An outcast witch. A rejected mate. Magic is vanishing, and supernaturals are disappearing at an alarming rate.
I didn’t want magic. I was supposed to escape.
Then life delivers an unwanted present for my twentieth birthday—a fated mate.
Now, the only way out of a world filled with magical jerks is to prove that I’m a null. A mage without magic.
Even though my magical bond with my mate suggests the opposite.
Rourke will stop at nothing to sever our magical bond. Maybe I’ll be the next supe to disappear.
This academy is torture. Rourke rules the school. I’m under constant attack.
And I’m surrounded by tempting, but confounding males: an alphahole dragon, a surly vampire, a mercurial druid, and my forbidden fruit, the wolf-shifter teacher. Not to mention the seductive incubus who flirts with me to provoke the dragon.
If I run, the administration will hunt me down. If I don’t learn to control my magic, I’ll be locked up or worse—killed.
And that’s if I’m lucky.

Yve Vale has a hit on her hands with Hexed the first book in the paranormal reverse harem series, Shadowcraft Academy. This book was excellent, with hot guys, magic, and mystery.
Shayla Willows is an abuse survivor. Her mother, who is a mage, has been abusing her both physically and mentally all her life, as well as everyone else (except for her best friend, Myra) in her community. However, Shayla has a plan to get out and she's very determined to do it. Even when her plan goes awry she refuses to give in but the hits just keep on coming. She's steadily being physically attacked at the school by all sorts but she's learning to count on people, and lean on them, which is something she never had.
The guys in this harem range from varying species and backgrounds but they are all a little bit broken like Shayla. There's a connection between her and all of them even if she denies it because of poor self-of-stem. Some of the guys are also in denial as well about what they feel, what she feels, all of it, it's a mess. There are five love interests two are good for her and one had potential but it's complicated. As for the other two, they are shady af, one being the mate that rejected her, there is something weird going on there and the other is his friend who most definitely has a dark side.
While I wish the general supernatural world was described more, I have to say Vale has done a fabulous job creating the Academy. The setting is great but it's the details that she's put into the magic classes. How she has described this world's magic is very descriptive and easy to understand. The magic of this world also has a little twist on it, most are mages but some have extra, two different magics, along with a whole wealth of information. Then there are the weird occurrences around the school and even more around Shayla herself.
Hexed was everything, it had some of my keywords, witches, mates, and magic school. There were also rejected mates, friends to lovers, and age gap themes. This is my first book by Vale and I can say she most definitely has my attention. Things ended with a mini cliff and the guys wondering what to do next. I'm very curious about what's coming next.
This is my first book by this author and it won't be my last. I've clearly been missing out cause damn this book was good!
Shayla our fmc doesn't want or expect much out of life. She firmly believes she's a null. When an encounter with her fated mate unlocks some of her magic she's forced to attend Shadowcraft Academy.
Rourke is an alphahole dragon who wants Shayla gone. He's forced to be one of her roommates. He's handsome and rich too bad his personality makes him a 0.
Branden a silent and mysterious vampire is Rourke's friend. He doesn't talk much but man when he does he makes clear his priorities are ensuring Rourke has a good future.
Landis a playful and charming incubus. He reaches out to befriend Shayla. While Shayla distrusts his intentions she gives him a shot.
Arden a gorgeous druid is a long lost friend of Shayla's. He is sweet, protective, caring, and he cooks! Seriously he's the total package. I love a good alphahole and he wasn't that but he was without a doubt my favorite.
Professor Quade is a wolf shifter. He's been tasked with tutoring Shayla in catching up with her peers since her magical education is lacking. His teaching methods leave a lot to be desired. He's developing a fascination with Shayla too bad he can't act on it.
Not all is well at Shadowcraft Academy. Magic is fading and students are missing. Shayla has a lot to learn and danger looms over her and the ones she cares about.
Seriously this book sucked me in and I spent every moment reading. I absolutely loved it! Shayla is hilarious. Arden and Landis are the best. Rourke and Branden have groveling to do. Professor Quade needs to just act on his feelings.
I need the next one ASAP! Take my money and give me more!!
Yve Vale created an amazing, intense world with Shadowcraft Academy. It’s full of mystery, magic, romance and steam.
