About the author

Years after receiving my Criminal Justice degree from the University of Oklahoma , I discovered the
historical romance genre. True legends like M.M Kaye, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Judith McNaught, and
Penelope Williamson, sparked my love for writing and convinced me I wanted only to do one thing in
my life and that was to create great stories alive with grit and passion.

In the past, I've written westerns for Leisure under Lori Morgan and Pirate adventure books for Berkley
under Laura Renken. My books have been five times reviewer nominated by Romantic Times
Bookclub for Best Adventure and Best Historical Suspense and Gothic categories. They have won the
Holt Medallion twice, the WISRWA Writer's Choice Award, the Affaire de Couer reader's Choice award
and will be published in five foreign languages worldwide. My Lord Pirate, was a 1999 Golden Heart
Finalist, which launched my publishing career with Berkley.


I live in the Chicago area where I am also the former president for the Windy City RWA chapter.
Currently, I pen stories for AVON/HarperCollins under my name, Melody Thomas. Wild and Wicked in
Scotland, the first book in my new Charmed and Dangerous series appeared on shelves January
2007. The second book, Sin and Scandal in England, was an Avon October 2007 release. Passion

Another winner from Melody---this book is definitely 4 and 1/2 stars. What kept it from being a 5 star is there wasn't quite enough interaction between H/h in the first third of the book and though the dialogue between the two was witty there wasn't quite enough of it. Oh, but Erik could almost (I said, almost) rival Michael from It Must Have Been the Moonlight (who is my all time fav hero). She sure knows how to write a hero.

Had to push & push myself to finish this book -- it kept skirting the DNF line. Female paleontologist is heroine, which gives it another angle, but the writing & storyline didn't work for me. And why oh why would there be fossils in a volcanic complex? Geesh--fails the geonerd test of authenticity.

This untraditional romance starts ten years AFTER our main characters hook up and break up. Wrapped up in an archeological murder mystery, this story explores for what people will sell their souls...in a light, romance-y, happy ending sort of way. It was refreshing to have a leading lady so oblivious to social convention and a hero smart enough to appreciate it. I do wonder, however, how accurate the archeology and paleontology ideas are. Still, all in all, a good read.

The author did a truly outstanding job! Melody Thomas has a remarkable way of writing that keeps me wanting to read more. This was a great romance with a twist of a magic ring, a dragon, a mystery murder, and a beautiful love story. Melody Thomas is definitely a one click buy author! I have several of her books and love all of them!

I skimmed practically the entire book. It seemed to get better at the end, but there was way too much going on. Let me list it in order: an independent female palaeontologist, dinosaur bones, a dangerous Duke who likes to say “fook” instead of the other f work, references to the the affair they had 10 years ago that the main character Christine (!) thought about a lot for the first third of the book and then never referred to again, a school for girls, a magic ring, and an eccentric aunt. They they get married and move to Scotland where there’s a young sister, estranged mother, half deaf, almost wild or fey daughter, an evil neighbour (who is having an affair with the mother?!), a jealous sister of the Duke’s second wife who may have been murdered by the duke, a charge of bigamy, attempted murder (twice at least), and an amazing fossil discovery - it is the beats in the title or is it the Duke?! 😛Then they have four children and the extended family ends up reconciling. That was fun to write all that down! Straight into the donation bin in goes, but it was on the free table at the library so that’s fine with me. I really just picked it up for the main character’s name!

It’s been a while since I have read such an engaging HR book. I am not a paleontologist so I don’t claim to know if all the terminology was correct, and it was slightly bothersome that Erik was married twice before, however I felt the story overall made up for any deficiencies that might normally bother me. Perhaps because they had a relationship 10 years prior, and while we don’t know for sure what would have happened if Christine knew Erik had offered for her, it is likely she could have turned him down. So hard to blame him for going on with his life and marrying, especially as her life also went on but in a scientific research way instead of marriage. I enjoyed the growth in their relationship, as well as the mystery that finally gets solved in the end. I’m always a big fan of intelligent heroines who are not in need of saving, and I definitely believe Christine fit the bill.

