Pairing up at Pear Tree Farm in time for Christmas … Pear Tree Farm in Cornwall, owned by the kind-hearted Nessa Vivian, is known for taking in lost souls, and ex-soldier Crispin Davies is certainly one of those. But the once sleepy caravan park is now a thriving business, and far from the peace and quiet Crispin was craving, he soon finds himself roped into helping out with a short-notice Christmas festival, organised by Nessa’s force-of-nature sister, Lowena. But despite Crispin’s initial reluctance, his involvement in the festival serves to throw him together with Ashley Spencer, an American woman and fellow lost soul, who works at the nearby Tregereth House. Could Lowena’s ambitious scheme result in a more hopeful Christmas and New Year for them both – with a few surprises along the way? Sequel to A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm.
I was born in the beautiful county of Cornwall in southwestern England and grew up in a small village there. I return frequently to visit family and friends but especially to savor the cool rainy weather and hot tea. After school I joined the Royal Navy and served for nearly six years. I held varying jobs from being the only woman in the staff of a sports center to arranging social engagements for the Captain of the base. My last assignment was to Denmark where I thought I would spend a wild two years in Copenhagen only to discover I was being sent to a NATO Headquarters in a quiet town on the Jutland Peninsula. I was only disappointed for a while as I met my own tall, dark, handsome stranger there - a US Naval Officer named Richard who became my husband.
That was the beginning of an itinerant life as from Denmark we went to Sicily where we had our first son. Then it was on to Monterey, California and the birth of our second son. From there we headed to Patuxent River, Maryland where we had our third son. Richard's last assignment was to London where we spent a wonderful three years. Retiring from the Navy he took a job in Brentwood, Tennessee near where he grew up. Now he's retired for the 2nd time and I'm still writing!
I have always been a voracious reader, even at 5 years old my school reports show a keen interest in English and very little in math - some things never change! Although I enjoyed writing in school it wasn't until 2001 that I was tempted to take a creative writing class at a local recreation center which has sparked my new career.
I hope you enjoy reading my work as much as I enjoy writing it so sit back, make yourself a cup of tea and enjoy a break from everyday life.
Crispin Davies was an ex-soldier who’d found a home on Pear Tree Farm in Cornwall, and his close friendship with owners, Nessa and Ward Vivian, warmed his heart. Ward’s sister Ashley Spencer worked at the nearby Tregereth House with Lowena, Nessa’s sister. With the Christmas season fast approaching, the unexpected idea of a festival was daunting, but exciting. They all worked hard to bring it together and the joy and delight for the tourists and visitors was good to see.
Ward and Ashley were Americans and although Ward had been in Cornwall for longer, Ashley was gradually coming out of her shell and making friends after the trauma which had affected her. Would this Christmas be the one to lead to a brighter future, a happier future? The many family and friends, both new and old, who were arriving at the Farm, saw the locals filled with delight.
A Cornish Christmas at Pear Tree Farm is the 2nd in the Pear Tree Farm series by Angela Britnell and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Light, entertaining, cheerfully festive and heartwarmingly fun, I have no hesitation in recommending this novel highly.
With thanks to ChocLit Publishing for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
This is one of those books that gives you all the warm and fuzzy feels!! This is the second book in the Pear Tree Farm series, which can easily be read as a standalone, but it was just wonderful to revisit old favourite characters and get to know a couple of others a little more!
The story centres around Crispin and Ashley. She is the sister in law of Nessa who owns the farm, and is over from America and a master of getting people involved and helping out at times of need! And with business booming on the farm, she needs all the help she can get! And that is where Crispin gets involved! He's an ex soldier and dealing with trying to find his way in the 'outside' world again. The sparks between him and Ashley are instant and it's lovely to watch them be so honest with each other from the outset! And even shocking news from his past is dealt with in a grown up way - there's no playing silly games and trying to keep things from one another! I loved that about their relationship!
The story was terrific! Full of that community spirit, the importance of friends and families supporting one another and it was just a book that leaves you smiling!
