Welcome to Shadow Ridge, where LONGMIRE meets JERICHO.
From USA Today Best-selling author Lisa Harris comes an epic new series where the survival of Shadow Ridge depends on learning how to fight crime all over again.
In the prequel to the series, The Last Day, Chase said good-bye to Hope and left Shadow Ridge for an overnight prisoner transport to San Angelo. . .the day before the grid went down. For those rooting for Hope McQuaid and Chase Becket to find each other again, well, the wait is almost over. Except the circumstances aren’t what either of them could have ever imagined.
In today’s world, law enforcement agencies across the country rely on forensic tools, DNA testing, and crime labs. But what if that technology was suddenly no longer available? No one in the small, west Texas town of Shadow Ridge knows what took down the power grid, or when it’s going to be back up, but everyone knows exactly where they were the moment it went down. And now, with no electricity, no internet, and no modern technology, the men and women responsible for keeping the town safe are going to have to learn how to fight crime all over again.
**Start with the prequel, The Last Day, then Survival, book one in the Fallout series. Each novel contains a standalone mystery, but there are overarching stories that tie together the entire series.

So good!!! I love these characters and the whole concept of this series. After a year of an extremely difficult new normal, living off the grid, not knowing what happened to Chase Beckett, the man she loves, Dr. Hope McQuaid is kidnapped right in front of her family and friends. She is needed for her medical skills, and the kidnappers do not mess around, they kill those who disobey orders. Shattered Book #5 in the Fallout series by Author Lisa Harris, keeps the reader on the edge of their seat wondering how the heroes can possibly get the upper hand with the global group who took down the grid and created this chaos. I cannot wait for the final book in the series "Aftermath".
An excellent series, and one I highly recommend. I recommend Shattered (and all of the Fallout series) for lovers of romantic suspense with an interesting premise. It's a thought provoking series, and especially dangerous living amidst the challenges of being off the grid without electricity, gas, communications, grocery stores, modern police department technology etc.
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own!
This conclusion to the grid going down was fast paced, engaging and suspenseful.
I enjoyed how the book started one year back and then continued back through to the current situation. The reconciliation between Hope and Chase was also realistic – as a reader you could feel the struggles to forgive and understand but also the love between them.
This book included the same suspense, thrill, and twists as the rest of the series, but it also included a lot more emotions, reflecting the emotional stress and impact on the characters after the grid going down.
I am glad there will be a novella still coming because I am not yet done with the McQuaid family.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*
What a great series! Highly recommended for fans of Terri Blackstock's Restoration Series.
In book five the focus is on Hope (Dr. McQuaid) who has had to improvise and challenge herself in the new reality without electricity and other modern conveniences. Due to her unique and coveted skills, she's pulled in to help a band of villains with their medical needs.
I loved how this series highlighted what it would be like to supply food, provide medical needs, solve crimes, etc. in an unfamiliar and less than ideal environment.
Lisa Harris finished up her Fallout series with a bang! Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have the electro magnetic grid to go out? How would we survive? What would we do? This book and the others in the series gives us a glimpse of what it would be like through the eyes of the characters. With lots of action and nail biting from me, I was very satisfied with the ending. I enjoyed the entire series. This book tied it all up together very nicely. I highly recommend for dystopian/suspense/romance readers. *I was given a copy of the book by the author and this is my honest opinion.
It has now been over a year since the grid went down. People are struggling to survive; the situation is desperate. Chase Becket, the man Hope McQuaid loves and wants to marry, hasn't been heard from since he left to transport a prisoner just before catastrophe struck. At her brother's wedding, she is abducted because of her medical skills. To her surprise, she ends up captive in a well-outfitted bunker and discovers Chase is there, apparently not as a captive, but again nothing is as it seems. He is actually undercover, but now the danger has escalated greatly. Can Chase get Hope to trust him and keep his real purpose from being discovered? Will those searching for her find her before it is too late? Is an escape even possible in this mad turn of events?
This is a highly intense continuation of the fallout series and certainly a thought-provoking story. I received an ARC; the opinions expressed are strictly my own.
