Government Gangsters: The Deep State, the Truth, and the Battle for Our Democracy

Rate this book
The highest levels of government have been infiltrated by an anti-democratic Deep State that can be defeated by refocusing our national security mission and relentlessly defending the truth.

A sinister cabal of corrupt law enforcement personnel, intelligence agents, and military officials at the highest levels of government plotted to overthrow a president. Even after they failed, they continue to secretly pull the levers of power without any accountability to the American people. This isn’t the synopsis of a fictional spy thriller. This is what is actually happening in the United States government.

In Government Gangsters , Kash Patel—a former top official in the White House, the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, and the Department of Justice—pulls back the curtain on the Deep State, revealing the major players and tactics within the permanent government bureaucracy, which has spent decades stripping power away from the American people and their elected leaders. Based on his firsthand knowledge, Patel reveals how we can defeat the Deep State, reassert self-government, and restore our democracy.

And now they want him to head the FBI? FML!!

I have once again decided to embark on a mission to read a number of books on subjects that will be of great importance to the upcoming 2024 US Presidential Election. This was a great success as I prepared for 2020, with an outcome at the polls (and antics by both candidates up to Inauguration Day) that only a fiction writer might have come up with at the time! Many of these will focus on actors and events intricately involved in the US political system over the last few years, in hopes that I can understand them better and, perhaps, educate others with the power to cast a ballot. I am, as always, open to serious recommendations from anyone who has a book I might like to include in the process.

This is Book #13 in my 2024 US Election Preparation Challenge.

As I seek to get a well-rounded view of the political landscape, I accepted this book as a recommendation. Kash Patel presents this book to reveal the struggles to govern during the Trump Administration by a sinister entity known as the Deep State. What it ends up being is yet another means of complaining about the shortcomings of the Administration and an attempt to stir the pot. Less eager to provide solid examples than speaking of redacted documents, Patel whinges for chapters and tries to make this an anti-Democrat book while being patted on the head by former president Trump. Sycophantic and only somewhat intriguing in its delivery, Patel does what he was asked by Trump and little else. Here’s a blurb from the Liar in Chief: “A brilliant roadmap highlighting every corrupt actor, to ultimately return our agencies and departments to work for the American People…” Pardon me as I insert an eye roll here.

As Kash Patel explains in the opening pages of this book, there is apparently “a sinister cabal of corrupt law enforcement personnel, intelligence agents, and military officials at the highest levels of government plotted to overthrow a president.” While this would be a great dust jacket blurb for a piece of fiction, Patel would have the reader believe it is true. Alas, his fantastic ability to drum up a scary system that sits in the shadows of Washington only got worse the more I read. He feels as though this left-wing Deep State seeks to block effective government and governing, while pointing out ways to keep the country from moving forward. As Patel would have the reader believe, this was a system that could not be stopped, but the election of Donald Trump saved the day. The dramatic, vomit-inducing views only build on that.

The book seeks to make things out as though this Deep State was responsible for lies about Russia, tying the country to the events, while the country was on a good path. There were battles to neutralise Super Trump, which failed and only added gasoline to their fire. Patel explains how he had to work within the Trump Administration and fight to quell the swamp, better known as the Deep State. He tossed out a brief summary of his projects and successes working within the Administration, before wingeing that Trump lost in 2020 and he was out of a job. He denials of any insurrection by painting Trump as the peace seeking pushed this book over the edge for me.

If there is anything redeeming in the book, it is that Patel sought to offer some ideas to better government and the agencies in which he worked during the one term. These are well-paced and serve as interesting ideas, though he can expect that they would work both ways, against the left and right in equal measure. His attacks on the left diluted their effectiveness repeatedly, which is disappointing for any reader.

Patel sought to drum up support and stir the pot. He did that, but only served to make himself look the fool. The chapters are dripping with sycophantic views and leave the reader to roll their eyes as each page turn adds to the mess. He bemoans the need for redaction to finish his book, but explains that Trump had the power to declassify anything he wanted. So, why not declassify the documents needed to show everything Patel needed? It does not add up and Patel dodges this. The attentive reader will see that there are many other disconnects, proving that this was meant only to be a book to complain, creating a
fictional Deep State to create an enemy. The only evil in America was the recklessness of Trump and his leading an insurrection to cover his complaints about losing. While not a waste of time, perhaps useful as a coaster for a drink as I read something better written and less dramatic.

Kudos, Mr. Patel, for something highly entertaining that helped me get some stiffness out of my neck as I shook my head from side to side.

