Bookstore Ghost may be afraid of everything, but she’s not a coward.
She’s not.
In fact, she prefers to weigh cowardice on giving in to that fear. That if she let it control her, if she gave in to the pervasive terror and huddled away until eternity has eaten away her entire self, that if she doomed herself to only react in whatever base instincts still exist in her ghost-self, then she would be a coward.
It would be easy, too.
But when one of her worst nightmares comes true, and her own precious place of existence is sold, her world is turned upside down.
And now she has a choice. She can hide. She can plot revenge. She can test this strange man, see what he really wants to do with her store. And maybe unfold the many layers of the mystery that is her own existence.
I was really hoping for most of the mysteries surrounding Bookstore Ghost to be solved… but it never really happened. Didn’t find out how she was murdered or who murdered her, didn’t find out her name- or even just coming up with a name to call her other than Bookstore Ghost. The ending seemed extremely rushed and… just… ended. I feel like there was so much potential and just extending that ending a little would’ve helped.
But all that being said… I really liked Theo and his relationship towards Bookstore Ghost. I’m so glad her character grew the way she did with Theo’s help/presence. And the addition of his little sister was so sweet. It really was a cute story with likable characters! Just fell a little flat at the end and needed to answer more questions we as readers have about Bookstore Ghost.
I liked this story a lot. I do wish it was longer in general; I wanted to see BG and Theo's relationship build a little slower over more time. Like others have said, the ending felt very rushed, and I would have loved to have found answers to BG's murder and her name. For some reason, I thought maybe Theo's dad would be involved in the murder, or maybe even Mr. Lacasse. It also would've been great to see Heather and Theo work together a little more to get memories out of BG and figure out what happened to her. I understand that BG's acceptance of herself is closure, but selfishly, I wanted to know everything. One aspect of Winters' books that I admire is the 'rules' of being a ghost, like disappearing without meaning to, interacting with electricity, etc. Overall, cozy and cute story. :-)
I know many readers were excited to see that Bookstore Ghost was getting her own book. The author created and developed a wonderful character in the previous books whose story we all wanted to know. She was definitely my favourite character. The book started off strong, but never developed. We got NO ANSWERS as to who Bookstore Ghost was, how she died, or who killed her. It was very disappointing. The ending felt rushed and incomplete. There were also several inconsistencies and continuity errors, as well as typos, that should have been caught in the editing and beta reading stages. I'd be willing to read and re-rate if the author added a proper ending, because the plot did have a lot of potential; it just felt abandoned.
This book is written in the perspective of Bookstore Ghost, the ghost we met originally in the first book of this series. It’s a cute story about her expanding her horizons and actually being able to communicate with people. She even falls in love, how cute.
We don’t get any answers about her life, but BG seems to be fine with it, so I guess I have to be too. Theo is a sensitive and took BG’s advice to heart, which was really sweet. Most people would be terrified by a young woman covered in blood, but he gets over it pretty quickly.
The book. All of the books are so good. I loved this story the only thing I wish I’d gotten was the answer to who Bookstore Ghost is. I thought for a split second when a bad guy walked into the store we might figure it out. But…it didn’t come. Otherwise the book is great! I loved all the details about the store and the sibling bond. I also how at one point Theo calls her BG. That is my dogs name and made me smile.
The story dragged out in the middle, never found out her name of bookstore ghost or who murdered her, story to me was centered around Theo and his relationship with his sister and father . very confused,I thought the book was going to be about the ghost and what caused her to be murdered.
I wasn't sure about how Alessa would present this, but she did an exceptionally good job. It just ended too quick for me. Maybe include them in the next book?
This story was well written, but the other 3 in the series are far more entertaining. I was really disappointed that we didn’t have closure regarding Bookstore Ghost’s death.
Was great until it ended out the blue, we don't even know her bloody name! Wtf we know nothing and I mean nothing about her or how she died or who she was! Everyone's just happy to call her bookstore ghost...wtf
