Can Alana survive the King of Lies?

Every three years, the fae come to the human realm seeking their brides. This time – the Seelie King seeks his Queen.

When nineteen-year-old Alana is chosen to be his bride, she makes a promise to return to her orphaned younger sister – no matter the cost.

But when she’s stolen by the king’s wicked brother – the Unseelie King Feris – and taken away to his dark kingdom, her promise to escape becomes all the more important. King Feris is wild and unpredictable. His kingdom dark and treacherous. And worse are the unexpected feelings Alana gets every time she looks at his smirking face.

The Unseelie King claims to have a plan for her. If she can help him save his kingdom, he’ll return her unharmed to the human realm.

But how can she trust the wicked fae king?

And how can she keep her heart from falling for him while the realms threaten to collapse around them?

Bride of Scars & Song is an action-packed, delightfully flirtatious, taken-bride romance with a morally grey love interest. Readers who love enemies-to-lovers and slow burn will adore this first book in the Daughters of the Fae series.

boring, cringe, predictable, underdeveloped, unimaginative...

This was a pretty easy book to read. It was only 200 pages, so pretty fast paced. It was enemies to lovers/stolen bride/fae kingdoms sort of fantasy. I liked the characters on a whole, even though I think the FMC warmed up to the MMC pretty fast (within like three days). The book was really short, so I get it, but damn that was quick. I normally like more detail and to see how the characters evolve more.

The dynamic between the Seelie and Unseelie courts was pretty classic, but interesting. Again, I would’ve liked a bit more drama to flush it out with like side characters and such.

The ending had a twist and a cliffhanger, so fyi. I wanted to know a bit more about the revealed antagonist, but I’m assuming we will get more of that in the next book.

Fast paced, quick, surface level fantasy. Nothing wrong with it, but it wasn’t groundbreaking or anything terribly special or different.

Meh. Read it in a day but that’s because it was an easy read. I’d say it’s 2 and a half stars. Mostly enjoyed it for the romance, but the plot was very little. Not much depth. Side characters were just there but she loved them fiercely even though we didn’t really know them. The other king and court were boring. There was nothing to them. This book could have used more work to be better than what it was.

Also the main character is of course not as beautiful as her sister and has a scar and is “weird” for having calloused fingers so who would ever want her? Barf. Why can’t a female MC have SOME confidence for once? The scar was just there to make her seem bad ass and undesirable anyway when the story behind it isn’t even enough to warrant having such a thing.

Undecided if I’ll read book 2. Maybe if I’m bored and it’s also on KU.

Cliffhanger ending

The story starts somewhat similar in theme to Elise Kova's 'Deal With the Elf King', with the Fae needing a human queen to save their realm.

I enjoyed this story much more than 'Deal With the Elf King' because there was more personality to the characters, and the journey was more robust. Alana is a relatable FMC, who tries her hardest to do the right thing, no matter what it may cost her. Feris is also trying to be the best King of Unseelie that he can be, even though he is technically Seelie. Ryanth is the Seelie King who is so certain of himself that his word and decisions should be the only ones that matter. The tension between Alana and Feris was well done.

There were a few odd surprises from some of the characters who are just slightly different from what they are initially introduced as.

This could have been a 5-star read, but I can't stand cliffhangers. I was expecting this to be a stand-alone, with any future books in the series also being stand-alone stories for different characters.

The story has some violence and gore, but nothing too gruesome.

Super easy read. Overall, I loved it. I really bought into the MMC and enjoyed the magic and races. The FMC was a bit meh in bits - so she's revolting and undesirable because she has a scar and curves. Come on. 🤣 She wasn't unlikeable, but I just felt she could've had a bit more about her.

The secondary characters could have done with some developing. They were there but I didn't really care about them. Same with the worldbuilding tbh. It feels like there is a lot that can still be done. It didn't take away from the story, and I'm sure they will be ramped up in the next book.

The ending was a bit of a twist. I didn't realise it was a series, so I'd thought it was all going to be tied up with a bow. I immediately went on KU to see if the next one was on there.

To summarise, I liked the magic, world, and characters (even though more depth would've been great), loved the romance, and am already working through the next one in the series.

Fantastic Twist On Fae Bride Genre!