I listened to several interviews of Kash explaining and reading from a few pages of this book. Names of actual people from all parties whom he includes in the list of perps! This is a nonpartisan book. More Republican politicians than Democrats are listed!
I have per-ordered several to share with others as well.

I enjoyed reading this book from someone inside our government who experienced all of the lies and sabotage as it was happening. It is rather disgusting that there are so many people within the government that use their position to leverage partisan issues rather than to put the country first. I cannot understand the mindset and petty partisanship of someone who would to this. Patel provides the list of these people in his book, a great road map for the next administration to ensure these people are fired from their government jobs. The corruption was in the following agencies: DOJ, FBI, NSC and Intel, DOD. He also discussed J6 and what transpired in the days before the riots, as well as on J6.

THIS IS A MUST READ! The Democrats have got away with so much propaganda. The January 6th is a big lie. There was no way Trump tried a coup. The coup is just a farse. By Law there is a 2 step approval process for the national guard. The President must approve it and the State Mayor must approve it. This is to prevent the Federal government from taking over the state with military and vs versa. Trumps Admin approached them 4 seperate times before Jan 4th asking to send the National Guard to the Capitol. Each time Mayor Bowser declined the National Guard. Eventually Mayor Bowser agreed for a small amount of National Guards to be there for traffic control and only that. Trump authorized the National Guard to go to the Capitol on January 6th to keep the peace because he brings big crowds at his rally. However, the Guards did not come to the capital because Bowser, Schumer and Nancy Pelosi refused the national guard.

Book of the year!

I consider this to be the book of the year or the decade. Every American should read this to gain a better understanding of our recent history. It can help a person understand the last decade and it lays out an excellent plan to help fix the country.

In reading this book, I was reminded often of a phrase describing a person, to the effect that the person was “often wrong; never unsure.” Kash is completely sure of his conclusions even when he has no real basis for understanding his subject. 72 days as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense while traveling, transitioning Administrations, does not lend itself to deep understanding of the Department of Defense. Don’t try telling Kash that. That’s just one example.
Kash draws sweeping conclusions and assigns motives. Decisions are made across the board for career advancement or monetary gain. In some cases, by some people, this may be true for some politicians. However, Kash seemed interested only in hit jobs on particular people and the FBI as a whole, all the while painting himself as the all-knowing, virtuous hero.
I didn’t know much about his experience before I read the book, only that he is a darling of Fox News and Trump MAGA World. Now, as the potential Director of the FBI under Trump, he scares me.

This is THE book the Deep State tried its darnedest to squash. In fact, government bureaucrats from 9 separate agencies and departments tried so hard to stop Kash Pramod Patel from ever publishing “Government Gangsters”, that Patel finally filed a federal lawsuit against the Department of Defense in order to force them to release his manuscript. Washington DC’s ruling elites do not want you to read facts about their corruption and crimes. They are counting on Americans to be complacent and content with lies spoon fed by mainstream media and morally compromised politicians. To their great chagrin, in his short book, Kash unveils the truth behind the Russia Gate Hoax, the slow-walked Mueller Investigation, the Impeachment Hoax, the false J6 “insurrection” narrative, the made-up domestic terrorism conspiracy, Biden’s disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal, and more. Lest you doubt his information, Mr. Patel’s resume is impressive and credentialed. He has served as a public defender in Miami, a federal prosecutor at the National Security Department inside the Department of Justice, an investigative staffer in the US House of Representatives, a senior White House counterterrorism official, a principal deputy to the acting director of national intelligence, and a chief of staff for the Department of Defense. This man not only knows where all these government gangsters’ skeletons are hidden, he has the legal prowess to document their corruption. Patel proves there have been anti-democratic and sordid plots to take down the President since 2015 when Trump first came down the golden elevator to announce his candidacy. In fact, he traces Deep State shenanigans from the Benghazi scandal through the bogus raid on Mar-a-Lago. His book reads like a page-turning spy novel, but with the documentation to prove hard facts that completely refute mainstream media misinformation. The audio version is good, but you will also want to buy the book as a reference because it provides declassified copies of important documents: 1) The Nunes Memo that exposed the DNC’s Russia Hoax; 2) four documents that debunk the DNC’s J6 insurrection myth including the Official Department of Defense January 6th Timeline, the Official U.S. Capitol Police January 6th Timeline, the Letter from Mayor Muriel Bowser Declining National Guard Assistance, and the Biden Administration Inspector General Report on January 6th; and lastly 3) a comprehensive list of names and titles of members of the Executive Branch Deep State—those that execute the Mob’s dirty work. Kash Patel not only exposes these Deep State Government Gangsters, he offers solutions on how to defeat them, proposes overhauls to regain our captured institutions, and provides ideas on reasserting self-government in order to preserve our democratic Republic of the United States of America.

