Jerry McNeal #10

Chesapeake Chaos

Rate this book
In this tenth installment of the Jerry McNeal Series, Jerry and Gunter head to the Tidewater area of Virginia, which is the suspected home of the elusive Hash Mark Killer.

Once in Hampton Roads, the only thing more prevalent than sailors in this military town are white cargo vans such as the one the killer is linked to. Jerry soon finds his psychic radar jammed time and time again as each van seems to harbor something keeping him from homing on the one they are looking for.

It soon becomes apparent that if they are going to have any luck landing the killer, Jerry is going to have to agree to Fred’s plan of casting a wide net and using the most sought-after bait to entice the Hash Mark Killer into the open. Bait like Susie Richardson, the only living person who can positively identify the man.

It’s all hands on deck as Max and Savannah come on board to help Jerry and Gunter and to help keep Susie safe.
Will the gang be able to use their combined gifts to lure in the Hash Mark Killer? Or will he prove too slippery to be caught?

These 10 books are fun to read, but really short. They're more like a novellas than novels... And they have to be read in order because they flow one into the other and if you missed one you'll missed a piece of the whole story.

I listened to the Audible audio book version of this Jerry McNeal series book. There is no audio book edition yet on GR, so this is in the Kindle version for now.

As usual, a wonderful fast moving well-written story. Beautifully narrated. It's great when a book series is matched perfectly to the narrator. Enjoyment only increases.

It's nice that the audio books for this already established series are catching up by being produced and made available on a quick schedule. I wish Audible would notify listeners when a series is added to.

Highly recommend this series - intelligent well-rounded characters. The K-9 ghost dog is a bit mischievous, adding some humor into what would normally be a detective type of book.

Love the dog antics!

As the titles say, these are snapshots, so easy, quick reads and a bingeable series (if that's a word.) Jerry learns to accept and use his talent. Having a ghostly sidekick K-9 with a fun personality makes the human interaction even more fun.
Having the same cover picture of Gunter makes the books easy to find, but it would also be amusing to see a picture of him with his doggy grin, teasing the reader. And don't forget the notch in his ear!

Hook on this series

This series of books is sad, happy, scary and you never know where your going. After reading the first book, I can't wait for the rest of the books. I hope the series just keeps on going and never stops.

Sherry Burton continues to write an interesting storyline about a former Pennsylvania State Trooper, Jerry, and his companion dog, Gunter. The twist is Jerry can see and talk with Ghost and Gunter is a Ghost dog. I enjoy Sherry’s books, but even with a government twist the storyline is repetitive. This series is getting too repetitive and predictable.

Another chapter in the Life of Jerry McNeal

This book had a couple of side stories along with the climax of the hunt the for hash mark killer. It was good, but there wasn’t as much suspense.

Jerry and Gunter find themselves hot on the trail of the Hash Mark Killer, which leads them and his Government Bosses, Fred & Barney, to Chesapeake.
Max and her mum are meanwhile jetting to where Jerry has been placed in a security complex, where they are promised, sun, sea & shopping to their hearts content, in exchange for the help that Max can offer Jerry in her particular psychic field.
They are not alone, all the redheaded spirit females that were the victims of the Hash Mark Killer have arrived in force to see their murderer caught and sent to trial, but that has yet to come to fruition and have come up with a plan of their own to assist with the capture.
White, the local Police Chief of Chesapeake has his own problems with a tight knit illusive gang of robbers who have been stealing from the houses of the rich, with such prescision, that they haven't been seen or or heard of between heists.
Can Jerry & Gunter help or are they too involved with the Hash Mark Killer............?

Another gold star

I got book three for $.99 on a book app. Loved it went back to buy the others. I am now impatiently waiting for each new book. Max is a great 12 year old and the dynamics between Jerry and his ghost dog, Gunter is great. I love how Sherry has made Gunter and Fred a game of "am I ever going to see him?" I know this review goes all over the place but trust me you'll enjoy it and the whole series if you haven't read any of the others yet. Nov 29 can't come fast enough for the next book.🙂

the team, Jerry, Gunter, and the girls are ready for the take down of the murderer/rapist.

The whole team, Jerry, Gunter, Fred , Max and her Mother, and all the girls both alive and dead are getting ready for the setup of the rapist. The man that had killed eight women. They found where he came from and tormented him. Of course there are other things happing that involve Jerry and Max that are also part of their new job. Now they just have to get through this with no one else being killed.

Great story.

I love Jerry and his partner Gunter. They work so well together. Fred has grown on me and his partner Barney. This book shows Jerry that he doesn't have to always work alone that there are people who wants to help him. His granny is a hoot and I can't wait to hear her pop out to give Jerry a ear full on life. I missed Jerry talking to his old boss who has treated him like a son. I hope the author hasn't cut him out of the rest of the series. I would love to keep reading more of there adventures to come. Please keep up the good work.

Hey straight up I am telling you to get the first book and if you are like me, you'll have hooked.

From book 1 to this one, I have been tied up, hooked or however you might want to say regarding reading this series. This series has had me stuck with finding out ALL of the "what ifs".

