An undersized winged fae, all Rhiya wants is to join her peers in a true Spartan phalanx. So when her clan’s leader asks her to act as emissary for the Winter Solstice celebration, she accepts the challenge, hoping it will prove she is mature enough to enter the academy for training.
An uncomplicated job for Evander, celebrated general of the Northern Isles, turns into a security nightmare. The Winter Solstice was supposed to be a simple party — a chance to unite the surrounding courts after a drawn-out, century-long war. But there is nothing simple about the feisty ambassador, Rhiya. From the moment she stumbles through his portal, Evander can’t stop thinking about the safety risk she poses.
That’s the only reason he watches her so closely.
Except every time their paths collide, she opens her pert mouth, and he forgets all his responsibilities.
Wind Borne is an action-packed, steamy fae romance perfect for those who are pressed for time and crave spice in their adventures. It’s a stand-alone novella featuring a too-serious hero, a scrappy heroine, and a happily-for-now. Set in the same world as the Faeblood series, it’s an exciting glimpse into the dawn of Morvak.
MK is the leading authority on nothing. Nada. Zip, zero, zilch.
A healthcare worker by day and an introvert by night, MK escapes the daily grind though romance novels and youth sports. When she's not writing or working or drinking too much coffee, MK is loosely parenting her four kids (who are convinced she was put on this earth to embarrass them), her two fluffy pups, and one giant moose-cat. The rest of the time she is trying to convince her other half that they need goats. And chickens. MK lives in the armpit of the Midwest with her partner-in-crime and their crazy circus.
Smaller on the fairy side, Rhiya has to make up for it with her other gifts. One of those gifts is that she is a talented Bladesmith. Powerful female alert! All she wants to do is to join her fellow Spartan warriors, but alas her queen has other ideas. Sent as an emissary to the Northern Isles during the Winter Solstice, she hopes this will be her chance to prove herself. When she arrives she’s arrested by the guardian of the portals and things spin from there. I loved my first peak into this world, and excited to have a new-to-me author under my belt, and to add a little more fantasy to my reading. This story is spicy, romantic, has great world building and I never felt lost within this new world.

Amazing short story! Loved that this was in the same world as the faeblood series but in a different time. We get a glimpse of the few kingdoms post Great War when the fae still had wings and much more powerful magic. This would be a good place to start reading to get a feel for MKL’s style. Rhiya and Evander were such an amazing contrasting combination. Petite winged spitfire and stubborn shadow daddy. So much ground was covered in just 56 pages! I hope to see more from this timeline within the world of the faeblood.
This book was the perfect quick read. It’s a short book but you still get a few spicy scenes and a chance to connect a little with the characters. I do hope there is more to this world and that we get to see more of Rihya and her spartan journey!
You won’t regret reading this one but you can join me on impatiently waiting to see if there is more to come!

Rating 🌟🌟🌟 (a fun read with liable characters) Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ (less than 3 intimate scenes)
Overall this book took me about an hour and half to read and it was a fun little read!
I do wish it had been a little bit longer and that there were more scenes with Rhiya & Evander, showing how their relationship evolved!
Rhiya is our pint sized female MC who dreams of being a warrior, however due to being small, is never called up for training. She is sent as a representative of her court, to help smooth out new alliances.
That's where she need Evander, tall, moody, handsome and swimming in shadows (quite literally). It's not long before they become drawn to each other.
I can't say much about emotional connection, because I didn't feel like I really got the chance to connect with them. This being said I think Rhiya could be a totally kick ass FMC, and that little move she pulled at dinner had me grinning like the Cheshire cat! She's my kinda girl!
Hopefully this won't be last we hear of them because I certainly need to read more!
I did not purchase this book and was given a copy for an honest review.
omg ... let me just say this book took me an hour and a half to read ... would of been quicker if i hadnt had house work to do lol .. but i loved it , its one of those books that is short enough to read in a day .. or an hour .. which is why i choose it as one of my 31 books to read this month .
you follow Rhiya on her quest to be a spartan warrior in her kingdom as her parents were ,. but has a talent for blacksmithing too .. one that beats anyone in her kingdom ... she has been told by her aunt who she lives with to go to another kingdom as an emissary to the Northern isles ... at first she didnt want this , but as time goes on as you will see ,.. im not gona give to much away ,. but its exciting and wonderful .. i loved the characters of her and evander , and the queen of the northern isles too .. also youd think that such a small book wouldnt have good world building but it does ... im pleased to say .. the quests shes on soon changes when her life is envoloped with more to think about than her job as a emissary .
I want to start off this review with a thank you to BookSirens for this arc!
Trigger warning? Nope! Safety? Neither the FMC or MMC are virgins. It’s mentioned that the MMC has way more sexual experience than the FMC. No OW/OM after meeting (no one was mentioned anyway). Any extra notes? This was a novella, and with being short it was also enjoyable. The world building was easy to follow. The little blue monkey type of animal was really cute to read about. The love story was a bit light even with this being a novella, and I couldn’t fully tell what the FMC and MMC had in common besides instant attraction for each other? Even with that the epilogue was 3 weeks out from the last chapter, and it showed them reuniting after being apart. The spice was written well(I enjoyed it anyways). I would say their story ends in a HFN. Wind Borne did leave me interested in other books by this author!

