Lydie Beauchamp recently moved with her aunts—sisters Myrtle and Fern—to the untamed Wyoming Territory. When a teaching position in nearby Willow Falls captures her attention, can she leave her aunts, one of whom just suffered a broken heart, and embark on this new adventure? Will she find the courage to persevere in the midst of challenges, one being a handsome challenge named Solomon Eliason?
Reverend Solomon Eliason has the goal of making a difference. Hired as the pastor of Willow Falls, he must convince the congregation that he is able to undertake the role of a reverend. When he’s nominated to be the adult in charge of the annual prank tradition at the school, he embraces the idea, thinking the new teacher will be an elderly crotchety woman like his former teacher. What he doesn’t realize until it’s too late is that the teacher is far from crotchety and elderly.
When Lydie's and Solomon’s paths cross in an unexpected way during the prank tradition at the Willow Falls school, can Solomon redeem himself in the eyes of the lovely new teacher?
Take a glimpse into where it all began with Lydie and Solomon's story in this tender tale that reminds us that God can and does use willing hearts for His purposes.

What a sweet beginning to the Wyoming Sunrise series!
Love's New Beginnings introduces the reader to Lydie and Solomon, who are integral secondary characters in the novel, Forgotten Memories. Following Zeller's delightful, customary writing style of faith, humor, and romance, the reader is treated to a novella that will repeatedly make them go, "awww!"
The characters are darling. I empathized with Lydie and Solomon is just a sweetheart. I enjoyed learning about how their arcs were formed and how they were molded into the way they are in FM. There is a well-formed string of secondary characters too. Some will make you snort in amusement. Others will have you eyeing them and wondering if they'll ever come around. And there are a few who will make you want to crack a slate over their heads Anne-of-Green-Gables style.
The plot is sweet. We follow Lydie and Solomon through a hilarious misunderstanding, their insecurities, and their attempts to settle into a Wild West town.
The setting is well-done too. I could picture myself on the stagecoach (though I was grateful I wasn't actually on the stagecoach), at the school, in the town, and so forth.
CONCLUSION: In short, Love's New Beginnings is a tender, gentle, faith-filled romance that will sweep the reader into the world of two uncertain characters and the captivating Wyoming Sunrise series. This is such an adorable novella.

I am super excited to announce that today is the release day for Love’s New Beginnings and just in time for Christmas!
When I wrote Forgotten Memories, I never imagined it would have a prequel. Lydie and Solomon were delightful secondary characters who will also make appearances in Dreams of the Heart and When Love Comes.
But soon, I heard from readers asking if I would write a book about Lydie and Solomon and how it all began in the Wyoming Sunrise Series.
Before I could ponder whether or not to write a prequel, my characters began to take on a life of their own. Lydie and Solomon were soon joined by a host of secondary characters, including Lydie’s hilarious (and extremely ornery) aunts, Myrtle and Fern.
What began as a short story soon blossomed into a book.
I’m thrilled to have you meet Lydie and Solomon when they first ventured to Willow Falls in the Wyoming Territory all those years ago.
With each of Penny’s books I read, I become a bigger fan of her sweet romances with their uplifting themes and wonderful characters!
This book was certainly no exception!!!! I loved getting to meet Lydie and Solomon! There were so many humorous moments scattered throughout the book. I loved the Christmas scenes and beautiful faith themes.
If you enjoy sweet Christian historical romances, you should definitely read this book!!!!
What a sweet novella to begin the Wyoming Sunrise Series! I enjoyed getting a glimpse at younger versions of Lydie and Solomon, but even if you haven't read the first book in the series yet, you will enjoy this gentle Christmas novella.
Characters: Lydie was such a sweetheart. Her disposition and patience even in the face of some rather trying moments was commendable, and I loved her passion for teaching. Her doubts and fears in the face of her new career were so relatable, too. And the Aunts! They were hilarious, and I would've loved to see even more of them. (I think they're coming in another book?) Solomon was also in a similar situation to Lydie's - trying to prove himself worthy of a new job. His diligence and perseverance shone through his actions. Watching Lydie and Solomon get together made for a sweet romance - and at Christmastime!