These books has heart, for me this description (has heart) is perfect to relate the story too.

I still have 2 books still to read and I am (as soon as I submit this review) about to get the last ones.

Hope you'll enjoy these books like I have.

changes

Jerry finds the serial killer but it is a true team effort and some uncomfortable discussions and insights arise from the gathering. Fred is becoming a closer confident and friend, but Seltzer and Max and Granny and Gunter still get the most time. Max and her mom bring a new skill set to the team and become more official. The courtroom component was fascinating and I want to know what the ghosts did to the killer. The ending opened up the premise of a true family and love for Jerry which would be amazing, so ready for the next book!

I was disappointed with this novella and the conclusion of the serial-killer arc. There was no real suspence or stakes.

I could really have done without the juvenile "romance" plot. Unnecessary and took up too much of the novella's page count.

I preferred it when Jerry and Gunter were still mostly on their own with occasional long-distance help from Max. Jerry has also become too perfect and for me that is starting to make him unlikable.

I will read the next one and see if I'll continue.

Series ending?

I wish I had a Jerry McNeal in my life! All 10 that I have read keep my interest to the very end. This maybe fiction but it feels like you are paying tribute to the unsung heros in law inforcement. I recommend this series to all. Sherry Burton has a way of capturing readers before they know what 8s happening.

1 more book to go. Going to miss Jerry and his 'pals'

Love the ghost dog

I love this series but I read them too fast. Jerry and Gunner are my favorite duo. Max is such a cool kid and the series is well written. Ms. Burton thank you for becoming my favorite cozy mystery author. I am not going to ask you to write faster cause I don't want to mess with perfection. But as a retired librarian great books are hard to find. Read this series people! You will be glad you did!!

Love Those Two

Jerry and Gunther are on the hunt again! Only this time he's joined by Max and her Mom, Savannah, the first victim that escaped and the ghosts of some of the other victims. You've got to read about Gunther's tricks, Max's premonitions and Jerry's heart dilemma. Great job. Thank you! Can't wait for their next adventure. Only other thing I can say is the stories end to quickly.

Great book, great series

If you haven't gotten into the Jerry McNeal (and Gunter) series yet, it's time to do it!! Start with book 1, and just don't stop! This time, characters from previous books are brought back together to make a great team to fight crime--and make Jerry uncomfortable. Gunter scares the bejeebers out of a few people, always protecting Jerry and the people he cares about.

I LOVE this series!!! I rarely do book reviews. I love the character development in each book. I’m getting used to the books being a sort of short read. I liken it to reading tv show episodes. I know all good things eventually come to an end and at some point there will be an end, but I hope Jerry, Gunter and crew can keep going for many many many many more books in the series. Please don’t end for a very very very long time.

Uniquely Entertaining

Although Jerry McNeal is as a live as you and I, his partner is a canine K-9 of the spirit world. And whether following clues or taking down bad guys, the pair get into some sticky unexplainable high jinx on a regular basis. A book to make you laugh and gasp at the same time. Very entertaining.

Woof

A mystery with a twist, it is also a pleasant read. Several concentric stories that keep the interest going. Also liked the fact that several things were explained instead of going through each and every line/ action. A really fast read because it describes without taking a full page to describe the weather or how the lobby was decorated.

A terrific story

This was a terrific conclusion to the ongoing case of the serial killer targeting red headed women. With a bit of drama, lots of humor, and an unconventional bunch, they might finally get their guy.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.

Love the books! Love the stories and characters. I am reading them one after another. The stories are full of fun, adventure, love and action. I love catching bad guys and love ghost stories. The stories do not have profanity or porn. Love that! Thank you for writing them.

Justice served?

I like clean mysteries. I also like to imagine the characters and by what’s written, imagine them in my mind. I like this series because it lets me play detective and see the characters as I think they are. I also get to guess what happens next, this one was a surprise. I like that too. ; ) Good reading.

Closing in !!!!

Another great read! Fred and Barney bring Jerry on board and they set out to catch the killer of the redheads, but in order to do that Jerry and Gunter need the help of all the women, and that includes Susie, the only one who's ever seen him and Savannah, as well as Max and April. But is there something going on between Jerry and one of the women?

good read

Now that I’m not expecting scary killer movies with much drama, I’m really enjoying the Jerry McNeal series, they’re sort of light and a little thought provoking re: spirits, afterlife, etc. Max is a charmer, Gunter is great and Jerry is a good central figure, Fred is funny and I like the interactions with the spirits. I’ll keep reading the series.

Chaos can be fun but not good for your friends lives.

Way to go in finding the bad guys. Oh there are always more than one bad thing happening in Jerry's life. And more than one one spirit needing his help. Nowcan he figure out his heart and open up to the April? Maybe? Just asking.....

Jerry and Gunter go to the Tidewater area of Virginia where they believe the Hash Mark Killer lives.
Jerry experiences a jam in his psychic radar and has to go with Fred's plan to lure the killer out, but it could put people he cares about in danger.
When various red heads appear to surprise their friend, it puts the whole plan in jeopardy.
