Keeping their distance is the safest path, but sometimes magic and the heart make other plans.

For pack alpha, Angel Velasquez, every day is a struggle to keep his head above water. Between running his bar, paying back a mountain of debt, and protecting his pack from dark witches, the Fae, and anyone else just waiting for a sign of weakness, he already has more than he can handle. The last thing he needs is a refugee from Faerie dumped in his lap, no matter how sweet and sexy he might be. But when an elven prince calls in a debt, refusal is not an option.

Dafydd hates keeping secrets almost as much as being seen as a burden. A dragon is supposed to be fierce, proud, and self-reliant. Betrayed by those he thought he could trust most and forced to run from the only home he’s ever known, he isn’t feeling very dragonly. Is it any wonder Angel can’t see him as an equal, someone worthy of his time and possibly his affection?

As Halloween approaches and their bond grows despite every reason it shouldn’t, what will they risk to protect each other when the real hunt begins?

Hunted is an over 100k slow burn romance featuring a cinnamon roll of a dragon, a grumpy alpha, meddling pack, mysterious neighbor and a guaranteed HEA. Each book of Into the Wyldewood can be read separately but are best experienced in order.

Another enthralling visit to the Wyldewood

I loved the short story which kicked off this series as part of the Magic Emporium and I was delighted when I saw Rowan had released a second entry.

With the beginning overlapping slightly with book one, we get to see the big fight and fire at The Den from another POV.

Alpha wolf Angel isn't too happy at the start of this book. He's got plenty of troubles to keep him fretting and his bargain to hide Daffyd is just one of them.

Part of the plot cleverly focuses on his money worries, his fears that he's not a good leader, the deal to protect the gateway into Faerie that's on his packland and his attraction to the quite young man hiding out in his bar.

What I adored the most about this narrative is that I had zero clue about where the plot was going to go. Usually I'll get a feel for what the author is going run with but here I was left guessing right until the end.

There's heavy use of the legends surrounding the Faerie Courts, the Wild Hunt which appears in multiple different European folklore tales, and the introduction of a mythical creature very rarely seen in books which I have some thoughts about and I really hope we're getting a book three to find out if I'm right.

Angel and Daffyd dance around each other for a good long while, this is definitely a slow burning pace, and the story benefits from that immensely.

When Angel finally accepts his wolf's insistence that Daffyd is his, the temperature rises.

With threats lurking all over the place, Rowan offers the reader a brilliant romp to the finish.

Now I really need at least two more books in this series, if not more

good!

While there is a trope I really don’t like (relationship based) I did like these two! The first part of this happens parallel to book 1 and was interesting seeing from the other side a bit. Lots of characters and a satisfying resolution

entertaining with terrific characters but plotting has issues

Rating: 3.75🌈

It’s been a while since I read the first book in the series, Hexes and Horns, so getting back into this universe needed prompting from the author for necessary foundation work.

There’s some really good elements here and some I feel need better explanation or more detail to feel complete.

The characters are terrific. The mixed pack of shifters trying to pull it together on the edge of an uneasy otherworldly boundary situation is a great element. It adds so much natural tension and believable shifting pack dynamics that I wish we’d had more of this aspect of the story. From Grammy, CJ, and various other pack members, the rawness and energy of this stressful scene came through perfectly.

Especially with its Alpha, Angel Velasquez, who has his own struggles to overcome, along with the otherworldly dealings and beings to deal with to ensure that the pack is safe. That includes murky agreements with one of the Fae over someone Angel has agreed to give sanctuary to.

That’s the mysterious Dafydd. His story and background very slowly reveals itself, almost too slowly. We figure out pretty quickly what type of being he is but not why he’s in danger.

That background is extremely difficult to understand and too complicated for the events that follow. It’s not well laid out narratively nor are all the vague clues as to his species history or strangely mysterious individuals that are important to this aspect of the story but without any firm foundation.

It’s frustrating that we get great characters but holes in the storylines and universe building when needed.
Like an unacknowledged mate bond. Why not just go ahead and cement that aspect of their relationship? It made no sense to leave it as one more cloudy element .

I enjoy this author and find she’s very imaginative and entertaining. This book has many good elements, enough to make it an enjoyable read.

Not gonna lie — I remember nothing from the first book 😅. So the beginning was a bit wobbly for me while I tried to re-immerse myself in the universe, wondering if I was supposed to recognize the characters… or the context… or literally anything. After a few chapters, I gave up trying to remember and just powered through with whatever my brain could manage.

The main story itself felt pretty “simple,” I guess. Dafydd is a dragon who’s been hiding in Angel Velasquez’s wolf pack because the Prince of the Fae is planning to sacrifice him during the Wild Hunt. So the plot basically follows Angel and his pack trying to protect Dafydd (with very limited info at first), and Angel inevitably falling in love with him in the process.

