Snowed in with an alien in enemy territory, I may not reach my destination before Christmas. Can Frost help me deliver my presents to the orphanage on time?

I need to deliver a shipload of presents to a colony orphanage before Christmas. After my parents died in the Evarian-Human War, I grew up in this orphanage. They gave me a home and a new start on life. Now I fly supply runs from one planet to another, donating the credits I earn to ensure other orphans get everything they need.

But when my ship crashes during a snowstorm in an alien forest, an Evarian warrior, Frost, saves me. He’s a gruff guy with a heart as lonely as mine. We ride out the storm together, and by the time the sky clears, I’m falling hard for someone I used to consider my enemy.

Frost promises he’ll get me to the orphanage before Christmas. But once we’ve delivered the presents, will I be able to tell him goodbye?

Do you enjoy spice in you eggnog? Then Frost is the holiday book for you! AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.

It's August, and I just read a Christmas themed alien romance novella 🤭🤭. And I liked it! 🤭🥳

It was quite cute and sweet and a little bit spicy. With lots of joy, once Alina managed to fulfill her mission 🫶.

Long story short, he rescued her, they spent some time together, they fell in love and recognized each other as mates. I'm not sure what mates represent in detail in this world, but it's ok. It's quite clear that they eventually loved each other.

Oh, and now the thing I don't understand in so many of these short reads ... the out of nowhere proclamation of love. Lust I get, wanting to know each other I get, maybe also recognizing that there's something special between them, unique etc., but saying they love eachother after two days, yeah, that I do not get.

But, in the end, this one was an adorable read. It's too bad that it ended quite abruptly. I would have loved to see his reaction at the news she had 🥹😉. It would have been a much complete ending... just a few more pages 😂🤭.

What to expect
- he's an alien, she's human 👽💁‍♀️
- humans and the alien species have been at war and there's a treaty of peace between the nations, but there are some physical territories that each one should not pass, and of course she ends up in the alien territory, and hence some danger and drama
- size difference (of course, he's huge, and she's his tiny human 🤭)
- instant lust / love, mates
- Christmas theme 🫶 this part was cute
- quite sweet at times
- some spice, not overdone
- HEA, epilogue one year later

These two fell in love ridiculously fast. I love you's like two days in, and there wasn't even a mate bond but there was a whole lot of baggage that would definitely stopped them from moving at light speed. The relationship was just too fast and nothing was developed enough. Idk, it was fine, it's a holiday alien book, it's pretty much what you expect.

I was admittedly surprised by how much I liked this, but both Alina and Frost were such sweet characters that, by the end of it, you can't help but be on their side!

It's a festive, holiday-themed romance, and seeing as this is Christmas Eve and all, a perfect time to read it! In fact, Alina herself takes it upon herself to play Santa to the orphans at the orphanage where she was raised, and she needs to borrow Frost's sleigh (and, let's face it, his heart) to make it a perfect Christmas for everyone!

Now, first thing's first: is the whole human-Evarian thing already established in another book by Ava Ross or another romance writer? Just curious, because everything in this world is way too well established, that I feel there have to have been some other romances, maybe full-length ones, that set up what this world is and have more exposition to them. Oh, you'll understand things just fine in this, as it's pretty small scale, but seriously: is this world/rules already established in a previous work?

Ahem, but anyway, the romance itself, as I said, is very easy to support, worldviews aside. In fact, the only thing that I was disappointed in is that I was kind of hoping for Alina and Frost to make more of a stand by the end--you know, be that "first example of inter-species bridging, as sides have to recognize them as a couple, and maybe move past just a fragile truce". But...unfortunately, that doesn't quite happen, and maybe it was a lot for me to expect out of just a cutesy, short holiday romance, but oh well!

Will be checking out the other books of this series, so be sure!

Such a cute story of how love will always conquer all odds. It's a little like Romeo and Juliet but they had space flight and he was an alien. Also our two races were at war for a long time and just a few years back they made a very fragile truce that involved no contact in enemies territory. Our FMC crashes right through Enemy territory into a barn. The story line is very interesting and then we mix Christmas and miracles and it all makes sense!

