better than i thought it’d be!! such a sweet book. great writing and the small town atmosphere was so nice. it was a lot shorter than i was expecting, but i actually liked the length. it felt like a short little movie. i loved that Abby was able to heal after her loss. Christmas is truly magical! the story about her adopting the child was heartwarming as well. i did think it would be more of a romance, it was more so about Abby and how she dealt with the loss of her husband. that story was still interesting. overall, while i will probably not think about this book again, i enjoyed it.
It’s Rachael Bloome and it’s a Christmas novel. What more could you ask for? A year after her husband’s death, Abby doesn’t want to celebrate Christmas. So she plans to escape by hiding out. Logan has turned himself into a bit of hermit after being released from the service. When Abby and Logan’s worlds collide, can they go back to their old lives and pretend they never met? Such a sweet story with many twists and turns. I loved it. Now if someone could turn it into a movie, that would be the icing on the cake!
A quick and cute read for the weekend to get you into the holiday spirit. While this book made me hungry, it also had many charming moments. I look forward to seeing what's next for Abby, Logan, and Max.

Blessings on State Street by: Rachael Bloome ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
📖Abby moves into the large Victorian mansion her husband bought before he was killed in action. Unbeknownst to her, the house comes with a handsome caretaker.
Rachael Bloome knows how to make you feel like you're in her novels. From the warm recipes, sweet smells and the beautiful location, Blessings Bay is a place I can't wait to revisit.
I loved Abby and her heart for foster care.
Logan's struggle with grief and PTSD was handled with a delicate touch.
Max and the townspeople rounded out a fantastic cast.
Several traditions, like craft and coffee, are ones I'd like to incorporate in my own family.
It all takes place on a beach, making this a perfect summer Christmas read.
Another heartwarming book from author Rachael Bloome! This is a beautiful, touching, emotional book about two people who have endured pain and heartache, and are unsure about opening up and risking their hearts again. I loved how Abby and Logan slowly and carefully let each other in, and how each of them were able to see them for who they are aside from their painful pasts. This is also a book about community and friendship and family, and I look forward to more books to come in this series!
This was a PLEASANT surprise!! I quite literally searched “free kindle books” last night, purchased this, and proceded to binge it today. It gave ALL of the Hallmark vibes and I was super invested. I had no idea it was set during Christmastime until after starting it. It gets a 10/10 for nostalgia points and now has me ready for the ‘ber months like no other!
Such a beautiful, sweet and tender story! Abby tried escaping Christmas by fleeing to Blessings Bay, only to find exactly what she needed. A good man, a sweet boy and most importantly realizing she was right where she needed to be. Of course, a certain “nosy neighbor” might have had a hand in it 🥰
Little Max’s story tugged at my heart, as I know of a young boy that endured similar circumstances. I just wanted to hug that little guy!
This one started off awry but got better! Foster kid, injured soldier, and a widow in a town that goes all out for Christmas. Clean romance, medical trauma mentioned as well as what amounts to child abuse. All works out, very Hallmark movie ish but a cute read.
Whenever I begin a Rachael Bloome book I know I'm in for a beautiful, fun, and emotional journey. I couldn't believe how much this story took me through emotion wise, and every single bit was wonderful. This story is so unique and inspiring, you just can't help but feel amazing throughout it and after.
One thing I absolutely loved about this book, is there didn't have to be some huge dramatic downturn in relationships like many books have. While yes, those can make great moments in books. This was so refreshing to see everything keep building up and up.
This book is so wholesome and uplifting, like a Hallmark story meets a beautiful Christmas miracle type event. The town is built up well and sounds so lovely. The characters are lovely and so real. Another thing I love is that the home is based on a real life home, it just makes it all seem more real but magical at the same time.
This book is a great start to a series and I can guarantee you I will be buying every single one that comes out because just like all of Bloomes other books, you will feel even better than before when escaping away through the pages.
It’s fine. I didn’t finish after page 36 (chapter 5). It’s what you’d expect out of a book like this. Instant attraction, dual pov so there’s no mystery or wondering. The story is straightforward. Not much thought was put into weaving a more intricate tale. The relationship will happen easily.
