Casanova Family #2

The Biggest Secret

Rate this book
Adam

Hard work drives me.

I watched my father work his ass off for our family.

Being the oldest, its my job to continue that. Take care of my parents, my brothers, my sister.

Idle time and idle hands make for poor decisions.

Work now, work hard and the future will fall into place.

Boy was I wrong.

My future walked out on me when I couldn’t put her first.

When I couldn’t find balance.

But now my future just gave me a second chance. Will I be able to hold onto it this time? Will I learn from my mistakes? Because it’s not just about me and her anymore.

Chelsea:

I’ve seen what second choice looks like all of my life. My dad left my mom because his first choice was booze. My sister’s fiancé chose another woman over her.

Even my own boyfriend couldn’t choose me over his work.

So I left. Was it the right thing to do? Probably not. But I wouldn’t know what a good decision is if it smacked me in the face.

Now it’s not just me I’m choosing for. I’m not alone anymore and need to think of how our future will play out. Can I go from being second choice to getting, and giving, a second chance?

This was my first read by this author, and I believe it’s the second book in the series. From what I can tell, the series follows the whole family, and this one focused on Chelsea and Adam.

Chelsea and Adam were college sweethearts. After years together, Chelsea moved with him to his hometown in Texas, but things quickly went downhill. Adam is family-orientated, runs his dad’s business, and feels a constant pressure to provide for everyone. In his head, he’s doing his best. But from Chelsea’s side, he’s always missing anniversaries, forgetting dates, and generally not showing up for her.

Chelsea has deep abandonment issues (her dad left when she was young), so she’s insecure and anxious in relationships. Enter Grace — the girl in town who takes every opportunity to whisper doubts in Chelsea’s ear. She tells Chelsea things like she and Adam were once together, they have unfinished business, and that whenever Adam is missing, he’s actually with her. Instead of confronting Adam, Chelsea spirals. Then she finds out she’s pregnant and decides to run before he can hurt her.

The book then jumps to two years later. Chelsea returns to Texas to tell Adam about Dominic, their 18-month-old son. The story is about them reconciling and Adam stepping into fatherhood.

Here’s where it lost me:
• Grace always being there: Adam genuinely never knew Chelsea was insecure about Grace, but I hated that every time he and Chelsea argued, Chelsea would run to her sister’s place and Adam would end up at the bar. And guess who was always conveniently there? Grace. He didn’t call her, but she was just there, and he’d end up talking to her. That constant presence bugged me, especially since it was never properly resolved.
• The celibacy/double standard: Chelsea stays celibate, while Adam starts sleeping with Grace about a year after Chelsea left. He wasn’t exactly sleeping around, but it gave me the ick. If Chelsea was supposedly the love of his life, why did he move on with Grace of all people? If he was so busy with work, why not just focus on that instead?
• The lack of communication: Chelsea apologizes for leaving and hiding Dominic, but they never really sit down and hash things out. Grace’s role in all of this is brushed off, even though she keeps stirring drama. That lack of an honest conversation made their reunion feel unearned.
• Immaturity: These are adults, but they don’t act like it. For example, after an argument, Adam storms off to the bar (again), and Grace shows up. Why even put yourself in that position?
• The pacing/time jumps: The book uses a mix of past and present chapters, and honestly, their past relationship didn’t feel as intense as it was made out to be. In the present, time skips forward in chunks like “the past few weeks” or “the past few months,” and it felt like a rushed way to move the story to its end.
• Dragged-out drama: There’s even a third breakup, which felt over the top and unnecessary.

To be fair, I didn’t mind the secret baby trope here, which usually annoys me. What frustrated me was Adam as a hero. He never told Chelsea much about Grace, which fed her insecurities, and even when nothing had happened between them before, he still kept her around under the excuse of being “nice.” Later, when he needed to cut Grace off, he dragged his feet again. Combine that with the bar scenes and his quick move-on after Chelsea left, and he just wasn’t a hero I could root for.

That said, I am curious about his siblings and the rest of the family, so I’ll continue the series. But this one? It had potential and I usually enjoy other-woman drama, but the execution left me disappointed.