Plot/Setting/Writing Style: While no extreme action or suspense occurred in this book, plenty of character development and escapades kept the plot moving along (including one of the Aunt's ... interesting cooking skills.) The Wyoming Territory setting was interesting, and I enjoyed the small-town feel. Zeller's writing style worked well for this book and genre - clear, concise, and gentle. A perfect fit for historical fiction!
Theme: One of the biggest themes in this book was moving past bad events/relationships and living the life that you're called to. Solomon had a lot of forgiving to do toward his grandfather, and he also let himself be defined by what his grandfather had once said to him. More excellent themes was obeying the Lord when He calls you, even if it's difficult - definitely an important reminder!
Overall, this was a sweet Christmas novella that's perfect for a relaxing read. Be sure to check this one out if you're a fan of historical Christian fiction.

Looking for an adorable, holiday-themed story with a touch of romance? Then this is the book for you!
A misunderstanding and a harmless yet frustrating prank taint new school teacher Lydie's view of the young reverend Solomon. But as time progresses and their interactions occur more frequently than before, the rocky start to their acquaintance gradually finds common ground, and friendship blossoms.
It was so great to see Solomon and Lydie and read their story, especially after reading Forgotten Memories earlier this year. A lighthearted read set in the mountains of Wyoming Territory, you'll be left smiling and sighing throughout its entirety.
Perfect for lovers of Janette Oke and those who enjoy a bumbling yet sweet romance with enjoyable and relatable characters.
**I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review. All thoughts expressed are my own**
This prequel was very fittingly titled. There were several new beginnings, some due to not so good endings prior. Solomon very well could have turned out a different way, as could have Lydie after her first day. The Aunts were so funny to “watch” interact with each other and others. The main “new beginning” of course was the “Love’s New Beginning,” and I feel like that union is part of how several of the others were able to open up and accept their new position in a happier, more welcome light.
Sweet Christmas novel. Both main characters, Lydie and Solomon, are reminders of what it's like to be young, without family and in an unfamiliar place. Their humility makes them a little more likeable as they make their way in a new town in the west.
Lydie's two aunts are fun additions.
After having read the first in the series, it was good to get the backstory of Lydie and Solomon to better understand what shaped them for the future.
My gratitude to the author for a complimentary e-copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
What a lovely beginning to Penny Zeller’s Wyoming Sunrise series! This book tells the story of Lydie Beauchamp and Solomon Eliason, parents of future main characters in upcoming books. Their meet cute was one of the most unusual introductions I have ever read and almost gave their story an enemies-to-more vibe. Each of them was new in town and had to find their way in their recently hired positions, Lydie as school teacher and Solomon as the new pastor. What followed from there was not just an entertaining story but one that carried a spiritual message of finding one’s identity in Christ. One of the scenes involving Solomon and one of the townspeople was so touching you may want to have a tissue handy. That being said, there were also several laugh-out-loud moments, many involving Lydie’s aunts, Myrtle and Fern. Those two were a hoot! I have read many historicals by this author and look forward to her new historical romance releases. Can’t wait to read the other books in this series!
In addition to purchasing my own copy, I received an advanced reader copy from Celebrate Lit Bloggers and Reviewers. I was not required to write a positive review and the opinions expressed here are completely my own.
What a sweet story! Just exactly what I wanted to read leading to the holidays.
Lydie ❤️ Solomon
This story was like a Thomas Kinkade’s painting, like a vintage Christmas card 🥰 That’s how I pictured it all in my mind. Charming town, innocent children’s pranks, two lovable and protective aunts, humor, faith, lives changed, sleigh rides, ice skating, hot chocolate, apple pie, Thanksgiving, Christmas!, what else would you like for a great read? Doesn’t it give you all the feelings, I love it!
Lydie accepts a teacher position in the town of Willow Falls and about the same time Solomon is appointed reverend to the same town’s church. When their paths crossed, on a not so very nice way, things started getting complicated, adding two protective aunts to the mix and you get some hilarious misunderstandings. …Huckleberry pie anyone? 😂
This is the prequel to ‘Forgotten Memories’, and it was really neat to see where and how it all started with the Eliason family.