Hands down to the Author for this phenomenal read. I love a good fantasy/world building novella and this one hit the mark for me, along with the beautiful cover!
The only thing our main character, Rhiya, wants is to be accepted and join with her peers as a true and dedicated warrior but the Clan offers another task, where she meets Evander, who watches Rhiya like a hawk.
I enjoyed the world building and the characteristic of the two, but I feel like a short story can only give you so much in relations to the characters having chemistry and the story going on too fast to process what just happened. I really hope this story gets the reviews it needs for the author to continue the storyline.

All her life Rhiya has had to work hard developing her skill as a black smith because of her small size. Never able to follow in her mothers’ footsteps as a warrior she is sent as an emissary to another kingdom where she meets a man who ruffles more than just her feathers.
This book is a short refreshing novella great for after a long series or to break a reading slump. A fiery pixie meets the captain of shadows. Filled with spicy banter and lovely chemistry between the characters.
This book is a peak into the world of a series that the author is currently writing. I do wish this book was longer because I love the world the author writes and I felt like it just wasn’t enough. I binged it in an afternoon.
Well, I'm not sure what this was. I mostly enjoyed it I suppose but it wasn't a book. Being in the middle of a rushed story with no real plot, no introduction or background to the world or characters was odd. The relationship was creepy…? It had no development. It started with him detaining her, moved to him touching her out of the blue then ended with some awkward, domineering sex. All in 65 pages. It moved so quickly and sporadically that I had to reread bits to see if I missed something. Everything felt forced.
Do I think this author could write something? Yes. Absolutely. But there's so little effort here I can't, in good conscience, recommend it.

This was a very short novella - I read the entire thing while my baby was napping. It felt like a nice little snack in between the longer books I normally read. I liked the main characters, and I wish this had been a full length novel so that I could have spent more time with them.
The author has a good flow to her writing and the ✨vibes✨ were good overall. I took off some stars because things jumped around a bit too much for my liking and there wasn’t enough interaction between the MMC and MFC for me, even for a novella. But overall, I really did enjoy this book!
I received this advance review copy for free for a honest review. This was a fun, quick read that left me wanting more! I love that I was immersed so fast. Rhiya just wants to make her family proud, and honor her mother’s legacy. I also love that she’s not a teenager! And Evander… phew, I love a broody, overprotective man (or fae in this case). Their bond is nearly instant. He’s not afraid to get close and show her bits of affection. But, he’s also willing to tell her he’s not in charge; she is. It definitely left me wanting more of their story! I’d love to see another installment of their story, and how they navigate their obligations and relationship worlds apart.

This is a delightful little novella. Magical and enchanting.
An easy-to-read page-turner that has you hooked from the start.
I loved this steamy fantasy romance.
I finished it much too quickly and wished there was just a little more.
If you are a romance and fantasy buff you will love this seductive tale.

This is very short for me, but it was a good story that I enjoyed! Rhyia is a good character that kept me interested in what happened in this quick read. All said, i feel that this was a good Fae story and I Loved It!!! No Spoilers!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
An enjoyable read. It felt like the romance happened really fast and there wasn’t a lot of build up to it. They went from, enjoying each others company, to, I can’t live without you, in the space of a chapter. The fantasy element was done well but the romance really suffered. This was a quick and easy little read. A bit of action, and a bit of steam, perfect with a glass of wine. The world it was set in is super interesting and I could follow these characters through a full-length novel or even a series!

That was a weird read. I know it was only a novella, but I legit could not figure out how we got from point a to point b here. Despite that, I’m intrigued by the spicy ending and think I’ll try the full-length first book.

I received the ARC copy of this book today and I think I have found a new author to add to my must reads list! This book had the perfect mix of fantasy, magic, kingdoms and romance. Although it was only a short novella, the character development was exceptional, and plot moved perfectly.
I read this entire thing in less than 30 minutes. it was a quick and easy fantasy romance book. I would have loved to see more of the world they were in, but you can not really do that in 65 pages. I think this is the perfect novella for fantasy romance lovers.
Great quick romance read… it seemed really short! Catching intro, slow build up, romance as the bulk, and ending with detailed spiciness! Wished their was more of a plot to go with the story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The world building was great. Excellent attempt at a short story with awesome characters. Although it was intriguing, the character building could have been better. It felt a bit rushed. The message of the story was admirable.

I had really high hopes for this to be great and I think it could still be great if it were re written and had an editor that fought for this to be great.
The story from my understanding is of a woman who dreams of being a warrior but has been reduced to blacksmithing (which she has talent). She’s sent to be the emissary at another kingdom and immediately leaves. Meets the love interest and it’s not love at first sight. Things happen really fast from here and without any explanation or detail of progression. She gets there, they have a misunderstanding, then there is a festival and they’re suddenly in love. No transition whatsoever. They swap gifts and the story basically ends. There is an epilogue which is basically an intimate scene, again lacking of any context. I had to go back and reread scenes a couple of times to be sure I didn’t miss something because of the confusion with how this story is paced.
For a 7 chapter + epilogue book, the progression is probably as expected. However, this had a really good opening scene and a really good idea that just wasn’t executed well. I would say this could be a hit if the authors actually built out the story, the journey from a to b to c.
