Rate this book
Famed for the accuracy of their astronomy and the sophistication of their measurement of time, the ancient Mayan civilization has been recognized as one of the most important ever to have existed. According to recently decoded stone monuments and manuscripts the Mayans believed a cataclysmic change will affect the planet on 22 December 2012.On this date the fifth great cycle of time which began on August 11th 3113 BCE will come to a violent end. In this comprehensive book, expert author David Douglas presents compelling evidence for the accuracy of the Mayan calendar in predicting major events in world history and examines the latest scientific research that suggests events such as magnetic field changes and solar flares will indeed culminate in 2012; events which could result in catastrophe for our planet. Steve Alten is one my favourite authros. This trilogy is very unique and very imaginative. Altin uses real life circumstances of life that considered to be quackery, he has also used Erich von Dänikens theories which is far more interesting than Stephen Hawkins theories.
Steve is a very eloquent writer also, that combined with his imagination makes for an entertaining read.
I very much liked the characters he created in this book, especially Lillith. I enjoyed spotting the myths he uses to bring into the reality of his story.

For anyone looking for introductory course on the Mayans and all known myths surrounding them should start here. David Douglas does a good job of bringing together many theories from experts of all walks of life to give you a look into the Mayan Prophecy approaching Dec. 21st, 2012. The Mayans are presented in a way that proves they weren't primitive people but fine observers of space and nature..
