To save my little boy, I must find out the truth. But am I already too late?
I never thought I could be this lucky : to live in a stunning home with my gorgeous husband Brett , and our sweet little son Clark . We even have a maid to help around the house, and my devoted in-laws live just down the road. My peaceful, luxurious lifestyle is a far cry from the hardship I grew up with. But all too soon, it all comes crashing down around me when I find out that my dear husband Brett is dying.
My heart is broken beyond repair, and I would do anything to take Brett’s pain away. And towards the end when he is too weak to move, he asks me to do just that. But I know I can’t bring myself to take a life. So, when I wake up to find his body, and the police accuse me of murder, there’s a horrible question that cuts through my grief. Who killed my husband? And why are they framing me?
With my face splashed across the news, I take Clark and run for my life so nobody can take my son away. Hiding out in a cabin in the forest, I think perhaps we will be safe here. But soon I realise that someone is watching us, lurking in the shadows. And one night, they leave a newspaper clipping on my doorstep, my face circled in red. I think it’s someone I know, and I’m beginning to realise that Clark is in terrible danger. Because the more I think about the night Brett died, the more I realise that the people I trusted are not who I thought they were…
The only way I can keep my son safe is to find out what really happened. But with my memories blurred and dream-like, how can I uncover the truth when I can’t even trust myself? And when Clark goes missing, am I already too late to save my little boy?
An utterly heart-pounding and twisty psychological thriller that will keep you up all night. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl , Behind Closed Doors and The Girl on the Train.

Wow! Another hit by L. G. Davis! The author can always be counted on for a psychological thriller at its finest. I was hooked from the first chapter of this exciting book.
Synopsis: Meghan and her young son Clark are on the run after she is accused of murdering her husband Brett. Brett and Meghan had been married for five years when Brett died. Someone is trying to frame her for the murder, but who is it? Will Meghan be able to save her son Clark from the killer?
This is my second book by Davis. Both novels have been mind-bending adventures that convinced me to read everything the author publishes. Once I started The Missing Widow, I could not put it down. The plot twists are shocking. I look forward to reading more books by this super talented author.
The Missing Widow by L. G. Davis is available on October 18th. 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture, for sharing this outstanding book with me. It is a wonderful must-read!
My son Clark and I live in a beautiful cabin outside a rural town, somewhere nobody will find us. I could not have found a more perfect place to start over, shielded by the trees and far away from prying eyes. But when I find a newspaper clipping on my porch, it drives fear into my bones. Widow wanted for murder screams the headline. And that's my face in the picture, circled with a red marker. I look into the forest, but I can't see anyone. How did they find me? And what do they want?
This is a gritty and twisted psychological thriller. The pace is fast all the way through making this a quick and easy book to read. Filled with suspense and twists, I didn't want to put the book down. The way book is written makes you feel you're watching everything unfold. The characters are well rounded and believable. I don't want to say too much about this book as I don't want to spoil it for potential readers. I wasn't expecting that explosive ending though.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #LGDavis for my ARC of #TheMissingWidow in exchange for an honest review.
I am becoming a huge fan of L.G. Davis! She is so highly recommended, I couldn't pass this one up! The plot grips you at the first chapter and doesn't let go until the last page, which seems to be the selling point of this author! I loved the characters, Davis creates people that you love and want the best for, or ones that make you angry! Such is her talent. I can't recommend this enough!
Spooks and Freights! Geez almighty was this intensely crazy & freakishly good! I mean I'm literally shocked with the absolute master of twins and turns Davis delivers in this! It's spine-tingling, mind warping & absolutely nail-biting with how one turn after another is like a smacked cold fish in your face. The ending was absolutely eye-popping and gasp worthy. I cannot believe how devious Davis is with her mind and writing and as always she never disappoints. A fast-paced, bone-chilling psychological thriller that will keep you up well into the night so you can get the answers. & that very, very end will leave you so shook, you could create a new dance! Absolutely genius.
Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Meghan & her young son, Ashton, are on the run because the police and her husband's parents believe she killed her husband, Brett. It's been nearly a year and they've become Zoe & Clark in a small town. But there seems to be a new interest in the case and Zoe is terrified because she honestly can't remember if she killed her husband. As if that's not bad enough feeling she's going crazy, someone is catching on to who she really is and feeling like she's being watched relentlessly. Little does know she realize going to prison is the least of her worries.
Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for this ARC. Release Date: October 18, 2022
Brett is sick and his wife wants him to recover. He is getting tired and he wants her to end his pain. His parents refuse to accept their son’s fate. When “Zoe” finds out Brett has passed, she is numb. His mother Nora blames her for Brett’s death. Zoe can barely grieve because of Nora’s blame and her resulting bitterness. More than that Zoe is plagued with lingering doubts about how Brett died. She takes her son and flees to a cabin in a small town. Is she wanted for the murder of Brett? Is that why she ran, and even changed her name and her son’s name?
With hazy memories of the night her husband died, and always looking over her shoulder, Zoe is jumpy. Very jumpy. Trusting anyone is a big deal to her and things often seem hopeless. While not surprised that this well written psychological thriller had more than a few twists and turns, I will definitely say the ones in this book by L. G. Davis really caught me by surprise.
The sense of danger Zoe faced followed her everywhere, and all she wanted was to be there for her son. This thrilling read started off with incredible suspense and ended with a nail-biting conclusion.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
L.G. Davis, you sure know how to get readers’ attention!
I felt like a frog in a pot of boiling water; I didn’t know I was hooked until I tried to put it down to make dinner and ….we ate later than usual!
The recipe for this thriller has all the right ingredients, told in the right order with lots of twists, and is gasp-worthy right to the very end. The use of present tense captured my attention and held it because I felt like I was part of the action. The inclusion of a taboo subject was risky but written so incredibly well, it was in my thoughts for days. What would I do in this same situation?
At the center of this novel is ‘loss of control’ and L.G. Davis has a tight reign on it, making it a brilliant, albeit a nail-biting and heart-pounding, read.
Another win for Davis! If you haven’t read any of this author’s books, what are you waiting for?
I was gifted this advance copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
Spell binding read, definitely clung on chapter after chapter to find out what would happen to Meghan and Clark. Fast paced, good character development!
I was given an ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Don't missing this new release by L.G. Davis on October 18!
If you like mystery, suspense, betrayal, and a heart breaking revelation and a crazy ending you will love this psychological thriller that will have you up into the wee hours of the morning trying to figure out two question.
Who the hell killed Brett and why did they frame Meghan?
If you take away anything from this review it is this:
"In less than a year, my husband Brett will be gone. He will leave me, and the world, forever."
This was a dramatic thriller. Poor Megan gets a whirlwind of blame when her husband passes away from cancer. She takes her son and flees. I was so frustrated on her behalf. I wanted to hit the other characters with their book.
This was a bit longer than it really needed to be and there were a couple loose ends. Overall though pretty good. Lots of family secrets And prepare to be frustrated throughout.
A packed out plot with an ending I didn’t see coming.
Wanted for the murder of her husband, Zoe is living in a cabin in the woods with her young son Clark. With so many questions surrounding her husband Brett’s death who was suffering with stomach cancer, her in-laws who hate her and the creepy guy who keeps staring at her outside her cabin, the book leaves you with anxiety worried for Zoe’s safety.
I loved the ending , the last few chapters hit you like bish bash bosh
Thrilling. Tense. Absolutely addictive. I was breathless turning the pages and yet didn't want it to end as it was such a good read. Completely transported me. Loved it.

Publication date 18th October 2022.
This is the second book I have read by this author. I have also read 'Liar Liar' which I would also highly recommend.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Anyone who loves Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train and Behind Closed Doors will be utterly gripped.' I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of L.G Davis and if this book is half as good as 'Liar Liar' it is guaranteed to be a page turner. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of 40 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in the fictional town of Willow Creek, Tennessee, USA 🇺🇸.
This book is written in first person perspective and main protagonist is Meghan Wilton. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that really set the scene and kept me on the edge of my seat. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly.
OMG!!! MIND ABSOLUTELY BLOWN!!!!
