I picked up this book while it was free because I thought it had a really fun name. It was a light, easy read, but there were many flaws and things that took away from the reading experience. The biggest issue for me was that everything was too easy. Quinn doesn't have to learn how to use her magic, and her magic basically is limitless. There is really no conflict, because she can do anything with her magic. In addition, there really wasn't any character development, which was disappointing, because it seems like Quinn and Aldric could be interesting characters. There were also some grammar/spelling errors (dilapidated vs. dilapidated, enthused vs. ensued, and lots of plural vs. singular confusion within the same sentence) that were hard to ignore. I hope that some of those things get improved as the series progresses.

Clunky and Convenient

I really wanted to like this one. Unfortunately, it fell short. While the concept was great, and the ideas there, everything came too easy for the story's heroine, Quinn. From the beginning we learn very little about her past life in modern times. She is instantly thrown into a medieval style world. Then there is no stumbling. She pretty much instantly knows everything and understands how to correct every issue that crops up. Beyond what someone educated from now would logically have the ability for, even if they became over powered with magic. She doesn't struggle with the magical changes and learns how to use her own new power almost as if playing a rpg video game on easy mode. Eventually even gains her very own Ironman's Jarvis style tutorial voice that fills in the blanks she didn't think to add. No one is really shocked by her strangeness either. It is all instantly accepted and applauded.

It also often felt like the author was most likely hungry as she sat down to write. So many meals the heroine preps descibed step by step. If the story had any more recipes, it could possibly second for a cook book.

I really don't mean to bash this story. I debated doing a long review at all being as disappointed as I was upon finishing the book. I don't like being negative. As I said, I really wanted to like it. I do enjoy time travel stories. The description of this made me think of "Timeline," a movie I adore. It is just a shame this story has the bones, but lacks the meat. It would only take a second look by the author to better flesh out details, correct some grammar and fact errors, and insert some strife for her characters to make it so much better.

fantasy

The story is incomplete but interesting. Everything is too easy with the hero and heroine having too much power and magic. Make a home and castle but bring in a microwave and tv to a medieval land. Only once did using her powers drain her and make her tired. She never has anything she can’t create and some of it why create? Pills that fix everything in the body in only seven days, people who are illiterate but can accept anything, why an elevator and automatic doors, washing machines, tvs, heated floors? This reads like a game where the player never makes a mistake. The beginning talks about a dragon Quinn has raised and an imminent invasion but doesn’t get the reader anywhere near that point.

More a description of first aid rescue teams than a fantasy romance.
Everything happens way to easy and none of the characters really has to work or fight for anything.

Mary Sue

While I appreciated that Quinn didn't panic and cry she was also just too much. Too much power, no growth. She just comes in and bludgeons everyone over the head with her awesomeness. The things she introduces they have no way of replicating with medieval tools. Instead of adjusting things to them she just throws modern tech at them. I was ok with her helping them get healthier, her healing, and small conjurings. But hand sanitizer, mini fridges, hot tubs, elevators? Just too much. These things only exist because of her magic. There's no way they can replicate it themselves. And so many things were passed over without explanation. Why are they afraid to eat fruit and berries from the woods? How do their farm animals survive on rice? Oats, grass, hat, sure. Rice isn't nutritious for horses and cattle. It'd work in small doses for chickens, pigs, and goats, but still, couldn't make up their entire winter diet. Why do they assume Aldric killed his wife? Word about the dragon would have gotten out, people travel for trade, right? They took out the monsters but there invaders, too. They didn't set up any defenses, no worries about a wall, or posting guards around the structure where the remainder of their people are. And I want to know how a people who make oak porridge haven't eaten rice when it's so plentiful. If they know how to process acorns (which requires cracking, leaching, baking, and grinding into flour or gritty bits) but haven't figured out how to hull rice...it just doesn't make sense. There's fiction and then complete suspension of all disbelief.

Fantastical imaginings abound

I guess the old adage is true, no good deed goes unpunished. Quinn Chen wakes up still Quinn, but a Fairchild instead of who she thought she truly was. But upon her death and reincarnation becomes friendship, family, and a love that expands not only to the man she was forced to marry but to his land and his people.

