Perfect series for fans of Peter Brandvold, R.O. Lane, and Casey Nash.

Revenge is hollow succor.

Cordell Manning had it all. As Sheriff of Sorrow Creek, he had the trust and respect of his townsfolk. And his reputation for justice was known far beyond the borders of his community.

Then it all changed.

Manning’s family was taken from him, leaving behind a festering wounded heart. And little to live for.

Now, an old enemy has returned to Sorrow Creek to kick the former sheriff while he is down. But Cordell Manning will have to find out if the scales of justice still balance when weighed down with blood.

Sometimes it is better to let Sleeping Dogs Lie

Sleeping Dogs Lie is the first book in the six book Sentinel Series.

Don’t miss this classic western adventure series full of action, grit, heart, and soul!

In a world ruled by Yellowstone and all its spinoffs, we need more western, tough guy books. Chuck Buda is an old ranch hand at spinning wild west yarns. Sleeping Dogs Lie is tougher than a ten cent steak and sure to put a yee in your haaa. Rustle up a copy and enjoy.

Incredible Start to a Series

With Sleeping Dogs Lie, Chuck Buda leaves the weird and supernatural behind and delivers a pure western. But don’t think for a moment that the trademark brutality, honest emotion, and genuine characters that shine in Buda’s backlog aren’t front and center. Sleeping Dogs Lie is Chuck Buda at his finest.

I grew up with my dad watching westerns, and though it was never my favorite genre, it has a place in my heart. This book brought all those feelings back, wrapped in a story of love, loss, revenge, and redemption. Visceral and violent, this is a tale only Chuck Buda could tell.

The Sentinel Series is must read material, and Sleeping Dogs Lie is a triumphant introduction.

Great beginning to a western saga. Disgraced former Sheriff Manning ends up with a new ”family", a trio of young adults who needed some direction about as much as he needed them. His new life is disturbed when he learns of someone looking for him. He has made plenty of enemies and this stranger and henchmen seem set to take him out.

Highly recommended, the tale only tells you what you need to know leaving a lot of things as a mystery. Reminds me a lot of Peter Dawson and Lewis B. Patten in that you are dropped into the story without a lot of background. You pick up pieces of it though never everything, but what you need to follow the tale. That's a rare quality anymore and made the story and characters even more interesting.

I’m a fan of Chuck Buda’s horror fiction. However, after reading the first book in this series, I must say that this is the best book he’s written to date. It is a straight western and done the way a western should be. Too many people out there are jumping on the western bandwagon having never read a western book. Chuck knows his stuff and it shows. This is not just about gunfights and gore, though the action scenes are intense and gripping. The story centers on the inner psychology and struggles of the characters, the love and hate between them, and the hard times fallen upon in the lawless west. Highly recommended and I cannot wait for the next one.

Revenge doesnt win

This story never explains really who killed his family nor why the town kicked him out. No explanation on this. It would have made things a lot clearer.
