seeing just how darkly beautiful this script was on its own was expected.
I always thought this film was about male friendship, how important it is to have each other. And the power of love blah blah blah. Like that it was redemptive but I'd obviously not been paying attention to the films title because it's totally not about that. No ,instead it's about our propensity to allow bad things to happen or cause them ,with only our own selves as priority. It's a tirade about selfishness and self centeredness. Everyone here only has themselves in mind:
Colm disregards a longterm relationship with no motivation beyond being able to. Not keeping in mind the person he shares this relationship with.
Or
how Pádraic ignores Colms boundaries despite the extreme consequences doing so cause.
Or
how everyone in Insherin just accepts and rationalize Dominics continued sexual abuse at the hands of his father.
The last or being what I think is the most important because it makes all of them the banshee Colm discussed in this reviews opening quote.

the reviews on here are probably biased because, most likely, only people who liked the film will read its script, but i’d still like to add my two cents. granted, reading scripts of films you already know both augments and weakens the experience. although it allows you to relive a film but in a seemingly more intimate setting, it also takes away your own imagination. as far as film scripts go, i felt rather ambivalent about this one. on the one hand, i would have loved some more detail. on the other hand, this really speaks to the work that happened on set; the director and actors' ability to bring the script to life.

Utterly brilliant.
I loved the film and saw it when it came out, and felt I wanted to delve into it more, so reading this screenplay felt like the best way.
This story is so funny and so sad and heartfelt at the same time, it’s truly a masterful piece of work.
Read it, watch it, read it again, watch it again. Consume this in any way possible.

Without a doubt, one of the best screenplays ever written. The complexity of every scene being both maudlin and comedic is a skill few authors can master. All while telling two stories simultaneously: that of Colm and Pádraic, and of the Irish Civil War. This is an absolute masterpiece, like.

I loved the movie and i loved reading the script. Glad it wasn`t novelised. A haunting story even if you don`t believe in Banshees. Hope my Irish ancestors had a better time of it then this poor mob. Great.

Disclaimer: I haven't read the play, but when it comes to drama, it's appropriate to talk about any stage or screen interpretation. Especially when the author adapts. So, I watched the film to make sure for the second time that Martin McDonagh: 1. incredibly talented, 2. not my playwright. The first time, if anything, was with "Three Billboards on the Border of Abbing Missouri," which he also shot based on his own play, making the world go crazy for this film a few years ago. I do not share the general enthusiasm, the gloomy depressive aesthetics of McDonagh, which asserts with every frame, every mise en scene: "There is no truth on earth, But there is no truth above it" and "Everything is for the worse in this worst of worlds" is not close to me.
What is "Banshee Inisherina" about? The beginning of the last century, a village on a meager and boring Irish island, everyone knows everything about everyone, life according to the saying: "at one end you sneezed, and at the other they say to you, "Be healthy." From the entertainment pub, you can still read books, but it is rather perceived by others as unnecessary, and in some ways even dangerous whim. The community is close-knit and at the same time disunited, unites everyone except for the Sunday sermon, against this background the friendship of the simple-minded Padraick (Colin Farrell) and the more refined Colm (Brandon Gleason) looks like a nice exception.
Until the eldest of them, Colm, decides to stop communicating overnight. Friendship, it's like love. It is less intense emotionally, but penetrates into the soul much deeper, you remember most of your infatuations with this: "well, I was a fool," and always respectfully and gratefully about friends. And suddenly: I don't want to communicate with you anymore, because you're stupid and boring, you drag me down, take away the time that I can give to creative self-realization. And you're standing there like you've been hit with a dust bag. Remember. when my friend Tanya in the third grade suddenly became friends with Natasha, I was crazy with jealousy and pain, followed them, persuaded another Tanya to walk with me by Natasha's house, laughing loudly. About ten times.
Patrick has no one to blame for the destruction of friendship, he was simply abandoned and he goes crazy with resentment and pain. He could find solace in friendship with his beautiful and clever sister Siobhan (Kerry Condon), who is much more lonely on this island, but does not complain. He could have thrown himself into work, but at least make the house more cozy, But no, he chooses to suffer, pours out his soul to the local fool Dominic (beautiful, beautiful Barry Keoghan) tries to sort things out, more often with drunken eyes, than he pushes Colm away from himself even more. And in the end, he-attention, this is going to be an important moment - announces that he will cut off his finger with sheep shearing scissors every time Padraick bothers him.