Overall, I enjoyed it — Dafydd is such a precious dragon! He was raised among the fae since he was an egg, so he doesn’t know much about the outside world, and he has this adorable childlike innocence. Plus, he’s still young for a dragon and hasn’t even flown or developed his fire yet (he’s a fire dragon!).

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Angel, though. Sometimes he treated Dafydd like a kid (probably because of that innocence), and I wish he didn’t. But I’ll give him this: he was absolutely fierce when protecting Dafydd. And that scene where Dafydd tried to show Angel he loved him? Yeah… I had tears in my eyes. I KNOW, I KNOW — I’m that sappy!!

Thank you for arc read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Hidden in this human realm, with it's strange in a wondrous type of way. At least what Dafydd had been able to see. It seems keeping the alpha away was the only way to keep his secrets. When a temper tantrum dark witch throws a hissy fit, Angel is left with clean up duty. Now stuck with a mysterious refugee that pulls at him, being an alpha sucks! With pressure mounting, Angel fears taking his focus off pack matters, all their enemies will rush and devour them whole. Being treated like a twinkling little human was about to make the beast inside Dafydd erupt all over Angel, and I'm here for that surprised moment.
How can he not know what kind of magical shifter Dafydd is with all the hurding he does.. Dafydd is on a limited time, It's so unfair that the hot Angel tries to keep him at arms length that really isn't to hard.  Is it wise to goggle other!?! Well if he wants a reaction from Angel that's very well may set the big wolf off.  After being accepted in Wyldewood, Dafydd fate approaches, will he accept it or fight for what he wants?

ARC received from the author for an honest review.

Angel is the pack leader with a lot of responsibilities. He's asked by a fae to hide someone for a time. When he agrees he doesn't count on falling for the someone or the trouble that someone brings to the pack. He's also trying to keep the pack companies in the red.

Dafydd is the someone that's being hidden. He has secrets of his own and he doesn't want the pack getting hurt by hiding him. He's finding that he enjoys the pack life better than his fae life. He immediately takes a shine to Angel and becomes very jealous when an old flame comes to town.

This is an okay romance, paranormal, fantasy book. It starts out immediately after book one and was very confusing for the first third of the book, as I haven't read book one. Definitely not a true stand alone. Angel and Dafydd have good chemistry. I didn't like the old flame coming to town as it seemed like needless drama and his reasons for being there weren't reveled. I like the other supporting characters as they fleshed out the story a little. Dafydd's reason for being hid and the ending to his hiding, made the story for me.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the second book in the Into the Wyldewood series by Rowan McAllister. The first book was Hexes and Horns which was also part of the Magic Emporium and told the story of Ryan and Leo, a dark witch and a unicorn. This time the story is about Angel, a werewolf alpha, and Dafydd, a cinammon roll of a dragon shifter. I would say it would be helpful to read book 1 prior to reading this story but not entirely necessary. I read the first book over a year ago and was able to read this story without being lost.

I really enjoyed the story and the romance. It was a bit of a slow burn romance with a mystery surrounding Dafydd's identity and origins. It is about two of my favorite creatures..werewolves and a dragon so I was predisposed to love it. I thought the magic and world building was great. I am looking forward to the next book. Who will it be about? I want to learn more about Motte, Cormack and Angel's second.

I fell for Dafydd right away– there’s something seriously compelling about him, and even though recent events have knocked him down somewhat he’s still exactly the kind of dragon you’d definitely want to meet– he’s got a heart of gold and is pretty much the cinnamon roll to put all other cinnamon rolls to shame. Even Angel, who’s got 99+ problems and is kind of oblivious/ spikey-tempered on a good day (he puts the grumpy in the grumpy alpha trope, in ways that are, somehow, mostly charming) isn’t immune to Dafydd’s appeal, although it’s a slow burn with lots of buildup and interruptions, courtesy of everything ranging from an old flame of Angel’s to the mystery at the heart of the story. While the romance can stand alone, it’s definitely helpful, for context on the overall world these characters inhabit, and because it’s also a fun read, to start with the first book in the series. 4.5 stars.

Book 2 of the Wyldewood series.

The MCs
Angel -Alpha of the local wolf pack. He's got alot on his plate. A bar to run, crazy things going on with the local witches, and faery agreements in place he's not too happy about. Then he gets saddled with a shifter to hide, who shifts into what is anyone's guess, by a fae he's indebted to. It's just his luck this shifter is too cute for his own good.

