I was hesitant at first but eventually decided to give this book a try because finding a resource that understands the importance of trust these days is so rare. In our post-truth world, where people are bombarded with information from all sides and it's hard to know who or what to believe, trust is more important than ever. And that's especially true when it comes to building a brand. This book explains beautifully how trust signals are the little things that help build trust and credibility with our audience and leads to target audiences knowing that you're a company they can trust.
Scott explains how the future of public relations is highly dependent on trust signals. In a post-truth world, where fake news is rampant and trust in traditional media is at an all-time low, it's more important than ever for brands to build trust with their audiences. The author then goes on to highlight several ways that brands can build trust. One effective tactic is to be transparent about business practices, by sharing information about how products are made, where they come from, and what goes into them. Being open and honest about these details will help consumers feel more confident in your brand.
The book also touches on how in today’s economy, where advertising is more about building an emotional connection than selling a product, the future of PR rests on trust signals. I personally loved how the author kept insisting that the most important thing for brands to remember is that trust is built over time; it cannot be bought or faked. It is true, indeed, because long-term authenticity, transparency, and credibility are what lead businesses to earn the trust of their consumers.
I highly recommend this book to every business owner, entrepreneur, PR strategist, and overall business enthusiast. This book is a very much-needed resource in this ever-changing economy!

I’ve not had much experience with PR or marketing but as I’ve been working to grow my own onlines businesses over the last couple of years as I prepare to leave my current field, PR and marketing have become much more prevalent in my life and it has been confusing without having a background in this field! I’ve been unsure that I even understood anything about marketing or PR until I read this book. Scott Baradell lays out clearly what PR really is, how it relates to marketing, and how to approach it and build trust so that it makes perfect sense even to those with no PR or marketing background. He understands how to grow brands which everyone from big corporations to small businesses need to do to build trust in their brand and their companies. Trust means everything when it comes to your business. He also understands that with modern technology, modern shopping habits, and modern belief systems especially surrounding trust, companies and businesses must approach PR and marketing in all new modern ways and think about it in new ways. If you are involved in any sort of business you need this book!

His writing is phenomenal and his casual tone makes you feel like you are sitting and talking with a trusted friend. This really makes the book such an enjoyable read. It flew by and I felt like I couldn’t put it down. Baradell provides outstanding resources at the back of the book so readers know exactly what he has learned and what his information is based on. It is a great way to build trust in his readers as he teaches them to build trust in their brands. Whether you have been working in PR and marketing for years or you are just getting started in the industry, this is a book you need in your arsenal. Clear explanations, actionable tips, and a whole new understanding of the industry as a whole is what Baradell brings to the table.

A colleague recommended this book to me, and I’m glad they did! I took the time to read it instead of putting it on my list of have-to-read. In this book, Scott reminds both PR and non-PR employees of the importance of Public Relations. A term of which the meaning kind of dissolved due to investment and responsibility replacement towards marketing.

The book starts with defining PR, its importance and how it differs from marketing. One of the most important aspects of PR is building trust, according to Scott. He makes excellent points on building trust as a company, and especially as a public relations professional. His arguments and ideas perfectly fit the modern world and are therefore a great addition to the basic understanding of PR. He shares personal stories and anecdotes that engage you in his book and make you reflect on your own experience as a professional, but also as a consumer.

The book goes in-depth into bottlenecks companies face when it comes to building their brand and equity. Questions such as “What makes a company deemed as trustworthy by customers and stakeholders?” and “What are strategies that can leverage trust?” are discussed and answered in a practical way, backed up by factual research.

I recommend this book to anyone that is currently employed in some position of sales, marketing, and of course PR. The examples and real-life cases that are presented make it accessible to employees of all professional levels. You can utilise his practical guidance to define a new strategy for the company you work at, or perhaps your own start-up.

Props to Baradell for developing a timely book that can be easily employed. I will make sure to recommend it to the next colleague!

I’ve never purchased anything without doing extensive research on the product and the company, I also look for the ratings and reviews. If I can’t find a good review that relates to me then I’m not buying it. I realize that a lot of people will have the same mentally when it comes to purchasing stuff from my business and that’s why it’s important for me to build trust.

