Beast Master (The Temple Chronicles #5) by Shayne Silvers is yet another awesome book in a string of greats! I can't wait for these books to hit the big screen either as movie or tv show. This one is no different then the others in that it is filled with humor, snark, danger, unexpected creatures or surprises, and great characters. There are big surprises in this book. Indie has a new look, Nate redecorates his house, and his friends want to kill him...wait, that's not new. Lots of fun in here with snarky but not annoying dialogue, characters that hold the glue of the book together, and Nate that is....just Nate! Go TEAM TEMPLE!!!

Ohh, now what do we have here!
I'm at book number 5. It's amazing that it's still extremely exciting and fun and yay
No idea why there aren't more people reading this series, but there should be. This author is great, and somehow, even at book number 5, he still manages to surprise me.

My affection for the first books in the series has me continuing to read past the last book's 3 star review, hoping the series would shake off its issues and bounce back.
It didn't happen with this installment and I'm debating whether I'll read the next.
While I like that Silvers is getting a quick turnaround with series installments (I'm ridiculously impatient when I want to continue reading and run out of books), I almost feel as if this is what's causing the series to suffer because he's not spending enough time looking for problems with the original characters. Either that, or Silvers needs to find more beta readers to test the book before he rushes it to publication. It'd be a shame to lose audience momentum just for not taking enough time to craft his work. I'm not saying to go to the opposite side of the spectrum ala Patrick Rothfuss, but a couple more reviews and revisions couldn't hurt.
There were more, but some of issues I had:
Crisis - The story started with the plotline basically being thrown in Temple's lap.
Indie - Polar opposite? Even with Grimm, I don't buy it.
Temple - Dark & chaos and then rebuild the world, yet wants to be a Wizard just because it's what he's comfortable with? Also not believable, especially because Temple is an intellect, yes? Wouldn't he want to explore the ranges of being a Maker?
Cast - Lots of characters thrown in, but they're mainly caricatures because there's no exploration/expansion of them.

Every single time I think Mr. Silvers will never be able to write a better book than the one he just wrote, he surprises me every time. In this latest installment of the Nate Temple series, Nate is feeling all kinds of down as he has lost someone important to him to another family member, and he is dealing with his new power. Then, he is approached by Rufus who wants Nate to rescue his daughter from the Beast Master, someone who kidnaps Freaks and puts them in his show. Nate is willing but is put off when Rufus puts a curse on him. Now, in the process of finding Rufus’ daughter, enemies are becoming close friends, close friends are becoming enemies, and everyone thinks Nate is losing his mind from all the talking to “himself” he does. Will everything get straightened out or will Nate lose everyone, including the one he thought lost to him at the beginning? Wow! I don’t know what I can say that I haven’t said before. Mr. Silvers keeps getting better and better, and if Jim doesn’t hurry up and start writing one of my favorite series again, he’ll have to go by the wayside as there is so much goodness in this series to keep me entertained. The series to date is very well-written, the characters are so much fun, and the action is great. I really can’t say enough good things. If you love urban fantasy, give this series a try; you won’t regret it. Highly recommend!

Silvers' writing ability has proven brilliant through all his books, but the sheer gravitas he puts into this story with every little thing and all of it piling up to absolute chaos shows that there is madness in his methods and for good reason. This time the protagonist's biggest enemy to overcome is himself and his instability, and learning that his choices have more effects and consequences than he could have foreseen on numerous levels. Every character comes to call in this story and all of them continue to grow and develop into stronger, more dynamic characters in fits and spurts and even with the first person narration being even more heavily skewed by the emphasis on mental and emotional instability on the protagonist's part, there is still a clear insight into the other characters and their actions. For the most part, the antagonistic characters are still shrouded in more mystery than ever and allies of old are quickly joining that enemy roster in spades.
All in all, this book packs the most changes and turn arounds of the series to date in a small, rapidly unfolded space and puts a spotlight on the ticking clock of absolute doom for the cast. The stage is seemingly set for the larger acts to unfold in turn, even as the events of the book itself have shaken many aspects of the characters to the core to left their future dubious at best, and world ending at worst. If escalation was Silvers' intent for this book, he succeeded and then some, leaving the only question being that after all that chaos, what could possibly come at them next?