Dafydd - He looks all sweet and cute, but actually his shifter side is quite ferocious. Not ferocious enough however, so the little ginger escapes from Faery and hides in the human world. He tries to not cause any problems, but he can't help throwing himself...repeatedly...at the gruff Alpha that lights his inner fire. And he knows Angel feels the same way. He just needs to convince the wolf this shifter is not off limits.

There's fae princes, the wild hunt, wolves, kidnappings the full monty. I enjoyed the story.

Overall, this was a fun read - the world-building, in particular, was engaging and kept me involved through the first part, which dragged a bit for me. I wasn’t sure what to expect, having not read the first in the series, and the start of Dafydd’s and Angel’s romance arc didn’t grab my attention even as I could understand the choices made. Well-written, made sense to the story, I just didn’t find myself invested in them as a couple and really kept waiting for the non-romance plot to come back on page. Even though it is a stand-alone, I think reading the first one may have made a difference for me on that, if only to make me familiar with their trajectory. About one-third of the way in, things shifted, and the climactic scene was a great payoff. That part alone makes me want more in the series.

I stayed up to the wee hours to finish this book. I absolutely loved it.

Dafydd was sweet and utterly selfish so it was no surprise that Angel was drawn to him. I wanted to set these two up from the very beginning, but Angel, being Angel, had other ideas. Angel was frustrating but he eventually, got his act together.

My heart was in my throat at one point. I was seriously stressed out as everything unfolded.

I really enjoyed this one. Beautifully written and the characters pulled me in, at every turn.

The dragon and the wolf

I loved this story!!! I am a sucker for dragons and unicorns anyway…and I was thrilled at a return to this world after Ryan and Leo’s book. Now we have Angel, the alpha of the Wyldewood pack, and Dafydd, the dragon trying to escape the machinations of the fae court. These characters are all so well written and a I loved them all. This is definitely worth a read. You can read it without having read Hexes and Horns but it would help a little to understand the event at the beginning of the book. Absolutely fabulous book and a I admit to being a huge fan of Dafydd, who isn’t as helpless as Angel first assumes.

I’m loving this series! I’d love to have more volumes in the future if the author feels inspired to continue. The world is great, the characters sweet and yet relatable, and the plots intriguing. Fingers crossed for future additions to this series!

I really liked the story, I liked how secrets about the characters were slowly uncovered and I liked the paranormal aspects. I liked the side characters and I think they added a lot to the story. I liked Dayfdd and Angel. Dayfdd was small and fiesty, but hides a big reveal! I loved how Angel had no interest in being alpha but stepped up and protected everyone. It was light on the romance, but there was a lot going on with the story. I am pretty excited for CJ's story, and I think Cormack definitely has a story.

werewolf gay bar

Fish out of water shifter under the watchful eye of a wolf alpha, throw in a life of trauma, trust issues, a bunch of other cryptids, fae and their BS, and a romance that takes a bit of work to get off the ground, and you have a fast paced circus that is over before I wanted it to end.

Queer sensibility, vers alphas, a pack of misfits that has everyone’s back, all in all I hope there’s more in this series.

“It’s Complicated”

This was quite the convoluted storyline, with multiple twists on the way to its resolution. Reasonable character development, though a bit more background history would have been nice. And the plot often forged ahead, leaving the reader to catch up as best they could. This book does end on a positive note, and though the future is not certain, the hope remains.

Hunted is an excellent continuation of the Into the Wyldewood series. I like the world this author has built with its whimsy and dark undertones. Seeing characters from book one was nice too. The pack dynamics are interesting, and I found myself rooting for all of them as the story unfolded.
Angel and Dafydd are a lovely couple. Their passion is strong, their emotional connection is believable, and their HEA is satisfying.
I like this take on Dafydd’s dragon. I don’t believe I’ve seen that particular “lore” used before. The Fae aspect of the piece is sufficiently ominous to keep me on the edge of my seat.
Hunted kept my attention from page one to the end, and I was happy with its conclusion.
I look forward to more from this author.

This is a good book, though reading the first book of the series Hexes and Horns might help with some of the characters. I found that the plot was a little slow and was past halfway through before it started to pick up. Seems to focus more on developing the characters. Received this as an ARC for my honest review.

Into the Wyldewood book 2

Angel and Dafyd. How does a hiding fae and a shifter fall in love? Dafyd has a secret and is being hidden away on the mortal plane. Angel is a reluctant alpha trying to keep his motley band of shifters safe. An unexpected shift surprises everyone. I loved this addition to the series! Highly recommended

A very sweet, touchy story. I had to re-read Hexes and Horns to remember the storyline but it was worth to smoothly move on to this one.
It left me with a lots of warm, fuzzy feelings and it's precious in these crazy times.