This is a fast ride on a bullet train as the series concludes with the story of Chase and Hope. Introduced in the first book, with Chase transporting a prisoner and Hope remaining behind to provide medical care in the little town of Shadow Ridge, these two characters needed to have a conclusion to their tale and this book not only finishes the story but it also wraps everything in the entire series up in a neat bow. Very satisfying conclusion with some happy surprises along the way as well as some extremely unexpected twists that added to my enjoyment of the story. The characters were well-developed and so realistic that I wanted to comfort Hope as she had a melt down from all of the pressure she has been under since the grid went down. As I read, I kept thinking to myself what a good series this would make, with its lessons on forgiveness and redemption and its story that is heart-wrenching and soul-touching as so many lives have to change to adapt so quickly to a new reality without any electricity or modern conveniences like cars and technology. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. It is scary at the same time as hopeful with an underlying theme that God is always in control no matter what is happening in your world. A clean read with some thought provoking scenes that made me wonder how I would survive under similar circumstances. The series is concluded but the message that it teaches will long stay with me and is a series that I know that I will re-visit in the future as it teaches the eternal lesson of gratitude, family and faith. I am loving this series. I rarely re-read books but I can see reading these again in the future. I have enjoyed them all but this was my favorite. I look forward to reading the next one to see how the series wraps up.
The Fallout saga continues with Jace and Morgan about to get married when gunmen burst into the church and kidnap Hope. Shocking events are in store for her as the kidnappers load her into a Jeep and head toward the mountains. She did not realize anyone still had gas since Shadow Ridge has been without gas for months. Actually, like everywhere else they know of, Shadow Ridge is out of a lot of things since the grid has been down for over a year. They have had to learn skills that were common in the Old West, but this is not the Old West. Their destination is even more shocking because the place has electricity and many more things lacking in the outside world. I enjoyed the suspense and action. The interesting thing about these stories is that people are working together and even communicating. With no electricity, they have family meals without telephone interruptions, or someone rushing to finish so they can go watch their favorite TV show. And no one is sitting around playing games on their devices. But, don’t get the wrong idea. There are troubles galore and no one is safe going out alone at night as they were before. The streets are dark and dangerous, even in this small town in a remote part of Texas. I love the faith and hope that many of them share as the church gets back to doing what churches should be doing, and that is ministering to the needs of people. I finished the story, wondering if this could ever really happen in our nation. Would we know what to do to survive? I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
This final instalment in the Fallout series starts where it all began with Chase Beckett and Hope McQuaid. They'd been separated for a year by the impact of the grid going down. For all both knew, the other might be dead.
Harris, as usual, keeps the story moving as little-by-little we get to understand who is behind bringing the grid down and sending America back into the dark ages. We're kept on our toes with twists and more twists as Chase and Hope play out their respective roles of IT expert and doctor to both solve the mystery and help others.
I was happily turning the pages to discover the next twist and discover how Harris was going to pull it all together in this concluding instalment. It's great fun.
This really can't be read as a standalone story as much of it wouldn't make sense. The series has such an interesting premise that it's fascinating to read and I'd encourage everyone to start with the free prequel, The Last Day.
When the grid went down a year ago, Chase Beckett was escorting a prisoner to San Angelo. Meanwhile, Dr. Hope McQuaid was doing surgery to remove a bullet from her father. Only the backup generators enabled her to finish the surgery & save his life. Hope wonders if Chase will ever return, or if he is even still alive. Her dreams of a life with him are shattered, but for her, life goes on and she must cope with all manner of medical emergencies with no supplies. Read book 5 of the Fallout Series to find out how the Realm figures into the outcome. One thing, I know it's s a typo but it bugs me. Foster, the bad guy, is revealed in a setup by Chase to be a "trader". It's TRAITOR!
This book is another great addition to the Fallout Series. Quick paced with plenty of action this book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Hope has had to keep it together for the past year since the grid went down. Everyone depends on her for something and with Chase, the guy she loves, gone she’s been carrying the burden alone. Chase never wanted to be away from Hope for so long but when asked to help take down the Realm, the group responsible for crashing the grid, he couldn’t turn down the assignment. When Hope is kidnapped to care for an injured man Chase isn’t sure he can keep her safe. Will they get away with their lives? I love and recommend this book.
Survival is book #5 in the Fallout series by Lisa Harris, and I really enjoyed it. Hope McQuaid, the only doctor in Shadow Ridge, Texas hasn’t seen Chase Beckett since the grid went down. Chase never expected to see Hope in the place where he’s been living, but she’s there. Now they have to work together to help put an end to the criminal mind behind the grid going down. This book takes the reader through a variety of feelings including hope and fear. The faith element is woven through the story perfectly. A touch of romance rounds out this well balanced and well written story. I highly recommend Shattered! I received an ARC of this book with no requirement for a good review. The opinions stated here are mine.