Alexia Praks weaves a fantastical tale of new meets old, and old meets new so seamlessly that you can’t help but fall in love. The characters are created such that you can’t even help but to love the one-horned demon child. I can’t wait to see what she has to offer me next.

Once you pick it up you won’t want to put it down, so be prepared.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I DNF'd this one at 54%

I actually quite enjoyed this one at first. It reads like an isekai anime in book form. Or for those not familiar with anime it's about a girl who dies and then gets reincarnated in a fantasy world and she has special powers. The problem is that it quickly turns into a power fantasy with the main character being able to do everything.
She can do every type of magic and have amazing healing powers. She can create literally any items, food or clothing she can imagine and bring them tot his fantasy world. She can test people for nutrients they're lacking and create pills based on that. She can curse or change things about other people. It was just too much and that last one was what got to me when she caused three people to be afflicted with something. It just felt like she was basically a god in this world and could do anything she wanted. It just wasn't interesting and I felt what she did was wrong even if the people she punished were evil.

… this just felt so unfinished? nothing was ever really explained? girlie woke up in a medieval world, after tragically passing away in ours and immediately learned how to use her magic? out of nowhere we’re told everyone around her assumes she is a boy when really she is little miss super stunning? she feeds the warriors coke and pancakes? at some point her magic ability turned into tony stark’s j.a.r.v.i.s.? what? is? happening?

anyway, i still had a fun time reading this and on paper it could’ve been a great story but sadly it was executed quite poorly.

Where to start. The idea was nice, but when they started describing her hair and eye colour, the Mary Sue alarm bells started ringing.
Way too powerful protagonist, waltzing over everyone with their magic.

Also, it is oat porridge, not oak. Perhaps they meant a brand but when writing about rye and oak grain… yeah no.

Almost DNF.

WARNING!!! RANT AHEAD!!!+SPOLERS.

Dnf at 38%. Grabbed this book when it was free, and was super excited. As a long time anime and manga fan, with Isekai being my favorite trope, I have been looking for more western Isekai style novels. Thought I found a perfect fit! The beginning was spot on, even an homage to the infamous 'Truck-kun' that is often found in many isekai. Reincarnation into a new body, complete with memories to get the MC started. Everything was going so well!

... Then the author activated easy mode. Not even easy, like kid mode, or god mode. It was such a a let down.
Whoosh, modern knowledge easily converted into magic? Check. Magic with seemingly no, I repeat NO restrictions? Double check.

This is the issue. I can see having OP magic, (heck it's extremely common in isekai) but, all the powers that magically let you create ANYTHING from NOTHING??? There is no struggle. Nothing to overcome. Just 'Lah dee dah! Oh? I think I will magically fabricate a double cheeseburger and a 2 liter of Coke--from nothing, and feed it to the mysterious hunky guy!' or 'eeew, this food sucks, medieval style bread? Screw it, I'll magically fabricate all the fixings for French toast and syryp, and serve the family of my body a real American breakfast with no work involved.' or 'let me introduce you to underpants and bathing! Oh don't forget the luxury bath products and designer face creams, we may live in daub and wattle with a dirt floor, but by God we will have kardashian level skin care!'

Like seriously, what is the point? Sure the MC made a plan to save her family, and got the evil father of her body to give up a dowry and items/goods...? Why? She can literally make anything. So what's the point? Why not just abracadabra a pile of gold? Heck she did it for a carriage, and clothing, and food, and weapons, and and and. See where I'm going with this?

Loved the concept. Hated the execution. This book needs some struggle. Perhaps, yes she has the memory for cooking, or pharmaceuticals, medicine, whatever. BUT, it would be 100000000x better if she had to, I don't know, magically alchemize the ingredients? Forage for items, and figure out how to make them work for what she wants to do? Actually put work and effort into the creation of things, not just snap her fingers and have super vitamins, or modernized hybrid weaponry, or a portable McDonald's In her pocket. The magic can make things easier, but not do everything every step of the constuct. That's just a waste.

Sorry, end rant.

