In a world of sirens, pirates and unspeakable danger, one might crave a quiet life on the Garden Isle…but not this blue-eyed girl.
Upon the death of her guardians, Emerelda Mirabel comes to inherit three curious things:
A book…
Not a diary or fable, but something almost sentient. This riddlesome book hums with power, each page offering strange warnings and temptations…Perhaps speaking to a future already written?
A desire…
Adventure calls to the young captain, a hunger for something more than a simple fisherwoman’s life. Upon her ship, The King’s Arcana, she will sail the eight seas, venturing to strange lands with strangers amongst her crew. But at what cost?
A heartless prince…
Seemingly cursed with no heart, Prince Ryder could not care less about his kingdom, his family or even life itself. But when the king insists his son travel with Emery to find a cure for the affliction, something finally stirs within. Something he cannot explain. Something binding him to the blue-eyed girl.
I’m just. wow. I loved this. It was SO good. I loved the characters and the writing and story and the pacing and… just all of it. I don’t think I have any complaints (except that I just want them to KISS. PLEASE. I’m jk. ish. I loved this and wouldn’t change a thing).
okayokay, actual review below: First: characters. I genuinely loved all of them. Emerelda was an amazing character. I liked her from the start and just slowly fell even deeper in love the more we got to know her. She was such a strong and intelligent and just all around amazing FMC, and I’m sorta obsessed. PLUS she’s a captain. Of her own ship. As she went through the different challenges and obstacles thrown at her by the fates or gods or whoever is writing her book, she met every single one of them without backing down. And she came out even stronger every time. The heartless prince? Um for a man that doesn’t have a heart, he sure stole mine pretty quickly. Which I am totally okay with, I would have just handed it to him if that means we get more Ryder and Emerelda page time. I lived for all of their interactions. The side characters? Toriq, Caleb, Ansel, Winnie? LOVED THEM TOO. they didn’t just feel like side characters either though! They felt just as important as the MC and helped move the story along too.
This is also very much a slowwww burn. I don’t read them very often because I’m usually disappointed when the couple does get together if it isn’t written well. BUT I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED. Like I said, I am LIVING for every single second of page time that Ryder and Emerelda have together.
I was literally hooked from the first paragraph, and I could not put it down. This was so good from start to finish. I loved all the fairytales, myths and stories that were woven into this, and they didn’t feel like afterthoughts either, they were actually part of it. And if I wasn’t so familiar with so many fairy tales already I may not have realized that they weren’t completely unique for this story (which they still very much are, because they aren’t exactly the characters you remember from the Disney movies). I’m not gonna say which stories make an appearance in this, you’ll just have to read it yourself and see :)
ALSO there were poems/riddles, prophecies, songs, etc that RHYMED. That you got to read on the page! I LOVE getting those and this was yet another element that pushed this from already being a five star read, onto my favorites list. So, overall (if you couldn’t tell), I loved this. The writing was phenomenal, the story was amazing, the world building was incredible, and the characters were the best too. Like I said it is slow burn, there’s some found family, quests and adventure. There are sirens, mermaids, pirates, genies, magic and curses, and sooo many other things. and you know I also loved all of the tension and the little twists and turns the story took. I literally cannot wait for the next one and I one hundred percent recommend this!!
(there are soooo many more things I want to say and mention, but I don’t want to spoil anything so go add this to your TBR and read it asap so you can see for yourself.)
special thank you again to the author and R&R Book tours for sending me a copy!
I can’t begin to put into words just how much I loved this book, I rarely read pirate books and this book has changed that, because now I want to read them all. But it’s not just a pirate book, oh no, this masterpiece includes; heartless prince, sirens, Peter Pan, a genie, prophecies, riddles, death itself, mythology references, fairy tales, badass female MC, queer rep, POC rep, numerous love interests (YES, NUMEROUS), I could go on but I’ll leave it there. I absolutely ADORED Emery’s character (she’s Emmie to me) and just how stoic she is throughout everything, you can’t name a finer seafarer and captain than her.
Simply: this book is everything you could ever want in a fantasy book and you need to read it NOW. You’re all going to die over this one. Get ready to have a new fave book in your top 5 reads of the year.