"The law is crystal clear about the deployment of the military within the United States. It is never allowed unless two very specific conditions are met. First, the president has to authorize the use of the National Guard. Second, state and local authorities must make the request for National Guard assistance. Nobody wants the president to have unilateral authority to deploy military troops within America as he pleases. That's a recipe for tyranny." - page 182

Wow, well said Kash. But…oh, wait — that was written when Joe Biden was president, and said in the context of Jan 6. Of course, now that Donald Trump is in charge, and people are protesting his policies in Los Angeles, let the (rubber) bullets fly, "state and local authorities" be damned!

I occasionally like to read what the other side is saying (Bill Barr, Kayleigh McEnany), and try to keep a relatively open mind in an Oliver Sacks, "Anthropologist on Mars" kinda way. But man, there is no way I could read more than a few chunks of this batshit nonsense, because this is, y'know, Kash Patel we're talking about, the guy who became our country's highest law enforcement official by writing children's books about "King Donald," and then appointed Dan Bongino as his #2…so buckle up, because we are in for a rough coupla years, my friends.

I can state that he writes reasonably well, and can form complete sentences. But his ideas are truly coming from a different planet from the one in which I live, and one which I really hope we never have to revisit again.

History. Will. Judge.

Oh, I'll bet "readers also enjoyed" those books — I've never seen ANY books get such consistently high GR scores as these pro-Trump, anti-Biden/Harris/Obama/climate change/science/etc. screeds. I just...don't get it :(

Wherever you sit on the political party spectrum, reading the views of both sides is vital for any goal of meeting in the middle. If your primary news source is mainstream media, read this book as a dare to yourself to read another perspective.

To this reader, the writing comes across as purposefully “easy-to-read”. With a background in law and politics, the author could have chosen to write in a more intimidating style. I suspect this was a choice to make things easier to understand, which perhaps the more “well-read” will disregard.

There is inflammatory, retaliatory description in places that wasn’t necessary. However, if one has been maligned in the mainstream press for years, without an outlet to defend yourself and actually be heard, it is understandable that writing your views would include some frustration and anger. The information would be equally interesting and perhaps more powerful in its focus if the derogatory adjectives were omitted.

For this reader, it was fascinating to read the other side of the Russia hoax, the plans for withdrawing from Afghanistan, and the suggestions that align with our Constitutional foundation. There was information that I’d never heard in all the news reporting of the actual events and aftermaths.

At the very least, it leaves one realizing that we need to seek out the truth from many sources, that “news” should be regarded as something to delve beyond for a true understanding. At best, it shows that career politicians are not acting on our behalf, or with a goal to have peaceful relationships with other countries.

Waste of time! This topic is extremely important. What Kash Patel is talking about I have no doubt happens, BUT, this man is wasting our time in this book.
He is paid by Trump (he has the decency of admitting it) and he is now unveiling some shocking information on government corruption. By miracle, only the Democrats are corrupt and Trump remains clean as morning dew, the anti system president that is surrounded by his enemies…. Good God!!

It is interesting to put this book in contrast with Luke Harding’s Collusion, which treats and documents the Russian links of Trump. Kash Patel will say this is a hoax. Just like Climate change, would say his master…

Great overview, insightful perspectives

Those who have closely followed this sad chapter in American history over the last decade will find precious few new nuggets in Kash Patel’s hopeful journal. But those who have not seen the Deep State iceberg for what it is — a harbinger of a dystopian nation — should read closely and understand that the American people have become THE ENEMY to a Washington D.C.-headquartered cabal of Gangsters who put Al Capone and Osama bin Laden to shame.

Book doesn’t have structure and reads like a right-wing Reddit comment section. His claimed “facts” are not backed up and a significant amount of his “sources” are secondary reporting of alleged things, rather than direct primary sourcing. He also goes through significant levels of hypocrisy as he complains about actions on the left, while himself being a lapdog of the right. He calls the military industrial complex a left wing radicalization, despite the left consistently advocating against military spending. He seems too political to understand that many career civil servants and military personnel work in a system and understand that system well enough to keep it operating and away from the whims of politicians because the politicians only care about themselves and their dear leaders, instead of what’s actually best for the country.