Love, LOVE, LOVED this absolute page turner!! This book is extremely fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. It was one of those true gems where if you had to put it down you had to race back as soon as you could to find out what was going to happen next. The plot is unique which is always a bonus after reading so many psychological thrillers. The storyline is absolutely ram packed with mystery, deceit, secrets, lies, romance, tension, suspense, death, friendship and OMG the twists just kept on coming again and again!!! Just when I thought everything that could happen had happened BOOM there was another shocker around the corner. Every time I kept telling myself one more chapter the one I was in ended at a point where there was no way I could stop reading so I absolutely devoured it in one sitting!! I WAS absolutely blown away and considering I read approximately 30 books a month that is certainly no easy feat so a HUGE congratulations on that Liz!!. I really could not recommend this book any more. It was based in a fictional town which sounded absolutely stunning and if it was real I would definitely love to visit Ruth's cottage, the Lemon Cafe and Ruth's Bakery!!!! I absolutely loved the absolutely mind blowing and cliffhanger ending which had my jaw dropping to the floor!! If you are looking for something unique, filled with suspense and that will blow your mind then this is definitely the book for you!!
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT READING THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEARED YOUR SCHEDULES AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT IT DOWN!!!
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read an excerpt of L.G Davis' absolutely gripping 'Liar, Liar' which is another mind blowing page turner and one I have read myself and would highly recommend!!
I wasn't just 100% invested in the storyline but also in the characters. The every one of the characters were well defined, realistic and strong. Unfortunately I am not going to be able to say much at all about them as I don't want to run the risk of giving anything away. I will however say that my heart completely went out to Meghan who didn't deserve anything that she went through. I felt so sorry on her but I did enjoy watching how her character fought every step of the way and did everything in her power to protect her son. I do love seeing kick @$$ females in books and Meghan was definitely one of the toughest. She just went through absolute hell and yet kept fighting tooth and nail and I enjoyed seeing her get stronger and her character develop throughout. I will also say that I was absolutely gutted about a certain character especially considering what they did for Meghan at the end. There were several characters u could not stand but then you can't love everyone especially in a psychological thriller otherwise it wouldn't be much fun would it!! . Needless to say they all worked perfectly together to make this page turner as amazing as it is!!!
A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to L.G Davis on what promises to be a massive best seller!!! I WAS absolutely shocked by so many explosive reveals!!! This is why your on my favourite author list Liz and here's to your next explosive success 🥂!!!
Overall an absolutely addictive, mind blowing page turner that will keep you up with a racing heart until you've finished!!!
Genres covered in this book include Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Literary Fiction, Thriller, Psychological Fiction, Suspense, Thriller, Women's Psychological Fiction, Domestic Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Domestic Thriller and Mystery amongst others.

So many highs and lows with this one. At times, I couldn't put it down and found myself entrenched....but the ending was a big let down. The introduction of many characters simply left me wondering what had happened to them and what their involvement was in the plot. Ironically, it was so good and so disappointing at the same time.
This is the second book I've read by L. G. Davis. Meet Meghan whose parents died in a car crash; she dropped out of the University of North Carolina and went to live with her gran. Meeting Brett was a turning point for her and they had a baby son - Ashton. Brett's family owns a chain of hotels - the Black Oyster Resort -based in New Haven. Meghan met Brett whilst working as a maid and the couple marry within six months. Ashton is now four and Brett has been diagnosed with stomach cancer. When Brett passes away Meghan finds herself with a need to go on the run with her son.
Certainly compelling and exciting, I was really invested in this explosive tale from the off. The tension ramps up as the tale progresses, headed towards a cat-and-mouse chase and there's a plot twist at the end. A great domestic drama-thriller and well worth a look.
This review was written voluntarily and my rating was in no way influenced by the fact that I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley.
Hmmm.. well parts of this book were good. Others seemed to go on too much. Not a fan of the very ending I think if it was left before that would have been better. Plus whatever happened to Ruth's brother so much about him, then nothing. Hope you enjoy it more than I did.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.
I am excited to be taking part in the #BooksOnTour #BlogTour for L.G. Davis' tense domestic thriller THE MISSING WIDOW.
"I thought we would be safe here. But I was wrong..."
Liz Davis stormed her way to my attention just a couple of months ago and since then I have read four tense and exciting thrillers penned by her. I love her ability to enthrall you with her prose, reeling you in and before you know it it's late, dinner is burnt and hubby is hungry. Well, maybe not the burnt dinner bit but you do tend to get caught up in the story and not want to put it down until the end. Unfortunately, real life has a habit of getting in the way as it did this time and took me far longer than usual to finish it. While I'm not sure it is quite as enthralling as the previous ones I've devoured, it is still a compelling and intriguing read with an explosive ending.