PS: Hunter FOREVER. Sorry Ryder…
Thank you so much to Kate for trusting me to be one of the very first people to read this book, I can’t believe I have to wait SO LONG for the next instalment…
Before starting with my actual review, what is Upon a Wicked Tide about? "In a world of sirens, pirates and unspeakable danger, one might crave a quiet life on the Garden Isle…but not this blue-eyed girl. Upon the death of her guardians, Emerelda Mirabel comes to inherit three curious things: a book, a desire and a heartless prince". Will she keep her promises or temptation will make her fall? So, my non-spoilery review is that I ADORE this book. I was feeling stuck with my reading pile and this has helped me get hooked up with reading again. I loved the character of Emeralda from the very first page and Kate's writing style is awesome. The only thing I hated was not being able to keep physical tabs - although with the number of scenes that I liked it's probably best. Emerelda's farewells to the sisters were very intense and emotional. Kate's description was so spot on, I felt I was in those rooms where Death lured. On the contrary, the way she describes Queen Cinder is outstanding, she makes the character feel alive and real. Besides, it is quite refreshing to see kind royalty instead of cruel ones. And what about the first interaction between Emerelda and the prince?! It's everything I could have asked for, is it short? Yes. Did it leave me yearning for more? Absolutely. I was already in with this encounter but Ryder having green eyes (more specifically, emerald) and black hair, totally sold it for me. SPOILERS AHEAD, BEWARE! Emerelda seemed like a badass woman from the very beginning - although her not suspecting the sisters to be witches felt a bit weird. It is great to see a woman as a captain of a ship and knowing how to handle her weapons. But she shows her strong personality on the ship and it is great to see her as a captain. On the other hand, I found really interesting to see the relationship between Ryder and Emery build up. Sometimes, these connections tend to be too sudden and you can't relate to the characters; but this wasn't the case, little by little, you get to see these little moments together and how they become close as a natural and organic thing. Something else I liked was how Ryder is the healer. Girls are often the healers, even if they are fighters too. And it was refreshing seeing a man take this role rather than falling to the woman. And by the way, I can't wait to see this love triangle developed, well triangle or square... she seems to have a lot of prospects as Winnie puts it. Also, I really liked the overall story but I did think there were too many things happening at once that I would have wanted to know more about: the sirens or the Beggars' King, for example. I wish we could have learned more about these plotlines since I think it would have made it less confusing. Finally, what was that cliffhanger?! I have no words and I truly can't wait for the next book. Kate has me hooked. Who is that woman and how do they know her?
Get yourself ready to enter in the enchanting and mysterious world of mermaids, genies, pirates, witch and sirens.
Emerelda is a protagonist of the story raised by her guardians yet her destiny is waiting to unfold for her and it is encapsulating in the form of riddles. It acquainted her with a heartless prince Ryder yet the prediction has entangled in her perils, lies, curse and dilemma. And they both ventures on a quest to find Mother Witch as the eighth sea is leading her to the secret of vows, prophecy and the pages of book and to find the heartless prince’s heart. Will they succeed in finding her? Like the author’s other books, this also ends on cliffhanger. While throughout the pages, the mystery will deepen, magic will get dark, and they both will come close yet the destiny is strange. It maybe playing wicked game with them. Will the prophecy come true?
Have you ever wondered what lies deep beneath the sea? Perhaps, mysteries, prophecy and forbidden secrets. Where there is a magic, there is a prophecy and riddle at the every step. The more they are getting close to it, the more danger is lurking upon them. Will they find their way out of it? Will she break the prince’s curse? Will this odyssey turn out to be curse or blessing?
As expected, I enjoy my dark romances, but there's something about a good fantasy that really scratches an itch.
I loved reading this book. In fact, I practically gobbled it up. Once you start, you'll find yourself completely immersed in the world of Oceania. Emery is strong, smart and independent. She's a ship captain y'all 😭 how cool is that ? In this book, men are not trusted to sail in siren infested waters, so it's common for women to assure the comings and goings of ships while they manage the docks. I'm still in awe of the worldbuilding honestly. I won't say much (because where's the fun right ?) but the way the author incorporated so many fairytales and references to popular folklore is amazing. It blends seamlessly with the plot and some are revisited in the most innovative ways.
