Return symbolizes the hope of making it back to the people who need you despite all odds.
In desperate need of supplies, Elijah ventures into a city teeming with undead. But when his perilous journey goes awry and he’s backed into a corner, the only thing keeping Elijah fighting for his life is the promise he made to seven-year-old Lionel—to return.
This was my second foray into Alice B. Sullivan's zombie apocalypse world, and it was just as exciting as the first. And perhaps even a tad more heart-wrenching. I'm loving this world that Sullivan has crafted and how it seems that each story focuses on completely new characters that you can't help but fall in love with, doing their best to survive this deadly new world they've been thrust into. As well as maybe uncover some new mysteries about this frightening virus. If horror stories about zombies are something that interests you at all, then what are you waiting for? Go read these books right now!
This is an engaging and emotional story, just the right length for an afternoon or a couple of lunch breaks. Excellent pacing, action, and prose make for an enjoyable story.
This was a fast but compelling read. A kid, protecting a younger kid in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Scary, engaging, imaginative, and fun for those who like their world ending disasters to involve the undead.
Return is a fantastic tension-filled story. Heartbreaking in a multitude of ways and just uplifting enough to feel satisfying. The premise is simple: Eli needs to venture into a city overrun with zombies in order to find food for himself and Lionel; the little boy under his care. So they'll have enough to make the trip somewhere safer. In order to have the best chance of making out alive, he leaves Lionel behind with the promise to return.
That's it. That's the story. Sounds simple enough, but trust me when I say A LOT happens to Eli, and the more the story develops the more harrowing the prospect of keeping his promise becomes.
As with most books by the author, this is, in my humble opinion, a must-read for any fan of the zombie general. And for anyone who enjoys emotional character-driven stories.
Return begins by dropping us into what appears to be a familiar world of undead and nearly dead alike. This backdrop, however, quickly gives way to an all together new and exciting image of the apocalypse. Sullivan wastes no pages as she constantly raises the stakes. Long term fans of the genre will find surprises and powerful character work within the taut thriller. Zombie fans should not miss this book.
A new take on a Zombie Apocalypse. An easy and interesting read that pulled me in. Something about the way the author developed the main character’s need to keep a promise kept me turning pages as I also got hooked on them keeping that promise to a child. Fast moving with lots of action. Some new kinds of twists where we see a little into what “changing” might be like and zombies that still have some of their human traits. A Unique Apocalypse tale!
An engaging, short tale that feels like it could be part of a larger work. I enjoyed the characters and felt invested in their fortunes. My only real gripe was that it ended so soon! I look forward to more from Miss Sullivan.
A really good quick read! A nice bite of a zombie story! Great to have a little more from this exciting world! I do really like all the works of this author & I do recommend!