This book was just filled to the freaking brim with angst, found family, humor, snark, and romance! Plus, let's not forget the plot twists galore! Ohmygatos, this book hit all the troupes I love as well as have come to love. Not to mention, I really enjoyed the twist on the Fae bride/stolen bride troupe! Although, I was SO frustrated with the ending! IYKYK. *Winks*
Despite that, I'm seriously looking forward to the next book! Especially since I'm absolutely loving the unique spin on the different magics the human brides end up having. And (sighs dramatically) Feris. Really, I don't think I need to say more. *Double wink*

Over all this was a fairly good experience. There were a lot of things I liked about this book, one of my favourites being the magical lute that shows up (I love a good bard like vibe in a story).

But I also feel like it was rushed and could have been expanded more. I felt like I didn't have enough time with the characters to get emotionally connected to them, and would have liked some more about the magic of the world.

It's a fairly good story, though I think the ending fell a bit flat to me. Not a hard read, so if you're looking for a fae fantasy romance with seelie/unseelie courts, a barrier between worlds, and magical lutes then this might be the vibe you're looking for.

Such a wonderful book! This isn't my usual go-to genre but I absolutely loved this story and I can't wait for the second book. It was so captivating I would've read it all in one sitting if I could have, but sleep was necessary, unfortunately. I initially borrowed the book on Kindle Unlimited but loved it enough to buy it and just want to re-read it again. Alana and Feris are so sweet, swoony and charismatic. I can't wait to see where their story leads them.

Of course this ends on a cliffhanger. Now the wait for the next book to come out. The concept of the story is very unique and I enjoyed it. I had one small issue and that was an 18 year old FMC who hated everything but when they brought the shiny things out. She was all happy and I could like this. It made her seem stupid to me. I loved the MMC. He is a bold man with golden retrievers attitude and I love him. Just so you know this is a slow-romance with NO smut. And right now NO HEA!

I basically went into this story blind. I saw the author’s videos on TicTok but I didn’t realize this was YA book. But I am NOT disappointed! Just the opposite! This story does not read like a YA book.

I really enjoyed this book! The story line was intriguing. I didn’t want to put it down. I loved the budding relationship between Alana and Feris. Their banter was so good. And the plot twist and that cliffhanger!!!

I binged this book!! Was it most complex or imaginative? No but that didn’t stop it being enjoyable 🥰

I’ve been in the biggest reading slump for weeks. I’ve started about 10 books only to give up but this was the only book where I couldn’t put it down!!

It jumped straight into the action!! The plot was predictable but it’s also a addictive story line. I’ll forever read books with this plot even though I know what to expect

I liked how it ended aswell, I hopped straight into the second book ✨

I did not expect to like this book

But damnit I did, great writing great characters no sex y’all but woo it’s smoking Feris and Alana yes! I admit it I got sucked in and I don’t like pale ginger women but it was worth the read and looking for the continuation. Yes there were a few times I wanted to smack ole girl but anticipation was on point

Omg I loved this book! I love the cheekiness of the Mmc and how the mfc comes in strong with her preconceived ideas of the fae and especially the mmc. How she realised that not everything is how it seems. The tension and back and forth between the two… all of it! I cannot wait for the second but ok to be out.

Action packed Fantasy Romance

A fast-paced, well-written plot line with strategically placed surprises. The two reasons this book didn’t receive 5 stars from me is simply a personal preference for a little more romantic spice and the fmc was a little melodramatic for my taste. Even so, Alana was still a believable and heroic character.

It was a fun and quick read. It did have the one horse, one bed, and who hurt you tropes. It is fade to black though. It seemed a tad rushed and the main characters fell for eachother to fast in my opinion. Overall I liked it and will probably read the sequel!

I wish this book hadn't been so short! I enjoyed the story but another 100 pages would have done a lot to fill it out and make everything a lot smoother.
The TikToks for the author also made this seem like it was going to be relatively spicy but it's pretty tame and fade to black.

Almost DNF but stuck with it. Both world building building and character devolvement needs some fleshing out. Felt like the author had an idea for a major event but then just never wrote it. Will not read book #2.

This was bad. Felt like reading a rushed version of ACOTAR but all the ingredients (characters, world building, plot etc.) thrown into a blender and blended into a colourless and tasteless mash.