I found myself growing fond of every single character Emery interacts with. Her journey is full of twists and turns, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Ryder, the heartless prince 🤍😞, is not your typical mmc. His cluelessness when it comes to human emotions and his bluntness while having a face/body like that is a crime. He can't act all innocent after making me so flustered. I'm suing.
Then there's the romance 😩 the slow burn🔥 I always forget that when written right, a slow burn can make me kick my feet in the air as much as any toe curling smut can. The tension is sizzliiiiiiing ♨️. I abused my poor pillow (my makeshift punching bag) so many times reading their interactions. They made me hold my breath and giggle like an infatuated teen.
I honestly can't wait to read the rest of this series !!
Upon a Wicked Tide is another amazing read by author, Kate Craft! I have not been disappointed by any of the books that Kate has written. In fact, if anything my love for fantasy books has been awakened again. The world and characters that Kate has built for this book was fantastic.
A female ship captain... yes, please! Emery captaining The King’s Arcana was great to see such a strong female protagonist. Yet, Emery was not the only strong female as there is Winnie. It was nice to see two strong women. Although not to be missed is Prince Ryder. The romance between Emery and Ryder is a slow burn one. I liked it a lot. There was a nice balance between the overall story and the romance. The way this book ended leads me to believe there will be a book two.
I am so happy to have gotten to participate in the arch read of this book. It was an exciting adventure with a serious "once upon time" vibe. through this sea journey we are introduced to many familiar fairytale characters as the main character is on her journey to find answers to her past and the prophecies for her future. This is a romance with no outright spice but tension with more then one male character that is delicious. This is the first of a series with a cliffhanger that will have you anticipating the next book.
Upon a Wicked Tide is one of the TOP 5 best fantasy arcs I've read this year. Kate Craft's Upon A Wicked Tide will leave you breathless for all the right reasons.
Emery, the FMC, is such a bad@ss/strong heroine who doesn't take no s**t from anyone especially men and yet she's feminine and vulnerable at the same time. The author crafted Emery so perfectly, she's the type of character you fall in love with and can't help but root for her the entire book. When it comes to the hodge-podge crew that ends up sailing with Cap. Emery I can't begin to express how special they all are to me... They're the strangest group of people who you wouldn’t hink would ever in a million years work together, but again the author writes her characters flawlessly. They flow together seamlessly, each character brings out the best in one another causing them to be a great team. But if anyone asked me to choose my favorite crewmember it would definitely have to be the only other woman on the ship, Winnie, second mate/chef. Don't get me wrong, I also like the prince, Ryder who is onboard The Arcana, not only protect Captain Emery but also because he's going to see Mother Witch about being heartless. (I can't elaborate, no spoiling. Lol) I also love the way the author has made the attraction between Prince Ryder and Cap. Emery so palpable.
Kate Craft's book grabs your attention from the beginning, holding you hostage until the end! Upon a Wicked Tide had so much sadness, loss, and pain yet it contains beautiful friendships, teamwork, perseverance love and loss. This book ends on a cliffhanger so prepare yourself!! I need book 2 like yesterday. 🤣🤍 Thank you @book.cove for gifting me this book for an honest review!!
This unexpected fantasy book kept me coming back for more! This is the wild tale of Emerelda, orphan sea captain, who joins up with a heartless prince, a mysterious cook/skilled archer, a strange man with something to hide, and two of the King’s guard, one of whom regards her as untrustworthy. The band of unlikely companions goes on a journey to find Mother Witch, the matriarch of Emery’s 3 sister guardians who have just passed away. Along the way, their sea journey is fraught with peril, adventure, strange creatures, and new discoveries.
Emery is a wonderfully strong lead, and is one of the best captains on her island. I love that in this world, only women can captain ships because they are immune to the sirens’ song. There are curses, a prophetic book, dangerous missions, and mythical creatures they meet along the way: sirens, dwarves, mermaids, chimeras, harpies, witches, genies… I’m sure there’s some I’ve missed! And the story also weaves in various fairy tales, like Snow White and the 7 Dwarves, The Pied Piper, and Peter Pan. I really enjoyed seeing how the familiar tales panned out in this book. Emery starts out enjoying being alone, but then realizes she has found her new family in her crew mates: Ryder, Winnie, Ansel, Caleb, and Toriq.
