Jayme: Everyone thinks I’m so sweet and innocent. Or worse, they just think of me as Jace’s little sister!
From the first moment I saw him I knew Conner, or Conny to his friends, was meant to be mine. There was an immediate connection between us. The desire in his eyes made me feel wanted and seen.
Then my damn brother had to step in and ruin it all. Now Conny has me pushed permanently into the friend-zone, despite me being old enough, attending the same school, and I suspect his own feelings too.
It’s a good thing I am determined and flat out refuse to give up on us being more without ever having tried.
Conny: My best friend’s little sister.. why did she have to be his little sister?!? She is the ultimate forbidden fruit. A fruit so juicy I want to devour her.
I can’t get her out of my mind. She has invaded every dream and almost all my waking thoughts too.
The only reprieve I get is when I’m on the ice. My mind is focused there. I have to be because It’s just Me versus a flying piece of hardened rubber. No matter how good my teammates are, if I’m off my game we lose, and I’m no loser.
Once I’m off the ice again though, SHE floods my thoughts once more. You’d think with pucks being shot at me all the time, that I wouldn’t be afraid of anything. So.. than why does my feelings for Jayme scare me so much?

I was so excited for this book!! And it did not disappoint!! Jayme is so confident, snarky and not afraid of what she wants while Conner is absolutely delectable. The way he describes Jayme is absolutely heart melting! I need a Conny in my life lol
I was sent this as an ARC read by the amazing cata ree in exchange for an honest review
If you know me, you know I will eat up an ice hockey romance, so you know I could not put this one down! Finished it in one day and every time I had to put it down I found myself desperate to grab my kindle and start reading again!
Brothers best friend is not a trope I have read a lot of in books (other than fanfic) and turns out I love it(no surprise there😂) and of course I’m going to fall in love with the goalie on the ice hockey team!
“ every part of me has been captured by you. When I tell you that you own me, I mean that completely. You hold my heart, my soul, and my mind in your hands and I never want them back” (melts slowly) ugh what a man heart eyes everywhere 😍
This is a fast paced and easy read book with great character interaction and the spice is definitely next level! Like for real, I didn’t expect it to be as spicey as it was especially towards the end 😂As the book is quite fast paced I did wish some scenes were a bit longer and/or developed a bit more for the plot as some aspects felt rushed however it still read really well and I enjoyed it! As I haven’t read the first book yet I don’t know if we meet Jayme and Connor and that story line, so it will be really fun to go back and read that to see if it would add anything to this story too!
Also I love books that have little mentions of songs and music so when i saw Kelsea ballerinis name pop it just made this even better !
This book is part of the penalty series however it can be read as a standalone but trust me after you have read this one you’re gonna want to read the first one I know I now deffo do!
Without spoiling there was a super cute scene at the end where Connor and Jayme have a little game of ice hockey and it actually kills me I just love it so much! And it may or may not involve a jersey with his name and position on it!
Delay of game is officially released on the 13th of June!! Thank you again cata ree for the chance to read and review this book! I look forward to reading the first in the series and more to come! 👀😊
Cata Ree gets a shut out with DELAY OF GAME (Penalty #2). Welsby University hockey goalie Conner (Conny) Magnusson can’t get Jayme Jackson out of his head. She is the only thing he cares about more than hockey. Unfortunately, she is his best friend and teammate Jace Jackson’s (RUNNING INTERFERENCE, Penalty #1) little sister. Jayme is starting school at Welsby and will be Conner and Jace’s new roommate. He needs to friendzone her, but Jayme has other plans.
DELAY OF GAME is a heartfelt best friend’s little sister romance. The characters are likeable and face interesting obstacles. Conny and Jayme have been attracted to each other but there is the bro code little sister obstacle. Plus, both characters have other family issues they must deal with.
This is the first book that I have read by Cata Ree. I enjoyed her writing style. The story was skillfully written and flowed well. It was hard to put down. After reading this story, I want to read book one, RUNNING INTERFERENCE. In addition, to future books in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Jayme and Conner met a year or so ago and both instantly felt this attraction that neither could deny, but Conner being Jayme’s brother’s best friend and teammate immediately friend zoned her even if it broke his own heart to do so. Their chemistry and pull to each other is so strong that it takes so much out of Conner to fight against it and Jayme has had enough. Putting it all on the line Jayme gives him a choice to either choose her or let her move on. Will Conner be able to let her move on to someone who isn’t him or will he fight for what they both want while risking his friendship? This was the first book I’ve read by this author, and I really enjoyed the emotions, characters, and the steam that was packed into it. I fell for Conner, hated his nickname Conny, but loved the guy he was loyal, loving, and hot.
This is the second book in this series, and this is Conner / Conny and Jayme’s story. There is and instant connection when Conner and Jayme meet, but he puts her into the friend-zone when he discovers she is his best friend and teammates’ little sister. The chemistry between these two is intense and undeniable, and they complement each other perfectly. This is a well written story which has family, friendships, angst, humor, witty banter, heartbreak, emotions, surprises, drama, and love, which leads to an entertaining sports romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This is a good fast paced hockey romance. I have just started reading sports romance genre and I enjoyed reading this. The chemistry between Jayme and Connor is undeniable. Connor tries to deny the attraction between the two of them because he realizes her brother is his best friend and teammate. My favorite part was when Jayme gave Connor the ultimatum “to choose her or giver her up”. Which caused Conner to have his realization to fight for her. Cata Ree skillfully wrote a book loads of banter, family, angust, friendship, emotion, love and twists that leads to an amusing story.
Delay Of Game is book 2 in the Penalty series. It's all about hockey (yummmmm) and is Jayme and Conners story. It's a fast paced, brothers best friend read that's intriguing and captivating. They both have such a desire for each other but when Jace, Jaymes brother, interferes backing off is the logical thing to do. Of course who's going to be logical.
"He's my undoing. He's my strength. He's my making."
Jayme is finally in college, joining her big bro at the same school and his best friend. She's loved him forever and just can't fight it anymore. They're in the same place now, it's time. Be he's her brothers best friend and that can hinder things. Jayme is determined and willing to take things in hand and get them done but will Conny follow?
This was way spicier that her first book. We love a string FMC that knows what she wants. I felt like her brothers reaction was too dramatic for the circumstances, and they built that moment up for the first half of the book only for it to last not even two chapters. I also didn’t love how Jayme seemed to be a completely different person than she was in the first book. It was like also the growth happened between this book and last or went unwritten.
Delay of Game is the second book in Cata Ree's Penalty Series. I loved reading and following Jayme and Conner/Conny's brother's best friend romance. For those who love college sports romances, you will love the chemistry between these two characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.

"I think this is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. Conner & Jayme’s book ticked a lot of boxes for me, even before reading the first word. The whole brothers best friend trope is one of my favorites. Add in the teammates factor and I was rubbing my hands together in anticipation of how this story would play out. Needless to say I loved how their relationship played out. Although there were plenty of times I wanted to fling my kindle away in frustration thanks to Conny but I could also see he was coming from a good place. It goes without saying Cata is now on my radar and I am definitely keeping my eyes open for the next book she releases." ~Sharon
