A bucket of emotions

This author gives you a bucket of emotions. Up then down and thankfully up again. Below are a few of my favorite lines.
You can be shy but still give it your all

When you told me that you were toxic, I saw promise

Call me bitter, but I don't care Nothing in life is really fair

Love is fragile like a bouquet of flowers Believe it or not, both have superpowers Stunning when together, Ordinary when apart The right intentions are the best ways to start With time and patience, both become highly desired But please don’t forget that consistency is required They bring happiness and a breath of fresh air No matter the damage, nothing is beyond repair

Kaitlan C Farrior's "Like I Don't Exist" is a revelation—an urban poetry masterpiece that pulses with raw emotion, electrifying energy, and unfiltered truths. As a black reader, this collection spoke directly to my soul in ways I've rarely encountered in literature.

Farrior's words aren't just ink on pages; they're a symphony of experiences, a chorus of answers to questions I've whispered in the silence of my thoughts. Each poem is a journey—a courageous unveiling of the complexities of black existence, the highs and lows, the laughter and tears, the beauty and pain intricately woven into our lives.

What sets this book apart is its unapologetic honesty. Farrior fearlessly delves into topics often brushed under society's rug, illuminating them with a blazing authenticity that resonates deeply. From identity struggles to societal expectations, from love to heartache, these poems are a mirror reflecting the multifaceted realities of being black in a world that often fails to understand.

The beauty of Farrior's craft lies not only in the words themselves but in the rhythm, the cadence that dances off the pages, inviting readers to sway to the pulse of the experiences laid bare. It's a celebration of culture, resilience, and the power of reclaiming one's narrative.

"Like I Don't Exist" is more than a book; it's a sanctuary, a space where black voices are amplified, cherished, and understood. It's a reminder of our strength, our history, and our collective journey toward empowerment.

As a new voice in the literary world, Kaitlan C Farrior has created a gem that's not just for black people but for anyone willing to listen, learn, and embrace the beauty of diverse narratives. This book is a love letter to the soul, a beacon of hope, and a testament to the transformative power of poetry.

"Like I Don't Exist" is a must-read that leaves an indelible mark, reminding us that our stories matter, our voices resonate, and our existence is a powerful statement worth celebrating.

3.5 Stars. I took my time with this one. There were a lot of deep thoughts and heavy statements. But I had trouble focusing. With that said, that doesn't make it a bad thing. I just have ADD. By the time I finished it so much had happened in my daily life and other books had been read within the duration I couldn't honesty answer if I really liked the book. But I can say that I like the author, I like what she has to say and how she says it. I will be reading more. Her words are reflective. This was a book I read little by little while sitting outside and enjoying a cup of coffee and reflection.

Depth and Heart on Display

Poetry helps us feel more human, more connected to humanity, and thus, to ourselves. Like other poets, this author shares glimpses of their own humanity - from pain to loss to anger to love and many things in between - in an effort to make their reader feel seen. I'd recommend this book to others who are navigating loss, broken heart, or the many things in life that can make us feel alone. The authors words will make you feel like you are human and not alone.

Passionate intense and highly emotional poetry

Poetry is that little window into someone mind. It’s one of the few places where the rules of grammar can be thrown out the window. I will say that the poems in this book were heavy and each one carried a lot of emotion. You can feel the hurt that the author felt either during that time or reflecting. I’d recommend this to a select group of friend that may find comfort in how others process there own hurt or the ones that love all types of poetry.

A beautiful poetry book, as every poetry book often is there's multiple poems I found so relatable.

I love the poem The Shadow Author as it can feel like our life has a set story we're following along living what someone else had planned for us and not what we desire to live through and experience in any way.

It is well set out and each poem is often set out in verse talking about a range of subjects such as, toxic relationships, lost love, grief and how it feels like the world has fallen apart around you how it altered that world around you forever too.

bold and beautiful

If you’re looking for poetry that is emotional intimate, this little book is definitely for you. Farrior’s writing delves into self-reflection and relationships. Furthermore if your looking for poetry that employs a wide range of stylistic choices, this is definitely the book for you. While short by word count, this is a densely packed book. We’ll worth the price and time to read.

Inspiring poetry

Such a strong-willed woman. Her words are encouraging, vulnerable, inspiring, and motivational. I love how she opens herself to her journey of being a woman…ups and downs. I can relate to many of her poems. With her words, I do not feel alone. Her words give me a kinship that not many poems have given me. Wonderful poems. Thank you for sharing.

This s author speaks from the heart. I could feel the pain, the confusion, and the frustration in some of her work. Some of my favorites were Good surprise, the blind man, lessons learned.

raw and powerful

I wasn’t sure about the intro but the poems themselves are heart wrenching and made me pause. I think that’s the power of poetry—the pause

A powerful journey

Some real amazing pieces of poetry in here that resonate. Some are better than others but I really felt like I was taken on a journey and enjoyed every minute.