Knowing who your customers are and what they want can save you a lot of money.  The book also highlights the benefits of having customers who trust your brand and you do that by making connections and using third party validations.

It gives excellent tips on how to build trust in your brand by using trust signals. It stresses the importance of knowing what are trust signals and identifying them. The book talks about the importance of a good website and how to make your website visitor feel at home by using trust signals. It lists the top twenty Inbound Trust Signals some of which includes, Media Coverage, Sponsored Content, Social Media Accounts and Google Business Profile.

Overall, this is a fantastic book. It’s packed with lots of helpful information. I love that the author, Scott Baradell has experience in Public Relations.  It's comforting to find someone who knows what they are talking about and can offer solid advice.I'm very grateful to him for taking the time to put this information out and his genuineness to help others.

As a layperson in this field there was a lot of content in this book I enjoyed learning about. The author does a nice job of explaining concepts so reads like myself can understand and follow along.
There were distractions however that had nothing to do with the substance of his message. Changing of font and font size based on topic, and lists within lists got a little confusing at times.
Overall however I enjoyed reading this book.

This book is well-written, and contains a slurry of relevant information about PR- it’s very interesting to read and learn about this side of marketing. There are plenty of subheadings within each chapter so that you can break-up your read and learning into chunks, so don’t worry about being overwhelmed with information. It’s a great book if you want to learn about something new!

“Trust Signals: Brand Building in a Post-Truth World” by Scott Baradell is a deeply thought out resource that seeks to enlighten and equip business owners and marketers with unique skills and knowledge, that will see them adopt a fine-tuned professional mindset which is essential for successful business branding, growth, and development.

In an evolving and highly competitive business scope where demand for new and unique approaches continues to rise, the author submits that the continued strive by many entrepreneurs to build credible brands can be eased by adequate exposure to practical and modern public relations concepts. It is clear as one flips through the pages of this engaging volume that reliance on publicity strategies such as print media is of little or no effect at all today on the portfolios of both new and existing industries because firms are yet to evolve with the world in identifying key areas of development and as a result, their client’s reputations and productivity have continued to stagger.

From the featured dialogue with Baradell’s friend, David, one will quickly feel the need for companies to look beyond ordinary PR methods as far as remaining relevant and trustworthy is concerned. The thought-provoking talk between the two also features Baradell’s revolutionary secret and idea in Modern Public Relations, which has been backed up by his prowess and vast experience in the field as commendably exhibited from the first to the last page of the text. He has meticulously delved into popular business beliefs and systems and, from that, wistfully detailed a cardinal concept that forms the backbone of Trust Signals. This brilliant revelation is bound to leave a huge positive impact on readers while making them fully understand what works and what doesn’t in today’s business world.

“Trust Signals: Brand Building in a Post-Truth World” is overall a five-star game-changer that will significantly assist its readers to achieve business goals and image easily. This book can be incorporated into business trainings and workshops, and can be a great eye opener for individuals who are unsure of how to integrate Public Relations into their marketing mix, as well as how to stand out in a world that is full of fake news and deception. This is a rare publication that carries clear explanations and actionable tips and which from the very onset will impact rare knowledge and wisdom to its audience.

"Brands need to be trusted in the marketplace, or they won’t be able to grow."

I think this is a book that everyone who has a business or is planning to have one should read.
Sometimes we ask ourselves several questions, how should we capture the customer's attention, how to make them see that the brand and the product that we’ll offer them is worth it, how to make them trust in our product, how to provide a quality service so that our customers return. What strategies should we use to build and grow our business? This book is just what I needed, the author is an expert on the subject, the information is full of PR strategies, many examples, learning how the PR system works, learning to differentiate between public relations and marketing, tips, tactics and valuable tools that can lead your brand or business to success.

I'm excited to put all this information into practice in my own business.

In Trust Signals, Scott Baradell outlines a comprehensive and thorough guide for any business or marketing professional looking to imbue their practices with what Baradell views as the defining factor for success – trust.

