Des Frères en Uniforme : Max

Rate this book

Oh my! It seems this weekend I had bad luck picking up book. Many 2 stars lately. Anyway, I was so impress with Matt, then I picked up Max.

Turns out Max is disaster. Amanda and Max have no chemistry whatsoever. Nothing. No vulnerable/sweet/swoon moment to make me rooting for them. Just plain insta lust and they got it on right away. And the smut scenes are so bad. Really bad that I cringed in some part.

Like I said, disappoitment.

BROTHERS IN BLUE: MAX (Brothers in Blue #1) by Jeanne St. James is a HOT contemporary romance read that introduces the reader to a rich, immature party girl that has her whole life turned upside down and a small town cop, who is an ex-Marine and all Alpha.

Amanda Barber is a young, rich girl partying all over Miami with her friends and no responsibilities. Suddenly, she has to move to small town PA to live in her dead father and stepmother’s home to care for her 22 year old special needs half-brother and his dog. She has never met Greg and Chaos due the messy divorce of her parents and has no idea how to deal with him or his needs.

I did not like Amanda at first, but as the story progresses and you see how she is trying to learn to help Greg and stand on her own two feet for a change, she pulled me to her side. You learn her backstory slowly, and like me, the small town folk did not care for Amanda at first either. She makes mistakes, but you also watch her mature quickly. She wants to go back to her old life at first, but things conspire to make her want to stay more and more as the story progresses.

Max Bryson is a third generation police officer in his hometown and the oldest of three Bryson boys. When he first runs into Amanda, he has trouble believing such an immature girl has been assigned the care of Greg, but even as her attitude chafes, he finds her extremely hot. The back and forth between these two was extremely well written. You can see in each encounter the strength in Amanda continues to grow as she stands up to him and takes control her own life and Greg’s. How much Max’s attitude changes towards Amanda is also realistically written. The emotional growth of both Amanda and Max is what makes this an engaging romance.

It was great getting to know all the secondary characters in this story, also. Max’s loving and stable parents and his teasing younger brothers. Not so nice, but necessary to understand Amanda were her mother and ex-boyfriend from Miami. I am looking forward to reading Marc’s story next.

Please Note: Although this is a small town love story it does contain many explicit sex scenes throughout the story. They are well written, integrated into the story and very, very hot!

2 stars and even that is generous

SPOILERS AHEAD

OK, I am CLEARLY in the minority here BUT OMG between Amanda and Max I wasn't sure who I disliked MORE at times!!!!!!

I really disliked Amanda from the start and pretty much never warmed up to her. She was a spoiled BRAT, her inner monologue ruined a lot of character for me. But was even worse was how insulting Max had been when he explained how he wanted their relationship to start, OMFG, this man (aka PUSSY) ughhhhh I am not sure what infuriated me more, his reasoning on why and how he wanted them to start off or the fact that she was like ok, jumping his bones in the same breath:(

I just can't even.......they were both IMMATURE and the lacked so much depth in their characters!!!!! Sorry, this is a bad rant BUT I love a cop romance and this was NOT it for me!

I liked this very much. City girl Amanda suddenly finds herself in a small town thrown into the role of care giver for her 22 year old special needs brother whom she’s never met. That angle alone made the book. Usually in cases like this it is children that they become guardians of. While trying to get acquainted with the town and her brother she has frequent run ins with Max the growly town cop. They are hilarious and hot together. Max of course has relationship issues and frequently bungles things with her, but Amanda lets him off the hook with his behavior. That’s my only issue really with the book. Any conflict is brushed aside for a roll between the sheets. A swift kick is what I wish she would have given him. This is a fun read. 4 stars.

He isn't looking for long term and she has no idea what she's looking for. When Amanda leaves Miami this party girl has no idea how much her life is going to change. Can this small town cop with be what fate has in store for her.