We meet Meghan, happily married to Brett of the Black Oyster Luxury Hotel empire created by his philanthropic father Cole Wilton. He is charming and wealthy and Meghan fell head over heels for him almost at once. Their whirlwind romance ended in their wedding six months later. But there is a fly in the ointment in that Brett's parents - Cole and Nora - refuse to accept Meghan and the relationship between the in laws is strained to say the least.
Five years and a beautiful son later, Meghan and Brett are enduring the worst possible battle. Brett has stomach cancer and refuses treatment, and without it he only has months to live. Meghan can't believe why he won't accept chemo but he is adamant. But he has a plan. And when the time comes, he asks her a favour she couldn't possibly fulfill: he wants her to help him die. But she can't; she won't.
Distressed at being faced with the dilemma of watching him suffer and helping him die, Meghan leaves the house in tears. She left Brett alive, though in obvious pain, but hours later when she returns he is dead. The syringe she drew up earlier but couldn't follow through, lays discarded on the floor...empty. Did Brett somehow muster enough strength to administer the fatal dose himself? Or did someone else come to his aid?
As soon as his death is discovered, his parents immediately turn and point the finger at her, adamant that she killed him for his money. And so begins the story of this widow on the run, taking Ashton with her to start a new life away from the one they knew before. She ends up in a small town called Willow Creek, complete with new identities - Zoe and Clark.
A year later, she may have a new life, but her past is never far away. She is constantly look over her shoulder and doing everything to keep her son safe. And then one day, her face is on the news alongside the allegations that she murdered her husband before fleeing with their son. All at once, Meghan/Zoe knows her days are numbered. But she knows she didn't kill Brett, did she? The night she ran to escape his pleas is a blur and she isn't sure of what she's guilty anymore. But one thing she does know that is to prove her innocence, Meghan/Zoe must find out the truth of what really happened...but in the process she uncovers the dark secrets that threaten to destroy everything she thought she knew. And she learns the horrible truth that people she trusted are not who she thought they were.
And there is someone very close to home that is coming for her...
THE MISSING WIDOW was certainly different from what I expected, which I thought was going to be the usual did-she-didn't-she plot judging by the premise. But it's so much more than that. Admittedly, it took me a while to get into it as I had a lot of personal stuff going on making concentration difficult, but I was pleased to discover it did pick up nearer the end and it was a real race to uncover the truth that turned into a cat and mouse game which ramped up the tension.
There were a few niggles I found though. What happened to Luke? He was terrorising her for so long and then suddenly...nothing. And why was he terrorising her? If there was a legitimate reason, it wasn't really revealed. And the police officer, Roland, who showed an interest in Zoe. There was something of an innuendo regarding him but I failed to actually believe it given how it was revealed and without anything to back it up. He just sort of disappeared also.
And the ending...I mean the final twist at the very end. I'm not sure I like it as I thought the story would have sufficed perfectly well as it was before that point. BUT (...I say this because this is Liz Davis we're talking about...) I know she loves to add that extra twist right at the very end to leave readers thinking what will happen from here? Every book of hers I've read has ended on something of a cliffhanger and this one is no different. I'm not sure I liked it, but I'm processing it even as I write, so maybe it's a brilliant end after all? Like I said, it is Liz Davis.
THE MISSING WIDOW is certainly an exciting domestic thriller that readers will find difficult to put down, even if you do have to suspend belief at times...but then again, that's the beauty of reading. Nothing is real and everything is relative. Another compelling and explosive read by this exciting author.

Whoa! The Missing Widow is another must read by L.G. Davis. The descriptive, well written chapters pull you through the fast paced storyline. Just when you think you’ve got it pieced together, the twists continue. Clear your schedule and be prepared to read it in one sitting. This is a “I can’t /I don’t want to put it down” book. Thank You to Bookouture, NetGalley and L.G. Davis for the opportunity to devour this ARC.