Из развлечений паб, можно еще книжки читать, но это скорее воспринимается окружающими как ненужная, а в чем-то даже опасная блажь. Община сплоченная и одновременно разобщенная, объединяет всех разве что воскресная проповедь, на этом фоне дружба простоватого Патрика (Колин Фаррелл) и более рафинированного Колма (Брендон Глисон) выглядит приятным исключением.
До тех пор, пока старший из них Колм не решает в одночасье прекратить общения. Дружба, она же как любовь. Менее интенсивна в эмоциональном плане, но проникает в душу куда глубже, о большинстве своих влюбленностей вспоминаешь с таким: "ну и дура же я была", а о друзьях всегда уважительно и с благодарностью. И вдруг: я больше не хочу с тобой общаться, потому что ты тупой и скучный, ты тянешь меня вниз, отнимаешь время, которое я могу отдать творческой самореализации. И ты такой стоишь, как пыльным мешком ударенный. Помню. когда моя подруга Таня в третьем классе вдруг стала дружить с Наташей, я с ума сходила от ревности и боли, следила за ними, подговорила другую Таню пройти со мной под ручку мимо Наташиного дома, громко смеясь. Примерно десять раз.
Патрику некого винить в разрушении дружбы, его просто бросили и он сходит с ума от обиды и боли. Мог бы найти утешение в дружбе со своей красавицей и умницей сестрой Шивон (Керри Кондон), которая на этом острове куда более одинока, однако не жалуется. Мог бы с головой уйти в работу, да хоть бы домишко сделать более уютным, Но нет, он выбирает страдать, изливает душу местному дурачку Доминику (прекрасный, прекрасный Барри Кеоган) пытается выяснять отношения, чаще с пьяных глаз, чем еще больше отталкивает от себя Колма. И в конце концов тот - внимание, сейчас будет важный момент - объявляет, что будет отрезать себе ножницами для стрижки овец по пальцу всякий раз, как Патрик его побеспокоит.
Как по-вашему, это нормально? Если вы считаете, что да, то, простите. вы ненормальны. И не говорите мне, что это такая метафора, где Колм играет роль интеллигенции, которая отстраняется от народа, олицетворяемого Патриком, скорее готовая выхолостить себя, чем снова сблизиться. А где-то там, за проливом, расстреливают борцов за свободу страны, на что тому и другому насрать. А самые умные и потенциально востребованные (Шивон) эмигрируют, не находя своим талантам применения и достойной оплаты. А наименее социально защищенные, хотя потенциально смышленые (Доминик) гибнут. А мрачные фурии (миссис как-ее-там) продолжают каркать.
Так вот, не говорите про метафору, тропы должны соотноситься с повествовательной логикой, только тогда в них есть смысл. Прометей прикован к скале и его печень клюет орел, но он принес людям огонь и обучил ремеслам. Один отдал глаз за мед поэзии. Орфей отправился в ад за Эвридикой. За каким хреном кромсает себя Колм? По принципу "назло бабушке отморожу уши"? Но встречая в обыденной жизни людей, ведущих себя таким образом, мы относимся к ним так, как они заслуживают - как к нуждающимся в принудительном лечении.
Я не хочу сказать, что фильм плох, он замечательно хорош, в каком-то смысле он совершенство, и умом я понимаю, как безупречны пейзажные картины скудной островной природы, ни разу не прекрасные, что уж там прекрасного в этой дикой бесприютности? Как хороши крупные планы, актерская игра, идея о деструктивности вражды, которая утихнет, а восстанавливать порушенное придется беспалыми руками, и всякое такое. Но ни умом, ни сердцем, принять этого не могу.

So rich and vibrant with its themes, especially ones that paryicularly resonate with me. A big ol bag of laughs and cries as is to be expected from the great man. Cant wait to see it on the big screen.

