When Joely Hudson returns home to Indiana after living abroad, she’s reluctant to open her heart. After all, she’s been hurt in the past and badly. When she meets Garrett Gordon and his daughter Emma, she’s tempted to let down her guard. She holds back though—she doesn’t think someone like Garrett would ever be interested in someone like her, and she doesn’t want to get hurt trying to find out.

As if her insecurities weren’t bad enough, she’s picked up an obsessive, murderous stalker who’s determined to make her his own.

When Garrett moved to Indiana to take a job with the Olman County Sheriff’s Department, he never expected to stumble across someone like Joely. He knows he can’t have a casual fling with her, but he isn’t sure he’s ready for anything else. After all, it isn’t just his heart that could get broken if things don’t work out—his daughter’s could, as well. As much as he tries to keep his feelings for Joely casual, he’s drawn to her fast and hard, mind, body, and soul. Just as he comes to terms with his feelings, Joely’s stalker ups the ante by staking his claim in a vengeful way, and Garrett may end up losing her forever.

Watching is the seventh book in the Olman County series. It was previously published as Seduction in the Shadows by T.L. Haddix.

T.L. Haddix is the author of the Firefly Hollow Series, women's fiction romances set in Eastern Kentucky, as well as numerous other projects under various pen names. She's a self-described eccentric, a somewhat reclusive stick in the mud who lives in Eastern Kentucky with her husband and their cat-children. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, reading, genealogy, casual bird-and-critter watching, and being short.

She writes books about characters who are flawed but who somehow still manage to overcome the challenges thrown in their paths and reach for happiness with their soul mates. And while she can't tell a joke in the real world to save her life, she tries to inject her characters' lives with quirky, unintentional humor that surprises readers at just the right moment.

Garrett has just moved into town with his four year old daughter. Settling to make a home for them both he joins the local police department and life is going good. Then he meets Joely. The estranged sister of a family he has become close to.
Moving back home after so much time away, Joely is unsure what awaits her. Having spent the last few years in India trying to escape her mother in particular, she moves back home to support her best friend through a very difficult time. She doesn't realize exactly what life has in store for her though...
With her relationship with her mother back in turmoil, a sexy determined cop at her heels and a sudden interest from a crazed stalker, the move is going well so far. Joely must learn to forget past hurt in order to restart her relationships with her family members and try for something with Garrett. Only one problem. Can they stop her stalker before he gets to Joely first?

I really loved this book. There was great suspense and angst from different angles (the two leads, the stalker, family issues) that didn't frustrate you. The actual romance was very sweet and real and I love Joely. It's not often I can say I loved the lead female but Joely was brilliant. A nice length book that was enough to keep you reading for a while but not too long so that you get p****d off with it.
All in all I can say I really enjoyed it, it had a little bit of everything to keep you engaged. My heart broke for Joely and couldn't wait for her to get her HEA.

disappointment

I have read the previous books in this series, however #7 was very difficult to finish. The characters were not hardly believable. Cringe worthy.

The title and the cover is enough to draw a reader into wanting to read this book with the mystic and allure they provide. Not having read any of the other novels in this series or by this author for that matter this was exciting for me to open one not having read before. Humor opens it up which mixed with the characters is a great start for me that has me hooked right away because of curiosity. Joely is the one character I fall in love with right away with her independence with character. The author presents a clear picture of her now and then that helps you to embody this character. The family background also gives you a clear picture of what she went through and how she has become who she is today. The sympathy you feel for her gets intense at time which takes talent for a author to get that out of me right away. Being the youngest and do mean that literally is probably part of it also. She has met her brother's new co worker Garrett that is just the man once you read about him that seems just right for her. Being romance is a large part of the reading of the novel with the intrigue gotta see who is gonna be the man hehe. He also has a daughter that she will easily interact with that will be a plus. So with the flow of this storyline you are quickly immersed with the building of this relationship that will have its ups and downs those being mystery filled with much drama. Family drama will also have a large part in this novel which with everything combined makes for a explosive read that was totally unexpected but delightful surprise. The plots are woven beautifully that once you pick this up putting it down will not be a option. Hey maybe warning of that nature needs to accompany this author's books. The heat level being very comparable also to the type of novel this is. It is also wrapped up nicely at the end with a big fat bow if you will. When you are finished you will experience a book hangover that will make it a bit of a challenge to find the next one that is just as good. Received a arc for a honest review.

The End!?

So sorry to see the end of book 7 of the Shadows Collection. Maybe it will continue? After all Leroy, Indiana can't be that small. Lol This book had me a little disenchanted in the beginning. Every book had is own set of couples and a different crime for each. This book started out repeating so much from book 6 I was getting worried. While it was from another character's point of view the storyline wasn't. Not until several chapters later did we discover a new dangerous situation for the newest person to be revealed. The romance part was absolutely delicious. The newest person to arrive on the scene courted his girl so sweetly. The plot was intriguing and kept me on the edge until it was over and everybody kissed and made up. I really enjoyed reading the entire collection. The characters were created with authenticity and the manner in which T. L. Haddix writes is creative and believable. There was not any point in any book where I thought this does not make sense. Additionally, great job on editing and proofreading. I am sure it was not perfect but it seemed like it was. I can honestly say I didn't see anything that stood out to me.

Really I would rate this book a 4.5. I take off a little bit because at first I was really confused. I felt like I walked into family reunion mid-conversation without knowing anyone because I had not read the previous books. You don't have to read the first six novels, but it wouldn't hurt either. It takes about 15% of the book to feel really comfortable without any background knowledge. Once the book really starts to focus on the main characters, it really takes off. I enjoyed the suspense and the twists and turns throughout the novel. There was lots of passion and connection with the main characters which really kept me reading. Overall, great novel.

This is my other favorite book in this series (along with Under the Moon's Shadow). I love Joely. The misunderstanding from her teenage years is heartbreaking and has impacted her in ways not seen in the rest of the books. I absolutely love this series and I highly recommend reading them if you haven't already. Each book is a stand alone, but I recommend reading them in order so you can meet the entire crew!

I like your style of writing

Hidden in the shadows was the first one I read. And I feel in love with the way you write. Your characters are so real. You can identify with them such as with Maria and Joely It's like you are part of their friends/family dynamics. I hope you will continue to publish such exciting stories.

Love the whole series

I love that the series has love, haunting pasts, and lovable characters in a small town. Each book brings another member of this close knit family to a brilliant resolution. Read them all