Usually, I do not write reviews; however, I had to write this one. I'm the kind of girl who reads translated Chinese novels and loves anime and manga, which is why I could see the concept that the author was on. I have to admit she did try to build a beautiful world; however, her characters fell short in terms of development and the amount of nonsense that a person can do as a reincarnated. You can give a level of lenience to a character who's being transmigrated or reincarnated into another world. They're usually going to have a shitton of magic or some unique ability that comes with that task; however, the female character seems to be on a whole other level of bullshit. Her powers come too easy with the minimum amount of practice and knowledge. In the beginning, I enjoyed it and realized I would need patience. There are parts in the story where patience is questioned, but the concept of the story idea there's something that I really couldn't get: the fact that the characters toddled off - grown women toddled off like children-- who does that?

Another thing that irked me was that she seemed utterly serious about wanting to keep her powers a secret and then blatantly putting them out there and using them however she wanted, yet still expecting them to remain a secret. It's asinine. The timeline is another thing. All this happens within two months. This could have been a great story, especially with the world-building she put into it. It needs work, a lot of it.

Okay. This book is a feel-good cozy type, maybe a tad bit too much.

Quinn our main character, is meant to be clever and wise, since she was transported at an older earth age (25) than a majority of protagonists in a similar story. HOWEVER she continues to make rash decisions without consequences or thinking of what long-term effects may occur. A majority of the time she truly has NO consequences. She's omnipotent, her arranged marriage husband just loves her from the get-go, Norsewood can grow RICE in the coldest mountain climate. A lot of the details on the surface seemed like well-thought out but as the story continues, its just revealed to be shallow research.

No shock from her conjuring all the needed materials by a medieval kingdom(There must be atleast SOME suspicion), our main Asian FL has lost her qualities and characteristics turning her into a Blonde-haired green-eyed protagonist.

I wanted to love this, I do, but this felt like a daydream written into paper without proofreading. There should be some overarching issue or conflict. The language used in the supposed medieval era involved modern vernacular(not only by the FL but by everyone else)

Devastation and hunger? Solve by a magic circle with no mana consequences. Also what? Telling the FL's abusive family to NOT tell anyone about her powers but haphazardly uses it to conjure everything for Norsewood at a moment's glance.

I really had a good time reading this Fantasy, Paranormal, young-adult, Sci-Fi book.
Once more I was delighted to see that the author is exploring new "worlds" and giving life to all the characters in it…
A girl died, stroked by a trucker and awaking in another body in a long, long, past era where mythical animals are alive and struggling to survive, like the human been...
She discovers her magic powers and start to training all by herself… meanwhile her father that doesn’t know her at all, his order by his King to give in marriage one of his daughters to a Lord that gives terror in the weak hearts (his two daughters refused the honour!!!), with the canning of his to sons he consider to give his “bastard boy” disguised has a woman, but of course, our Goddess, (Eh! Eh!), that her gender had been concealed to protect her from the machinations of a evil father will have the good fortune to get read of a “evil family” and be married with a man she falls hard...
As the story progresses, she starts using her powers to create useful things like good food, medicine, clothes… and a “Castle!!!” with all the amenities of her time (in the future)… well if we could see the faces of all of that people, from a past era, to start leaving and using all the conveniences/gadgets we use to, in our day life, it will be something!!!
Thank you Alexia Praks

Fun story. I did love the idea of this book and universe and I do love reborn plots. But it’s so badly written. I did love it somehow but is so bad. It’s like reading manhwa online were the lead gets everything instantly. There is no struggle in this. Everything is instantly fixed and the hero and heroine is so overpowered.

Everything is convenient and always has an easy solution. She always cook food and fixes everything with magic. She also told everyone not to tell anyone about her power but then she does the exact opposite. She shows hundred of people her power and does not hide it. She was also waaaaay to overpowered
She bought in moden amenities like an elevator, tv, heated floors, washing machines and so on😳😑 Not anything the villages could build on their own or adjust anything.
There is no stumbling and only once she got tired from using her overpowered powers.

There is also no development between Quinn and the ml. There is also no development and that with his children.
Yeah, there is so much missing with this and so much the authors should fix. It didn’t have a plot.
But it was entertaining🤣

And the side characters that was in the beginning, the mls friends AND her good family, just disappeared when she came to the castle. There was no development between them. The whole focus was only on the fml and her awesome powers AND fooood🫠🫠🫠

2.5 It’s not bad, it a easy read if you are not bothered by easy stories. It bothered me tho. Everything felt way too easy, and the heroine is way too overpowered, her mana is 999,999,999 and according to what it said if she defeats a bad guy that amount can go 4x up, like wth, that’s too much power to begin with, now if she had started with smaller quantity and throughout the books her power grew, then that would have been great, character development but girl was making a 5 floored modern apartment complex with 90 units and a playground and barely fainted for like a minute???? Wtf??? The magic system is so messed up.

