A Tent for Two

Rate this book
When Miles goes camping with his best friend, Beckett, there’s just one problem: Miles forgot his sleeping bag.

The simple solution would be to share with Beckett, but Beckett hates skin-contact. Even the prospect of sharing a tent with Miles makes Beckett flustered and he dismisses the idea immediately. Which is fine. Miles can respect the boundaries of their friendship.

But their camping trip turns out to be full of surprises. Beckett’s been hiding a few secrets from Miles, one of which is that he doesn’t always hate skin-contact, not in certain situations, not with certain people. But the biggest surprise of all will come when Miles realises just how he feels about his best friend Beckett.

A Tent for Two is a 27,000 word MM new adult romance novella featuring the friends-to-lovers trope.

Note: contains explicit tent sex & an extremely oblivious main character.

Oh, my my my! This book is about two things; one is that it’s about a couple of bros being dudes, and two is that it’s about a couple of dudes being bros. Oh, also there’s only one bed… er sleeping bag! Who knows what’ll happen next!? Just kidding, you know it, I know it, we all know it. This story basically has every trope under the stars and everything that happens in the book is pretty much implied by the title… and yet I still loved this. It kind of reminded me of those old Hatchet survival books. Only sprinkle some gayness on the story and I’d say that’s a recipe for success.

“Miles had never witnessed Beckett ever so much as throw his controller when playing video games.”

They’ve clearly never played Mario Kart together. Also, I liked how there was no epilogue. Thank you to every book with no epilogue!

It was ok for a short story. Miles is completely oblivious and Beckett talks in riddles. It's cute at first, but gets a bit awkward later on. I wasn't a fan of the intimate scenes.

edit 4/17/24: miles whining and trying to convince beckett to share his tent and therefore bed with him while beckett’s all like ‘i like my space’ and and miles is all ‘but what if u get married, you’d have to share a bed then’ and beckett is all ‘well that’d be totally different than sharing a bed with a friend no?’ and miles is all lowkey depressed thinking:

“He felt silly for saying something so obvious. Of course, it’d be different if Beckett was married. He’d curl around his spouse, keeping their back warm, and tangle his legs with theirs. That was the kind of thing Beckett would only do with someone he was in love with—someone who made him forget all about his dislike of skin contact.”

AND THEN BECKETT PROCEEDS TO DO ALL THOSE THINGS WITH MILES AND IT GOES RIGHT OVER MILES’ HEAD💀💀💀 miles, you stupid, adorable lil goofball😍😍😍

i still want books for ryan & callum and addison & wesley and i have a sick feeling that will never happen😔😔

edit 12/27/23: oh did i need something goofy and sweet. i knew i could count on miles and beckett, the adorable little idiots, to give me exactly that😌

miles’ thoughts directly after getting jealous that beckett used to kiss and touch other people that weren’t miles in the past:

“He wasn’t jealous either. It wasn’t as if he had romantic feelings for Beckett. Beckett was simply his best friend, his favorite person. And yes, Beckett was ridiculously attractive, and yes, Miles did like touching him, and yes, Beckett’s presence made Miles feel peaceful in a way he felt with no one else, but that didn’t mean Miles wanted Beckett in that way.”

oh miles, you sweet, sweet dummy….😂

original 10/17/23: yes miles is the dumbest genius ever and so what ???? is the turnaround time from miles’ brain being lost in space to saying i love you to beckett a bit wild ??? yes and ????? i read few reviews for this and the main complaint was miles’ OTT obliviousness levels, which i love, so that’s how i immediately knew this book was for me😂😂 and it DELIVERED!!!!!!!😍😍😍

i mean just listen to miles:

“And when he said jealous, he meant it in a totally normal way, the way anyone would feel if they found out their best friend had fallen in love. Not because the thought of Beckett kissing someone else, touching someone else, holding someone else’s hand made Miles feel sick. No. Not at all.”

riiiiiiight miles that does sounds totally normal and not at all like you want beckett to be in love with you and have his attention totally on you, you, only you😏😏 i mean miles even thought about how he didn’t want to date and he didn’t want beckett to date bc they’d spend less time together and that would totally be the worst thing to ever happen ever bc miles wanted to spend all his time with beckett and wanted beckett to want to do the same🤭🤭🤭🤭

“‘When I said I was jealous, that was the truth. But I’m more than just a tiny, tiny bit jealous. I hate the idea of you liking anyone more than me, and I know this makes me sound a little psycho and a lot possessive, but I want you all to myself.’”😍😍🫶🫶😩😩

ughhhh so delicious!!!!!😏😏🥰🥰 and can we talk about how sweet their first time was???

“Miles brushed his fingers over Beckett’s cheek, held his face, stared at those hazel eyes that had always been so soft, so disarming. ‘You’re so beautiful,’ Miles whispered. ‘Miles,’ Beckett said, voice sounding as if it were breaking. ‘I love you.’ It was quieter than a whisper, quieter than a breath, barely audible. But he knew Beckett heard.”

SCREAMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!😩😩😩😩🥺🥺🥺🥺 imagine me passed out and ascended bc that’s exactly what it feels like…..this is definitely going in my hall of fame🫶

also their four other friends…..kinda seemed like there was a set up for a ryan & callum and addison & wesley to both get their own books and plsssss plsssss tell me that’s still happening???🙏🙏🙏

A Tent for Two is the result of adding the most oblivious character, only one sleeping bag and a poor best friend who is running out of ways to explain to Mr Oblivious he’s in love with him. The consequence is an angsty, highly unrealistic romance that made this fan of unrequited-love very happy.

This has been compared to Leo Loves Aries, which I adored, and it’s literally that in novella format and extra of smut. In case you hadn’t met Theo Wallace, I wouldn’t recommend this if you are not into unrealistically oblivious characters whose only function is to make you the other hero suffer. I preferred the slow burn of Leo Loves Aries over the smut here, but it was still a solid read.

“Is there someone you like?”
“Yeah,” he said after a moment.
“You should tell her,” Miles said. “Or him. Them.”
Beckett sighed.

"You’re my best friend, and I’m kind of obsessed with you, Miles thought."

Hopelessly adorable and oblivious. Milana Spencer's writing has improved a lot, well done. I am still gonna continue to read this series for the other cute characters that were mentioned. Looking forward to it👍

So yeah, this delivers exactly what the title promises. No surprises anywhere in this quite trope heavy novella.

But still. This was so sweet. This was so hot ❤️‍🔥 The amount of obliviousness was a bit much, ngl, and went on for a bit too long. But I just love an oblivious MC, what can I say, so I didn’t mind.
I think that was also the best written thing of the author I’ve read so far.
Very good times were had, I’m sure I’ll reread this when I need a sweet and steamy little palate cleanser.

A Tent for Two is a short and hot novella featuring an adorably oblivious Miles, his forgotten sleeping bag, and sharing a tent with his best friend Beckett for warmth.

The author did a great job with the character development in such a short page count. Miles and Beckett's history and friendship was fully realised and added so much to the story and the moment they got together. Also, the sex scenes were *chef's kiss*.

I think there's going to be two more books in this series following two sets of their friends. I can't see any mention of the sequel on here or author's website so hopefully it's still coming and the wait isn't too long.

the mc is a dumb stupid idiot but I say that affectionately

this had best friends to lovers with an oblivious mc and a love interest who has been obviously pining for them the whole time… like I couldn’t not enjoy this.

“Since it’ll be so cold at night, we should share a tent. And maybe a sleeping bag too. And maybe… sleep together?”

Aaaaaah these two are the cutest!
A Tent For Two is probably my fave by Milana Spencer. A sweet & spicy friends to lovers novella, with an oblivious cutie pie and his best friend that’s absolutely in love with him. Pining, sexy first times, cuddles and camping.

“I want to see you come,” Miles said without thinking. “I want to see you come all over your hand.”

Hot. As. Fuck. 116 pages of giggles and blushing and kicking my feet.

Hadn’t Beckett learned by now? Miles wanted to see everything.

This was weird and somehow the plot didn’t fit right for me. I mean, it was said that Miles and Beckett have been friends for years, best friends even. But when they went on that camping trip, everything felt like they were only casual acquaintances. They didn’t seem tight at all. THEY WERE AWKWARD AS HELL WITH EACH OTHER!!!!

And on that note it felt weird and I felt uncomfortable at how Miles came onto Beckett with the whole let’s share a tent, let’s share a sleeping bag because I all but forgot like everything to keep me warm at a night of camping. I don’t know. I mean, the romance was sweet and hot nonetheless later but it didn’t fit the narrative. I was confused A LOT with this.

I won’t get into Miles’ obliviousness bc everybody else did that already.

Maybe it's because my expectations weren't high, but I had fun reading how Miles and Beckett slowly got closer during their camping trip.

Miles might be the most clueless MC I've encountered so far (even Anyta Sunday's MCs aren't this clueless, lol).

I really liked this friends to lovers gay romance novella taking place entirely in lovely Wilson's Prom, a fabulous National Park on the southernmost part of mainland Australia. Having camped there myself and experiencing this beautiful place added to my enjoyment of the story. Medical students and best friends Miles and Beckett go camping on their own when a few other friends bail at the last moment. Even though they each have their own tents, Miles has forgotten to bring his sleeping bag, even in summer it can get cold at night in Victoria. Well written by Milena Spencer. I like her writing and style.

Obliviousness, thy name is Miles 🤣

Miles’ best friend is Beckett. They’ve planned a camping trip with their friends, but ended up being alone - and not only that, but Miles forgot his sleeping bag.

So yeah. Cliché, I know. But what made it stand out from a sea of “forgot my sleeping bag/need your body warmth” romances, was one of the most oblivious characters in the history of mm romance: Miles is not only unaware of Beckett’s feelings for him, he doesn’t realise that his own feelings are far from platonic, too.