Shayla is our heroine. She’s had a hellish life with an abusive mother. She’s also a null; she has no magic. All she wants in life is to escape her mom and the town she’s in and make a new life somewhere else.
After what was supposed to be a one time encounter with a normal “human” boy, Shayla finds herself having a whole new set of problems. Fated mates. Rejected mates. Magic. She’s being sent to Shadowcraft Academy where other magical beings are. And potentially… more mates?
I really enjoyed reading this book. I was sucked in from the first page and ended up binge reading the whole thing! I’m beyond ready for the next in the series! 🖤
Hexed was a fantastic read! It has it all – an academy setting. Fated mates. Rejected mates. Shifters. Knotting. Magic. Enemies to lovers. Friends to lovers. Forbidden teacher. Age gap. MM. Why choose…
Shayla is a null – born to a mage but showing no magical ability herself. Her only desire is to escape her circumstances once she turns 20 and become someone else, someone not tied to her null status and somewhere she cannot be traced by her mother. However, fate has other ideas, and she might have some magical ability, after all, trapping her in the magic world and taking away any chance of freedom.
Once I started reading, I was hard-pressed to put it down, and the last few chapters were so gripping that I couldn’t even think about falling asleep until I had finished them. Rejected mates is my favorite trope, so I was hooked right out of the gate. Then it kept getting better. I loved the different magical beings - shifters, vampires, incubi - and the idea that the school itself was sentient and adjusted housing to break up cliques and try to build covens.
After an initial steamy hook-up, the rest of the story was slower burn, as Shayla is not actively adding members to her harem, though she is attracted to multiple men. I may have unlocked a new kink involving lucid sex that is super hot.
I am very excited to continue this series and hope Yve locks herself in her writing cave to bust out the following books as quickly as possible.
I absolutely loved this book! I was captivated by it and I couldn’t put it down. Oh sweet Shayla, I feel for this girl. She has been through so much with an abusive mom. I was glad she finally got away, even though it wasn’t the way she wanted. I admire her determination, especially when she meets her fated mate.
Shayla finds out she has to go to a magic academy and their we come to know her guys. Her mate Rourke, the dragon shifter. He is so frustratinly a numskull, and his friend the vampire, Branden. Landis, this caring, flirtatious, incubus and Arden, the sweet, caring Druid. QuadA Hollis, the werewolf Professor who fights his attraction to her.
Shayla and the guys attend a magic academy, where they are trying to figure out the mystery of disappearances, and keep Shayla, because someone wants to hurt her. And magic is being drained rom the community.
This was such a great book and I can’t wait to see if Shayla learns the skills to defend herself and learns how to use her magic. And if the guys fight with her to figure out the mystery. I loved diving into this world and can’t wait to see what happens next!
She's the girl that only wanted one thing. It wasn't much, just freedom from the abuse she has suffered for years... and then he happened.
She gave him a truly memorable gift, and in return he more than rocked her world, he spun it so fast that it fell off its axis!
And this is where I fell in love! The words on the page spoke to me, and gently caressed both my heart and soul. Her fire, and his ice blended perfectly in a dance so beautiful and fragile. Their passion and determination bled from the pages making my heart soar with joy!
I realised in that moment, that Shayla is more than a character, more than a name on a page in a book. She could be me, or you, and that gave an extra depth to this book.
Rouke, Arden, Landis and Quade oh man! They come at you from all directions, including in your dreams! How are you meant to survive that in tact and on your feet!
I'm team Quade I must admit, there's just something about the forbidden that I crave, but I honestly wouldn't say no to any of them!
It's not often a book comes along that you can truly connect with, that as you walk away, when the last word is read, you instantly feel a gut wrenching, eye watering loss. This is me.
I miss Shayla and her guys. They are what my heart crave.