Also it bothered me that sometimes characters would use words like mechanical or machinery, and is like weren’t they in a medieval magical world? How would they even know what is that. It was jarring honestly, however if you can go over all that, the world and some parts of the story are salvageable but also, I don’t fell like any tension nor romantic feelings between the characters, like they kiss often but like there’s not much feeling in, but maybe it’s just me who thinks that way. Anyways, I’m overthinker so small details that are not included tend to rack my brain but if you are an overlooker who can get past it then good luck.

Oh my.. Oh my... the blurb is so perfect! After nearly 2 years of almost no new books read, I was salivating to read this one just because it mentioned kingdom building and well, look at the synopses! What can I say.. except it sounded like a perfect mix of fantasy and romance, two of my favourite genres.

The beginning was fine but thereafter I got disappointed. Firstly I believe it could have been edited better. Phrases used and repetition got me cringing at times. Secondly I was so disappointed with the way the story went. It was too simple and too overpowered characters with absolutely no layers to them. It felt like a sentence was made into a chapter or an entire chapter was finished in one line. I had seen both happening in this book.

It was a fluffy quick roll-through-the-words read. I don't think I will continue the series. If there had been more intricacies in the plot and action, my reaction would have been the opposite especially since the author mentions LitRPG in the book!

My one line review : A fluffy quick roll with too simple plot and no action.

My rating : 2.5/5

My reread factor : 1/5

I.... went in with a lot of hope. I went in thinking that this book was going to be something I was going to love. The premise was interesting to me, and I was excited to read this isekai-novel.

I got through 20% of the book, and it was... very clunky and hard to read. I tried really hard to ignore the clunkiness, and I was doing really good about that.

Then I got to the part where the main character basically had a perfectly refrigerated magical bag of holding. And healing magic. And creation magic. And appraisal magic. Suddenly this cute novel of a present-day girl going back in time to a fantasy world where she marries a scary Earl turned into what honestly would have been better as an anime or comic, or a game.

I was looking to read about this current-age girl struggling and accepting her new life and finding love, but instead I found a main character who's more or less a Mary Sue with an easy pass through life.

This book was free so I thought, why the hell not. I've become partial to transmigration stories and perhaps that gave me expectations but as much as I like a sassy and smart mc I can't abide info dumping and magical system that can be picked up with no learning involved, especially since it is explained the original Quinn has only a little knowledge of magic in the world.

It may also be my personal taste but it feels wrong that Quinn can use her creation magic to pull soda out of her sack, or any food that is not in the world, and the castle she builds has tvs?? I don't mind the occasional anachronism but it feels really jarring for the obvious fantasy/medieval theme of the world and ruins the atmosphere. And lastly all the mention of food is methodical and tends to feel over-explained, but I want to see what happens when Juan arrives in Norsewood so screw it I'll read book two.

3.75 rounded up to 4. I bought this book free on Nook, and between the title and the AI generated anime-esc girl on the cover, my expectations were on the floor. The title reminded me of a reincarnation anime, and that's pretty much what this book was. Many complaints that I've read about this book is everything coming to easy for Quinn, but I feel like that it was purposefully done to sort of mirror some anime like "That Time I Got Rencarnated As A Slime". Overall, fun read. I enjoyed it. If you want something serious, this isn't for you, but if you're looking for a fun read, definitely check it out.

Like 2.5 if I’m being generous.

This book was very badly written. It was ridiculously corny and was written like a 12 year old writing fanfics but the bad yn ones.
Did I still read the whole thing? Yes. Did i enjoy it? Yes actually, because it had zero substance. Anything she wanted, she got. She has this completely overpowered magic that grants her every wish. The ml falls for her like immediately, no questions asked.
It was cliches upon cliches, it was almost funny.
This read like someone had read a historical reincarnation manwha and decided to write and fanfic about it.