Let me illustrate that with some quotes:

As for Beckett—well, the strange thing about Beckett was that Miles had never witnessed him ever flirt with a girl before.
(…)
Miles sank back into the hoodie. It was a lot warmer now. “It smells like you.”
Beckett tensed, ever so slightly.
“Sorry.”
“No, no. It smells good.”
Something flittered over Beckett’s lips, so quick it was almost imperceptible. Miles saw it though: the pleased smile.
(…)
“You don’t have to do everything all the time,” Beckett said. “To be honest, I like being the expert. It means I get to look after you. Which is nice, because most of the time, I’m trying to catch up to you.”
(…)
Beckett was simply his best friend, his favorite person. And yes, Beckett was ridiculously attractive, and yes, Miles did like touching him, and yes, Beckett’s presence made Miles feel peaceful in a way he felt with no one else, but that didn’t mean Miles wanted Beckett in that way.
(…)
“How… how do you know the difference between platonic and romantic feelings?” Beckett exhaled.
“You want to kiss him, for one,” he replied after a moment. “You want to touch him. You want to look after him. You want to comfort him when he’s upset. You want to make him laugh. You want to fall asleep with him in your arms. You want to walk with him, even if you don’t talk about anything, because you simply enjoy the presence of him beside you. You want to take him to watch the sunset. You want to warm up his hands when they’re cold because he forgot his sleeping bag.”

Very sweet, very wholesome, a cover to die for- and a lot of fun to read 🥰

One quiet best friend has been secretly pining forever. The other? Oblivious and way too touchy for his own good. They go camping. There's only one sleeping bag—of course. The tension builds, the pining starts to slip out, but the oblivious one still has no clue. Then something happens—something intense—and they kiss like their lives depend on it. And maybe they do. What follows? Hot-as-hell tent sex that’s been a long time coming. Tender, electric, absolutely worth the wait.

The end (but also the beginning).**

Beckett pulled back and thrust in again and again, slow and steady, the tip of his cock hitting that spot deep inside Miles that made him shiver with pleasure. The entire time, he kept his eyes intently on Miles’s.
“Kiss me,” Miles demanded, but with the way he was moaning, it probably sounded more like a plea.
Beckett obeyed, his lips soft, his tongue like a caress. Miles brushed his fingers over Beckett’s cheek, held his face, stared at those hazel eyes that had always been so soft, so disarming.
“You’re so beautiful,” Miles whispered.
“Miles,” Beckett said, voice sounding as if it were breaking.
“I love you.” It was quieter than a whisper, quieter than a breath, barely audible. But he knew Beckett heard.

Sweet, but short. the third person single pov was a bit confusing in the beginning.

Miles + Beckett 🖤
Friends | Completely oblivious | Pining

It all started with Miles the complete oblivious idiot who had all his camping supplies in one garbage bag, including his clothes and books, but somehow didn't remember his sleeping bag. He's embarrassed to tell Beckett, but eventually, he finds out, they end up sharing a tent using the one sleeping bag as a blanket. Feelings come closer to the surface. Beckett was so obviously into Miles from the beginning, but Miles was a dummy. He even asked Beckett to share his fantasies of this secret crush he had but picked up on none of it 🤦‍♀️. The obliviousness was basically its own plot.

Tropes/content:
Friends to lovers
Oblivious to the max
One-sided pining
First times
Camping
One tent
One sleeping bag
Mutual jerk off to "help themselves sleep" that turned into more
Swimming
Hand holding and cuddles while "only friends"

Miles's obliviousness was next level.

This is a very straightforward friends to lovers with the added bonus of one bed or in this case one tent. Miles is very much not perceptive of the awkwardness of Beckett and how he reacts to every little thing Miles says or does.

Since this is a single POV we are only aware of what Miles is thinking or not thinking as he takes like 85% of the book to catch up to what was happening. This was cute and hot and very funny overall.

Miles is the cutest, most clueless character in this. He’s actually frustratingly completely oblivious which is why I have taken one star off my rating.

Beckett is adorable though and that young, unrequited love is a trope that I really enjoy so I read this one super quickly.

A realisation of feelings, first time sex and two exploring characters all make for a great novella. X

Miles is a total obliviot but he's very endearing and willing, maybe even a bit too eager to have sex with a man for the first time. That said it seems he's been unknowingly stewing on this idea for longer than he was willing to admit so I give it a pass.

Their sex scenes together are electric, and even before that you can feel the chemistry between them.

This worked especially well as a single POV, and I think Beckett's obvious longing for Miles is well conveyed while still leaving enough room for doubt for Miles' position to be understandable.

I'd have loved an epilogue, as is I feel like we're left hanging. I'd assume it's because the author will at least be mentioning these characters as the other couples in the friend group form...but this came out 18 months ago and none of those have been published yet so. Yeah.

A couple typos but nothing another round of proofing wouldn't fix.

What a sweet story. Both Miles and Beckett were so young and Milana Spencer’s writing reflected that so well. It was wonderful to follow along as they slowly discovered how much they cared for each other. My only complaint was I didn’t want it to end yet.