Hexed was so amazing and adorable and funny. After a hot and sexy meeting at a human party a intense hookup leads no magic Shayla to bond with Hot and rich and sexy Dragon Shifter Rourke. He wants to disolve this bond because he thinks she just wants him for him money at least thats what he says out load he actually has a good reason that he hides. This bonding leads Shayla to discover she has magic and has her heading to Shadowcraft Academy where she just happens to be rooming with Rourke her mate and also Branden Rourkes Best friend and secret Lover, and technically the real reason why he wants to lose the bond, and Vampire, Arden the Sweet and big Druid, who used to live near her and was her best friend who knew what was happening to her by her mother but moved away, loves to give her gifts, Landis the sexy Incubus who i just love his personality is just addicting, Then we have her Hot and Sexy Wolf Shifter Professor/magic advisor Hollis Quade whos helping her bring out her magic. This book is so sexy and i love seeing the relationships grow. I cant wait to read more.
This is the first book I have read from this author and just let me say, it sucked me in deep. I binge read it within a few hours.
The FMC, Shayla, wants to escape her life by proving that she is a null. However, life has other plans for her when her fated mate comes crashing into her life. Now she has no choice but to attend Shadowcraft Academy. Instead of her having to just deal with her alphahole fated mate…a long time friend- a druid, a mysterious vampire, and a flirtatious incubus are all living in the same dorm suite with her. How will she handle all the man candy around her, including her forbidden growly professor?
Mysterious things are happening to students. And no one can figure out what Shayla truly is, only that she holds powerful magic. There are those who are out to get her for it. What is she if she is not truly a null and what do these people want with her? Can’t wait to find out more in book 2! 🔥
Notes 📝 -pretty stereotypical ya feeling academy story All the other girls are jealous and attack her to the point of near death to star away from “their” men -one of her true mates, Ruorke, rejects her as his mate while he is inside her locked in and suddenly becomes a Dr. Jekyll/Mr.Hyde sitch, he was sweet and kind and then becomes completely awful, classist, hypocritical and rude saying she is after his money etc even though evidence points to otherwise -he actually does because of his loyalty to his primary relationship on the down low with his best friend Brendan and his family because she is too “trashy” to be his mate -Brendan pushes her away other than stalking her for his partners benefit up until it seems like she might have a good amount of power, then he decides that she might serve a good purpose as a kind of beard for them to be in a coven together and hide their relationship and be a live in surrogate to have his children. Despite being the true mate of Ruorke, he decides if she won’t agree to that arrangement he will just kill her, because he has him first. He tells someone else that since she isn’t polished enough they can just get R another female mate for society purposes. This is someone she is eventually supposed to end up w/ as well. -the MM foreshadowing is so awkwardly/forcefully done, almost every time there is danger or the h is dying and they are trying to rescue her there are thoughts from one guy about another guys hot physique or how he’d like to experience his dominating personality in bed etc ad nauseam.

I loved this book! The guys were all so different and great I had a hard time picking who my favorite was... So I made a list - Branden, Arden, Landis, Quade, and Rourke. Yeah, all of them. Each for different reasons. Branden, he hides so much of his emotion, but you know it is a storm of them inside. I can't wait to see them break free. Arden, I mean, come on, he is the sweetest from the start. I just love his care. Landis, who doesn't love a flirt with depth? Landis was my favorite for most of the book, you can just tell that he is afraid to trust himself, but he wants so much to be able to. I can't wait for him to let go and let himself touch her. Quade, Professor with a chip on his shoulder. Yep, sign me up, I'm curious about his past with Rourke's family. I'm sure it is painful. Rourke, I LOVED this guy when she met him at the party. And I felt the panic when they bonded. I want to see inside his head. Shayla has her hands full. I'm looking forward to the next book and diving deeper into each of the characters.
Hexed is the first book in the Shadowcraft Academy series. The main character, Shayla, is believed to be a “null” witch (a witch without powers) until she discovers her fated mate. Shayla faces many different trials while discovering allies and potential mates throughout this book. The author spun a great new world built around paranormal beings and a world where magic is disappearing. By the end I was immersed in this new academy series and left with a painful cliffhanger! It was a great start to the series and I look forward to the next!
This is the first book in the Shadowcraft Academy series. It does end on a cliffhanger which means I CAN'T WAIT for the second book! This book hits all different categories that I am in love with.... fated mates, rejected mates, enemies to lovers, shifters and my favorite academy/ college setting!