This is my first book by Carolina Jax. I got it as a freebie. I don't think it was from the Stuff Your Kindle event, though. This book took me forever to read! Not because I wasn't interested in the book, but because I had a lot going on I didn't have time to sit down and read more than a few pages at once until today. I started it on the plane from Mexico City I believe, but then I had to read some ARCs, so I put this book down for a couple of days. Reading it in bits also didn't help me with my confusion later on in my review (with the who's who with the side characters & flashback/time jumps). I was annoyed at how long it was taking me to read it. I put on my agenda to finish this book today, and I finished right before midnight.

I had this whole phase when I was seventeen where I only read the secret baby trope. 🤣I would scan Goodreads lists looking for secret baby reads. Of course, I read other things, but I loved this trope so much. I still like it, but I'm not as obsessed with it as I used to be. And my favorite part about the trope is the heroine discovering she's pregnant. Unfortunately, that wasn't here for

I loved the college scenes. I think I'm a sucker for college-aged romance or even romance where the girl's 17 because I can live vicariously through these heroines. I had a boyfriend when I was 17, but we were long-distance, so I never had that high school, senior-year romance that I wanted. The only thing was that all the flashbacks and time jumps were confusing. I'm going to need to go back to figure out how old Dominic, their son, is in the present, how old they are, how long they had been together before Chelsea left Adam, etc.

All the side characters confused me too. I liked that they had a supportive circle, but it was almost too many side characters. It took me way too long to realize that Chessy was the nickname for Francesca, Adam's sister. If I understand correctly, Tom, Billy, Adam, and Francesca are all Casanovas. Britt and Farrah are friends, and Adley is Chelsea's sister. I LOVED Billy; he was so funny, and I'd love to read his book with Adley (was shipping them all along). I didn't get a good read on Tom, but the preview to his book in the epilogue is intriguing... so I may have to check his book out sometime (though I have banned myself from growing my to-read-list.)

I was confused at first when the town, Christmas, was named-dropped. I thought that was a typo, lol.

This book had so many great lines and a few moments that made me laugh out loud. There were also quite a few typos (I'd be embarrassed if I were the editor for this book...another editor that needs to be fired) and formatting errors, though the book was formatted with Vellum so I don't know why that was the case. For instance, half the time, there were no scene breaks. Then at one point, there were scene breaks nonstop when they weren't needed.

At 63%, I thought the two had finally decided to be together, so I was afraid that something bad was going to happen. There was a third-act separation, but it made sense. I also don't blame Chelsea for running in the first place, leading there to be a secret baby. One of my biggest dating pet peeves is when a guy is too busy working and doesn't have enough time for me. In a relationship, I want a guy to be my best friend, so I want to talk to him (via text) often throughout the day. I don't want to be talking the most to someone else. So I get why Chelsea finally got fed up with him after he canceled too many times and came home too late or not at all. He kept prioritizing work over her. What I couldn't figure out was did she ever work? I don't think there was any mention of her having a job or not having a job in the book. She also had daddy issues; her father was mainly a sperm donor and would come late or not at all, drunk and disheveled.

What frustrated me was Chelsea took too long to tell Adam her reasons for leaving him. She kind of let him come to the right conclusion. I was like girl, speak up already!! Adam was super hot, and I like the handsome cover model, lol. A few too many things in the book were told instead of shown, but I think that would have just made the book longer. I want to say I wish they had talked about their pasts more (my frequent complaint for romance novels), but I felt they knew each other well, and a lot of the talking they did happened before the book started (as in the present)/off-page.

The other woman was annoying, but she was a part of the plot. (One reason why Chelsea left and became insecure in the present was that she believed the other woman's bullshit about her and Adam.)

Another relationship that could have been fixed by communication. As a trope, it's not my fave and there were a couple of times they were both immature, but they worked well together.

Holy Cassanova! Carolina, I know you said that Adam gave you a lot of trouble but it was totally worth it. Adam is a dominant alpha, the leader of the family, the protector, provider, and ultimate fixer for everyone. He leads with his need to be everything to everyone but that innate need to provide and protect everyone else left the one person who loved him most questioning where she fell in that priority line.