We have seen The Banshees of Inisherin yesterday and what a joy, a treat this motion picture is, it looks like it is the best by far, ahead of Tar, where Cate Blanchet shines as usual, only the main character is not really the one we would love to see around, a lesbian in a quite negative (well, complex is more like it, but still, she has some dark sides that make you shiver, spoiler alert) role, which is a premiere in some ways.
Were this space to have a real audience, I would need to justify the above, or else face public opprobrium, let us just say that roles for the LGBTQ+ community have been modeled to show a difference, you could not make those minorities the ‘bad guy, woman or other’, because of the history, only the equality seems to have been achieved, and now you can watch Tar unleash the dark materials on people…
The Banshees is a real feast, makes me think of Parasite as a recent revelation, a film made in the last few years that manages to almost astonish in its daring, complexity, surprises, solutions, themes and freshness, the cast of the acclaimed In Bruges reunites, less Ralph Fiennes, but the two leading actors giving marvelous performances, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson both deserve the Oscars, for best actor in a leading and supporting role respectively, just as Kerry Condon should get hat and all other cinematic awards for her presence as Siobhan, the sister of poor Padraic, a very sad fellow who gets quite angry at one stage.
This film has it all, serious themes, humor you can seldom find, if often bloody and very dark…there is discussion of religion, how God does not care about miniature donkeys – and he should, let me refer to the fabulous The Reivers by William Faulkner http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/10/t... where the great Nobel Prize winner explains some of the psychology of the donkey ‘he knows you do not love him, and feels insulted when you pet him…the donkey would be the smartest animal, followed by cats, dogs and lastly horses’ – but he is very much against self-mutilation
Colm is confessing to the priest, but the latter is informed and knows about the quarrel between the former and Padraic – in fact, Padraic is somehow the victim to begin with, he is dull, but a good fellow and had done nothing to deserve the complete and unexpected rejection from somebody who used to be his drinking partner – and when asked how does he know, he retorts that this is a small island.
One of the most amazing things about this marvelous film is that it is apparently so simple as to make one doubt if this could really be one of the best films of 2022 – and again, it is not just one of the, but the very best I have seen –
We have these two men, Colm and Padraic, who had been drinking and spending time together, up to the point where the former decides he does not like the latter anymore, and wants to have nothing to do with him in the future (spoiler alerts coming) because he is such a dull fellow, and he has little time left.
Now we contemplate the theme of the meaning of life, the passing of time with worthwhile endeavors, the need to have meaningful goals and then commit to them, something explained in the wondrous The How of Happiness by Sonja Lyubomirsky http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/07/t...-‘ Happiness Activity No 10: Committing to Your Goals-picking one, two or three significant goals that are meaningful to you and devoting time and effort to pursue them’
Colm wants to compose music, mentions Mozart – everybody knows about him, Padraic denies having heard of the composer, and thus ‘out goes your theory’ – as one composer of the seventeenth century – he will be corrected by clever, well-read Siobhan…who will have to leave this place, or else she will get entangled and sucked into the emptiness, the solitude, banality of the island…they are all dull, as she says
Padraic is hilarious when he mentions Beoven (if he did say that) he uses a name that suggests he is thinking of Beethoven, but the uneducated islander does not come close to the real name of the Magister Ludi, or better said just close enough for the audience to laugh at the hint and the ignorance…
Colm has had enough of dullness and invites the public to meditate, use introspection, think if we do the best we can to avid wasting our own time – Seneca has said that life is not short, we have time, only we waste so much with useless endeavors http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/t...
the man takes a drastic decision and will not talk with the dull Padraic anymore, he only has a few years left as it is, and people do not remember the ‘good, ordinary folks’, as aforementioned, it is Mozart and the great that will stand the test of time, and Colm seems to be concentrated on that…he does have a lapse though.
When Padraic gets drunk and starts showing courage, standing up for himself and confronting and putting some hard truths out, Colm says he now likes him again…there is the problem of the policeman, who is abusing his son, Dominic, and who ones kicks Padraic to the ground and is in turn knocked off by Colm…poor Dominic is infatuated (I am not sure if love is the right word) with Siobhan, but he has no chance, the difference between them is greater in what they know, intelligence, than it is in years, and the woman may find a way out of this quagmire, island where almost all are dull, or just very peculiar http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/r...
Were this space to have a real audience, I would need to justify the above, or else face public opprobrium, let us just say that roles for the LGBTQ+ community have been modeled to show a difference, you could not make those minorities the ‘bad guy, woman or other’, because of the history, only the equality seems to have been achieved, and now you can watch Tar unleash the dark materials on people…