Such a lovely story and beautifully written, the book is full of emotional moments, you'll get wrapped up in it right from the start. It's not even an opposite attract kind of story, it's so much more, like war, survival, PTSD, and so much raw emotion. Alien and Frost find a love they never expected, but their situation was like alien Romeo and Juliette multiplied by 1000, doomed, but still trying to snatch a moment of happiness before real life crushes them. I loved this story! It has all the holiday feel-good vibes too. This whole series so far is making me look forward to reading the whole holiday collection!

Rounding up for this rating because I’m new to the genre and feel like I have a lot to discover before giving this a 2. This is a solid 2.5 for me.

On the plus side? This felt like an overly smutty Christmas romance featuring a lonely self made woman and a mountain man who saves her life when she gets stranded. The only catch is he has a tail and is an alien. On the down side? This monster romance was…the same as any Hallmark movie you can find playing this time of year. When I went into a monster romance I kind of expected more differences than a couple anatomical things.

There’s a lot this story has me pondering. 1) These books seem to hinge on the MC being an exaggeration of the idea of an alpha male from a physical standpoint. And that intense desire is both not uncommon but also super weird to me. 2) This is a short book. So short, that it reads like a quick moralistic story that could be geared towards kids. Except it’s a quick moralistic porno geared towards adult women. But that tone and hitting those same beats of “simple concept…life lesson” is bizarre to me.

There’s not much world building and the stuff that was there seems thrown in. It’s basically earth but with some different creatures and different names for time but that seems to translate to the same amount of time on Earth? This is insta-love, too. Like, there’s a lot of talk of “we should be enemies” but the book is about 5 days long and the amount of smut that’s crammed into those 5 days between two warring species in a tense situation is mind boggling (or maybe it makes perfect sense?)

At the end of the day this was weirdly sweet and I can see why people love these but this is the type of book I would expect to live as an outline in someone’s notebook and not something I’d expect to see published.

~ STORY 📝 ~

A lovely Christmas romance between a sort of alien orc and a human.

After Alina crashes into the barn of Frost, she wakes up in the company of that Evarian man who's nothing like she was told they were. He's kind and something about him calls to her.

Frost too feels it, and even with the risk of having a human found in his house, he can't bring himself to turn her in to his government.

They're mate, but their people are enemies and their law doesn't allow them to be together.

This is primarily a love story and I loved both MCs. The story begins cozy enough but then action enters the chat. It's globally a nice story, heart-melting at times, but I felt like their love story was too fast (even considering the fated mate thing).

I would've liked maybe more of a fight? more building tension between them? It's not like they didn't have reason to be more cautious after all.

Overall, it's still a cute and short alien romance 🫶🏽

~ SPICE 🌶️ ~

This book is a relatively fast burn but low build-up. Explicit scenes are only a few, detailed but simple.

If you read this book you'll be in for:

❄️ oral s£x
❄️ tail play
❄️ lil' size difference
❄️ lil' mating frenzy

A human lady playing Santa Claus who ends up crash landing on the wrong side of a planetary border sounds like the setup for a little danger. Fortunately for Alina, Frost ends up being the one she crosses paths with (or, well, crashes her ship into his barn) and he's tired of war and maybe also a little tired of being alone on his mountain.

While the two are a teeny bit wary of one another at first (Alina, more than Frost, tbh), THINGS HAPPEN pretty quickly. Soon the two are tangled up and trying to figure out if there's a way for them to be together in the long term.

Throw in a dangerous time to be on the wrong side of the border (for both of them), some kids hoping for some Christmas cheer, and a steamy night spent in an abandoned cabin. *thumbs up*

Space Santa crashes into love

The aftermath of a bitter war is a brittle peace, and when human Alina crashes on the way to deliver gifts to an orphanage, her landing on the wrong side of the border means TROUBLE of the treaty breaking, shooting kind. Frost the alien finds her strange, then strangely attractive, and the upshot is love in the time of stealth border crossing. This is a holiday love story focused on giving and forgiving, and peace to all beings of good will, whatever planet they love on. What's not to like?