Here are some favorite quotes from the book…
“You might be worrying when you start to pray, but there’s no way you can pray and keep worrying at the same time.”
“You’re suitable for whatever it is God calls you to.”
“But you have a willing heart and God uses willing hearts for His purposes.”
❤️ “My, but she was growing fond of him! Fond of his gentle way with those in need; fond of his extensive knowledge of the Bible; and fond of his marvelous sense of humor.”
*I received an eARC of this book from the author and a positive review was not required. All opinions are my own and I share them voluntarily.*
This was an an excellent book. The characters were well written, and the plot line was sweet with a bit of humor. My favorite character is Fredrick. He is a funny, talkative little fellow. Would definitely recommend.
I recieved an ARC copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Another good read by Penny Zeller. This is the prequel to Forgotten Memories and it didn't let me know. If you haven't read Forgotten Memories, I would suggest reading this book first as it will help set up the series.
We were introduced to Solomon and Lydie in Forgotten Memories and it is good to see how their own story started. Solomon is in his first church as minister and is constantly compared with the previous minster and often told he's too young. He also is dealing from a childhood with a grandfather who thought he wasn't good enough. We see how he wants to make a difference but struggles with memories and thoughts.
Lydie is at her first school after moving west here her two Aunts that raised her. The school has a new tradition of pranking new teachers on the first day of school. This leads to some distress from Lydie especially when she finds out Solomon was part the whole idea and puts him on the back foot.
I loved how we found out more about both characters and how similar tragedies in childhood can have totally different outcomes. What if Solomons Grandfather loved him for who he was. Or Lydies Aunts had treated her like a servant. Both lives would have been so different. We see the struggles Solomon have with his thoughts and it is good seeing the growth in the book. It was also good getting to know the secondary characters that still have a part to play in the next book.
This is the perfect start to the series and a perfect book for the Christmas season. There are also some secondary characters who try to steal the story. Fredrick is a child with a gift for story telling. Aunt Fern and Myrtle also like to steal scenes. I have never had huckleberries or Huckleberry pie but if I do get a chance to taste it I know who I don't want cooking it.
A good read and I look forward to the next book in the series next year.
A sweet, cozy read for Christmas. Two young people start their lives on their own in a small frontier town. Their initial impressions of each other change over time as they get to know one another, and a friendship develops.
Among the several things in this novella, I liked the many historical facts that were woven into the story; for instance, the stagecoach driver listing the rules for travellers was an entertaining scene.
To me, Solomon, the leading male character, was probably the most interesting one. Although not overly dynamic, he was certainly unique. As a reader, I found myself appreciating his shortcomings, like his self-doubt or his feeling of being inadequate, or his shyness. This and many more qualities made him a rather relatable fellow.
I read book #1 in the Wyoming Sunrise series, "Forgotten Memories," prior to reading the prequel, "Love's New Beginnings." The reason being that the author had many requests to know the story of the mature couple, Lydie Beauchamp, the town's new teacher, and Rev. Solomon Eliason, the town's new pastor. So a short prequel was written and what a touching, sweet, delightful read it is.
In today's world, the chance of finding good clean fiction that is sweet and a joy to read is rare indeed. Author Penny Zeller is known for her faith based stories that give glimpses into the lives of historical people as well as some contemporary stories. "Love's New Beginnings" has a teacher and a reverend new to the town and new to their professional callings. There is a delightful loquacous boy in the story that steals your heart. And the adults in the town are warm and supportive of both of these newcomers.
The sweet romance is tender and delightful. I highly recommend this book and series.
I received a complimentary copy to facilitate a review. Opinions are mine, alone and are freely given.
I love new beginnings stories, so the title Love’s New Beginnings lured me in straightaway. Also, I’ve read several books by this author, both contemporary and historical, and I’ve enjoyed them all.
From the first scene, I liked Lydie and appreciated her determination and spunk to give someone a piece of her mind, albeit she usually presented a more reserved nature. Even trying her best, she still comes off sweet and vulnerable.