I loved this book, though I do admit that Meghan, the main character, was hard to admire initially. As she gained strength, I started to like her much better. I loved her relationship with Ruth and Tasha, two characters that displayed warm and caring vibes. The plot started out a bit typical, wife accused of killing husband and goes on the run. But the author started peeling away layers of that life, piece by piece, until this reader wasn’t able to put the book down.
My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions expressed are my own.
Widow wanted for murder. A plot we’ve seen before, which ultimately caught my attention. The book started strong, where we all want to know did Meghan kill her terminally ill husband Brett, or was she framed for his murder?
I almost DNF’ed this book. The writing was very juvenile. The plot was clunky and nothing really happened. Meghan goes on the run with her son, but nothing happens! I mean nothing! A year passes and she is only worried about being caught! What about solving the crime! To say I was frustrated with the main character is an understatement.
The “twists” were too disjointed for me. They didn’t really add to the book. Maybe meant to be red herrings. The random “dream” was out of the blue. Seemed like the author was trying to make a villain work right at the end. And let’s talk about the end, everything thrown in including the kitchen sink, the kitchen chairs and table, and the entirety of the kitchen. Just way too many ideas and a very loose ending.
Overall a quick read, but sadly, a miss for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

If I could give it more than 10 stars I would. I have struggled so much this year with my concentration but not with this book. Once I started I could not put it down. I read the whole story in just a few hours. I know you hear people say this a lot but with this book it is so true. It is fast paced from the beginning to the end and so so good. Each chapter ends in a way that you just have to keep going. It is packed with so much action and tons of twist. Just when you think you have it all figured out here comes another twist. If you only read one book this year, it needs to be this one. This makes the second book by her I have read this year. The Missing Widow is the second book I've read by this author and I feel like this ending was better than the last by far.
Meghan is happily married to a wealthy and charming man. Just three months into their relationship, he proposes to her even though his family won't accept Meghan. Five years and a beautiful son later, this couple is going through the worst moment: Brett has a terrible cancer and refuses to receive treatment.
He has a plan: his wife helps him die.
Meghan does not agree, but when Brett gets worse, she gives in. She looks for a syringe, and when she is about to do it, she regrets it.
Meghan leaves their home, but her husband was alive and suffering. Hours later she returns to his room to find him dead.
There begins the escape of this widow, she runs away with her son and start a life with different names, but always isolated.
L.G. Davis knows perfectly how to keep her readers' attention and the tension of the story. Once I got to chapter five, it was impossible to tear myself away from my Kindle, and even when the author presents us with the opportunity to discover a horrible secret of Meghan's, I stopped reading, but within minutes I was back.
Three things I like about The Missing Widow
Present tense narrative It is the secret to involve the reader in what happens, chapter after chapter. We feel part of the widow's escape and everything she goes through.
Tension From the first chapters to the end, tension, emotion and fear are present in this story.
The ending Impressive, explosive and not at all expected.
Bottom line? The Missing Widow is one of the best book I read this 2022. Go for your copy, you won’t regret it.
I'm giving this a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Rating! My goodness guys! You have to check this book out! L.G. Davis did it again! What an incredible story! So full of suspense and twists! I was mind blown 🤯.I thought I knew what happened but wow, was I wrong! Definitely a page turner and kept me on the edge of my seat!

Reading the blurb, I expected to get your usual did she or didn't she do it plot because what else?
Megan's husband died suspiciously (mildly put) and she was on the run to avoid the cops and the wrath of her in-laws who all thought she might be do it. Now living anxiously in a small town, she changed her and her son's identities, trying to live a normal life. But she must be vigilant, as her past might come back to haunt her.
OK, it's not really a spoiler because it's in the blurb, but I thought it'd open with the husband's death? Instead, it occurred around more than 20% into the book, taking way too long to kick of the story.
The first two chapters didn't really hook me up because it seemed like a family drama genre. And I was kinda right. Until the end, something must happened to Meghan before she took action and she irked me to no end.
I wasn't impressed with the writing, it was OK tho. But the plot bugged me so much. Meghan didn't know anything about everything and someone needed to tell her about it, indirectly doing something for her, and stuffs. Then we had a mysterious stranger in the middle of the story, but I didn't care about them. And we found out someone else was dead around the same time her husband was dead, but I didn't care at all. It all felt too out of nowhere.