It started off right away with a spicy scene but then after that I would call it slow-burn from there. Dark Paranormal Academy RH
THIS BOOK! Yve Vale weaves a story of Heartache and sadness in Shay that just calls out to you to love her. I read it in 3 hours and kept trying to turn the page after it was over. I can't stop thinking about Shay. She is so broken and although she gains some things she loses just as many. I laughed and cried in equal measure with this story and the guys she meets. It's going to be a long wait to book two but totally it's going to be totally worth it!
It's September and during this time of year I crave a good in paranormal read. I'm so glad I chose this one. Great characters and a fantastic fae world!! Shayla has her hands full with all her hot paranormal fellas!!
Shayla is the FMC and she is just trying to get to her 20th birthday when she can leave her crappy life so far and her horrible mother. Shayla thinks she is a null non magical person and wants nothing to do with that life. Before her bestie who is magical leaves for school she takes her to a norms party where she meets a drop dead gorgeous guy and throws caution to the wind and sleeps with him unbeknownst to the both of them they turn out to be fated mate which both reject. The one thing that Shayla does want is to go to magic school but now is forced. Once there there are twists and turns as the magic world is slowly losing magic and students are missing. Shayla meets up with her childhood bestie and finds out she is sharing a dorm with him, an incubus, her fated mate and his "best friend" Someone is trying to keep stealing magic and as Shayla who still doesn't know what magic she has, has become a target to steal her magic, but with the help of her shifter professor who is a wolf and wants her, they try to figure out what is going on with the missing magic, students and Shayla herself. Lots of laughs and steam and that cliffhanger I can't wait for the next book!
Goodness! This is my first book by Yve Vale and color me very impressed. I loved this story. It is one that pulled me in and didn’t let go. It was so intriguing and full of drama and suspense. I love Landis and Arden. They are so protective and caring. Rourke is one of the major guys that you just want to smack. Quade is one of the sexy ones that you just absolutely want to cuddle with. Branden is kind of closed off but I hope we learn more about him. It has a pretty big mystery and I can’t wait to see what is going to happen with this. The story is extremely well written and developed. I love how intriguing it is and can’t wait to see what happens next. A definite must read.
Need to read the whole series to have a proper opinion but for now the world building is quite weak and the heroine is really whiny. She has no self-esteem and screams it approximately a million times through this first book. Every time the tiniest thing happens she's like "I'm trash, it's my fault, I should be send to the asylum and left there" I swear to god girl grow some balls.
Great storytelling. I love the character development, and how the story is building up without giving too much away. I can't wait for the next installment of the series. There is souch to look forward to learning about these character, their relationships and the story arc.
I absolutely loved this story! It was a page turner and started off with a quick hook up that turned into a Fated Mate situation with a knotting. Then after that it was slow burn. But the story continued to build. Shayla lived in a mage house and only dreamed of turning twenty and leaving home getting as far away as possible. She grew up showing no signs of having any magical powers herself or as she referred to herself a null. So when she went to a party hooked up with a good looking ypung man at a 'norm' party, to finally shed her virginity, she was attracted to him and he her. Suddenly she felt a burning near her heart and they had a fated mate bond. Neither knew the other was a mage. He rejected the bond and it proved that she had magic in her blood foiling her plan to run from the magical relm. Now her mate's family is sending her to the academy and she must learn what her magical power is. However Rourke, her mate wants nothing to do with her, but wants no one else to be near her either. She's finding that she is drawn to an old friend Arden, a druid and healer, Landis an incubus, Branden a vampire and her professor Dr. Hollis a Werewolf shifter. Shayla is also caught up in some really bad things happening on campus with students going missing, one being her best friend. People having it out for her because of her fated mate bond and because of the company she keeps. This book has it all with the why choose RH factors happening. I can't wait for the next book to see what happens next for Shayla and her men.