After falling into her own insecurities from traumas from her past and letting gossip into her head, Chelsea did the one thing she thought she needed to do to protect herself, run. But at what cost? To herself, to Adam, to them as a couple and to their son.

Coming back to Christmas is both easy and terrifying. Some welcome her with open arms, some have questions and the biggest obstacle Chelsea faces is her own guilt.

Adam and Chelsea were made for each other. The sparks, chemistry, and passion between Chelsea and Adam are off the charts and their need for each other hasn’t faded. But, can they now navigate the changes and move past the hurt that has been there the past two years?

This book is about finding the true meaning of love ❤️About letting go, being vulnerable, and fighting for what your soul needs. The love Adam and Chelsea is something extraordinarily special. Carolina brings you into the Cassanova world making you fall in love with her characters even more. Can not wait for Tom and Billy’s story ❤️❤️

Let me start off by saying, Carolina hit it out of the park with this one just like with the others. ❤️‍🔥
I was so anxiously excited to read Adam’s and Chelsea’s story and it was everything and more.
First we have Adam who is always putting his work ( quite a workaholic ) and his family first while not making the one person who owns his heart his 1st priority. His neglectfulness causes his future to up and leave.
Will he learn from his Mistakes if given the chance to redeem himself especially when it’s just not him and Chelsea anymore?

Then we have Chelsea who has always known what second choices are first hand and she didn’t want to start a cycle of her own so she left town without looking back.
But she’s back two years later and she’s not alone. Will she be able to be given a second chance despite that actions she did that led them to where they are now?

This was an emotional and intense rollercoaster. Both Adam and Chelsea made bad decisions that tore them apart but you can see the love shining from the pages itself that it’s far from over.
I had all the feels!
I went from crying from one minute to laughing the next and then sweating like a wh*re in church because I felt like was sinning. It’s just that good! 🫣🥵
Adam definitely has the BDE and it’s not what you think it stands for or maybe it is but also something else lol. 😉

I loved seeing the whole Casanova family again. Who doesn’t love them?!
Their bond is so tight and if someone needs something, they go running. Each one of them are simply amazing and bring something to this incredible series.

The ending/epilogue had me over the moon with one couple’s HEA but sad with the beginning of another couple’s story we’ll be reading soon! 😭♥️

Read in one sitting

First of all Mr Alpha Adam was hot.

This book was a good spicy and emotional read.
Many will be able to relate to Chelsea and her fears and insecurities.

If you like the secret baby trope, you'll like this book.

Angst

Both MCs have issues but I found myself blaming Adam more than CJ.
He strung CJ along for years, it's no wonder she was insecure.
But I don't know why she ditched her girls when she ghosted him.
Or why he didn't go get her.

Adam Freaking Casanova! Daddy Adam🫠😮‍💨

The biggest secret was full of secrets, turns, and back and forths that kept you draw in from the beginning of the book all the way to the end.

Chelsea Jo & Adam met in college, though CJ kept Adam at a distance due to past trauma they knew from the beginning they were meant to be. But when life happens and things don’t go as planned Chelsea finds herself leaving the sweet town of Christmas and not looking back, for a little while at least.

2 years later she is back with a sweet baby boy on her hip that no one can deny is a Casanova. And she is back to have Adam be apart of his life and maybe apart of hers again. Their love story is not without challenges. They both have to grow, they have to learn to communicate and overcome, and ultimately let the past be the past and move forward together in trust and in love.

And the spice🔥 MA’AM! Bedroom Adam is whole different side to this man, and hot diggity dog is it SEXXXXYYYY!! The dirty talk and personal commentary were so good! I freaking loved it!

One thing I love about Carolina’s writing is that her stories would be amazing even without the spice! (I’m not saying take it out because it is GOOOOODDDDD) But her side characters are exceptional and leave you wanting to know their story just as much as the main characters. Her books have a plot and a story line that it follows all the way through, and it draws you in and gets you invested in their lives! The town of Christmas that she has created is somewhere I would actually want to visit!

