Just About Sundown

Rate this book
The October sun sinks slowly over the horizon. Shadows become longer, darker. A crisp breeze blows dead leaves under streetlights just beginning to glow. A single dog barks in the distance. Night is coming.
What horrors await us in the darkness? Step into a world of our creation where a painting can turn to madness, a forest can be another dimension, a dream home can become a nightmare, and a roadside diner might be the last place you want to stop. Come with us to a place where a mad scientist can make a new discovery, a shortcut can lead to your doom, a lottery ticket comes with its own brand of luck, and birthdays aren't always happy.
You should get someplace safe...it's just about sundown.

Fantastic collection from multiple authors. I can't even pick a favorite. They all brought a different writing style to the table. All very original. Some recurring themes (probably on purpose for this collection). I really hope there is a follow up collection. This was my featured read for August 2023! I have some of McConkey's other works in my cart ready to go next.

Absolutely engrossing collection of stories

I love anthologies, and this collection does not disappoint. It opens with poetry, rich with all the imagery and feeling that will set the tone of the collection. Poetry is so underutilized and it was refreshing to see it included. The stories are will written and just unsettling enough to keep me turning the page. A must read for horror lovers.

Great Halloween reading!

Lots of creepiness with enough mystery and irony to keep you reading.
Short stories that pack a lot of punch.
