My review will be live on my blog - donnasbookblog on 1st August 2023 - publication day!

This was a really nice book to read and I loved the different colours for the sections as we climbed higher and higher though the canopy.

The book was easy to read and the story was easy to follow too with the main characters basically working their way through, and up through the rainforest and the different levels from the ground to the canopy. The little facts added in were a perfect touch.

The illustrations were lovely and really brought the book to life.

It is 5 stars from me for this one, a great introduction to the rainforest, the different levels and species that can be found the higher up you go and some fun facts too – very highly recommended!

Before now this series has given us a really awkward one about the planets, and another about sea-life, which was much better. Here we're on the winning streak, as the layers of the book that increase in size portray our movement through the different layers of the tropical rainforest, from the squidgy ground at the foot of the trees right up to being above the canopy. The book format, with the pages of varying size like a nicely stacked, well, stack of hoops, is always going to appeal to hands new to non-fiction, and the visual style and basic level info inside will not hurt in that regard. The planet edition was really uncalled for, but this shows the merit of this approach, and deserves its school shelf place.

What initially drew me to this text was the front cover (yes, unfortunately I DO judge a book by it's cover). The representation of the layers in various earthy shades made me feel excited to pick it up. Inside, each page represents another layer, beginning with the innermost layer. This manner of organization is visually appealing to the reader; it makes the information much more digestible. As an informational text (not quite a non-fiction text), provides 3-5 facts per layer, which makes it accessible for much younger readers (4-5 year olds). This text is valuable in that there are very few truly fun and appropriate informational text for this age group on the rainforest!

Learning is fun!
We are invited to join Evie and her pet dog, Juno, as the explore all the levels and things to see and hear in a tropical rainforest. It's terrific!
The illustrations by Neil Clark are delightful, imaginative, striking, and brilliantly colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Quarto Publishing Group/Frances Lincoln Children's Books/Happy Yak via NetGalley. Thank you!

Explore the Rainforest was a great children's book. I cannot wait to go out and purchase it for my son. Digitally, it was a little hard to envision, at first, because it appears to be very small and I did not understand that the physical book will most likely have pages that build up to a lovely arc at the end. The story described the main parts of the Rain Forest. The wording kept my 5 year old engaged. The illustrations were great.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for allowing my family to read this book in advance.

Evie and her pet dog, Juno go on an adventure through the rainforest in this story! Each page of the book takes the reader up higher in the rainforest layers to find what lives there. The pictures were colorful and easy to point out the animals and insects. We found the vocabulary easy to understand as we learned about this particular part of the world. Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own!

A missed opportunity… the author has a friendly red frog hiding at each location on the journey which is a fun scavenger hunt for readers. Yet the character is not introduced or more featured in the story.

Really clever format with the rainbow shape and each page being the next shade of rainforest green in the arch. Bright and engaging. Easy and fun way for kids to learn.

A colorful, informative book for little kids to dip their toes into nonfiction reading. The dozen or so tidbits of information are just enough to inform and not bore. Colorful pictures keep beginning readers engaged. Best for grades K-2.