I am so excited for more of the Casanova Family!
With how sexy, and dirty Adam was I can only imagine how spicy the twins will be, ESPECIALLY Billy🤭

Blurb Said She Had To Learn To Forgive Him But The Misogynist Makes Her Beg Him. Pathetic Display Of Settling For A Shithead Who Fucked Grace a Narcissist, Regularly, So I Cannot Feel For Him

But its an author whose husband is in the military, meaning shes haply when they buy non-Americans, being the World Police.

So naturally she hates women with the same Ferver.

Janet called herself a Brat for having Boundaries with an Older Man rushing her down the aisle.

Fuck I hate Janet, gaslighting her into pretending Adam loves anyone but himself.

Slipping inside Grace "to forget" and its like...but you said he loved her. Why does his neuroplastic tissue not reject other women.

So hes able to fuck Grace really fast.

A year is nothing for genuine heartache.

And he's able to move on really fast.

Wow, I have to spent this entire book watching her crawl back to his emotionally stunted ass over and over.

He never had to grovel, he never had to apologise for continually neglecting her.

Apologies last months of not getting anything back because you denied them a response for years.

But Chelsea take it, like the Good little Anti-Feminist and Misognist that she is.

Omg a loving response would be abortion.

Holy fuck these women just create kids to imprint on and then call themselves feminists.

She had sleepless nights while he was sleeping inside Grace.

Never loved her.

Love is actions.

He just guilted her.

The Biggest Secret is the second full length book in the Casanova series, it is a standalone but I would recommend reading the first book and especially the novella The Biggest Christmas Wedding because there are a lot of parallels throughout the book. After reading the Biggest a Christmas Wedding I was excited to see what had been happening behind the scenes with Chelsea and Adam.

Chelsea left Adam after being together for over a decade because she was tired of coming second to Adam’s job. However she is back in Christmas to make amends and she didn’t come back alone. Adam is shocked to see Chelsea back in his home town, he has never gotten over and when he sees a mini version of himself everything changes.

Adam and Chelsea both had their flaws and they certainly struggled to see them but they never stopped loving each other. It’s clear that they were in love and were not just trying to make it work for their son, they were the real deal they just had to learn how to communicate. They were fun to watch get through their issues and come out stronger in the end. I would happily spend time with AAA any day so Chelsea is a lucky woman!

The book review for The Biggest Secret by Carolina Jax is ready!
Chelsea has returned to the small town where she grew up. She carries with her a little secret: she has a son by her ex, Adam. Chelsea has to decide whether to tell Adam the news or not since her son deserves to know his father and Adam deserves to know his son. She fights with fears that come with telling Adam this news but ultimately decides to tell him. What happens after is nothing short of beautiful! In this book, we get glimpses into how Chelsea and Adam met, how they fell in love, and what led to them falling apart. At times, it does get emotional and it helps to have your tissues at hand. There are times you'll be laughing, and times you'll be giving a standing ovation! This book will make you feel so many emotions at once, and it's what makes this second installment in the Casanova Family series so good! I cannot wait to read the next installment, and see what shenanigans the Casanova family get into next! ❤

I've read the entire Casanova Family Series and I've absolutely loved the sweet small-town world that Jax created. While I say sweet that is not in reference to the heat that she brings when things get spicy. This series is very relatable. It's as if you're getting a front-row seat to an actual real-life drama. Not all romance stories are written that way. While we all love a hot billionaire that sweeps us off our feet, there's something to be said about a blue-collar man that's all in.

I enjoyed this read, and while this book can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend checking out book one and the novella that follows. I can't wait to see where she takes this series.

Tropes include Second Chance, Secret Baby, Small Town, He Falls First and Emotional Scars.

love me some alpha goodness

It was so great to return to Christmas for book 2 of this series! After meeting Adam in book 1, I was quite literally chomping at the bit to get the full scoop from his dominating self. And I was not disappointed!

Adam is the quintessential overbearing alpha male whose tendency to control everything and everyone around him creates issues and hilarity at every turn. And Chelsea. I won’t say too much about her other than I didn’t dislike her in the end.