I liked Solomon just as much and admired his humbleness and empathized with his need to prove himself. I rooted for Lydie and Solomon, both in romance and in purpose.
And then there is Aunt Myrtle and Aunt Fern. These delightful women add so much heart and humor.
This wholesome, character driven story is another win for Zeller! As with all her stories, there’s a healthy blend of laughs, tenderness, and faith.
First Line: Lydie Beauchamp stalked down the dusty streets of Prune Creek, her skirt squishing against her ankles. Series: Wyoming Sunrise Prequel Genre: Christian Historical Romance Author: Penny Zeller Page Count: 220
#CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine.
This is a sweet and clean historical fiction novel. Solomon is the somewhat new reverend in this small Wyoming town. Lydie is the new schoolteacher, missing her funny and sassy aunts. Both seem to be off to a shaky start - with the community and with each other. Can they each find a way to fit in and finally call this place home?
Another stellar book by Penny Zeller as we revisit characters from her first book Forgotten Memories. See what happens when Lydie leaves the comforts of her aunts home to go teach in the wild territory town of Willow Falls and then finds out that the local preacher, Solomon, was behind all the pranks the children were pulling on her.
I found the book to be very enjoyable and entertaining. I look forward to reading more from this author.
All words and opinions are my own. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
This is a nice, sweet Christian read that will warm the heart and is a perfect addition to any Christmas book pile. The conversations were smooth and natural, the characters were great and some were absolutely hilarious, and I liked the setting and plot. This is a book any reader of Christian historical romance should read. I can't wait for the other books in the series.
The author gave me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from BookSirens.
Well done main characters. Both are young new residents in the small town of Willow Falls. They have much in common and despite a poor first impression, are drawn to each other.
It's interesting that most of the other townspeople think negatively of the new reverend because of his youth, but don't have a problem with the even younger new teacher.
The story moved along well and was thoroughly enjoyable.
4.5 stars This was a fun, light Historical Romance read. The characters were charming, especially Lydie and her aunts. Frederick was also an interesting character, and I hope he appears in later books! I also liked Solomon and thought his characterization and motivations were realistic. I found it a little hard to believe, though, that authorities would actually encourage students to play pranks on their unsuspecting teacher, but perhaps that's just me. If you want a cheerful, not overly long Christian romance novel to read this winter, Love's New Beginnings is an excellent choice. Only a small part of the book is actually set at Christmas, so this book could be read any time of the year. Oh, and I absolutely love the cover.
I received an ARC from the publisher, and am voluntarily sharing my review. Penny's character, Lydie, is endearing and shy. As a reader, I could feel her fears, and her hopes for her future as a teacher. Her relationship with her two aunts is fun to experience. Solomon has his own relatable qualities, and some emotional wounds many can relate to. Being a part of their story was enjoyable for me as a reader. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, and I easily imagined the setting of the novel.
I really enjoyed going back to the wild west in the one room classroom Era. I laughed out loud during the huckleberry pie- and my husband wanted to know what was so funny. Guess it hit me funny as it reminded me of when my granny had alzheimers and well let's just say her cooking wasn't what it once was. I'm going to have to look for more of Penny's books. This is a good clean read and enjoyable by anyone who loves to read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.
Solomon arrived in town as a young pastor. Soon Lydie arrived as the young school teacher. Their early encounter did not go well. In fact, things weren't going well at the church either. Would either of them be able to stick with it? Relax and follow them in the midst of the ups and downs. You will not be sorry. It's an interesting story.
It is difficult to start over, or begin with something new. These two young people have many challenges and changes in their lives, but God graciously put them in the same town to get to know each other and help each other face their challenges. It was a delightful story.
I LOVED getting to read the love story of Solomon and Lydie! I fell in love with their characters in Forgotten Memories when they were just the parents of one the main characters. I read Dreams of the Heart BEFORE I read this one even though this one was published first, so I got to see them again, as parents.
I'm one of those people who reads series because I fall in love with the characters in a well-written book and want to know more about their story, plus the other characters that came to life in the book. THAT is the art of writing, making the reader want MORE. When an author gifts readers with short stories, or novellas as they are called, either as a prequel or stories in between the books in a series to give us MORE details and MORE of the story, just WOW! Let me say that it is honey to a reader's soul!