This is definitely a fantasy, with a slow burn romance. Its not spicy, just a build throughout and I hope it’s further explored in book two! Overall, it was a fantastic read that took me to a new and exciting world! Beware the cliffhanger! But the book wraps up a few things nicely before it ends.
I received a free advanced copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.
"Sometimes fate smiles upon us… but most of the time, she takes us by the throat and drags us down the beaten path."
I recieved an ARC of UAWT in exchange for a honest review, and I am delighted to tell you all that I absolutely fell in love with this story. Kate had me hooked from the epigraph!
Upon A Wicked Tide focuses on sea captain Emerelda Mirabel, who embarks on a dangerous journey to find the Mother Witch after her guardians pass away. She's shackled with a crew that she doesn't trust: a heartless cursed prince, two guards, a scarred second mate, and a mysterious stranger. Their dangerous voyage pits them against foes like sirens, mermaids, pirates, and the kraken. Throw in a journal with riddles of the future, and you're in for an exciting adventure!
Kate has crafted a wonderful set of characters that draw you in quickly. The mysteries surrounding Emery's past, the warnings from her guardians, and the journal's riddles make for a fun and interesting plot. I couldn't wait to read more and see what happened next. I loved the nods to other fairy tales, some obvious and others more subtle.
The slow burn tension between Emery and Ryder is ::chef's kiss:: absolute perfection! There's no spice, and I don't think the story needed it. The build up of the tension and potential kept my romance loving heart happy.
I finished the story and immediately wanted more! Kate, I need book two yesterday! I can't recommend this story enough!
“Does that frighten you, Emery? Being on a ship with a man who feels nothing, no pain, no love, no anger, nor fear?”
“This is why it’s always better to sail alone,” I mutter to myself. “Nobody to rescue, and no infuriating princes to deal with.”
“I need more than food,” I mumble. I need rum… and therapy."
Upon the death of her guardians, Emerelda Mirabel comes to inherit three curious things: *~A Book~* *~A Desire~* *~A Heartless Prince~*
As you can tell from my rating I LOVED this book. I have never read a 'pirate fantasy' book before and didn't quite know what to expect but it was wonderful, enchanting and a book I wanted to just binge read! Within this book are parts of so many fairy tales all under the one cover and half of them you would miss if you weren't looking because the writing is so fluid and unique you aren't looking for other fairytales, you're focused on Emery and her personal journey. If, like me, you're a fan of slow burn then you will be cursing Kate until the next book as it is VERY slow burn and I just want to shout "let him rip your clothes off please!". There's some absolutely gruesome parts of this book but they made the world seem so so real. I could smell the leather and smoke. It was incredible. Now how long do I have to wait until book 2 because that cliffhanger was unreasonably mean 😂 Kate, you're fantastic. Don't ever doubt yourself, especially when it comes to this book. You have so much talent and it's been a pleasure getting to know you! 💕 Upon a Wicked Tide comes out 31st Oct so pre order now! ❤️
This follows Emerelda, or Emory, who is captain of The King's Arcana, who is used to being a solitary captain. Emerelda's guardians, known as the sisters, die from the plague currently raging through the land and leave her with a book that supposedly tells her future. Her guardians advise her to go to the king who then tasks her with traveling to the Mother Witch who may be able to get her answers, but also help the king's son Ryder who has no heart. Which also a place a mysterious man called Ansel needs to go who happens to arrive at the palace at the same time as Emerelda and asks to join her on her journey. Thus, they travel the seas together to the island where Mother Witch lives facing many obstacles along the way, such as sirens.
The moment I started this book, I thought "this sounds so much like a Grimm fairytale", and boy did it read like one! IT is definitely a dark fantasy with some humor riddled into it, and even a slow burn romance that makes you ache for it to just happen already! I love books set at sea and I loved the world in this book. A very dark fairytale-esque style and I loved every moment of it! I loved meeting some characters in here that we are all familiar with from fairytales, it was a nice spin and surprise to read.
I also love the found family aspect in this story. I did not expect that(I love found families!), and the way it builds is wonderful, especially when Emerelda is so used to being on her own, and now she's forced to work with this group of people and has to socialize, it's just so well done, and you can just feel how they all grow close to each other without really meaning or expecting to.