Anyways I’ll probably read the next one because I’m bored so

Although I had high expectations for this one, I was disappointed.
There was no character development.
Everything was so easy for the protagonist being able to create anything and not even struggling to get a hold of the magic she suddenly had (for example creating a five star resort out of thin air and curing a deadly wound that was there for years in five minutes)
Half of the book was spend with the protagonist cooking or explaining what she wants to cook.
The relationship between the main couple did not evolve at all and seemed awkward at times.
There were a number of grammatical errors as well.

The main character's a little OP for my taste (she can use her magic to create a whole giant apartment complex and the only side effect is that she faints for three hours, for example) but I have to say the beginning of the book was quite fun with a touch of crossdressing and identity porn and there's a satisfying power fantasy element to it. If I have one critique it's that Quinn's modernizing efforts are so universally accepted--if nothing else, I'd expect the ppl to love their food even if it's bland, and be a little slower to accept Quinn's foreign, spicier taste.

Definitely worth my time

Pretty fantastic storyline. Given the basic premise of a contemporary woman being reincarnated in a medieval world and having magic to create anything she desires, the story is logical. But the extent to which she takes it really pushes my ability to believe.

Nonetheless I was caught and compelled to keep reading. I just HAD to know what she'd come up with next. If you don't mind your limits stretched to incredulity, read this tale. It was worth my time.

This story has entertained me, even with all it's flaws. The characters have no development at all, the gender roles are very stereotypical, Quinn has no flaws whatsoever and is the best in everything, there is a lot of repeating in the story, and you will get hungry because of all the food descriptions in this book. Everyone weeps when they are happy and amazed, and there is a lot of amazement in this book. It kind of is a bad story. In spite of it all, I still liked reading it. It is like fast food, I guess. You know it is bad, but sometimes it is just what you crave.

I’m a SUCKER for isekai animes and this read exactly like one. I absolutely loved it and it almost made me cry knowing what the main character could do in this story. Literally so amazing, I gobbled it up. Of course, it’s not meant to be taken as a SERIOUS kingdom builder with all the logistics in tact, but that’s what makes it so deliciously easy and fun to read.

Anyone who doesn’t enjoy those super easy, convenient, basically OP and over leveled MCs in isekai animes WILL NOT love this book, so please don’t review bomb it 😭 take it as it is!

A good read

I got this as a freebie, but it's really good. Some things didn't quite line up, like some of the characters getting certain meal items and recognizing them even though they weren't properly introduced to that item in its fully.prepared form, unless they knew what it was??? A few typos, but that didn't detract from the overall story flow. Kind of reads like an Anime Isekai story, which is nice.

Where is the struggle, the character building and the plot twist?
This was written without thinking about what a reader needs. The main character could do everything and it came to her at no cost and without having to learn anything. Then she is loved by all, perfect in looks as well as character... And it had me bored and rolling my eyes too many times. Making things for everyone and being able to just wish and everything is perfect, she should have just been the new queen of the entire country. The following book won't be worth reading as this world building is lacking and the plot is boring.

This starts as a litrpg-style story in the same vein as Holloway's "Reborn as the Villainess?!" but spins off into something resembling a mashup of Kitchens' Of Magic Made series, Dickens' "Oliver Twist" and Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper". While light and not for the literarily inclined, this is just the thing for a quick and satisfying romantic read on a quiet afternoon.

Ugh. I almost quit reading this in the 1st full chapter because of all the weird grammar and spelling issues. I kept going because the premise was interesting and, you know, curiosity. I am glad I stuck with it because it turns out that it was a fun read (freebie on Amazon), bit I will forewarn anyone who has issues with grammar errors, word choice errors, tense errors, and overuse of certain words (toddled and mighty are now eye rolling triggers for me) to just know there are plenty. As to the characters and world building, I had fun with the story but wondered (often) at how readily Quinn's powers were accepted, how easy her magic seemed to come to her, and how powerful she was--and then, for her to just take over at Norsewood seemed like something that should bother someone as powerful as her husband. That said, it was fun to see the solutions Quinn envisioned and the sheer enjoyment (and description) of all the foods she conjured.

Ultimately, I hope this series catches on and leads to a rewrite and some good editing. The 4 is for how much fun I had, but there are definitely some kinks to work out.
