Free-spirited Holly Tremaine, a former set designer for the biggest studios in Hollywood, has finally managed to escape the long days and self-indulgent lifestyles of the rich and famous for the easy beach life. However, leaving was not her choice, and those sandy beaches and bright, sunny skies will not chase away the haunted night that forced her to run from her beloved career.
Now, as a marketing assistant for a boutique advertising firm in Laguna Beach, CA, Holly spends her days daydreaming, stumbling over her past, and taking the occasional phone call for the company.
When a major client calls the firm to request a meeting, Holly answers. His unpleasant demeanor and her frayed nerves lead to an explosive phone call that will forever change their lives. Holly needs to heal, and uber-rich Ford Savage, CEO of Savage Sportswear, may be the medicine she has been craving.
However, Ford is a broken man who needs healing of his own. Reeling from a fateful past, Ford is determined to freeze his heart in the snow-swept mountains of Wyoming—and leave it there. His self-imposed punishment, complete isolation from society, will lead to his redemption. But, how can one man find salvation if there’s no one to forgive him?
Ford needs someone. He just does not know it yet. After their volatile call, Holly’s employer sends her to his home to work on a campaign. She discovers her assumptions about his personality are correct, but not for the reasons she thought. Stubborn and independent, Holly and Ford clash over lifestyles, values, coffee, and societal biases.
Will they heal and find love again? Or will their differences shatter them beyond repair?
I received this book for free via a Goodreads Giveaway.
While I did enjoy reading this book, there were just some things that I didn't like.
To start off, I liked the writing style of the book. I feel like the book was very easy to read and I think the author is a good writer. One thing I didn't like is the cover. The cover honestly didn't match the entire book. I thought this would be more Christmas-like; however, Christmas was only the last few pages of the book. I completely understand that the plot wouldn't allow for this, but I think the cover should have also matched the main part of the book.
While I understand that this was a short story, I thought the things happened fairly quickly. The romance was kind of at a standstill and I don't feel like I was able to watch the characters really fall in love because the book jumped 5 weeks without mentioning anything about them. I feel like a little bit of insight into them spending time together would have been great.
I did enjoy the plot of this book. I liked how Holly went to Ford's house to work on his marketing campaign and they both kind of brought each other out of their traumas. Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it wasn't really a favorite for me. I think I was just expecting something different with a little more romance (or at least build-up to the romance).
This story will definitely keep you intrigued, you will absolutely fall in love with all the characters, I-really love the complexity of Ford, his darkness, his sarcasm, the way Holly doesn’t let him get away with it. You will not be able to stop reading it until the last page, I highly recommended it. I received and ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Rie Anders has done it again! This is another must read! The way she writes wraps you up in the story and you feel like the characters in the story are your friends. I love the story of Ford and Holly because it’s a story of love, hope and healing. Get your copy, you won’t regret it!!
This was a fun and frothy quick read. The two main characters, Holly and Ford, are likeable characters who have each suffered hardship and tragedy. Holly has been forced to leave the job she loves and ends up working for a friend in advertising. Ford has retreated to his mountain home to hide away from people and their expectations. They meet when Holly is sent to work on a project for Ford. I found Holly and Ford to be characters that I enjoyed. Holly met Ford's gruff and off-putting demeanor with fiery comments and humor. Their verbal sparring was such fun to read - the book flew by so quickly! I also enjoyed the settings of the book, both the mountain town and a later adventure (I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise). However, the "adventure" part of the book was difficult to swallow as one character, who stated repeatedly that any type of physical activity was not enjoyed, ends up being qualified to participate in an extreme adventure after one month of training. That just would not happen. Otherwise, I found this book to be entertaining and would read another in the series. I received the book through the Goodreads Giveaways program in exchange for my honest review.
GOODREADS WINNER!! Had a couple of problems with this one. Holly is running from her past. She is in the middle of a sexual harassment lawsuit with a director she worked with. As a woman, I had to put the brakes on automatically thinking - I wonder what SHE did or how did SHE provoke the man involved. Why? Because 4 pages later, Holly is kissing and taking off her top with a man she just met THAT WEEK! Really? Holly is there to complete an assignment for a company that gave her a second chance after she was forced to leave her last job. Not to hook-up with a potential employer. Fortunately, the rest of the story greatly improves - so not a total loss. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (Goodreads Winner). Thank you!
A great book! In my opinion the best Rie Anders has written so far! A wonderful feel good book where you meet main characters who are the exact opposite of each other but help each through their struggles. Felt the characters had some real depth to them and you could feel the pain they were experiencing. Love the storyline and you could be part of the journey the characters were taking. Story is a good short novel to read in a couple of hours or stretch it out and read for a couple of days. You can walk away from it and feel good about everything and human nature.
Naughty & Nice by Rie Anders is a wonderful feel good book. Ms. Anders has written a wonderful story which drew me right in, making me forget everything else and did not let me go until I turned the last page. I did not want to put this book down. The book is very well written and the characters are well developed and likeable. Naughty & Nice will definitely keep you engaged and turning the pages. I loved this book it had me laughing and it had me crying it was the perfect book to sit and read in one sitting.
I loved this story. It was a wonderful romance, but also a very hopeful story. Both characters are dealing with very difficult events. The story was a great inspiration at how they found each other while finding ways to deal with their difficulties. I loved the characters. I was drawn in from the start and could hardly put the story down. I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Absolutely loved this book and didn't want it to end. This latest book does not disappoint and introduces us to a well defined, multi-dimensional cast of characters in real life situations. Love & loss. Sighs and smiles. Sweetness and snark. Friendship and family. This story has it all. If this is your first book by Rie Anders, it won't be your last. Check out Dear Santa, Define Good.
p.s. Received this as an advanced copy and voluntarily providing my honest view.
It was just an ok book. I was taken aback by the plot: “A pained woman who has a sexual harrasment case in CA was offered a job as a live-in employee by a handsome billionaire’. I find it ridiculous at first especially the protagonist’s selective memory of her abuse experience. This is also not a story set during Christmas but a story which ended during Christmas. The plot is also shaky and characterizations were not well established in the whole story.
Loved this book! I loved how Holly and Ford helped heal each other's pain. I also love that Holly got the chance to experience something new to her and that experience helped Ford's family as well. I couldn't put this book down. This book had me laughing out loud and at other times it had me in tears. I just didn't want it to end.
I received the book as part of the Goodreads giveaways. The book cover doesn’t fit the story. I really enjoyed the story and didn’t put it down until I finished. It was a easy read, really enjoyed the story, and loved the characters in the book. For a quick, easy read I highly recommend the book. I would read other books by this author.
This was a really sweet romance, at first I had my doubts about them getting together, i thought maybe it would be someone else. I am very happy how it turns out and it was a great book. I strongly recommend.
The story of Holly and Ford was very heart warming. Two broke people that come together and find not only friendship but also love. Once you start you won't put it down. I could have kept reading about these to for forever.
I won't an e-copy of Naughty & Nice in a Goodreads giveaway. This story is inspiring and heartfelt. A sweet story where the characters help heal each other from past trauma, and challenge each other to be their best selves. This quick read is perfect for the holidays!
This is only my second Anders book and now I'm wondering why have I not being reading her all along!
Anders creates great characters. I loved both Holly and Ford. I'm a sucker for a well-written hurt man. I love seeing them come out of their dark place with the help of a loving woman. Holly is hurt too so they're saving each other. Their interactions are tense initially and touching eventually. I just really loved their story and their journey.
I know nothing about extreme sports but Anders writes those parts so well that I never went "really?" like so often in books. Everything was intense, believable and, to me, exhausting.
