Coastal Changes combines elements of adventure, suspense, and romance. The plot revolves around Casey Shaw, a character who decides to leave the crime-ridden and congested environment of West Palm Beach, Florida, in search of a new opportunity. He stumbles upon an online auction listing for a run-down marina with an abandoned inn on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Casey thinks that this investment could be his ticket out of Florida, and he enlists the help of his longtime friend, Michael "Murph" Murphy.
The biggest catch is that this seemingly lucrative deal comes with a dangerous complication – a resident drug smuggler who is determined to keep his control of the marina at any cost, even murder. As Casey and Michael navigate the treacherous waters of this deal, the main question becomes whether they can stay alive long enough to close it.
Amidst the backdrop of this thrilling adventure, Casey's burgeoning romance with Sally, a native of the Eastern Shore, adds an extra layer of complexity to the story. Will Casey be able to balance his pursuit of the deal with his growing feelings for Sally?
Coastal Changes is the first installment in the Coastal Beginnings Series, which serves as a prequel to the bestselling Coastal Adventure Series by Don Rich, and is based on the book Chesapeake Cool, which is no longer published.
Hi! Glad you took the time to read about me, though my Coastal Adventure Series is really much more interesting. But hey, click my "Follow" button and see what kind of trouble I get into. It beats reading the newspaper! (I try to stay out of those these days...)
I was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, and escaped in Y2K, 40 years and 1.1 million new neighbors later. I hate crowds, and by then the lines at the boat ramps on the weekends were hell... Anyway, in my early twenties I crewed on sportfishing boats. I started flying when I was old enough to see over the instrument panel and got my license at 16. I've logged time in over two dozen types of aircraft. I got my start as a real estate investor in my latter 20's. I've owned retail stores and was even a small-town mayor once. Why? I'm still asking myself that question now, several decades later.
When I moved to Virginia, I fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore (VA & MD), as well as the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and that's why my books are set in this area. I write books because it's fun. I create characters that I enjoy 'spending time with' because I write every day.
You're still here? If I haven't put you to sleep or chased you away by now, please feel free to click the button next to the "Follow" one and send me a "Friend" request. Like Belushi said about grabbing a beer in the opening scene of Animal House: "Don't cost nuthin'!"
If you missed this series the first time around, you are in luck, as the entire 4 book series is being released again, starting with Coastal Changes. The good news is, if you read the Coastal series, the characters are already friends. Bimini is back too! Florida real estate developer Casey and his friend Murph form a partnership when they win a rigged online auction to purchase an old inn up in ESVA. The fun part for them is that the brother of the seller thinks it should be his. He uses it for his illegal activities and he is a violent thug. Casey wastes no time meeting Sally and Murph comes north with Dawn, so they have a really good start to their new company. Casey and Murph know how to deal with thugs, but it almost cost Casey his life. And Bim's too.
Don Rich never fails to provide exciting, what is going to happen next, mystery adventure in my opinion. This is the opening book to Coastal Beginnings Series with most of the action on the Eastern Shore of Virginia with a start in Florida. Rich has good knowledge of Eastern Shore. Being familiar with the area it is fun for me reading how he uses the area for stories. Fast Paced with chuckles and wondering what comes next Don Rich always finishes with a flair. Recommended Five Star
A great read, I couldn’t put it down. The story was different from other other similar books I have read, it that I could imagine that it was factual. One of the reasons I loved it, was my life was somewhat the same. Became a developer and builder, divorced, years later met the lady of my dreams and fell instantly in love, had helicopters and enjoyed the flying, was also into boats. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Great story with very believable characters. Only downside is a personal thing in which there is way too much philosophy involved. The romance and bromance are borderline overwhelming but the repeated philosophy of life statements were overdose. Again, personal thing. Don't know if it's stoicism or getting curmudgeonly.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time, immersed in the life and lifestyle, meeting all the characters ,and am totally looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is a new author to me and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. There were many twists and turns that it kept me reading. Then the times where things were going to good I was waiting for bad guy to jump out.
First time reading this author and loved his writing style. His characters were interesting and situations compelling. Can't wait to start his next book.
Don Rich has a vivid and colorful imagination. He tells a story that is gripping and unpredictable. His characters reflect a far-ranging appeal with a great deal of humor. It's hard to put the book down.
