Miss Toppen writes a mellow NA romance. Her writing is something I need to get used to it. I like my romance to be dramatic in plot and hot sizzling chemistry. Tequila Haze is like reading a romance book while drunk. Maybe because it is not really work for my taste, I have to admit it has a good promising plot.
The problem is the chemistry and how the relationship progressed between the main characters. It is too fast. Suddenly there is the I love you words without any real connection. I do like their story together if Miss Toppen intended to be just friend relationship.
Even there is a cliffhanger at the end, I can not help feeling this book is just... OK read for me. Maybe I need the second book to understand the whole picture.

It was definitely lust at first sight for Lennon and Hudson and when it tries to be more, something happens to stop it. Then there's a FIVE year break.
Hudson's a budding country singer and doing well. Lennon's working in design. They live in different states but with Hudson touring, they're able to make it work.
Unfortunately, Lennon has an ex that won't stay gone and all hell breaks loose. The cliffhanger was a doozy. (Of course, I LOVED it!)

Hudson & Lennon. Book 1 of 2. Mostly from Lennon's POV. Ends with a cliffhanger. It could be considered a second chance romance, but that’s kind of a stretch to me.
Hudson: A country musician whose star is on the rise. He is on tour and travels a lot. He’s keeping a secret and his family knows about it but the reader and Lennon are clueless. I had my suspicions, but honestly the author took it in a different direction than I was expecting. I liked Hudson up until the last page. He’ll have to do a lot of groveling in Book 2 and have some good explanations as to why he didn’t tell Lennon the truth.
Lennon: An interior designer. When Lennon first meets Hudson she’s a bit sassy, but really she is pretty quiet and laid back. She’s getting over a cheating boyfriend when they first meet, so she has some insecurities.
Hudson and Lennon meet, have a great connection, a one night stand and that’s it for them. Fast forward 5 years and they see each other again and don’t want to fight the connection this time. Their first meeting took up about 15% of the first part of the book, so you do get to know them a little during their first encounter. My initial reaction was that they had good chemistry. Their flirting was cute. Their reconnection 5 years later comes from a place where Hudson feels like he knows what he wants now. He’s vulnerable, but willing to admit he will fight for this relationship because she is who he wants.

I push out past the knot that has suddenly formed
in my throat. “Someone I should have fought for
five years ago.”
Lennon is a little more skeptical that their relationship can survive all the complexities that come with a long distance relationship with a hot, sexy, panty-melting country star. She has the feelings, but is scared. These two have great chemistry together and even though things move quickly in their relationship, it didn’t feel like insta love to me as their feelings from that one night stand simmered for 5 long years.
Summary: Overall I really enjoyed this book. The H/h were likeable characters who had great chemistry and lots of steamy sex. It's a light and upbeat read without a lot of drama and the pace is good. The secondary characters add dimension to the story.
No cheating. No triggers. No Kleenex required.

First of all, I would like to thank the author for giving us the second book and didn't make us wait for it. The cliffhanger at the end of this book is a big one and I certainly needed to find out what was going to happen next. Hudson's point of view is a rare thing and it's written in past tense which was weird. It doesn't reveal his secret and the whole time I was trying to guess it. I wasn't expecting that ending though and I wanted to find out what was going on. The rest of the book was good. We have a few chapters in the beginning where we see how Hudson and Lennon met 5 years ago and then the story kicks off.
To be honest, I feel like if I hadn't read the second book before writing this review I would have said many more good things about this book. For the first in a duet the book is good and I wanted to see where the characters were going. I liked the main and the secondary characters and I was happily reading the book even with the little hesitation I had in the beginning due to the chapters that were in the past. Hudson was a bad guy then, but he got points for admitting it and not trying to hide it. Len lost me as her supporter in the second book and I hope you won't also be disappointed. I would recommend the book and I hope you will enjoy this duet more than I did overall.

