Princess Arcana has always been feared by her own coven. An outcast, she's lived her life for her sister and her two male, half-human lovers. But when war comes, and those lives are threatened, Arcana leaves the safety of the castle walls for the first time in 29 years. It should have been a simple mission, but she was betrayed. Only a rogue coven of Sea-witches, her natural enemies, are there to save her. They explain the truth of the war, and why they need her desperately. But can Arcana accept the friendships of those she was taught to hate, who ask her personal questions that she isn't ready to answer? Those who aren't afraid of her, of getting close to her? Or will her quest for revenge be her only bedmate for eternity?
4.5 ish stars rounded up. Don’t let this cover fool you! This was really good. Bamf FMC. Pretty sure I went through an emotional roller coaster, there was just a lot here and that ending… cliff hanger warning gonna leave you with goose bumps for sure! It’s always hard to rate a book with a euphoric ending, goosebumps, adrenaline, gasp, pearl grabbing… yep all those lol. Was a treat to read!
The world building of this story is perfection. The character building is amazing. The FMC is strong and powerful, full of flaws and self-doubt, but so absolutely stunning. My love for Arcana is on par with Aelin, my fire breathing bitch queen! They are both so strong, so beautiful, yet so flawed. Those flaws and those self doubts do not stop them. This book was absolute perfection and I hope the author writes another one.
“If blaming me takes away that self-incriminating hatred, Princess. If it helps you walk into that castle and go on. If it gets that arm of yours repaired and your clothes changed into something warm,” he nodded to me, slowly, “then blame me for as long as you need to.”
Rune was everything I wanted in this book. Though the things that happened in the end, it just devastated me in so many ways. The tears I shed over Rune. And what Arcana lost, just ugh 😭😭😭 no amount of words will truly describe that devastation.
“I don’t know what I am,” I said softly, wishing Gideon had just run me through with his trident. “I am lost, and I am alone.”
“I want to be cherished. For who I am, not what I can destroy.”
Oh, my heart breaks for Arcana. She is so strong yet so alone after what happened to her parents and her adoptive parents. She lost the most out of anyone. She is so self sacrificing that she doesn't believe she's important. And the firethorn Witches, all they did was reiterate what she was already feeling. Yet, even though they hated her and feared her, Arcana still fought for them and would do anything for her Coven. She has unconditional love and those that betray her or hurt her or those she loves should fear her.
“You girls are going to cause trouble together, I realize.”
I laughed so hard at the Queen of the Kingdom of Lillies description of the friendship that blossomed between Arcana and Yen. I love that Arcana finally found people that didn't hate her and accepted her, even if her true self was still hidden. It gives me hope for when she reveals who she really is.
“I may only use my power, when I am ready to remember what I am.”
Wow! That's all I got to say when Arcana finally steps into her own. She is hellfire. She is destruction. She is their reckoning. And she is so much more
"I will cross oceans for you! I will kill and die for you and haunt those who try to harm you! You are my daughter, blood be damned!"
Tears absolute tears at all the memories Arcana got back when she was able to finally see the truth. So many betrayals. So much love from her adopted Dad. Ugh! The ending isn't fair. I hope and pray for another book! I need answers. I need it all!!
Great world building the FMC is strong and selfless sheltered from the truth until she had to choose to embrace the past. Love every cecond. Can't wait for the next book