This was absolutely insta love and a little too fast for me. However overall I enjoyed this a lot. The couple was cute I like the story and the ending was adorable.
Something I didn’t really get however is why the two species are strictly separated but in the orphanage there were kids of both. What happens when they get older, are the Evarian kids send back to their zone??? That didn’t make much sense.
However I still enjoyed this a lot.

This is short but super sweet, The characters are fleshed out enough in such a short space of time that you come to love them quickly, so much so i actually wanted more to this story and it to be a bigger book, the world is described perfectly and sounds lovely, i would loved to have known more about some of the side characters hence why i would have preferred to have a bigger book, i would definitely pick up this authors work again

Was a cute fated mate Christmas story.

I enjoyed it, but not enough to really recommend it.

I think that the history between races wouldn't have let them love each other as quickly as they did. Could have used a bit more conflict in their meeting. That would have helped them resolve issues in a wider span of the story.

It did go into the death of Alinas' parents way too often. I think after one or two mentions of it. That should be enough. There is no need to mention at every Pov of hers.

Great short story

Enjoyed the spin on the Santa story.
Wish they had way to settle the two species intermingling. Maybe for future book, have them negotiate a Switzerland neutral trading, and paired couple place

💝 “I want you. With you, mate, my cup is half full.”
~~~
Frost is a magnificent male! He’s so kind, gentle and honest. Even more, he’s so protective, patient and thoughtful. I couldn’t help but absolutely adore everything about this scarred Evarian warrior. He’s lost so much and, after the Evarian-human war and the fragile peace was forged, all Frost wants is to live in peace and solitude. But fate has other plans for him…
Alina is used to living on her own, transporting supplies from one place to another. I loved that woman so much! She’s so kind, caring and compassionate. Even more, she’s so brave and I loved her feistiness. And once a year, Alina also becomes Santa for the children in the human-Evarian orphanage on Evaria. All she wants to give the children joy and the last thing she expects is to crash land on enemy territory.
I loved everything that happened between Alina and Frost! They should be enemies, but from the moment they met, their attraction was undeniable. I loved that both saw beyond their people’s beliefs and together discovered how well they fit together. And their banters and teasing were such fun to read! Even more, I really enjoyed the time they spent together getting to know one another and doing so many fun and Christmasy things. And did I mention there is only one bed? And a snow storm? Oh, we all know where things are going! 😏 Frost and Alina were such a perfect match and when they finally gave in to their undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were scorching hot! Their love might’ve been forbidden, but it was just right and both more than deserved to find happiness with each other! And the epilogue was absolutely perfect!
In addition, the worldbuilding was fantastic! I’d really loved to know more about the Evarians and their conflict with the humans.
Overall, the story is a wonderful and fun read! It’s filled with suspense, danger, adventure, humor, festivities, hot romance and magnificent characters.
I absolutely loved every page of it!
I have to say rarely does an author pull at my heart strings enough until I have to take a moment before I can write a review....this pulled at my heart strings.
Alina comes back to the orphanage every year at Christmas so the children there will not feel left out and thrown away by the Evarian or the Humans due the Evarian-Human war. At eight years old and after losing her parents, Alina come to the orphanage where she is molded by human woman and an Evarian woman. She has lived her entire life in service to and support of the Orphanage until she crashes on her way there into the barn of Frost, a retired, scared Evarian diplomat. Frost lost his parents and sibling to the war too. He has retired and decides to live as far away from people - Human and Evarian - as possible until Alina. When she crashes, he goes to check on the barn and his animals and feels the pull of her. Not only does he rescue her but his heart thaws along with her heart. They both learn on over a few days that they not only share a common ground but feel the same about each other and want to be together.
The question is can they through all the crap going on, the laws in place and Christmas looming find a way? I can say this book reminded me that no mater our difference in appearance or background there is common ground if we just listen and talk it through.