Move over Rock stars!! Hudson James, country music star is running things now! It's been a long time since I've read a book based on a country music star. This book had me feeling that I was apart of the story. Melissa Toppin always makes me fall in love with her characters. Lennon and Hudson were no different. I usually don't like books where there is an immediate attraction but it totally worked for me with this story because other things were spaced out. Everything didn't happen at once. I love the secondary characters just as much as I love Hudson and Lennon. Lennon has a best friend and sister that are crazy, fun and remind me of my friends. This story made me want to drink, listen to country music, and fall in love all over again. There is just enough angst to make me think there would be more to come and by the cliff hanger I'm going to say there's way more of that in the next book, Tequila Burn.

"Who falls in love with someone they just met? Then again, deep in my chest, whether I want to admit it or not, Hudson really did take a piece of me with him after that night. A piece, no matter how hard I've tried, I couldn't seem to get back."

It not only needs to be a movie, but I literally want to start all over to keep this train of feels going...Do not miss this one guys, it's Top Read 2018 Duet, seriously....Hudson melted my kindle and I loved every second!!! Enough angsty happenings to keep you white knuckling your kindle, but overwhelming sweetness and romance to keep your heart thumping for days after reading...it had me transfixed the entire time!! I was so happy that I had the 2nd book to dive into the way that this one ended, because it was a jaw dropper! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

Ever since her last novel Melissa Toppen has become one of my must read authors as her novels keeps getting better and better. Tequila Haze is no exception. This is the first book in the Tequila Duet and I loved it. The road to true love is not always straight, there are some curves and bumps along the way and Melissa clearly showed that in this story.
We meet Hudson & Lennon in the first chapter and the chemistry between them is intense. These two characters were both down to earth and charming. Melissa portrayed them in a way that made them both likable and so relatable. Additionally the secondary characters were all perfect additions to the story.
This page turner was a well-paced, easy read with some angst in between. Expect to be sucked into the lives of these two and be hooked until the end and left wanting more. It is a duet so there is one hell of a cliff-hanger at the end which I did not expect....OMG.
Tequila Haze was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it. I can't wait to start the next book in this series.

Wow! This story just pulls you right in.😊 I couldn't put the book down. I fell in love with Hudson & Lennon's story very early on.❤️ Melissa writes such likeable characters. Hudson & Lennon have amazing chemistry!🔥 They also have a way with each other, that it jumps off the page.❤️ It feels so real.😊💜 Melissa does such an amazing job capturing the emotions, the heat, and the love that Hudson and Lennon express to each other, others, and to themselves. This is the first book of a duet about these two. I loved learning the history of each character.💜 Learning more about Lennon. I also loved the few glimpses we got from Hudson's perspective/POV. It really gives some insight as to what he's feeling and thinking. I wasn't sure how "Tequila Haze" was going to end. Let's just say that I'm so glad that the wait isn't too long. For us to be able to read the next book: "Tequila Burn". I've usually waited till I have all the books in a duet or series before I read it. That way I don't have to wait too long to find out what happens. I have high hopes for the conclusion of Hudson & Lennon's love story....

Tequila Haze is book 1 in the Tequila Duet. Melissa Toppen is a new-to-me author and I really enjoyed her writing. There is a cliffhanger here... and its a doozie! So be aware....
Our hero is Hudson who is a rising country music star. I liked Hudson. Handsome, charming, kind, and humble. Lennon is our feisty heroine ( loved her name and yes she is named after a Beatle. Her sister is named Starr which was great too). Lennon is funny and warmhearted. Having been burned by a cheating ex, she is not looking for love.
Lennon and Hudson meet and share a very hot night together. They both feel a physical and emotional pull toward the other. But more than a night is not in the cards for them. Fast forward five years... a set of circumstances causes them to meet again. The connection is still there and still strong as ever. By this time Hudson's music career is barrelling skyward.
Lennon and Hudson are cute together. I enjoyed their banter and seeing them fall in love with each other. Getting to know each other as they tried to build on their physical and emotional attraction to each other.
Around halfway through the book we find out that Hudson has a secret and boy oh boy did I want to know what it was! This is also where we begin to get Hudson's POV which was a nice surprise. I read this book in one day. I reeeeeallllly wanted to know what Hudson was hiding! Do we find out? You will have to read and see. Some drama with Lennon's ex also plagues our couple in this first installment. Eagerly awaiting Book 2, Tequila Burn. This installment releases two weeks after this one so not long at all.

