Clova's life changes for ever when her brave mum dies during a search-and-rescue mission. Forbidden from the dangerous mountain by her dad, Clova is devastated, until she finds an abandoned border collie, Tatty. After earning his trust, Clova securely starts to train hims as a search-and-rescue dog.
When two boys are lost in the wilds, Tatty and Clova track them down. Instead of a hero's welcome, Dad is furious with her for risking her life and vows to send Tatty away.
Clova is heartbroken. Can she prove to dad that she and Tatty belong together?
Finished reading this stunner this morning. I'm a huge fan of all of Juliette's books and there's so much to love with this one. Clova & abandoned collie, Tatty's burgeoning relationship. Compelling family friction. And the ever present beauty & danger of the mountain. Feeling all the emotions right now! Dramatic stuff.
I am utterly shocked that there aren't far more reviews for this epic tale! A complete page-turner full of emotion and such fleshed-out characters and relationships, I could not put this book down and adored Juliette's writing. I will recommend this to many other people and hope it can continue to shed light on the amazing work search and rescue dogs/teams do.
A heart-warming tale of loss and coming to terms with grief, and of friendship and adventure.
This is a wonderful story that had me hooked right from the start. Clova is a great character – her raw feelings of loss and loneliness after losing her mother when she died in a search and rescue mission and her difficult relationship with her grieving dad are so skilfully portrayed they make the reader eager for something good to happen to her. This comes in the form of a frightened dog without a permanent home, and the slow building of trust between the two and the hope this brings to Clova is a joy to read. With plenty of action packed into the pages, and some thrilling and dangerous situations for Clova and Tatty to work their way through together, this book keeps the reader engrossed until the very last page.
A fantastic book for every upper primary and KS2 library – it’s not only a great tale of friendship and overcoming grief with hope, but also teaches the reader lots about mountain search-and rescue missions and dog training. A definite five out of five stars!
Emotional. This book really portrays how a child and dog can become rooted together and the emotion when lost. This book also shows that children are brave characters and can do the right things if they know it's the correct thing to do.Loved this book 100% recommend.Thank you Juliette Forrest!