You know when you have this delicious box of chocolates and you savor them one by one . . . And then you have the last one! You don't want to eat it but you also don't want to miss the awesomeness! Well, that is exactly how I felt about the last book in the series! At first, I read in drips and drabs because I didn't want the book to end. BUT it was so good I couldn't keep the stingy reading up! Finally, we read Hope and Chase's story! What a fight they had on their hands to determine whether the Realm is going to win or if a new normal is going to be established? Do we take ahold of the blessings and love in front of us, or do we stay stuck in past hurts? I just adored this series, and it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to the people of Shadow Ridge!
Shattered was a very fitting ending to the Fallout series by Lisa Harris. Readers of this series have had lots of questions like who took down the grid and whatever happened to Chase to name a few. I am so happy to say that all of your questions will be answered by the end of this book. I have liked Hope McQuaid throughout the series so I was glad we finally got her story. This entire series has had a different feel than other books I have read by Lisa Harris because of the dystopian nature of the stories, but there is still plenty of adrenaline-pumping action like we have always been able to count on from her.
Thank you to the author for a copy of this story. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I have enjoyed this series. The books can be read alone but they make more sense if read in order. Dr. Hope McQuaid and her family is preparing for the wedding of her brother Jace and his fiance, Morgan. Suddenly some men come in and kidnap her by gunpoint! What is going on? How do they have fuel and a car that runs? Most don't have fuel to run cars since the grid went down. Will she be able to escape from these men? Who will help her escape? Will she be able to figure out what is happening?
I received this kindle book free from the author. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review but I did enjoy this book and this series.
The last book in the series is one of my favorite couples so far. Chase and Hope have a great relationship but there's a lot to overcome. He's been trying to infiltrate the bad guys in a state-of-the-art bunker while she's been roughing it as a doctor without modern medicine or electricity. Life has looked very different to each of them in the meantime.
It felt very real and raw as I read through and the issues they face seem very logical for the off-grid world (no medicine, difficult travel, etc).
Looks like there will hopefully be an epilogue story called "Aftermath" and I am looking forward to seeing how the town comes back together and gets to the 21st century again.
The series began featuring Hope McQuaid and Chase Beckett. At the end of The Last Day, the Grid fails and Chase disappears. In Shattered, Hope and Chase are reunited. Shattered is action-packed and has a great cat and mouse scenario. Bullets fly, cars crash, and Chase and Hope race against the clock to survive. As a bonus readers get many excellent tips on how to survive should the Grid go down for an extended period of time. I’ve researched this and Harris is very accurate. The tension is high throughout and once you start reading, you’re not going to want to stop until you hit the last page.
All this time wondering where Chase was… I wasn’t expecting this at all!
This book, maybe more than the others, has a strong theme of today, this month, being what we have. It’s what Hope has learned over the past year+ but still struggles against.
Honestly I feel like Hope and her struggles needed more time to flesh out. The climax and resolution also seem slightly abrupt. Maybe we needed to see what was going on in Chase’s life all this time to help with that? I mean I like the book and all, don’t get me wrong. I just think it needed to be longer or something.
Chase Beckett did not want to be a spy, but that’s what he is. He has infiltrated The Realm, the multi-national group that took down America, Canada, and Mexico. He is working to undermine the group who took down the power grid. For over a year, no one has had electricity, cell phones, or any technology. Betrayal, Murdering, Stealing, and Trafficking is widespread. There isn’t enough law enforcement to combat all the crime. With the combination of Chase, the McQuaids and others, they are able to make a difference. This was intense. I read it in one day. Very ineresting.
Lisa Harris is now one of my new favorite authors. You have to read the whole series. You won’t be able to put them down. Suspenseful with great storyline and character development. She brings in the Christian’s struggles with adversity, and how we trust God in spite of “when bad things happen to good people “. You will love this and unhorse and this series!
This is another wonderful book in this series. Makes you appreciate what you have. Like my Kindle that I use to read my books on. It also a reminder to appreciate God's blessings, like beautiful sunrise or a night sky full of stars. Thank you, Lisa for this wonderful series.
Awesome conclusion to this great series. I have read other books where an EMP took out everything, but this series is the best of that kind of book I have read. I have been eagerly waiting this book, and it was well worth the wait
It's a good story about a family going through survival after some event leads to a blackout. This is book 5 of 6 books (then a prequal was written). One for each family member. It was an easy listen.
