This one is a bit of a weird experience. I had this novel on my list for a while after seeing the manwha, which is fairly new and didnt have a lot of chapters yet. I was really interested in the premise of it, a bastard prince disguised as a grand duchess, and I decided I would just read the novel instead because I thought that it was the 4 volumes on amazon. I WAS WRONG. This book is long, like 313k words and thats not including the side stories. I dont think this book is bad, but the writing feels very simple and it was hard to keep me engaged. The beginning had me interested, because I was curious where the plot was going to go and they werent a couple yet, but then the middle of the story became a slog. There even was a chasing arc which I love and tbh I wasnt really impressed. Then the climax towards the end got really interesting and Yvette was finally revealed after not being in 80% of the book, and there was actually a rly interesting plot point here that got extremely dark. But then after it just kinda felt rushed and I was ready to be done. It took me forever to finish the last 20% of this book tbh One thing I was not a fan of was the smut scenes, I think they had a very realistic first time scene which I appreciated, where its awkward and not necessarily enjoyable, but after that one I was just… its very much a case of the “no stop dont” and the top keeps going and then its just overlooked or its made out to be that “oh he was actually enjoying it he just acted like he didnt” IDGAF i hate that shit sm. There were so many scenes where I just felt blatantly uncomfortable especially this one after Gisele turned into the monster thing and he was like stuck inside him overnight? Dont even get me started… I honestly think this book is a case of “the manwha does a better job than the novel” because the art is beautiful and honestly so much of the novel is just explaining random things or going on longer than needed, and I think the manwha will hopefully cut a lot of it out. Maybe even make the smut better because damn it was not very enjoyable most of the time lol. Did I enjoy this book? Yes, although I will say overall I was disappointed because I had extremely high hopes for this one and heard really good reviews and ultimately it fell flat for me T_T It could definitely be me being nitpicky and just being in a bit of a slump, but this took me so much longer to read than I wanted it to. Theres also like 8 billion side stories and I do not have the energy to tackle those right now but maybe in the future? who knows. I do plan to read the manwha though once its farther! I would say check out the manwha if you are interested in the story to see if you would like it.

To protect his family, Rensley arrived in the frigid Oldenland disguised as his sister Yvette , who had fled in the dead of night to escape an arranged marriage. Though he tried to escape at the first opportunity, his true identity was soon revealed to Gisel . However, instead of unleashing his fury, Gisel reacted with pragmatic coolness: he proposed a marriage of convenience to maintain political appearances and, at the same time, offer him unexpected protection. Settled in Archong, Rensley decided to join the Knights. Beneath the weight of his armor and the secrecy of his identity, he began to melt the hearts of the distant northerners with a warmth and charm impossible to ignore. In this process of forced coexistence, Rensley succumbed to Gisel's quiet, indifferent consideration; he, for his part, found himself unable to resist the allure of this radiant stranger. Unfortunately, driven by his low self-esteem and the fear of becoming a burden to the ruler, Rensley fled the castle immediately after the final ball, convinced that his absence would be a blessing in disguise. Fate was cruel. After his escape, Rensley was captured by the wicked king of Cornia, his homeland, where his father's faction subjected him to terrible tortures. Upon discovering his wife's disappearance, a blind fury seized Gisel , who finally understood the immensity of hir own love. He marched south at the head of hir army , sweeping away enemies with overwhelming magic until he rescued him from captivity. After clearing up misunderstandings and crushing external threats, Rensley's identity as the male bridegroom was proudly acknowledged. They celebrated a second wedding, this time real and legitimate, cementing their status as the true rulers and partners of Oldenland.
Side stories: The signs of Rensley's powers as a spirit summoner manifested in all their splendor. Using his magic, he managed to revitalize the desolate and arid snow-covered lands , transforming the eternal winter landscape into green and fertile valleys. This miracle earned him the eternal respect of his people, who began to venerate him as the true Mother of the North The couple's deep connection and Rensley's spiritual magic worked one last miracle: the birth of their son . This heir definitively intertwined their lives, allowing them to bury the pain of their lonely pasts and create a warm, fulfilling, and united family .

One of the best stories Ive read this year... Giesell and Rensley have so much chemistry and I love how this story is a romance with so much complexity on a political level, Magic, worldbuilding... but doesnt leave out their romance relationship... or hacks storytelling in everything else because of the romance. To me... it had the perfecto balance between both, making it so hard to stop Reading it. Also... ehe have an Author here who knows he to write smutt... Ive never seen an animal versión of Giesell but wasnt hard to Picture it by Reading it... So I 100% recommend it...
(Volume 5) LOVELY. A LOVELY ENDING FOR SURE. It's not that complex but it's so lovely. Everything ended well and I can't help but want to read the side stories too (and Idk where to look for it lol). If you know, let me know welp :,)