Another thing I enjoy is when author's give us some of the information they found while researching for the book. It shows the author cares about getting things as close as they can to the time period and keeping in line with history. After reading a book that is set in a different time period, I make sure to read the author's notes when I'm done. This one has a page of notes and she shares the facts she found AND tells us where she took liberties in the story.
Even though this is a smaller book, 188 pages, it was a great read. Don't skip it! I would suggest reading it AFTER book one, but obviously, you can read it in whatever order you wish. There is no wrong way!
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
What a beautiful, western, Christian historical romance by Penny Zeller. I’ve been longing lately to read a novella like Love’s New Beginnings. Zeller’s Christmas- themed story features Lydie Beauchamp, a young first-time teacher in a small Wyoming Territory town, and Solomon Eliason, a young, untested preacher in the same town. Both want to desperately to succeed where God has called them, but when circumstances seem adverse, question that calling.
I love returning to the days of the Old West in uncomplicated storylines, full of faith well-interwoven into the narrative, with humor and clean romance. Aunt Fern and Aunt Myrtle are great counterpoints and comic relief. They help the story shine brightly. I also love the value of mentors as seen in this novel. Lydie and Solomon are enabled to reach towards their full potential because of godly people in their lives.
Be sure and check out the stagecoach riding rules. I loved the “no snoring if you fall asleep.” I found myself laughing aloud several times. What blessed medicine at this time in my life!
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. I also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
“You might be worrying when you start to pray, but there’s no way you can pray and keep worrying at the same time.”
“I just hope I’m suitable for the position.” …“You’re suitable for whatever it is God calls you to.”
“Even if Solomon wanted to forget his mistakes, there was one man who would never allow him to do so.”
“…that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
“You don’t have to be someone special to come to Him. As a matter of fact, I think He prefers those who are broken and know they need a Savior. ‘Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’”
This was a fantastic Historical Christian fiction series Prequel! The story was believable and the characters were heartwarming. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment! I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book, but it did not in any way affect my review. All opinions are my own.
Love’s New Beginnings is the prequel to Penny Zeller’s Wyoming Sunrise series. This book introduces the town of Willow Falls, it’s pastor and the school teacher. Lydie’s aunt’s intended takes off for the Gold rush, leaving Lydie and her aunt’s with no home or jobs. Lydie takes a teaching job in a nearby town. The local pastor, Solomon, is put in charge of the annual first day of school prank for the teacher.
This is such a good story. I just love how it introduces people and events that start out the series. I adore the different characters and just love the talkative student. This is an enjoyable, quick, and easy to read story. It is well written and easy to imagine the story. It is enjoyable to see the relationship between Lydie and Solomon change throughout the story. I also enjoyed the way they both matured with such different caregivers after their parents’ deaths. I appreciate how Lydie finds the strength to voice her feelings when visiting with a woman who feels she is above others. This is such a good story and having read the first main book in the series, I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book, this is my honest review.
Love’s New Beginnings by Penny Zeller is a work of Christian Historical fiction that includes a dash of romance. Set during the 1860s, this book kept my interest. Lydie Beauchamp recently moved to the Wyoming territory with her two aunts. When the circumstances that brought them there change, she finds an opportunity for her aunts to care for an elderly couple. The aunts bring incredible life to the story. Then, Lydie sets out for Willow Falls to be a teacher.
Reverend Solomon Eliason desires to make a difference. Hired as the pastor of Willow Falls, he works to convince the congregation he. Is capable of shepherding their church. When he gets nominated to be in charge of the annual prank day, his initial interaction with Lydie leads to misunderstandings that are hard to overcome.
I loved how the author developed these characters and the storyline. She does an excellent job describing how Lydie eventually forgives Solomon. I enjoyed reading about them moving towards a courtship. The interactions between Lydie, her students, and Solomon kept this book interesting.
So if you enjoy sweet Christian historical works of fiction, check out Love’s New Beginnings by Penny Zeller. I definitely recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