The novel is set in Cornwall, where Nessa owns Pear Tree Farm. Her sister-in-law, American Ashley, begins a romance with Welsh former soldier Crispin, and all seems to be going well between them, until Crispin receives a letter that leaves him trying to figure out what step to take next. As everyone at Pear Tree Farm gets involved in the ‘Christmas, Cornish Style’ weekends they are organizing, has Ashley and Crispin’s relationship finished forever? This is the second book in the Pear Tree Farm series, but I haven’t read the first one and easily understood what was going on in this book, as the author explains any relevant backstory. It is an easy, light read, I finished it in a day. The characters come to life beautifully and I really enjoyed the community feel. There is quite a small cast of characters, so it’s easy to get to know everyone and they are a highlight of the story, as you care about them and want things to turn out well for all of them. I enjoyed Angela Britnell’s book and hope there are more books to come in the Pear Tree Farm series.

And maybe a certain American, too . . . 💖 Review - This was such a cute and cosy festive read. It's the perfect book to curl up with at this time of year. I enjoyed the book so much that I couldn't stop reading and I read it in one sitting. The place settings in the story sounded so cute and lovely and there was a great cast of characters. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author. 🎄 Thank you to Choclit and the author, Angela Britnell for my free download of the book.
I don't like to leave harsh reviews on smaller authors, so I'm going to be kind. This Christmas book is barely about Christmas. It doesn't start with Christmas and doesn't end on Christmas, and I don't feel like Christmas was what brought them all together to make the plot work out.
I don't feel like the characters are more than surface level. Ashley and Crispin meet and are attracted to each other. They spend time together and make love off page a lot. Is there chemistry on page? Not to me. They just continuously say they are going to go do that.
Crispin finds out he has a son that he never knew and the mother wants Crispin for herself but never in a devious way. She says what she wants, Crispin says he is with Ashley, and that is that.
I mean its a happy ending read. If you like light reads this might be perfect for you.
This book is full of Christmas spirit and festive activities. It would be hard to not be in the mood for the holidays while reading this book! It is about family and, despite all the complications and challenges, the importance of love and relationships. All the holiday events that Ashley and Lowenia invent to bring business to their B&B and farm made me feel tired by the end. A lot of work. The small town setting and local customs added to the charm of this story too. The romance between Crispan and Ashley was very sweet and sexy and proved that love can conquer all.
I am sorry but I just can’t read it. I’ve given it a chance and read 10% and I am struggling to continue. I don’t like giving 1 stars but I couldn’t give more. Everything feels so forceful - even the names. If I didn’t live in England and visited Cornwall several times, I would’ve potentially liked it.
I enjoyed this book, and the characters were really intermingled and interesting. There were some contradicting facts throughout the book, which made me have to go back and reread something. Also, I wasn’t always sure who was speaking. The book would change scenes after a paragraph without any kind of stop. All in all a good story.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It has a great storyline, setting and characters. It is very well written by the writer and I’m looking forward to reading some of her other books.
Obvious must-read for those like me who enjoyed A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm, this new installment focuses on Ashley and Crispin, that we both met in book 1, while letting us catch up with Nessa and Ward (and a few other familiar characters). It could be read first if you missed the previous one and are not in the mood for a summer-themed story in winter, but chronological order would probably be better as this one contains references to the other's events (not that I think they would be confusing to new readers, but some might considered them a little spoilery). I really enjoyed being back to Pear Tree Farm for this "Christmas, Cornish style", finding out more about Crispin's past, seeing him and Ashley find the happiness they deserved, and also witnessing part of Nessa and Ward's life as new parents.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
So lovely to return to Pear Tree Farm in Cornwall, and catch up with some familiar faces.
This return is a little over a year later, and can be read as a standalone book, as there is plenty of background information to bring you up to date, but do read the previous book first if you can, because it's just as good as this one.
This book centres around Ashley and Crispin.
Ex soldier Crispin Davies has returned to the once sleepy caravan park, to find it is now a thriving business, and he soon finds himself roped into helping out with a Christmas festival.
