The Indigenous chrononauts’ plot to sabotage the mission to the so-called New World takes a strange turn. Reeling from disaster, the Niña’s crew places Tad under lock and key and Columbus develops a disturbing personal interest in his would-be assassin. As the admiral lets down his guard to decide if this prisoner is a godsend or Satan himself, Tad moves to make the most of the situation. But as his influence on the past intensifies, his wife and friends in 2112 find themselves in the crosshairs of a new history.
Stephen Graham Jones is the NYT bestselling author thirty-five or so books. He really likes werewolves and slashers. Favorite novels change daily, but Valis and Love Medicine and Lonesome Dove and It and The Things They Carried are all usually up there somewhere. Stephen lives in Boulder, Colorado. It's a big change from the West Texas he grew up in.
So Tad is under suspicion due to sabotage. He's being held captive in the hull of the boat. Columbus has taken an interest in him and because Tad is a linguist, he's speaking their language (I think) because Columbus understands him. Tad leans on historical text and an important date to "prove" to Columbus that he's an asset to his voyage and not to be killed. Meanwhile, Sosh and The Yellow Kid are also being held captive by other "earth-divers". A new character who is an elder and wears a wolf skin visits Emily. My favorite issue so far and has a beautiful two page spread in the middle.
In this issue they’re expanding the story more, revisiting old characters, and reveal a little more about characters introduced in the last issue. This shows all the characters in their attempts at survival in an apocalypse and what righting the collision course for destruction looks like to them. There was some ominous reveals, and foreshadowing teasing some of the chaos that may be to come. Can’t wait to see how this story unfolds!
Idk, I think I need to rate this as a collective when it’s all out. Reading issue to issue is not a great experience with this book. The story is too… big to have to wait a month for a 36 page issue. Idk, this started out strong, but I’m getting frustrated having to wait because the story is going all over the place.
Humanity has given up hope, except for a group of outcast Indigenous survivors who have discovered a time travel portal in a cave in the middle of the desert and figured out where the world took a sharp turn for the worst: America. The only solution is to kill the man who started it all: Christopher Columbus.
This wild journey continues in the third issue, and we get to see a few other glimpses into what is going on and some cause/effect stuff. I thought I would have more answers in this issue or that it would not give me MORE questions, at least, but... that ending?! WHAT?! Issue 4 ASAP, please!
