Legendary Black Veil Brides' founder and frontman Andy Biersack curated his favorite Edgar Allan Poe tales, presented here in their original language with supplemental materials. Dive back into classics like The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven , The Oval Portrait , and The Mask of the Red Death with accompanying original artwork and a foreword from Andy himself. This compact, small but mighty, Poe collection is made to be a staple on your shelf.
The name Poe brings to mind images of murderers and madmen, premature burials, and mysterious women who return from the dead. His works have been in print since 1827 and include such literary classics as The Tell-Tale Heart, The Raven, and The Fall of the House of Usher. This versatile writer’s oeuvre includes short stories, poetry, a novel, a textbook, a book of scientific theory, and hundreds of essays and book reviews. He is widely acknowledged as the inventor of the modern detective story and an innovator in the science fiction genre, but he made his living as America’s first great literary critic and theoretician. Poe’s reputation today rests primarily on his tales of terror as well as on his haunting lyric poetry.
Just as the bizarre characters in Poe’s stories have captured the public imagination so too has Poe himself. He is seen as a morbid, mysterious figure lurking in the shadows of moonlit cemeteries or crumbling castles. This is the Poe of legend. But much of what we know about Poe is wrong, the product of a biography written by one of his enemies in an attempt to defame the author’s name.
The real Poe was born to traveling actors in Boston on January 19, 1809. Edgar was the second of three children. His other brother William Henry Leonard Poe would also become a poet before his early death, and Poe’s sister Rosalie Poe would grow up to teach penmanship at a Richmond girls’ school. Within three years of Poe’s birth both of his parents had died, and he was taken in by the wealthy tobacco merchant John Allan and his wife Frances Valentine Allan in Richmond, Virginia while Poe’s siblings went to live with other families. Mr. Allan would rear Poe to be a businessman and a Virginia gentleman, but Poe had dreams of being a writer in emulation of his childhood hero the British poet Lord Byron. Early poetic verses found written in a young Poe’s handwriting on the backs of Allan’s ledger sheets reveal how little interest Poe had in the tobacco business.
How do you make Poe even more enjoyable!?!? You add Andy Biersack!! His voice pairs perfectly with these macabre tales and I literally couldn't devour this little collection quick enough!!
This is a small collection of some of Edgar Allan Poe's poems and shirt stories. This was a must buy when I realised it included all of my favourites including The Raven, The Pit And The Pendulum and The Tell-Tale Heart. What adds to the experience is that you can listen to Black Veil Bride's lead singer Andy Biersack narrate the collection.
Having listened to Andy's autobiography last year and throughly enjoying it, I decided to download the audio as well as purchasing the book. Andy did a great job with the narration and the small book is a great addition to my collection.
This would be a great gift for any Edgar Allan Poe beginners or for anyone who has felt too overwhelmed by bigger collections of his works. It would also make a great gift for any Andy Biersack fans, especially with the vinyl audiobook that is available to listen to. It is also available on audible.
I would honestly listen to Andy Biersack read the phone book so his narration was perfect. I just don't think I'm as big of a Poe fan as I thought I was.
This is a great collection of Edgar Allan Poe's more popular works and out of this entire collection I knew two: The Tell-Tale Heart and Annabel Lee. While I love both of these works, I wasn't that captivated by the other works in this collection.
Overall the collection was great and the narration was perfect (but I am biased as this man is literally my favorite musician and I love his voice) and if you are a big Poe fan then I would recommend.
This collection contains the poems: A Dream Within A Dream, Annabel Lee, Lenore, Spirits of the Dead, The Haunted Place, The Raven, and A Campaign Song. It contains the stories: The Mask of the Red Death, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Oval Portrait, The Pit and the Pendulum, and The Tell-Tale Heart.
I think this was a good collection of stories and poems of Poe’s work. I enjoyed revisiting these stories, even if I did just read a few of these stories in October. Biersack’s narration was ok. I felt he didn't bring much horror and emotion to the scenes as I have heard from other narrators of Poe’s work. I still enjoyed the collection overall though.
🖤📖 Andy Black reading Poe? Inject it straight into my gothic little soul. 🦇🕯️ His velvet voice makes The Raven swoon-worthy, Usher extra haunted, and The Tell-Tale Heart downright deliciously creepy 🫀💀.
Whether you’re here for the literature, the spooky vibes, or just to have Andy’s velvet voice haunt your dreams (🙋♀️), this is a must-listen. Perfect for autumn nights, rainy days, or pretending you live in a candlelit Victorian manor. 🌙🍂🦇
5/5 beating hearts ❤️🔥. Poe would approve. Andy would smirk. And I? I’ll be listening again every year. 💀🖤📖
As a life long fan of Edgar Allan Poe, and a long time fan of BVB and Andy Biersack, this is a wonderful addition to my collection.(I already have The complete works of Edgar Allan Poe, but I couldn't resist this.) I purchased the hardback book and the vinyl, and thoroughly enjoyed them both. This is a great starting point into the works of Edgar Allan Poe, especially if you don't know where to start.
Make no mistake: I’ve always loved Poe and I adore Andy….HOWEVER, I was getting lost in the narration because Andy wasn’t reading the words like a normal sentence? He paused in the wrong places and the inflections were off to the point that it felt like I was listening to another language.
The poems are spectacular (obviously) and Andy’s voice fits the vibe perfectly (duh) but the narration itself wasn’t my thing (understandably since he isn’t usually an audiobook narrator)
I've always enjoyed Edgar Allan Poe. I also love Andy Biersack and his music career *both bvb and solo*(I still need to read the comics that came out from Ghost of Ohio and Phantom of Tomorrow). So I had to get this. I listened to it through audible since Andy Biersack narrated it. This is a collection of Poe's works that Andy likes.
The stories were fine(3 stars) it was missing my favorite Poe story the cask of amontillado. The reason I read this book is because Andy narrates it and I ALWAYS need more of Andy’s voice in my life. He just has a soothing voice. I just love Andy sooo much! That is all
This popped up on my Instagram feed as an ad because my targeted adds are on point. I love Edgar Allen Poe, and I'm obsessed with Andy Beirsack so there was really no going wrong here. I would listen to Andy narrate textbooks.
This was a great rendition of Poe's work! I read the audiobook version with Andy Biersack narration, and he seriously needs to do more audiobooks!! His voice is so soothing I like to fall asleep to it sometimes
I mean, Poe is always one of my favorites, and you add to that Andy Biersack reading the audiobook? What more could a girl want?! This was a great collection with some classic Poe, and I loved every second of it!