The premise was so interesting, but the execution of it was a bit of a let down. I love a historical romance not set solely in glittering ballrooms and the author does caves and labs very well, but sadly the romance was severely lacking. I’m not sure it was ever explained why they originally parted for one thing and the other thing being a lack of spark. The love scenes I actually thought detracted from the story so much that I wish they weren’t in the book. They were so stilted and awkward. This book didn’t really work for me, but maybe fans of mythology, mystery, and paleontology might enjoy it.

one of the worst book I read

This book 📕 is the second book that I read of Mrs Thomas and I feel dissatisfied because was great. The characters are bad. I can I understands how much I dissatisfied with this I not do find any that the story for was boring e everything is about the couple their arguments about the expedition she is happy she thins she is one who should that only speak about she is the qualify for the job. No more dialogue sorry si can’t have more stars ⭐️.

The whole book I had the feeling there were parts of the story missing
Things happenend suddenly or abrupt it seemed. It is possible that's the fault of the translator but it didn't make it an enjoyable read, and that while it had so much potential.

Loved!

I really enjoyed this book. I already want to reread this story. I had a very hard time putting this book down. It made me laugh. It made me cry. This storytelling by Melody Thomas was love, second chances, and of course a bit of murder mystery. Thanks you Melody Thomas!

After ten years, Christine is shocked to see the one man that showed her passion and love, but ended their young courtship to marry someone else. Christine, now recently losing her father, has taken over her father's work and over the past ten years has dedicated herself to the work as a Paleontologist. Erik comes to her with a proposal, that there is a marvelous find on his land that she can't resist, since it is part of her dream of being taken seriously as a scientists, however she must agree to marry Erik first. Christine is shocked,, knowing that she could easily fall in love with him again, but his offer is too tempting for her to resist. Christine after marrying Erik, starts to realize that her feelings for him never died, that they are starting to come alive once more, but begins to doubt whether or not he will hurt her again like he did before...Beauty and the Duke is the first installment in the Mystical Bliss series written by Melody Thomas. I haven't read too many books by this author, but the books that I have read from her I have fallen in love with. She has such a way about the way she writes and entices the reader. The characters in this story are deeply portrayed throughout the whole of the plot.There was one thing I didn't like about this book, was that the issue of what happened between them ten years previous, in their interaction with each other, they never really resolved it, and I was a bit disappointed however despite that I found Beauty and the Duke to be mysterious and a sensational read, where history becomes alive for the reader. I loved the witty interaction between Erik and Christine, and as a whole was a memorable romance!!

What a sweet and amazing read.

Christine is a pretty, caring and smart woman. She likes to use her brain and gets annoyed when men get upset that a woman is smarter. She has tried to shine to prove her worth but keeps getting passed over for a man! The unfairness of it all! Her career and dreams of a major find are all that is left to her since her love married another all those years ago. She has closed herself off from love.

So you can imagine her shock when she comes face to face with Erik after all these years. She still feels hurt and betrayed, but he is a handsome devil so resisting those feelings he envokes is hard. And he offers what could be the find of the century in his backyard, if she can be brave enough to grab it. She thinks she can resist the pull she still feels and take what she wants....

Erik maybe handsome and rich but he soon realizes what a terrible hurt he inflicted to Chrissy by marrying another and then another. Hoping for a better outcome this time around he does his darnest to win her over.

Amid all this love play, Chrissy is still trying to prove herself by finding his dead wife's body and solving the mystery of the dragons! But someone or something is trying to stop them.

So we have passion, danger, mystery, and dragons!!!!! This was a well written passionate read but also just a joy to read.....and fun!

It got better about 1/2 through the book. I liked how the MC wasn't a sap and the hero, while dominant in his own way, did everything for the MC even when she didn't know it. It closed up fairly fast after a few of the plot questions were cleared up.

Enjoyed reading this book even if the ending petered out somewhat. I liked the interaction between Eric and Christine. The Beast was not such a beast and the beauty was not such a beauty but an independent miss who loved her beast.