This is a fabulous edition to the Casanova Family Series. I continue to fall in love with these characters and I can’t wait for more on the Casanova boys. ♥️

Chelsea Jo and Adam Casonova have had a rollercoaster of a romance and their pasts just keep getting themselves stuck in their own way. Thankfully such a great family bond and closeness allows them to be shown what they need to do and work through to their HEA.
I enjoyed the book and loved the family banter and close friendships, Billy was a cracking character as was Billy and loved reading again about Francesca and Jackson and reading a different angle to some of the events that also appeared in The Biggest Win.
Small town, second chance romance and looking forward to reading more about life in the town of Christmas!

This book is a damn rollercoaster, the emotions run high and honestly, it portrays both familial trauma and the pressure of being the eldest child and having to be perfect at everything really good.

Both of the MCs have their faults throughout the book, and they both learn from them and try to redeem themselves while Chelsea also tries to heal from everything in her childhood, which is good.

Both of them deserved so much better and I'm really glad they got their happy ending. I absolutely adore Billy and Adley, they both are amazing side characters and I really hope they both get a book or at least a novella.

Christmas Texas has quickly become my happy place, and these characters have won over my heart! Adam and Chelsea's love story is so beautiful - and maybe a little aggravating because a few times, I just wanted to shake them. And their chemistry is off the charts - this book was like Hallmark and Cinemax all rolled into one, only better....perhaps we could call it HallMax? I'm excited to see what happens next in the lives of the Casanova family!

Loved this book!

Adam Casanova and boy is he a casanova, fiercely protective of his family and anyone he loves. And boy, does he need to be in control of everything. You can not help but fall in love with this character.
Chelsea Jo as issues and likes to run instead of facing them head-on.
This is a second chance romance that is most definitely worth the read. This is book 2 in the series and is just as good if not better than book one Jackson and Francesca 's story.
I can't wait for Tom and Farrahs book.
It's so true what they say. The biggest secrets are always the best!!!

Chelsea Jo and Adam have been in love for years. Though she has childhood neglect of love. She has not gotten over this feeling on not being worthy of love. She thinks everyone leaves eventually. Except this time she is the runner.

Adam is a fixer and a workaholic. He’s always there for us family and his family business, but neglects the one person who loves him for who he is.

When she’s been neglected by Adam for the final time she runs. She just neglected to tell she was taking more than just herself. When she comes back to Candy Cane Key (2 years later), Adam and his family are in for a shock.

Can these 2 lovebirds work out their misgivings and build back their happily ever after? They sure do give it their all trying.

Adam and Chelsea hit it off right away in college. Chelsea’s past keeps her guard up and Adam broody alpha presences and the need to control it all does not help. Chelsea’s insecurities and childhood traumas run deep. Their perfect relationship abruptly ends and now Chelsea is back in Christmas after 2 years with a big big surprise. Can Adam tone down the control and accept the changes? Chelsea and Adam are about to have a rocky ride that ends with a HEA. This Casanova family is always in each others business, but their banter and love for one another is strong. I really enjoyed book 2 of this series! I am eager to read the rest and hear how everyone else's love lives pan out!!

I thought I loved Jackson and Francesca’s book, but this book blew me away. I don’t know what couple is my favorite. Both Adam and Chelsea made bad decisions (but I understand why they did what they did) but love won in the end. Side note - Billy and Adley 😎 That ending was 💯. Run and read this second book in the Casanova series.

Adam and Chelsea’s story was so real and raw. Their characters were nothing short of perfection and explained how so many relationships go through a bunch of hard times but in the end if you really love someone you find your way back to them. I was excited that they had their own story, and loved that this was an HEA - another fantastic story by the amazing Carolina Jax!

So good!

Adam and Chelsea’s love story in The Biggest Secret by Carolina Jax was not easy but it was so good!

Adam and Chelsea met in college and had instant heat between them. Adam was set in his ways, controlling and wanted to do everything for everyone. Chelsea had daddy issues and a rough life growing up, she had a hard time believing anyone would truly stick around for her. Despite all this they loved each other and the chemistry was off the charts. After an another disappointment from Adam Chelsea leaves and doesn’t return for two years and brings home a surprise!