I really liked watching Amanda grow as a person and loved that she came to the realization of where she belonged on her own. I also enjoyed watching Max constantly saying the wrong thing at the wrong time and then trying to dig his way out.

A pretty easy book to read. According to the authors web page it's best to read this series before diving into her MC series. I'm sure it's not required but it's recommended. I'm a tiny bit OCD about reading in order. Also what's not to love about a hot sexy small town cop.
Max did his time in the Marines and now is a cop in his small town just like his father and grandfather and like his brother also. Max is the oldest with two younger brothers. All he wants to do is serve and protect the town he grew up in. A town where everyone knows everyone and everything about each other.
Amanda grew up with her mother in Miami and is a spoiled rich brat. She spends her time either partying or working as a bartender. The bartender part is just to annoy her mother. Her parents must have split up when she was young as she didn't have a relationship with her father or step mother. She has a twenty two year old brother that she has never met until after her, first father then step mother passed away. Her brother can't take care of himself so she goes to help take care of him. The whole town knows she is coming and not very welcoming. Even the hot cop seems to not like her. How does a party girl go about taking care of a little boy in a man's body and fit into a small town? She can't even take care of herself. What is it about that cop that haunts her dreams and seems to be there everytime she screws up?

Can be read as a stand alone and a whole lot of adult content

I liked the characters and where the story was going until about 55%. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I wouldn't go into detail, but at that point the way Max talks to Amanda is such a turn off that I couldn't connect to him throughout the rest of the book. Also, the way that Amanda allows it more than once turned me off on her too. Bummed, but I will not continue this series. Just not for me.

5 star review of Max (Brothers in Blue #1) by Jeanne St James

Audio Review

I love small town stories, throw in a totally hot and alpha cop and I am in heaven. Having read/listened to several books from Jeanne St James I was excited to dive in to what for me is a new series.

I was not disappointed. The narration from Ava Lucas and Jason Clark was spot on for these characters. I really loved the premise of this story. Spoilt rich girl Amanda Barber arrives in the small town of Manning Grove to take responsibility for her younger half brother who has special needs. Initially I wasn't sure I was going to like Amanda or Manda as her brother Greg calls her but thankfully I came around very quickly.

I loved the relationship that not only Amanda but Max had with Greg, it was truly heart warming. The chemistry between Max and Amanda was intense and it was amusing to listen to the love/hate relationship as it built.

I am looking forward to reading/listening to the other brothers stories.

Interesting story.

3,75 stars.

I've been planning on reading this author for a while, and even though it was a nice book, it wasn't what I expected.
The plot hooked me enough to keep me reading, but it didn't astound me as I thought it would. Maybe it's because this is one of the early works by this author, but I was under the impression the story would be more intense and poignant.

It was hard to feel Max and Amanda's chemistry, even their so call hatred toward each other. It felt a little flat and it lacked something, although I can't quite pinpoint what it is.

As I said, I was interested enough to keep going and I'll try this author again. Maybe another series might do it for me.

Jeanne St. James did a great job on this book. The story was well written and had a great plot. Max and Amanda were great characters. I enjoyed their story. They were good for each other. The attraction is strong and their chemistry was off the charts sizzling. They were made for each other.
This was a great story. Max and Amanda were great together.
Thank you, Jeanne St. James. Great work :)

I love how Manda took on her half brother and never once gave up on him. She had a lot of strength to do that. This book was amazing. Would of loved to give her mom what for 😂😂

Loved this book, when I had the chance to sit down with it, it was a page turner I couldn’t put down. Great plot line, great characters, really good SMUT IYKYK. All around such a great romance novel. But what can I say, I’m a sucker for a man in uniform.

Can there be a more annoying man than an ex-marine, now cop who is bossy? He met his match in Amanda. Can two people be more different but alike?

God i love a hot alpha !