The Banshees of Inisherin Review: Emotions Unleashed (English + Español)

I watched the movie over six months ago, but regardless of the time elapsed and the countless films I've seen since, The Banshees of Inisherin remains etched in my memory. It's striking how a film so tinged with melancholy and despair can be so unforgettable.
The script absolutely blew me away. Being able to read it and relive the scenes was such a rewarding experience. I was utterly captivated by the sublime descriptions of the characters' emotions. These short yet evocative passages provided an even deeper insight into the emotional landscape of their lives.
What's truly astonishing is how the dialogues, not the descriptions, drive the narrative. Yes, there are actions, as with any film, but it's the way the lines are delivered that holds the key in Martin McDonagh's screenplay.
Let's talk about the characters. From the very first page, I felt a connection with Pádraic. He's a perfect metaphor for the sensation of unease, that bewildering feeling of helplessness when life throws curveballs we can't control. If we lack mental strength, we might spiral into a self-destructive loop, just like the one he shares with Colm.
A special shout-out to Mrs. McCormick, my favorite character. Her role becomes more evident in the script, showcasing her wisdom and adding the magical realism touch that the movie needed. McCormick, the most knowledgeable character in the story, enchants with her presence throughout the script.
In conclusion, The Banshees of Inisherin has quickly become one of my all-time favorite stories. It's a powerful blend of intense emotions and a depressive melancholy wrapped around an overwhelming friendship. I'll undoubtedly reread the script and rewatch the movie.

Hace más de 6 meses que vi la película, y aunque han pasado tantos meses hay momentos claves en ella que no se han ido de mi memoria, sin importar cuántas películas vea, The Banshees of Inisherin es única por lo melancólica, y depresiva que puede llegar a ser.
Me encantó el guión. Poder leerlo y revivir las escenas fue una experiencia gratificante. Me quedo con las descripciones sublimes del sentir de los personajes. Son párrafos pequeños, pero perfectos para entender aún más el contexto emocional de lo que están viviendo.
Estoy muy sorprendido por la poca cantidad de descripciones, es abrumador como los diálogos son el hilo conductor de la historia. Hay acciones como toda película, pero la forma en la que se dicen las cosas es clave en el guión de Martin McDonagh.
En cuanto a los personajes. Desde la primera página simpatizo con Pádraic. Es una metáfora perfecta al sentimiento de desasosiego. El no entender porque pasan cosas en la vida que se escapan de nuestro control y si no tenemos la suficiente fortaleza mental para sopesarlas, podemos entrar en un bucle destructivo como en el que él entra con Colm.
Mención especial a Mrs McCormick. Es mi personaje favorito. En el guión queda más demostrado su papel, lo sabia que es, y le da el toque perfecto de realismo mágico que necesita la película. McCormick es la que más sabe en toda la historia, y es fascinante su participación en todo el guión.
Para concluir, me quedo con una de mis favoritas historias de siempre. The Banshees of Inisherin es una mezcla de emociones gigantes, y una melancolía depresiva sobre una amistad abrumadora. Sin duda lo volveré a leer y veré la película de nuevo.

For the first time I'm rating a book I did not read. I just found the movie so mindblowing that I had to include it on my shelf of Irish literature. I had little idea of what the story was about and thought I was walking into a quirky Irish comedy with interesting characters. But, it slowly turned dark. Wonderful anti-war theme. Why are these two fighting? The same was asked of the Irish Civil War which plays out in the background. BUt, once engaged, the collateral damage linflicted eads to escalation after escalation into straight madness.

With my limited knowledge of screenwriting there is no doubt McDonagh is a master of his craft. A beautiful candid tale of relationships set within the backdrop of civil unrest of Ireland in the 20s. These two themes, friendship and country, run flawlessly parallel and mirror each other in ways that can so easily be overlooked. Funny and heartbreaking and will stay with me for a very long time.