Great read!

When I started this book, I was pleasantly surprised at what an easy read it is! Kash doesn’t complicate matters. He’s concise and to the point, laying out the details of events clearly so it makes perfect sense. Anyone who isn’t sure of what to make of all that’s been going on for the last 6 years needs to read this book. Finally it’s all in one place in chronological - emphasis on logical - order. Don’t wait. Get this book!

The rot runs deeper than anyone wanted to admit. Kash Patel pulls back the curtain and names names—laying out, in explicit, unapologetic detail, exactly how unelected bureaucrats, career swamp creatures, and self-anointed elites weaponized the U.S. government against its own citizens. This isn't speculation. It’s receipts.

Patel walks step-by-step through how the so-called “public servants” at the FBI, DOJ, CIA, and every other alphabet agency quietly built a parallel government—one not accountable to voters but to themselves. Intelligence agencies colluded with the media, sabotaged elected officials, and ran cover for political allies while targeting anyone who dared challenge their grip on power. And the worst part? They did it in the shadows, fully convinced no one would notice.

The stories in this book make it clear—power was abused, laws were bent, and the Constitution was treated like an inconvenience rather than the foundation of this country.

Thankfully, those days are numbered.

It's hard not to be enthusiastic—and honestly relieved—that Kash Patel has been nominated to lead the FBI. Someone who knows exactly how the game was rigged, and who’s not afraid to burn the whole rotten structure down if that’s what it takes to clean house. He’s the right man to restore respect, integrity, and transparency to an agency that squandered all three long ago.

Even better, Dan Bongino has been appointed as Deputy Director. A former Secret Service agent and one of the sharpest voices in the fight against this nonsense, he’s exactly the kind of pitbull needed in that position. No tolerance for games, no patience for corruption. A leadership team that actually understands duty and accountability.

This book isn’t comfortable. It’s not polite. It’s a scalpel to the heart of the deep state, and long overdue.

As is common with me, listening to people speak will inspire an interest in reading a book they’ve written. That is the case with this book. Listening to him speak on a podcast and simply hearing the title of his book had me hooked.

I was hoping for a book detailing the dirty deeds of the bad actors within the Deep State. Instead, it is a recap of his experiences during his time with the government that illustrated the general corruption and duplicity he witnessed. While his perspective is appreciated and well-chronicled, it does not offer anything new to those already familiar with his perspectives. This is what I find frustrating about so many of political-themed books … different people telling the same story.

There IS a list of deep-state “gangsters” at the very end, the entire book only covers the involvement of a select few throughout the book. Would have appreciated a deep-dive into each of these individuals and what they’ve done to earn the “gangster” accolade.

Regardless, this is a decent insider perspective of the disgusting abuse within our nation’s most delicate and powerful government agencies. Patel had a front row seat and doesn’t hold any punches in calling out the bad actors.

Kash Patel wants you to believe he was the guy—a power player, a mastermind, the one calling the shots. But crack open anyone else’s memoir (especially the so-called “deep state villains” he rails against), and you’ll find barely a footnote on him. As Hamilton put it, he claims he was “in the room where it happened,” but the actual heavyweights seem to remember things differently—and Patel’s presence not at all. This book is an attempt to rewrite history, a glorified grievance fest than a serious exposé. It is almost cult-like devotion to MAGA, wrapped in a never-ending victim complex. Despite all his bragging, don’t forget he’s a barely passable beer league hockey player and all his brags about his legal prowess seem to obscure the fact he graduated to Pace Law School — ranked 136 out of 196 law schools and No. 43 (tie) out of 68 in Part-time Law. by U.S. News and World Report. This book reads like the emotional vomiting of someone light on the truth and heavy on the outrage.

Kash Patel held a series of positions during the Trump administration, and he provides insight to what exactly transpired during that time. This book elucidates several events, some of which I had limited knowledge. I had no idea that he was involved in rooting out a lot of the corrupt actors and their actions in his various roles. He doesn't mince words, which is so refreshing at the present time. He even provides a list of some of the corrupt deep state cabinet members who thwarted President Trump during his tenure. Not surprisingly, former Attorney General Bill Barr is on that list. I always thought he was a weasel along with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who also made the list. The list is long, and the task of cleaning up the corruption seems insurmountable, but Mr. Patel remains optimistic that it can be accomplished one day. Hats off to Mr. Patel for his service and for the commendable book he has written. I wish him luck in the future.