Ava you always bring the condition of the heart right to the surface!!!!! Thank you!!!!
Review of Frost
By Ava Ross
I Loved It!
Alina had lost her parents in the Evarian - Human War and was raised in an orphanage near the Evarian border. Since the time she bought her first spaceship, she has always brought presents to the orphans currently living at the orphanage on Christmas. On her way home this year, she ran into an unexpected meteor shower and sustained damages that caused her to crash land on the Evarian side of the border.
Frost is an Evarian who also lost his parents in the war. He was involved in negotiating the peace treaty between the two races and chose to live in the mountains far away from people. He heard something slam into his barn and raced outside to find a small spaceship lodged into the corner of his barn. Lo and behold, Alina emerged from the hatch.
As Alina recovers from the crash and waits out a terrible blizzard in Frost’s home, the two learn to trust each other and share details from their respective lives. I love that this romance was a (relatively) slow burn and that the author wrote so much depth into the characters. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves alien-human romances and who loves Christmas stories. It’s a heart-warming read!
Determined
Honestly this fascinating storyline took me through all levels of my emotions.
One minute I was laughing at Frosts antics as he's trying desperately to understand some of Alinas terminology to finding Ms Ava Ross's description of how deeply both of these characters suffered while trying to make a choice that keep them safe and protected was extremely intense.
Full of Christmas sentiment as Frost tries to understand what all the fuss is about regarding Christmas as Alina is determined to create a sense of the Christmas spirit with no decorations or atmosphere teaching Christmas songs becomes the thing that creates the atmosphere and laughter.
One minute the author has the two characters being very suspicious of one another to find that even though they have been declared enemies it becomes very apparent the two of them have far more similarities than differences and the feelings they find growing deeply between them cannot be stopped, will they be able to take a huge step of faith and believe that what they have found is worth fighting for.
I found this fascinating storyline took me to both ends of the spectrum with my emotions affecting me deeply while experiencing everything described by this extremely talented Author.
Leading with love instead of hate
I loved Alina and Frost’s snowbound, one bed, forced proximity, forbidden alien romance. This story had a good balance of big feels, sweet love, real life issues, and a sprinkle of spice. Humans and Evarians spent many years in a deadly war, thousands were killed, a truce was negotiated, and now the planet is divided into species based territories. Alina is a human pilot who grew up in an orphanage after the war killed her family. She is on her annual trip to bring Christmas presents to the orphanage. Frost is a retired Evarian diplomat who now lives up in the mountains tending his livestock. He too lost his family in the war. When Alina crashes during a snowstorm into Frost’s barn on the edge of the Evarian territory where humans are not allowed, Frost takes her into his home. While they wait out the storm, their instant attraction deepens into more but a HEA seems impossible. Despite being short, the story was well written, the characters had dimension and the storyline was engaging. 4.5 stars.
I found this series after Ella Maven’s newsletter clued me in to Baki’s story. I love Ava Ross’s other work; Mail-Order Brides of Crakair, Fated Mates of the Xilan Warriors, & Galaxy Games. This book was no exception. Frost and Alina had a Romeo and Juliet kind of story, only without the unfortunate suicide in the end. These two found a way to be together, even though their two races had been at war for years prior and it’s basically forbidden for the two to be on each other’s side of the planet. I didn’t think I was going to like this book, but I was pleasantly surprised to love it. 🫶🏻 My only critique would be that I wish we could have read Frost’s reaction to her pregnancy. I don’t know why, but whenever babies are involved, I love reading the male’s response. 😅🥹 Still, highly recommended.
loved it!
I love reading little Christmas stories during the holidays! And this one was so sweet, Alina crashed she ship on the wrong side of the border, threatening the fragile treaty between the humans and Evarians. When Frost finds the small injured human he knows he can’t just leave her out in the storm to die in the cold, nor can he turn her in to the authorities to suffer the consequences of breaking the treaty due to circumstances beyond her control. Though both are on edge at first they quickly find solace in their mutual tales of loss, pain and deep loneliness, leading them to fall deeply for each other in a very short time. When the storm clears they have to load up her ship and make a dash for the boarder and safety, pouring as much love and emotion into every moment before they’re forced apart.