This book has captured my heart. Shayla believes she's a null (supe without magic) and only has to wait for her 20th birthday before she can run away from her abusive mother and revolving boyfriends. Her friend Myra convinces her to come to one last party before she leaves for the academy. When she gets there she meets a boy who she believes to be human. They flirt a bit and both feel drawn to each other and one thing leads to another and suddenly they're mated 🤔 they don't even know each others names! Rourke freaks out and thinks shayla trapped him into the bond even though she doesn't have any magic. The next day magical services comes by and informs her that she will be going to the academy to train her magic. Her life just got turned upside down and it doesn't get easier at the academy. Her first day she's attacked, but she connects with an old friend and finds herself rooming with four other males. This book has delicious steam, tension, MM, fated and rejected mates, and the beginnings of a possible mated coven. Tw: mentions of abuse and abusive parents, violence, and seggs
Shayla is determined to make it to her 20th birthday as a null, without any trace of magic, so she can finally leave her past behind and live a free life. Unfortunately an unexpected encounter with her fated mate destroys all her carefully executed plans. Now she’s forced to attend Shadowcraft Academy with the mate that rejected her, and four other men who make her hormones go haywire…
This book absolutely blew my mind. It’s a dark academy RH, but with mostly protective men who all form a unique connection to their fmc. I’m not always a fan of a protective harem, but there is so much intrigue involved and secrets simmering between all these characters the dynamic is perfectly balanced out for me. I love how Shayla is tough and strong, but also nice and a little fragile. There is so much going on in this book, and so many questions remain, I’m dying to start the next book!
What an introduction to the Shadowcraft Academy series! It has a fantastic intensity with magic, steam, romance and so much more. This is a reverse harem academy romance that has so many elements I really enjoyed. This is such an intriguing read with so many fantastic characters and mystery. I am very interested Shayla's story progresses.
This one was amazing. I need to read the next book asap. It was so much fun and sexy as hell. I can't wait to see what this series has in store for me.
This is a very cliché academy RH. If you’ve read any other academy romances then this won’t be anything new. It’s still a fairly interesting story, though I’m undecided if I’ll continue this series or not.
Shayla, our FMC, believes herself to be a “Null” in the supernatural community. She’s counting on being a null so she can escape her abusive mother… until the day she loses her virginity to a guy who turns out to be her fated mate. He rejects her immediately and turns into a huge jerk. Shayla is then sent to a supernatural university since she has suspected magic now. People are mysteriously disappearing and magic is fading…yada, yada, same-old, same-old.
It seems like the story is steering us to a future where Rourke, the mate who rejected her, will become part of her harem. This is the main reason I’m considering abandoning this series. If he changes his mind it’ll only be because she’s powerful now and that’s shitty. This guy doesn’t deserve a second chance. Also, Brandon and Rourke have a MM relationship…and Brandon is planning to get Shayla and Rourke together so they can use her power…and then Rourke can get another, more appropriate female, to mate with for public perception. Nice.
I like Arden, the overprotective Druid. I like Landis, the incubus. I really like Quade, aka Mr. Hollis, the Alpha wolf shifter and professor. I’m not sure the author could do anything to make me like Brandon or Rourke… and I don’t want to watch FMC have ‘body betrayal syndrome’ with them either.
Medium/slow burn MM relationships + sex FMC abused by mother Bullying from outside the harem Rejected mates Multiple, first person POV Medium/low steam Fated mates
Wow- this story was incredible! And I’d definitely need more!
Enthralling world building, deliciously attractive heroes, and one strong but vulnerable FMC make up the wonder that is Hexed. With a complex plot line to keep you on your toes, every page adds a new thrill to Shayla and her men’s story! I was hooked from the very beginning!
I adore Arden and Landis so very much, they are exactly what Shayla deserves after the hell she has survived prior to coming to the Academy. Quade is super hot and very alpha, if not a bit hot-and-cold with his emotions. Branden is a bit of a wildcard still. I’m unsure of how I feel about him yet. Rourke can fly a kite cause he has a LONG way to go before he deserves even a millimeter of Shayla’s affection.
I have a lot of questions, but the writing is so well done that I feel as if the pathway to answers is already being laid. It’s such a good story. Truly phenomenal already.
Hexed is the first book that I have read by Yve Vale and it definitely won't be the last! I really enjoyed this book, it had me hooked from the very beginning and I devoured it in an afternoon. Not only is the plot exciting and well developed but the characters are enjoyable and engaging ( yes even Rourke.) I have been looking for an academy romance and this one was just so good, I loved the fated mates and rejected mate tropes and this one had both!! I think Shayla has a fascinating group of guys, I mean who wouldn't want a Druid, Incubus, Wolf Shifter, Vampire, and Dragon shifter?? I can't wait for the next book!!!