The characters are fantastic too! I nice group of different personalities. There's Emerelda the tough, "I work alone" captain of the bunch, Prince Ryder the seriously mysterious and an enigma of a person, Ansel who you are just suss about from the beginning just wondering who is he!? And the rest of the crew who all add a nice bunch of humor, sass, and broodiness to the crew.
The romance was a bit of surprise too. I was expecting it, but it was more than I expected, and there's a nice twist to it and I'm super curious to see how it continues on the next book!
Speaking of which, that cliffhanger! I mean it just ends, and now I have to wait how long?! Let's just say I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series once it is released immediately!
I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Quotes: "Happy birthday, Emerelda Mirabel. I love you, and I will always be with you. Even Death has no power over that."
Review: I love that women roam the seas because men can't handle the song of the sirens. Emery is a master sailor at a young age. But she comes home to her guardians on their death beds, each of the 3 sisters making her promise something with each dying breath.
Marnie: ignore my sisters requests and go to the king and call in an old favor Malka: never take a lover...a tale was told of a man she would love, a heartless man, that would kill her Malina: Read the book, but only what it allows
Emery is sailing the eight seas in search of that which must be found, the Mother Witch. But she may find more than she expected…sirens, mermaids, pirates, guardians, witches, krakens, what else are we going to find?
The riddles and clues that are sprinkled throughout her journey are delicious and well planned. You feel like you are having the ah-hah moments along with the characters themselves. I’m rooting for E and R!
The cliffhanger! I cannot wait for book 2 to find out what happens.
Tropes: - Sirens - Romantasy - Magic - Touch her and die - Fated Mates…maybe - Slow burn - One bed - Forced proximity

I absolutely adored this book!! I could not stop reading it and I was so sad when it was done! I was shocked by much I enjoyed this book because I’ve never really liked pirate & mermaid type stories but this book has completely changed that for me! I’m in love with this genre now. There is so much action and adventure and I’m totally here for it!
”My heart has always belonged to those waves, something unseen pulling at my chest to explore a world so much bigger than what the Garden Isle has to offer.”
Upon a Wicked Tide is one of those reads that constantly keeps you guessing at what’s going to happen next. Kate Craft did a wonderful job of setting up Emery’s world to the point where the book became an addiction for me that I could not put down.
Emery is our female FC who is a ship’s captain. She works hard to feed not only her three guardians but also the others in their village who are more susceptible to the siren’s calls out on the water. Her story involves a magical book that leads her to Ryder, the heartless prince. His cluelessness and bluntness are not typical characteristics of male MC, but boy did it work for him.
The slow-burn romance between Emery and Ryder was done to perfection. The tension between the two of them is off the charts, and I cannot wait to see what happens between them in the next book.
And let’s not forget all of the fairytales woven throughout the story (which I won’t name). This book was just a breath of fresh air and such a pleasant surprise all around. I cannot wait to see what’s next on this journey for Emery and her crew.
I want to take a moment to say thank you to Kate Craft, the author of Upon a Wicked Tide, for giving me an ARC of this book.
This was my first time reading anything by Kate Craft, and I was not disappointed. The book gave me Pirates of the Carribean feel along with Once Upon A Time vibes. The plot had great twists and turns, which lead to some great reveals with classic fairytales that we all know and love. How she wove those tales in had me going, wait...what?!
The characters were very relatable and lovable. If you're a fan of slow burn, you'll love this book. There is a touch of spice that had me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. The side characters were beautiful, and I hope to find out more about them in the next book, especially Winnie. I love Winnie and want a novella just about her. The world was created wonderfully, and some of the different islands had something to do with the fairy tale surprises.
If you want a book in between a series, that isn't as gut wrenching as some out there, definitely get this book. I was very invested in Emery's story, and had to know what happened next. If you want a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat with some spice sprinkled in, but not covered, look no further.
Please be sure to check out this book when it comes out on October 31st! You won't be sorry that you did!!
I applied for an ARC copy of this book when I saw a post on my BookTok fyp and happily received one.
For starters, this cover is gorgeous. I really love it. I did not read much about this book before starting it, I love going into a book (mostly) blind. I admit it took me a little too long to realize the story is full of fairytales, but I enjoyed finding out through my reading.
