Another American carrier was hit by the Chinese, this time from their vaunted hypersonic ship-killer missiles. The United States must respond or jeopardize losing the task forces meant to keep China from the South China Sea and Taiwan. In doing so, they run the risk of escalating the conflict beyond its current regional confinement.
The hostilities between China and Taiwan are in full swing, with both sides exchanging long-range missile fire. China’s invasion fleets are gathered in their ports, ready to put to sea. Taiwan braces for the worst while the United States continues to press the undersea battles in order to be able to assist.
Will Taiwan be able to hold back the first Chinese foray?
John O'Brien is a former Air Force fighter instructor pilot who transitioned to Special Operations for the latter part of his career gathering his campaign ribbon for Desert Storm. Immediately following his military service, John became a firefighter/EMT with a local department. Along with becoming a firefighter, he fell into the Information Technology industry in corporate management. Currently, John is writing full-time.
As a former marathon runner, John lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and can now be found kayaking out in the waters of Puget Sound, mountain biking in the Capital Forest, hiking in the Olympic Peninsula, or pedaling his road bike along the many scenic roads.
The Chinese using their ship-killer missiles have once again targeted an American carrier and the US must respond but how much as they don't want an all out war. They have to stop China from getting control of the South China Sea and Taiwan. The Chinese have already started a secret invasion of Taiwan and both sides are locked in deadly battles while the US is aiding in undersea battles to assist Taiwan. I recommend this book and series to any fan of the military genre with epic battles.
4/5. Well, this series will definitely consist of more than four volumes. Volume four, published just over a month ago, deals with China’s invasion of Taiwan’s western Penghu Islands. It deals in detail with combat operations of light and mechanized infantry forces as well as logistics on both sides of the conflict.
Lots of attention of different fights with time spent on different characters, some of whom we have met in previous books. Loved the twists and turns each side comes up with in tactics in order to get ahead on the other side, only to have the other side turn it around with their own tactic adaptations. Best book so far for me! Good narrator(I am listening to the series with Audible0.
Very good action descriptions. Good character development. Recommended for any lover of military fiction or history. Taiwanese do not speak Mandarin though. A small error by the author.
I'm a retired P3 crewman and I'm very familiar with the tactics and the area of ASW. I read all four books back to back I think there could have been a Fifth one.
I love the concept of these books but god does the author like intense battle scenes too much. Sadly I won’t be bothering with the rest of the series after this which is a crying shame as the concept is brilliant
Well paced action, and solid plot development. The author’s sense of storytelling provides for a good yarn. I look forward to starting the next book in the series.