I just love the Cassanova family and the series! The characters are wonderful and the story was great, although, Adam and Chelsea definitely went through it to get to their hea! I recommend for some spice, a hea and a great continued series!

I seriously thought I read this and I’m disappointed i had not yet.

Adam’s story is fantastic with Chelsea. You get to see their last relationship, and present dynamics as they figure out the biggest secret of Adam’s life.

Daddy Adam is hot, Chelsea is running from previous trauma that gives her difficultly trusting.
It was great to catch up with all the previous characters. Definite Must Read!! Surprises at every turn!!

So Tell Me What You Want To Hear...

Why did I wait so long to read Book 2 In the Cassonova Family Series!?! Author Carolina Jax writes such steamy scenes in "The Biggest Secret." They're incredibly hot and balanced with such sweet, touching moments.

Readers may remember Adam, Francesca's brother from The Biggest Secret. He's the one that was always working, and his girlfriend Chelsea was the relationship that was on again and off again. Adam wasn't making Chelsea and their relationship a priority. Chelsea bailed — whereabouts unknown.

We find out she had been pregnant, but now she has returned to town with a one-year-old son -- Adam's son.

Chelsea and Adam have a tumultuous relationship, much of that stem from Chelsea's own from her father growing up. In "The Biggest Secret," readers will see how they both attempt to mend their relationship as new parents and lovers, as past issues still need to get addressed instead of ignored.

"The Biggest Secret" was such an enjoyable read. I do love those brothers! I am very eager to read the stories of Tommy and Billy. Write away, Carolina Jax!

The eldest of the Casanova brothers is absolutely the alpha man you’d expect him to be & constantly taking care of those around him. I've been waiting and waiting (impatiently) for this book, and let me tell you. It did NOT disappoint.

Adam is the bossy big brother of the Casanova family, and he revels in taking care of his family. When he's not taking care of them, he's working. All. The. Time. The one person he neglects is the one person he can't live without. After all, she'll still be there waiting for him when he gets around to her, right? Not so fast there, buddy.

Chelsea, oh, Chelsea! What are we going to do with you? Chelsea has severe abandonment issues, and when Adam blows her off one more time, she's had enough and just leaves town. She's tired of being way down on his list of priorities, and when she finds out that she's having his baby, she can't bear the thought of him treating her precious little one the same way.

So, she stays away. For two years. 🫣 Carolina Jax did such a wonderful job of taking you deep inside Chelsea's mind, and as a reader, I really felt for her. Being neglected by all the men in her life has left her with scars on her soul, so I totally got her point of view. Did she handle things perfectly? Of course not, but she was doing what she thought was right at the time. Not just due to Adam not prioritizing her, but also because of another issue which fed directly into her insecurities. And ohhhh, that part is juicy, y'all!!!

When Chelsea does come back, things really heat up. She and Adam have never had problems in the bedroom. Or in the kitchen. Or the shower. THAT part of their relationship was juuuuust fine. That man is so freaking dominant and alpha that I found myself wanting to drop to my knees every time he growled at her. I mean, we're talking next-level!

Ms. Jax knows how to turn up the heat, and by God, this book is a damn furnace. I literally couldn't stop reading it. I do love a spicy book, but I also love emotions, and this book was FULL of them. I laughed. I cried. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor a couple times.

I thought I would be angrier at both main characters because they both screw up a lot, but this author's amazing ability to make me FEEL what her characters feel shows what a talented writer she is. She gave me perspective and pulled me directly into her story to the point that my heart actually ached at times while reading. Every angsty moment, I was there for. 100%

Watching Chelsea and Adam battle betrayal, insecurities, and interference was so worth it because in the end, there is love. SO. MUCH. LOVE.

Carolina Jax, keep writing because I'm a huge fan. This was my favorite book of yours so far, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Also, send me an Adam. Please.

I couldnt wait to see how this one panned out having seen glimpses of them in the biggest win and the biggest christmas wedding. I would suggest reading them before this one, even though you dont have to,but you will get a bigger picture.