Wow i just can't get enough of these sexy hot alpha brothers in blue.
I do love a man in uniform and max and marc and matt are freakin hot to trott.!. Max is the oldest brother in the Bryson family a cop in the manning grove police department he has swarn to protect and serve . He is controlling and bossy and he doesn't care one but its who he is. He doesnt want to settle down he doesnt want marriage hes happy to just live the single life with no ball and chain telling him what to do.
Then one day Amanda Barber comes along she is beautiful, fiesty, spoilt and is now the legal guardian of her half brither Greg who is interlectually impaired. She has never met him before as her minipulative mother kept her from her father and step mother now both her father and step mother died Amanda now has to grow up and be responsible for her brother his dog chaos and herself . Moving to manning grove from Miami was one sacrifice she wasnt sure she could do but in time she learnt that all she really had was her brother and she was going to do right by him no matter what.
Then along comes Max with his trusty citation pad and gives her a twenty five dollar ticket and all hell breaks loose sparks are flying in every direction and if given half a chance so would be there clothes. The sexual chemistry is off the charts hot but both are stubborn and won't give in .

Max invites Amanda and Greg to his parents for christmas trying to do a good deed only all it does is bring them closer and Amanda and Maxs mum Maryanne . All mary anne wants his for her sons to be married and give her grandbabies however thats like fighting an up hill battle unbeknownst to Max Maryanne starts teaching Amanda how to cook Maryanne is the mother that Amanda has always wanted she does what she does out of love and kindness and expects nothing in return where Amandas mother is sly cunning minipulative and controls Amanda well tries to . Eventually Max and Amanda give into the temptation they no longer can deny but Max still doesnt want his mother finding out because she will be picking out china patterns and planning a wedding before you can even blink.
With trials of looking after greg learning to cook and be responsible for all that entails Amanda promises her self that she can make it on her own she makes friends with Teddy a gay hairdresser who becomes her bff which exactly what they both need manning grove being a small minded town its been hard for Teddy to make friends and keep his buisness going and the residence of manning grove dont think Amanda is good enough to look after her brother especially her nosey next door neighbor.

Proving everybody wrong Amanda makes it her mission to be the best she can be for both her and greg.
But then like a dark cloud on a rainy day her mother shows up unannounced with Amandas cheating ex boyfriend and demands she comes home and has gone behind Amandas back to place greg in a home . Amanda is livid that her mother would do such a thing and tells her so but her mother slaps her in the face causing the nosey neighbor so call the police and next thing Max and Marc are there to save the day.
I loved that Amanda could see the differences between her mother and Maryanne and what its like to be in a family that truly love you deep down to your bones compared to a mother who only wanted nothing but control and money . Max in the end realised he loved Amanda and greg and he was fighting an up hill battle trying to deny his feelings any longer all amanda really wanted in the end was to be loved unconditionally even by a bossy alpha male like Max i love happily ever afters and these two certainly got theres as did Maryanne lol finally! .

** DNF @ 22% **

I feel like I've been DNF'ing a lot of books lately, so maybe this one's on me. Still, it was hard getting past the heroine, who is indeed spoiled and immature as the blurb and some reviewers make her out to be. As someone who helps take care of a disabled relative, I seriously could not relate to her in the slightest.

pouting

Then there's the instant attraction between the MCs -- upon meeting, he apparently can't even think straight, so attracted is he to the heroine. Who, of course, stutters and/or noticeably licks her lips whenever she's around him. (Am I the only one who doesn't turn into a cartoon character when coming across someone I'm attracted to?? Why do authors make their characters act like this?)

love

I almost forgot -- after the first and brief meeting, they're each already having sex dreams about the other. I mean, come on!

Regardless of all of this, I was still willing to see this one out (like I said, the problem was probably all me), but what did it for me was when the heroine -- who hails from Miami, Florida -- spoke to her Hispanic ex in Spanish... or tried to, at least. The sentence that she said was: "No me llama otra vez." As someone who speaks the language, I can tell you that this attempt at Spanish can only be regarded as "butchering." Even Google Translate could've done a better job. (Seriously, it does -- in this case, even translates what she was trying to say perfectly.)

spanish

Anyhoo, I couldn't take it anymore, so I gave up.