I was devastated for Lennon when she found her dream guy otherwise "detained". I believed in the magic of their connection so when she stumbles on the one who got away again...
I fell even harder.
And that is why I'm angry with Ms. Toppen. I'm angry because I just got slapped with a reality check. A reality check so hard it definitely put me into orbit! What a way to end book one of the duet!
I have no doubt in my mind readers are going to riot until they can get Tequila Burn in their hot little hands!!!!

So this is part one of a duet, it does end on a cliffhanger, but trust me you do not want to wait to read this! I love all of Melissa’s books, but this one may be my new fave. There was such a connection between the two main characters Lennon and Hudson. With part two coming out in just 2 short weeks, I wouldn’t wait, I would jump on this now. You won’t regret it!

What a wonderful duet. Tequila Haze is a beautifully written story of second chances years later. Melissa did a wonderful job of making me forget that I was reading a second chance story.
Lennon and Hudson are two characters that I really enjoyed reading and I can't wait to read book two!

Oh my heart!! This book! It’s so good! It’s an all consuming story that will have you flipping the pages quickly! Melissa has written a story that you will devour!
Tequila Haze is a story of finding true love but having to endure some twists and turns to get it.
Lennon Claire is out celebrating her BF Emma’s birthday. They are having a great time and then Lennon meets Hudson Demasi. And he shakes her entire world! These two on night of fun and a whole lot of sexiness. Feelings are felt and they scare the crap right out of her.
Five years after meeting Hudson, Lennon attends a concert and low and behold she meets Hudson again. This time Hudson isn’t letting her go. The only thing now is Hudson isn’t just Hudson Demasi he is now The Hudson James the newest up and coming country star.
We follow as these to reconnect. We also know there’s a secret that could end this beautiful relationship. Will they be said before it’s too late or will things just be a Tequila Haze!

Melissa Toppen, how can you leave me hanging like this? This book had everything I love in it with a strong story line, feels, great heat and so many things that left me with so much love in my heart and all encompassing. The characters were so well written and so easily to relate to and grab you and make you become part of their story. But do watch out because when the rug gets pulled out it is a killer!! I need book 2.....

You feel the special connection pulling them together even if they barely know each other. They spent a memorable night together before losing contact for years.

I don’t know what is worse the cliffhanger of a Duet or the Haze of a Tequila hangover, uhh. I went in knowing that with a Duet meant we had to wait until book two to see where our heart is going to Burn with the Demise (ha, fitting for Hudson since his last name is Demasi) of Hudson and Lennon’s story, but dang it that ending has your heart burning and it’s not from Tequila this time. NO, NO, wtf that was not a blast from the past that we wanted to resurface. That’s one tsunami of a wave on that beachfront!
Lennon and her BF, Emma are out for Emma’s BD and meet Hudson and Colton. There was an instant connection between Lennon and Hudson, but how could your one be the one that you meet on the day you leave your annual vacation spot and you are and up and coming country singer? Well say it was the Tequila making them think the haze of their night was more than it was. It’s Nashville or bust that had them on a Rollercoaster as Luke Bryan’s songs seems fitting for this portion of the story. Enter a couple years later and Lennon never in a million years puts the puzzle together and expects to be Waldo is a crowd of millions, I’ll say.
Hudson makes music and his words are written through his songs, but you’ll be asking if his feelings were so intense that first day why didn’t he try harder to get in contact with Lennon? Oh, it says it alright, but it only gives us a tease as I believe the full outcome will prevail in book two. Hudson is determined to remedy his mistakes he made when it came to Lennon, but with mistakes come consequences and dang, you’ll need a bottle of Tequila to continue the Burn until we can get our hands-on book two to clear away our Haze. Like the song, “Tequila” by Dan + Shay, you can move on, but add Tequila into the mix and it gets a little hazing remembering things and your memories.
I loved that as you read the story you saw snippets of country songs and I’m still not sure it that was intentional seeing as he’s a country singer or it just happened like that ironically (oh, and yes, there’s a song called just that and I’m drawing a blank on his name). If you’re not a country fan, you’d completely miss this, but I am so I thought it was pretty cool even if it wasn’t on purpose.
Colton is Hudson’s BF and he’s someone we are hoping that will get a story of his own. He’s a good guy and funny and he deserves to be knocked down a little bit. The story is told mostly from Lennon’s POV, we do see a couple from Hudson and I would love to see more on his POV in the upcoming book as I may just have to stomp on him a little with how our emotions were left at the end of this book. The conclusion Tequila Burn better be the Burn we are hoping for the “good” Burn and not the “bad” Burn. This book is a page turner from beginning to end and until I can get my hands on the conclusion. Shots it is! Feel the Burn! Just saying, “Is anyone still Hazing days later?” cause I know I am.