Ashley Spencer lives and works at nearby Tregereth House, like Crispin she is a bit of a lost soul, having come over from America, and joining her brother Ward and his wife Nessa, the owners of Pear Tree Farm, after the breakdown of her disastrous marriage.
With the festive season fast approaching, a more hopeful future could be on the horizon for them both, but not without a few surprises along the way.
A truly lovely book, I can't wait to read more from this author.
I'm an unashamed fan of Angela Britnell's books and was delighted to find that she's written more about life at Pear Tree Farm in Cornwall.
Now a year later, Ness and Ward are married with a brand new baby, a few of the minor characters from book 1 are more prominent in this story.
It's just before Christmas, Nessa and her sister Lowena are frantically managing a last minute decision to hold Christmas themed weekend festivals. Out of necessity, all the caravan park residents are roped in to help run the weekends.
Ex-soldier Crispin Davies, who was taken in and given sanctuary by Nessa, has returned to Cornwall, he's rebuilding his life and regaining confidence.
Matchmaking Lowena has set Crispin and Ward's sister, Ashley Spence, to work together for the festival. Naturally, not everything runs smoothly, especially when surprising news arrives for Crispin.
A good read for holidays or even non-holidays, just curl up on the sofa and relax.
If you have not visited Pear Tree Farm before you will still enjoy this story about the characters that were introduced in the first book. If you have I'm sure you will be as pleased as I was to find Crispin's story. Angela Britnell's characters always have an added dimension, perhaps it is the mix of cultures, that make her stories memorable for me. Whether you enjoy most the ones set in the USA or those in set Cornwall they are always based around the issues of modern life, leave you with things to think about and stand up to re-reading. Great people, great places and A Cornish Christmas at pear Tree Farm is my Christmas treat!
I really enjoyed this book, especially as it continued on from A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm. So often you buy book 2 in a series and it is all new characters but we join Nessa and Ward, now married with a baby. Ashley, Ward's sister has settled in well, and is much attracted to Crispin, but they are taking their time, both have demons from their past lives to sort out first, but then Crispin gets some news which he never expected in a million years and has to readjust his life, will there still be room for Ashley as well? A lovely book and I hope there are more to come.
2.5 but rounded up for Goodreads! Enjoyed this cute, small town romance but found the characters a little annoying, their reactions to things was so dramatic! Also the romance between 2 of the characters seemed a little forced, they seemed to barely know each other before they were declaring their love. I believe this is the 2nd in a series and it read fine as a standalone although you might feel more connected to the characters if you read the first one. Overall it was a cute, quick, restive romance.
A Christmas romance that works throughout the year. Ashley and Crispins's story tugs at your heartstrings whenever you manage to read it. A real feel good story but with additional characters who add an edge so it is not a sickly sweet tale. I loved the people I was reading about and felt as if I knew them all, and am wishing them and you all a happy Christmas.

A worthy sequel to A Cornish Summer at Pear Tree Farm – I was very interested to find out what happened to those two really emotionally damaged characters and I wasn’t disappointed, this was a most enjoyable story for me. It started well, and continued in the same vein. I have no hesitation in giving 5 stars, and recommending to anyone.
It's lovely to be back at Peartree Farm and catch up with the characters from the previous book. This time it's the turn of Crispin and Ashley to take the limelight but will their fledgling romance withstand the shock of an ex turning up? Lovely characters and a warmhearted Christmassy feel make this the perfect book to curl up in front of the fire with
This is the second book of this series. It has most of the characters from the first book, with extras. The storyline concerns Ashley & Crispin's burgeoning relationship, but includes all the other characters too. It's well worth reading. A really lovely story. The preview of the book says it all, without giving away too much.
Angela’s done it again. A Cornish Christmas at Pear Tree Farm - a romance novel at its best. Characters you can’t help but fall in love with, an American hero a Cornish girl. What more can I say? An excellent entertaining read. I couldn’t put it down and loved it.
This book after a couple of paragraphs had me getting to bed a bit earlier. The story line was so good if only people were so ready to help others as in this book.a really good read.