Amanda comes to town to take care of her brother who can’t live on his own after his mother dies. She is coming from a life of leisure a party girl who really don’t have any responsibilities.
She is really thrust into this new life with no safety net and I love how she just does what needs to be done.
She gets a lot of side eyes and people who don’t believe she can do it. I really didn’t like that part of the story especially coming from her love interest he says some underhanded things that made think of him as a dink!

Max is one of the local cops and he and Amanda run into each other a lot, he doesn’t want anything long term like at all. But he can’t stop coming around, something about Amanda has him all turned around.

This story was sweet and I loved that Amanda finds she has more grit than anyone expected even herself.

Greg is Amanda’s brother and he is the sweetest, he really steals the show. I can’t imagine what it was like for him to have his safe world turned upside down when not only his father passes but then his mother and he is now in the hands of his sister. Yes, he is excited she is there but he just doesn’t understand why his mom isn’t coming back. The one scene had me in tears.

I loved the narration how could I not, Ava Lucas is quickly becoming one of my favorite female narrators. She just brings these stories that extra special thing you want when you’re listening. Jason Clarke is a fantastic narrator so of course, I enjoyed his side of thing. :)

Max is the oldest of three brothers who live in small town America. They have all served in the Marines and then came home to serve on the small town police department. Max is definitely an alpha male with a possessive streak. He's sexy and can make you want to fan yourself. Amanda is the big town rich party girl who reluctantly comes to Manning Grove to assume care of her mentally challenged half brother. You can tell Amanda has the right motivation but has a way to go to gain maturity after being the spoiled rich bitch. I wouldn't say it's insta-love but it's definitely insta-lust. There are such heart warming instances of Max and his family treating the half brother, Greg, with love and respect. One thing for sure, Amanda may miss the big city but she becomes so protective of Greg and his dog, it will warm your heart.
I first read this authors series, Dirty Angels MC, and enjoyed that series very much. I have now moved on to book two in this series about the brother Marc.
All available on KU. No cheating and a sweet romance with a strong sense of family.

Okay, so the story line of this book was good. I will give it that. It’s a good story. I can imagine it being on Hallmark Channel. (Excluding the steamy scenes. Haha)

Anyways, character development was terrible. Certain scenes would happen where there was supposed to be more meaning behind and we never got that from the book. It was confusing to me too how Max pursues Amanda in the beginning and then all of a sudden he didn’t want a real relationship. All of that development and back story wasn’t there.

I ended up just going with the flow of the story because it was clear it was just bopping from point to point with no “story” to pull it together.

That being said, once I dropped my expectations it was okay. It was an easy read, and in the end I felt good about how it ended.

DNF 14% - Finding Amanda extremely immature. Anyone who would remove a personalized license plate and then drive the car with no license plate just because she didn't like what it says, though it is in no possible way offensive, AND who takes responsibility for her special needs adult brother yet makes zero effort to learn exactly what his needs are or how to help him, really doesn't interest me. I assume she may be written in such a way that she redeems herself by the end of the story, but I just can't be bothered to read on.

I’ve read many of Jeanne’s books, so I was excited to read these (I wanted to read Trip’s story but it said to read these first) and I was disappointed. I read the entire book but I wasn’t captured by the story. I feel like there wasn’t a lot of romance between the two main leads - I (personally) would have liked a bit more between them than just sex, I feel like there could have been a lot of potential but it just missed it’s mark! - but I still think that she is a fantastic author and I’m in love with her MC books, so we will see how the next one goes! :)

Yea this book must be for young adults. What did it for me was Amanda's immature tantrums about wanting her partying lifestyle back and how she wants to go home (she pouted about this often)...is she some 18 yr old college debutante or what....and I NEVER understood what Max saw in her besides the hot no string attached sex. Both were lame IMO.