As with all of the books in the Nate Temple universe, this one seriously does NOT disappoint! Shayne Silvers, as always, starts with action and adventure, sprinkled liberally with snark and wit, a few dashes of angst and woe, and and a smidge of WTF for good measure.
Figures of myth and legend, whom you have always felt comfortable "knowing" through literature are always brought to light in whole new and interesting ways, humanizing them also, at times, demonizing them. Characters are always well rounded and fun, even in the midst of terror and tears.
Read ALL the books! Trust me, if you love myth and magic and modern day paranormal shenanigans this is one author you simply can NOT pass by... especially since each and every book in this series has been better than the ones before it!

Super action
Just when you think you might know where Nate is headed, he switches things up. At first glance all looks well for Team Temple, well, except for Indie off training with Ichabad. But Nate has a houseful of friends and plenty of good cheer until an unexpected guest comes calling. Basically a whole lot of unexpected chaos ensues and everyone is fairly convinced that Nate had finally lost his ever loving mind. In a hail Mary attempt to set things right, Nate even gets up close and personal with the gods. Not all relationships will survive the price that Nate has to pay in his attempt to make things right.

This may be my favorite book yet in this series. This author has a talent of messing with your equilibrium and throwing you off course. And this book is no different. Nate is again cursed – and he’ll need to embrace his inner demon to come out of this one alive and face the Beast Master. With a little help from his friends, this very original, action-packed story will keep you on the edge of your seat. A lot of base things happened in this story that propelled this story forward in ways I didn’t see coming and gives us some answers to some questions, but raises one big question, who and what the hell is Mallory??
Start from the beginning, and get ready for a great series – you won’t want to put this one down.

I love Nate Temple! This guy is nuts but with a heart of gold and enough hutzpah to make even the Four Horsemen wonder! Yet another installment in this series that does not slow down from the word go. We meet new characters, get into the biggest mess so far, and still have to save the world. What could go wrong? All I can say is if you like action and mythology, read this series.

I thought this book had a lot of interesting stuff going on not just with Nate but with his friends also. He made some new allies and lost some of his old allies. He almost lost his best friend and he did lose his fiancé. Nate also lost some powers and regained others. I hope in his next book that he is able to take care of his annoying relative. He was such a pain in the butt in this book more like an enemy.

Consistently great writing, but this might be the last one for me. I liked the idea of him being a Maker and after one book it was taken away. Not that I want to take away from the author's discretion, but it's the manner in which it was taken. It seems like Nate really never learns lessons from previous books.
And Indie? That shift was probably akin to Anakin Skywalker switching sides and killing kids.

This book was about 98% repetitive fillers, which have ceased to being entertaining, and 2% story.
As I have already bought the whole series, I am going to continue with it, hoping it gets better.

Long breathless sigh...
Have you ever loved to hate a story? Eh...? You ask in complete confusion. I know. I confuse myself too. There was so much I was hoping for in this book. More about being a Maker. To me, that's total badass, but hey, it's not my world. I'm just a visitor. I feel kinda left behind in some places. Shayne, thank you, he eventually answers some, not all, but some of my "pesky need to know questions". We kinda find out the reason Indy ran off with the old timer in book 4. And I'm not happy with the side kick friends. Honestly, poor Nate. The guy gets trouble in spades, his friends are assholes on a good day, but let him do something remotely wrong in their eyes and it's kick Nate while he's down. That bit really made me want to go smack down while in my pjs.
As for everything else... S (short for Shayne) writes epic battle scenes, gives ultimate lip, aka sarcasm at its finest, and tied up a few inner plots and started many more. So. Even with my itty bitty gripe, this series rocks. I can't wait to see what's next. I tip my hat.

HOLY SHIT
Where do I even begin?
First off, the comedy in this book is gold. Sonya doesn't understand sexual innuendos. Alucard got wacked in the head with a rock. A crazy powerful being that Nate named "Carl". It literally does not get better than this.
The plot twists at the end never fail to disappoint. I almost screamed when I realized that Tory was a Beast Master. Then I did scream when I saw that the little girl was the Beast Master. Then I screamed a little louder when the red dragon turned out to be Indie. What a shitshow for Nate!!
Nate's Beast is such a complicated creature, but, hey, at least he's got his wizard power back. I'm going to miss Maker Nate, because he was insane, but still. Wizard Nate for the win because he's a badass.
Alucard is phenomenal. Every scene he is in is just great. I love his character.
Gunnar is filling his role of an Alpha!!! I'm proud of him but scared for his and Nate's relationship. They'll pull through, I hope.
Anyways, this book sent me on an emotional rollercoaster. I can't WAIT to start Tiny Gods.

-3 stars. i had a hard time getting into this one. i didn't like the beast, i didn't like who nate was turning into. i didn't like the division between everyone. i mean the story was interesting and kept me reading, but i'm glad that 'evil nate' is finished.