This story had me drawn in from the beginning. It’s a great story about Lennon and Hudson. The pages keep turning as you are trying to find out what happens. It’s a duet so you know Melissa is going to leave you hanging. Boy does she. Many great side characters as well. Can’t wait for book 2.

Melissa's words have a way of sucking you in. I was hooked by the end of chapter one.

This is a fluffy read with low angst for the majority of the book but don't be fooled. This has a plot twist that will knock you off your feet in the most jaw-dropping, anger-inducing way possible. When I finished the last page, I may or may not have thrown a fit because I was that upset.
I loved the backstory of how Hudson and Lennon first met and seeing their instant chemistry and connection. Although they are apart for five years, when they find each other again it was endearing and gave me all the feels. There was hardly any grief, bitterness, groveling or push and pull, which I enjoyed. I was all prepared to coast along on the boat of drama-free happiness, but little did I know what was ahead. There is some drama surrounding Lennon's ex, but it is minimal and not a big storyline. I loved the supporting characters, particularly Lennon's best friend Emma. One thing that did kind of bother me was the abundance of sex, which is typically something I would never dream of saying. However, it seemed like every time they saw each other (this features a long distance relationship), their first priority was jumping each other. Although frequent, the scenes were pretty short with not much detail. I wish we could have seen more of their non-sexual interactions, but I still think their relationship was developed well and I believed in their connection.
As for that plot twist, all I can say is WTF. It was such a shock and beautifully crafted because I absolutely did not see that one coming. Starting book two right away! I need to see that they get a HEA.

Lennon and Hudson met during spring break her senior year of college; she was 22 and he was 25. They hit it off and shared a sizzling night together. Hudson was clearly interested and so was Lennon but then something happened and they never saw each other again.
Fast forward 5 years and Hudson is a up and coming country singer superstar and Lennon is a designer. They accidentally ran into each other at one of his concerts and that’s how she found out what he was up to. Hudson clearly wanted to pick up from where they left off five years ago. Lennon was a bit hesitant but he was persistent and she gave in. Their relationship was blooming and Hudson made sure to see her every free time he had. But then the amazing author had like two chapters in his POV that had me questioning what he was really up to and what he was hiding.
When things blew up I did NOT see that secret that Hudson was hiding. I really would like to see how he’s going to save himself from the wrath of Lennon especially after everything she had just gone thru with her cheating ex that wanted her back no matter what.

Hudson and Lennon. Gosh those two. Get ready to fall in love with them. Hudson and Lennon meet and both just thinking its a one night thing. They both go through the years thinking about each other, until 5 years pass and they see each other again. Its like instalove/lust/where have you been all my life kinda thing. These two, even though they won't admit it to each other yet, their love is there. I lovvvvvvve Melissa Toppen books. I knew when I saw she was releasing this duet, I had to get in on this. I devoured this duet, I loved it. I love Hudson and Lennon together. Relationships go through good, bad, rough patches, its just trying to figure out how you fit in the equation and if its worth fighting for. Definitely add this to your TBR..

It is a really good book. An easy read about a one night stand that rekindles 5 years later. It was nice put together, but I wish it had more relationship development.
In some parts of the book I really wished that the pace was slower - for example them seeing each other at the concert and acting like they are old friends, not two people who haven't seen each other in 5 years. And I get that they are supposed to have this "special - one in a lifetime - connection", but still.
Also the 'lie' was kind of predictable.