“New” to politics? Just figuring out…

… “something is seriously not right in this country…”

You NEED this book. Take your time to *absorb* what is laid out here. Little in it is new. It does cover more recent *examples* of what you may be seeing, experiencing. But, sadly, none of it is “new.”

It MUST be said: this book is NOT about Donald Trump. It is about events and circumstances that HAPPENED while Donald Trump was in the White House. However, “Government Gangsters” is much more about Kash Patel’s LEARNING CURVE in Washington DC & the innermost workings of YOUR GOVERNMENT.

We did not “get here” starting in 2020, or 2016, or 2012, or 2008, or 2004, or 2000, or… you get my point. THIS has been infiltrating and invading our Constitutional Republic for no less than 60 YEARS.

So many complain, “does not matter who I vote for President or which party wins. We just keep getting different flavors of the same stuff as things slowly get worse and worse. Does not matter who gets elected as our Senator or Representative, nothing changes.”

You are not just getting cynical and that is not just your imagination. That, is by design. Further, the problem actually is not because of the President or Congress… well, it *is*, just not in the way most assume.

The problem is far more complex than who sits in the White House or Capitol Building seats. Some may truly mean the things they have promised. Those people just have no idea how Washington DC works… or, more accurately, does not work.

“Government Gangsters” does a stellar job laying out the facts that the real problems are not our Executive Branch nor Legislative Branch and in many ways not our Judicial Branch. The problems, plural, are far deeper.

Every incoming Administration is met with a BUREAUCRATIC ADMINISTRATIVE STATE via unelected agencies who are supported by the Media Complex.

Every 2 yrs every House Representative has to win/lose their seat. Every 2 yrs one third of the Senate will win/lose their seat. Every 4yrs a President will win/lose their Office.

But the Administrative State & their accomplices in the various UNELECTED AGENCIES and MEDIA COHORTS remain basically the same.

No where in the Constitution have these entities been give authority nor power to decide… anything. But, they do. They ignore the sitting President unless he agrees with THEIR agenda. They ignore Congress unless they are pushing THEIR agenda and narrative.

Kash Patel, as one relatively new to this political jungle, learned all this the HARD way. Fortunately for him, and many of those with whom he worked, they had a President who was the consummate outsider as well. Someone who, as a businessman - in construction - had already learned how to effectively maneuver through bureaucratic red tape, slow-walking documents, and otherwise throwing a wrench in the gears of getting a job done on time and under budget. A President who had observed the monster from the outside, taken notes, knew the “players,” and was determined to do in the political world what he had accomplished in the business world: turn failures into wins by effectively using the rules to aid in the objective, never give up, never quit, push forward against every headwind.

Kash Patel describes EXACTLY what kinds of obstacles and road blocks that Administrative State, more commonly called “The Deep State” these days, could and would mount to protect *THEIR* AGENDA AND *THEIR* NARRATIVE.

For me, much of this was not new. I had learned about different aspects of this monster over the years, beginning with the Watergate debacle which caused me to notice that what the Constitution told me to expect from my Government was NOT what I was getting. And Richard Nixon was NOT the main problem. Over the years I have become suspicious he may in fact have mostly gotten in their way more than any other “crime.”

I should note that I did not LIKE Donald Trump. Was aggravated he was running in 2015, horrified he was the only “alternative” to someone I trusted even less, but was won over as I saw he was DOING what he SAID he would do. At least, he was making a greater effort than any I had ever seen. I became amazed as I observed him accomplish many goals despite virtually everyone being against him on every level every day.

“Government Gangsters” is NOT a book about Donald Trump. It IS a documentary tome of that which the DJT Administration and staff fought against AT EVERY TURN.

More importantly, this book EXPOSES the Machiavellian machinations and corruption and alternative agenda that has become “our democracy.”

It will be an eye opener for many about HOW WA DC ACTUALLY RUNS and WHY things never seem to “get better.” You will learn little about Donald Trump. You will learn a LOT about why YOUR LIFE gets worse with every election… and steps that CAN be taken to CHANGE *YOUR* government.

More than just “another four year election” will be required but it CAN be changed so that YOU live a better, freer, more prosperous life… as well as future generations.

Should be required reading for all high school and college students.
Clearly lays out the truth (with facts and footnotes) about the Russia collusion hoax (totally engineered), Jan 6th, Maralago Raid, etc.
The book confirmed what many have suspected for years to be the truth.

This book doesn't just lay out the facts but it provides SOLUTIONS to the many problems within
the Deep State (it defines that as well) and US Government.

HIGHLY recommend.