TRIGGER WARNING: cancer and euthanasia Meghan's life is turned upside down when her husband is diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. He refuses treatment and is desperate for her to help him die with dignity. She can't bear to help him but he dies and she is accused of murder so she grabs their son and goes on the run... The Missing Widow is a psychological thriller set in America. Meghan is devastated by her husband's illness but cannot fulfil his last wish to end his suffering, Yet she still finds herself accused of murder and runs away to go into hiding with their son Ashton. She settles into her new life but never manages to fully relax. A year later her situation is as tense as ever and she wants to prove her innocence while also finding the truth. I was absolutely gripped by this book. Meghan is put into a terrible situation and her in laws were the most dreadful people. I was so cross with her husband for not standing up to his parents but his cancer battle is heartbreaking. The dilemma she faces on whether to help him die is a huge emotional load and very thought provoking. Meghan needs to battle to find the truth whilst also staying safely incognito. The plot is delivered at a swift pace and I devoured the pages in a single afternoon. The tension is maintained right to the end and there were some fab twists in the final chapters. The Missing Widow is an emotional and gripping psychological thriller.
The Missing Widow--is about a woman named Meghan who after her husband, who was suffering from cancer was found dead and Meghan becomes the prime suspect. Meghan with her son Ashton then runs away from the small town and moves to another town, under a different name--Zoe and Clark. But almost a year later, Meghan's past seem to haunt her again. Did Meghan really kill her husband? Is she really guilty?
This is a nail-bitingly twisted psychological thriller that will put the reader on the edge. The author did a good job with that. The thriller itself is fast-paced filled with twists and turns that you wouldn't completely expect. The fact that Meghan is possibly an unreliable character and probably may have killed the husband would cast a shadow of doubt on the main character. This is also more like a cat and mouse chase game. The ending of the story was what drew me into the book and I simply couldn't put the book down. I do like the bit of cliffhanger at the end wondering what on earth is going to happen next.
Overall, if you like a domestic thriller that is quite unputdownable then this book is one for you--worth five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
And that’s my face in the picture, circled with red marker. I look out into the forest, but I can’t see anyone. How did they find me? And what do they want? I don’t know where to run next, or how to make sure my son is safe. And deep down I know the only way I can finally be free is to find out what really happened that night a year ago, when my dear husband Brett died. I’m sure I didn’t kill him… did I? But that night is a blur, and as I try to prove my innocence, the dark secrets I uncover force me to question everything I believed. The people I trusted most are not who I thought they were. And the person who is coming for me is very close to home… Really enjoyed this book totally recommend Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture
I just reviewed The Missing Widow by L. G. Davis. #TheMissingWidow #NetGalley
Meghan is a hotel chambermaid who marries the heir of the hotel chain. Her friends from the hotel ditch her once she gets married, her in-laws can't stand her, and she is alone in the world except for her husband Brett, who is dying of cancer.
On the night Brett dies, he asks her to give him a lethal dose of drugs to put him out of his suffering. Meghan refuses and leaves the room, but when she returns the syringe is empty and her husband is dead --- and her in-laws are accusing her of murdering him for the money.
On the run, Meghan tries to outrun her past and start over with her four-year old son --- but her constant fear and efforts to try and clear her name and come out of hiding leads her to uncover new information about the family she married into and the hotel they run.
The last 25% of this book was so chaotic it felt like a fireworks show. I wish the tension had been more spread out throughout the entire book (it didn't really feel like a suspense until the latter half) but the ending certainly did have my jaw on the floor.
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for the aRC in exchange for my honest review!
If you like twists and turns and not knowing who to trust, this is the book for you. Meghan's husband of only 5 years, Brett, has stomach cancer and he is nearing the end. He made a plan for Meghan to help him end his life when his pain got too bad. She fills a syringe with whatever it was he left for her, but she decides she cannot do it and she leave the house. When she comes back, she finds him dead and the syringe is on the floor. She is sure she did not do it, but she is having her doubts. She takes her son, Ashton, to the park the next morning and when they get near their house, she sees a lot of police cars and they right on going. Meghan gets blamed for Brett's death. They end us in a small two in Tennessee and begin a new life with new names, Zoe and Clark. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I really enjoyed it, except for the ending.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this thriller which was a real page-turner.