A wonderful Christmas story that brings Alina and Frost together. They are from different sides of a years long conflict that both sides recently negotiated a truce. Both Alina and Frost lost their parents during the war and heard awful stories about their enemy. Yet Alina and Frost do not see an enemy when they look at each other.
Ava has developed amazingly rich characters, backstories, and locations. The reader is drawn into their conflict with old ideas and the emergence of new. The story flows and the steam builds and builds. There is danger, fear of discovery, comfort, Christmas traditions, fated mates and so much more. I appreciated the plot, with twists, that moved me through so many emotions.
Questo genere di letture non fanno al caso mio. Lo so bene, eppure continuo a tentare di trovarne una che possa sinceramente piacermi.. una sorpresa inaspettata, al pari della serie Ice Planet Barbarians, di Ruby Dixon.
Purtroppo, in questo caso, i miei tentativi non hanno portato a nulla.
Continuerò a provare? Si, sicuramente.
Frost non è riuscito a conquistarmi, ma spero che altri possano trovare in lui quello che io avrei voluto trovarvi. La storia è troppo veloce, il romance troppo affrettato.
Accade tutto troppo in fretta.
Il potenziale c'è, ma per quanto mi riguarda non è stato sfruttato abbastanza. Con qualche piccolo (grande) accorgimento in più, questa storia sarebbe stata.. non dico bellissima, ma quanto meno piacevole.
I’m usually a fan of these types of books (hottie alien love) but this was a miss for me. The story felt repetitive and didn’t seem to go anywhere. Lots of anxiety building, based on possibly being caught as an inter-species couple but it built up to nothing.
The MMC was too much of a passive marshmallow and the spice was minuscule (2/5🌶️ max). I need more of everything. More spice and if not, then definitely more story. The relationship building was good but not enough to keep the story interesting and the non-stop narrative about the past war and the realization that the government may have lied about it (on both sides) felt a little to on the nose for our current political climate (way to obvious agenda pushing by author).
3.2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 1.5 🌶️. This was a cute, wintery, trapped in a log cabin with only one bed type novella. If that cabin had a charming and ripped green alien in it, who could do all sorts of things with his tail.
Alina gets some bother trying to land on the human side of the planet to deliver Christmas presents to the orphanage she grew up in. She crashes into Frost’s barn. And him, and his animals aren’t best pleased about it at first.
The two quickly get a connection and make the most of the few days they have together before having to run. Alina teaches Frost her Christmas traditions, and he falls for her hard.
The ending was cute and I will probably read more of these holiday novellas from Ava Ross in the future!
Holiday Book Perfect for Any Day of the Year - Alina & Frost
Alina & Frost have both been through unimaginable trauma, yet they chose to move on in positive, helpful, peaceful ways. Although their species had been at war with one another & they both lost their respective families during that war, at least a peace treaty ended the war. The treaty is meant to keep their species apart, but due to an unexpected space craft crash, Alina & Frost meet & it is a beautiful story that unfolds.
It is sweet, lovely, sexy & a Christmas love story that can be read anytime.
The above blurb covers the plot to this short story. Emotions between Frost and Alina run high and it would be fair to call it instalove. She has crashed into a zone where she is absolutely not allowed, with death being the penalty. Frost helps her disguise her ship and they take refuge in his cabin during a blizzard. One thing leads to another. He indulges her desire for a Christmas tree.
He helps Alina travel to an orphanage, her original destination, once the snowfall diminishes. They are tracked by drones which must be incapacitated. After their safe arrival Frost returns to his home, leaving Alina bereft. All is not lost, however.
This is a sweet and steamy Christmas romance. Alina's ship crashes on the wrong side of the alien world and into a barn owned by an Evarian. She was supposed to land on the human side where the orphanage is. She grew up in that orphanage. Frost, an Evarian and loner, finds Alina. He doesn't report her to the Evarian authorities as it's illegal for her to be where she is. Due to snow storms, they must stay in his home at least temporarily and they find getting to know each other is eventful as they fall in love. But can a human and an Evarian, who are enemies, hang on to their love? Easy to read and a happily ever after.