Adventure on the 5 seas is where the book takes place and I love a good pirate type story filled with sirens, mermaids, and obstacles along the way. The romance and spice is minimal at best but the book is fast paced with interesting things happening every few chapters and I love that. The more I read the more intrigued I became. It ends on an interesting cliff hanger, making me excited for book 2.
Reasons it’s only a 3 ⭐️ I want more. I want more details of places and events through the whole story. A lot that happened was quick and didn’t leave you guessing for long. I want more Drama in the story. The drama that leaves you questioning everything or makes you feel strong emotions. I want more depth to the characters, more personal struggles, dreams, flaws, etc.
Overall it’s a good read. I enjoyed the story and I’m curious as to what lies ahead for our MC in book two.
After the death of Emerelda's guardians, she sets out on an adventure seeking answers.

📚Who Should read :
👶Beginners 💫Fantasy Lovers
📈My Rating : 5/5
P.S- Kate never fails to amaze me with her storytelling. Oh and By the way Kate. The person outside your house in a tent is me. You have left me hanging for not just one but two books now.
This book was amazing! Everybody needs to go read it immediately. It was so much fun to read, and I got through it so quickly. The plot started right away, and I don’t think there was a single slow spot the whole way. It was one thing after another, done in the best way, and so entertaining. The world building and descriptions were cool, I normally can’t imagine things in my head, but everything was so clear to me. The characters, the found family aspect, it was so freaking good. I loved seeing the changes in Toriq and Caleb especially, how they progressed. How they all formed bonds and worked so well together. The tension between Ryder and Emery was so good. I think I squealed at a couple of moments XD. I loved how Ryder was written, heartless but seemingly protective and caring. I could totally see looking up to Emery if she was real. Her bravery, her leadership, her skills, how much she cared about her crew. I stayed up pretty late to finish the book, and the fact that it ended on such a good cliffhanger… it kept me up thinking about it. I need the second one as soon as possible, but the first one literally just came out :(
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author for the copy.
There's a female captain, a mysterious book and a heartless prince. There is exciting adventure and amazing friendships.
I think this book is in the top 5 books I've ever read, I loved every single part of it and wouldn't change a single thing in it. I loved the strong female characters, they were written as people that I would love to spend more time with and will anxiously await the next book in the series. I couldn't stop reading and at one point the battery on my e reader died and instead of stopping I plugged it into a power bank so I could finish. The characters were well rounded and well written, the adventure had me on the edge of my seat and when I got to the ending I wished I had the next book in hand so I could immediately continue the adventure. This was my first book by the author but I'm definitely going to check out all her other books.
5/5, I haven't enjoyed a book this much in a long time.
I absolutely adored escaping into the world of Oceanus. Kate is an excellent story teller, really immersing you into the world and the thoughts and feelings of the characters you meet. From the very first page, I fell in love with the FMC, Emery. She’s such a fierce, strong, loyal leader, and I enjoy diving into her mind. The book really focuses on found family and the characters involved each have colorful pasts and interesting stories that bring a lot of depth. I love all the subtle nods to fairytales that pop up while reading. I want to keep this review spoiler free, so I won’t get into specifics, but the story evolves pretty organically and is filled with interesting and exciting situations, mystery, tension and romantic undertones. There are pirates, gender bending roles, queer rep, POC rep, found family, fairy tale nods, witches, sirens, giants, genies, KRAKENS!! and even a hint at some sci-fi undercurrents. This book ends with a small cliffhanger and I’m excited to read the next installment.
Emerelda is a fiery sea captain, strong and fierce. While aboard her boat, I felt as though I could do anything, the sky was the limit. Omg...and the slow burn...oh how it had my heart aching for Ryder and Emery to just tell each other how they really feel! It was written perfectly and always kept me craving for more. Winnie is another character favorite of mine. Though, I enjoyed getting to know the entire crew and they are just as intriguing.
This has a mixture of fairy tale creatures and the magic system is easy to follow, yet complex enough to keep your attention.
This book has Syrens, Mermaids, Pirates, Genies, and so much more. I think the riddles thrown into the story, were one of my favorite parts. The book ends on a slight cliffhanger and I am all for it. I can't wait for book two!
This is the first Romance Fantasy/Fantasy Romance that I have read, however, I’m going to review it like any other novel.