It's been said that no relationship can exist in a vacuum - Nate Temple is finding this out because all of his are starting to suck. His friends think he's going crazy, he's not sure he isn't and he has more bitches than a puppy mill mad at him. Add in Gods, Angels, Horsemen of the Apocalypse and fairies that would sooner take your teeth than leave you money and you have making of one epic adventure. This book takes Nate (and you) on a much darker journey than the previous books. While you could read the books in the series as stand alone's, this story definitely needs the background provided from the previous books. The adventure continues. . .

Nate's sanity is slipping, he has lost Indie after she took off with Ichabod who he hates and the gets tricked to help someone out. I love how people who were once enemies now allies, but alas there are others who no longer are allies. Nate really has his job cut out for him to stand up to the Beast Master even with a lot of help and pressure as others are affected by the Beast Master. You will LOL with the scene in the bank and Alucard and the digs he gives poor Gunner.
More than the Beast Master come out to play, there are a good amount of twists thrown in and how it ends ... wow .. just wow.
Argh and we still don't no anymore about Mallory!

Seriously, how many times you can step in to the same poop pile again and again? Well this books has the answer - a lot, by bow the aforementioned poop pile has a loong track record, and our character is definitely a conductor in this poop train, when he is not riding his meat bicycle...
was gonna rate this 2/5, but it has Boo in it (the giant Space Hamster or whatever Ganeshas rodent is called (insert Baldur's Gate reference)) so therefore 4/5 in my books, saved again by plethora fun characters.

Finally! Nate is no longer with Ivy! Although I didn't expect her to go dark even if she might have her reasons. Hopefully his friends are back in his corner. I can't tell if something will happen between him and othello but honestly I wouldn't mind. I don't think they will ultimately end up together but it would be okay if some things happened between them again. I hope he and his best friend make amends. It made me feel sad when I saw his description that he was his former best friend. More trouble is to come per usual.

Best series I've read in a while!
Silvers is amazing at character development. Seeing how Nate & the majority of the crew grow & change in each book is thing of beauty. I can't wait to read the next book (I'm Starting it once I'm done with this). Shayne's writing pulls you in & makes you feel like you are physically there in the middle of all the action, I could smell the decay, feel the flames and hear the cries.
If you want to be pulled into another realm from the comfort of your couch please choose this series, you will not regret it. #TeamTemple

Everyone seems to be turning on Nate as he battles with trust issues and a deeper descent into Maker madness. Another curse strips his powers and he meets with gods Shiva and Ganesh for some metaphysical advice. Indie's gone bad and it fuels Nate's anger-driven chaos. Throw in the evil Beast Master kidnapping Freaks for his death matches, and it is one busy story.

Beware of Power
Slowly but surely we are seeing Nate muddle his way thru events that would drive a Regular insane. He's a bit too caught up in his abilities & that attitude keeps him from finding his way until the last minute. This is one such time & he loses people because of it. He also gets life lessons from multiple deities but alot of their wisdom goes right over his head.

He's a bit too caught up in his abilities & that attitude keeps him from finding his way until the last minute. This is one such time & he loses people because of it. He also gets life lessons from multiple deities but alot of their wisdom goes right over his head.

another winner from Shayne!
So, at first when the plot was developing in the beginning, I thought: didn’t we already read this plot a few books ago? Come on, I expected more from you Shayne! But then, holy sheoly! What a plot twist, and no it was not the same plot line as in the previous Temple book. The last 20% of this book is mind blowing! You really upped your game on this one Shayne! Can’t wait to find out what’s in store for Nate next!

Team Temple does it again!
Much like the previous books, Shayne Silvers brings his readers on a supernatural thrill ride in his latest. I love how various flavors of were, fae, wizards, etc are thrown together to provide a fast paced but involved story. The fact that it's set in St. Louis is the icing on the cake.

A True Visionary!
I am an avid reader and I have never experienced such a masterful storyteller! Shayne's ability to weave a tale and totally engross you in the story is magical. I must say that he has become my #1 favorite author and I look forward to his upcoming books. The Beast Master will entertain you and leave you on the edge of your seat and like all his fans....begging for more!

A freaking amazing read!!!
Loved everything about it! Action, laughter, mystery, gods, fae, weres, just plain addiction!!!! Absolutely a must read!!! Characters that you love (some you love to see killed off) & writing that does not disappoint! I won't go into the story itself because you seriously need to experience it yourself.