Baradell is the CEO and founder of Idea Grove, a leading solutions-focussed PR firm that runs on the Grow With TRUST methodology (Third Party Validation, Reputation Management, User Experience, Search Presence, and Thought Leadership) that has helped a wide range of clients across the tech sphere deliver clear and innovative messaging for their clients.

His life’s work so far has been distilled into Trust Signals, which takes a chronological perspective on the founding stages of Public Relations as a professional science and the routes it has taken from ‘founding fathers’ Ivy Lee’s journalistic approach, versus Edward Bernays’ more scientific methodology.

This crossroads of Lee’s fact-based informative messaging compared to Bernays’ ‘engineering consent’ tactics is pinpointed by Baradell as a defining juncture in the trajectory of the industry from the first half of the twentieth century up until the present day.

This is an industry that has of course seen many twists and turns, from the traditional print media operations to the introductions of radio and television and more recently the algorithm-driven arena of social media.

This course has seen the overall number of newsroom employees decline by 26% in the 12 years between 2008-2020, the significance of which (as Baradell points out) means ‘fewer journalists are around to cover stories – which in turn means PR professionals have to work harder, and spend more time than ever, to get their attention.’

Trust Signals serves as a field guide for anybody looking to navigate this increasingly complex world of modern-day communications and marketing. Breaking down such an expansive field into easily digestible and clearly distinct chapters, Scott Baradell uses compelling case studies, personal insights, and well-known everyday stories to provide an illuminating guide on how to make your business trusted and respected.

Whether you’re an established CEO or dreaming of starting your first business, Trust Signals will help give you an edge in developing your brand into a well-known and well-trusted entity. With tips ranging from SEO optimization to client conversion and reputation management, it can form the groundwork for developing your own professional PR and Marketing strategies.

This was one hell of a read. I will not spoil anything, but just know from the outset that this book takes you from morning eggs to King John’s wax seals to Google’s search algorithm, and then some, all while presenting eye-opening insights and facts in an easy and digestible manner. That’s the gist of it; here are some of the specifics as to why I loved – and why I highly encourage you to get your hands on – this book:

1) The Author:
Scott’s been doing this for many years, and it shows. He knows what business professionals, from the beginners to the veterans and to everyone in between, are lacking and what they need to read. The book approaches trust with theory, background, and science, but that is all tied up into a cohesive paradigm of viewing trust through Scott’s blueprints and frameworks, and it takes an expert to do so.

2) Practicality:
You’ve undoubtedly come across a plethora of books that talk about building reputation with customers, branding yourself or your business, making connections, and leading your business to success. What do most of them have in common? They are not actionable. At best, they can be useful for top-level management to set long-term strategies for their organization… but not this book. This book is all about hands-on practicality: third-party validation, online customer review sites, and trust-centered website design, to name a few.

3) Truthful
Some people may read “post-truth world” in the title and think that’s a bleak way of seeing things. I agree, but you know what else? That’s the truth because that’s world we live in… And Baradell does not shy away from that. He talks about how multiple mainstream media outlets continue to lose trust (and how you can avoid the same fate), debunks some common branding myths (having trouble with influencers? You’re not the only one; this book tells you why), and discusses branding and marketing ethics in a way that anyone whose been in business for more than a couple of weeks will find refreshing.

In conclusion, the information in this book is clear and easy to understand, so anyone can benefit from it. Whether you are new to business or have been in it for years, there is something in this book for everyone. If you are looking for a way to improve your business, then this book is definitely worth checking out.

Seriously interesting and different book on PR. I punctuated shows the difference between PR and marketing where PR wins ibn the course of time and long term. I like the quote "Brands must recognize that in a world without gatekeepers influence is a continuum." This is a good one describing that a customer feedback is a PR already as well as brand response to it and business environment challenges. There are good tips on building trust via digital means (website, SEO and other touch points of communication with customers). The focus of the book is building trust with customers and it provides many practical insights and tips on how this can be done. Simple as it is, being a customer we buy from brands we know and trust.