Our story is written entirely in First Person, two chapters from Prince Ryder, an individual with no emotion and the second POV from Emery (Emerelda Mirabel) a seafaring captain of the ship The Kings Arcana. Our driving force to our plot is Emery, she has been tasked with a prophecy and decision to aid Ryder.
Along their maritime journey, they encounter a slue of monsters and beasts of the ocean’s depths and creatures of myth and legend. Scattered throughout the novel are references to particular “House of Mouse” characters: a captain named Snow, who eats red apples and has a band of dwarves with her. (One of many references or Easter Eggs.)
Thank you to the author for an ARC of Upon a Wicked Tide! This fantasy was packed full of action, magic, mystery, and tension and I was hooked from the very first chapter.
These characters were so well thought out and very unique. They all had troubling pasts that I can’t wait to find out more about in the next book. Despite these the linking pasts, they banded together and fought for each other.
I really loved this world of magic, islands, and sea. All the different mythical creatures and the imagery were just incredible. I also enjoyed the sprinkles of a Peter Pan retelling in the book.
The ending wasn’t too bad of a cliffhanger, but none the less, has me wanting book two immediately! I highly recommend giving this one a read!
I've never read one of her books before but after finishing this I want to read everything she ever published and will publish in the future! Everything about this book is amazing I was hooked from the very first line! I would 100% recommend this book if you love fantasy, adventure, witches, pirates, and slow burn romance!
This book will drag you in and leave you wanting more once you start it you won't be able to put it down. And the cliffhanger at the end 😭😭😭😭 I was not expecting it to end the that way.
All the characters and the interactions between them were written perfectly everything was done perfectly the plot is amazing too.
Over all this is now one of my favourite books it made me realise how much I truly love fantasy
This is an author that just keeps getting better and as someone who has been there since the beginning I am so excited to see what she brings next!
This book is a wonderful fantasy with a seafaring quest through dangerous waters.
A special mention for the way she flipped the usual old fashioned dynamic between females and males, we have males that need to be locked up as they can't be trusted with the sirens and so sailors are traditionally females.
I really loved our heartless Prince and I cannot wait to see more from him and see his story grow with our MC.
I love the crew and their dynamics and the riddles make it feel like we are on the quest with them trying to figure it out.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!
Deep below, dangers lurk in the cold dark water… but sometimes land is just as perilous.
Can Emery fight fate or is the future already written?
Is Ryder her salvation or her end?
A thrilling fast paced adventure, this book did not disappoint! I loved every second. With amazing detail and depth, I could smell the salty air and feel the ocean breeze on my face. The crew grows on you and becomes family, and you share in their triumphs and heartbreaks. Smoldering and slow burning, I loved the development between Emery and Ryder, and how believable it was. This was an amazing start to the series and I can’t wait for what’s next! I absolutely recommend picking it up!
First of all the writing of this box was a beautiful, seamless collection of characters and storyline!
Each character has a special connection to a fairy tale we know and love. This made getting to know each one a bit of a mystery and relatable at the same time.
Emery is a dynamic character that primary leads us on this journey. As the captain of the ship it is her job to untangle the riddles about their journey and make sense of the travelers on her ship.
I cannot stress enough how effortless the connection was between the characters and ties they had to different fairy tales. There was nothing about this book I didn’t like except that it ended and I want more ⚓️.
Loved every moment of this book, beginning, middle, and end! There is a cliffhanger but it is so worth it! This book has: Fated Mates Slight reverse Harem Sirens Strong Female Characters More troupes I want to leave secret so they are a surprise!
I was pleasantly surprised with the way Emery was written in this book. You don’t find many books about female ship captains that have such strength and determination. The friendships that develop in this book are amazing and make you laugh and cry, possibly all on the same page. I will definitely be picking up more of this indie author’s titles in the future!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was given this book as an ARC read and will give my honest option of the book. This book was so very interesting. You had a lot of your favorite children stories all wrapped into one story. IT was really amazing how she did it. The story kept me interested and of course now I want to read the next book but sadly have to wait. But I fell in love with all of the characters. The ships crew was such a strange pairing of people yet somehow they all fit together well and cared for each other. Well written book with a story that was easy to get lost in. Can't wait for the next one. I recommend the book hands down.