I was immediately sort of turned off by Abby though. She seemed kinda stupid. It felt like the author couldn’t think of any unique way to get Abby to go to this house her husband secretly owned because all of the sudden she just decides she can’t handle Christmas without her husband so with no planning she just drops everything to go there to get away from it all. But she knows almost nothing about the house or the situation with it. She says she has no clue if the home is occupied or what condition it’s in. She doesn’t even know if there is any power or water. There are so many bad scenarios that could happen with her just showing up to a random home so her insistence that she has to rush off to this place without a plan at all feels author contrived and makes her seem dumb. Since her husband kept it all a secret from her she should be extremely cautious about what she’d be finding there. But not only does she drop everything to go, with no knowledge of what she’s walking into, she shows up super late at night. Why? Just to add the drama? It’s unnatural and cliche and, again, feels author contrived. Oh and her phone is dead when she gets to the house too I guess to add another element of her being vulnerable? Or just to have a reason that she didn’t have a light so couldn’t see who was at the home. But it didn’t feel believable. She didn’t bring a car phone charger? I get that the author didn’t want her to have a light so she made her phone die but once again it’s just making her seem dumb. And not having a light just feels like another cliche in this situation. So then when Abby does get inside the home and hears that someone is in there, her first thought is to freaking taser them???!! Like what if that was a child? Or an old man or lady or something. Even if it is a healthy man she has zero idea if anyone is supposed to be there or not. Zero. She thought nobody was there but actually has no clue. She can’t just go around tasing people. My first thought if I was in her situation would be to think that it’s probably my husbands secret family or something. Or at the very least a tenant. But none of those things even cross her mind. Immediately she thinks it’s an intruder. Dumb. Later, Logan makes a comment that he’s glad that Abby can take care of herself because she tased him but like, her stupidity is the reason she tased him. Without her incompetency that wouldn’t have happened. I mean I get it, I shouldn’t be looking into everything so deep, but I just think the author could have dug just a little bit deeper and set up the story in a way that would make it more layered and realistic. I don’t know why it had to be so straight forward because straight forward stories rarely feel realistic and natural. But it’s probably a fine read if you want a sweet Christmas story.
Blessings on State Street is the first book in the Blessings Bay series by Rachael Bloome. Abigail Preston wants nothing to do with Christmas. Since her husband’s tragic death, she cannot face another holiday without him. When she discovers that her late husband owned a waterfront home in Blessings Bay, she realizes it’s the perfect hideout that she needs. Little does she know that her life is about to change. Former US Air Force pilot Logan Matthews has lived as a caretaker for his friend’s property after his medical discharge. Left brokenhearted after his fiancée broke off their engagement, he settles into a reclusive life. Abigail and Logan agree to be roommates for the duration of Abigail’s stay with two conditions: stay out of each other’s way and no celebrating Christmas. When a chance encounter with a little boy, Logan and Abigail find their agreement harder and harder to uphold. I thoroughly enjoyed Rachael Bloome’s Poppy Creek series and when I heard she had a new series, I jumped at the chance to read it. Blessings on State Street is so sweet with lots of smiles and fun encounters with the quirky residents of Blessings Bay. It also is filled with tears and emotional moments as Abigail and Logan open up about their painful pasts and current struggles. I also loved the residents who interact with Abigail and show her the true magic of a small town. It was a quick read as I was pulled into the story. I could not put it down! After I finished this book, I immediately added the next books in the series to my wish list and I can’t wait to read them. If you enjoy small towns, chance encounters, romance and the healing magic of Christmas, I highly, highly recommend Blessings on State Street.
Blessings on State Street is available in paperback and eBook
I had the opportunity to advance read and review Blessings on State Street as part of Rachael Bloome's ARC team, and as someone who usually love Christmas sweet romances, I couldn't wait to dive right into it.
Rachael is one of my all time favorite authors, and I always look forward to getting to read her new titles. This beautiful story focuses around grief and healing, and learning to come to terms with the fact that we can't change the past, but we can move forward into the future. I also loved the fact that she tackles tougher issues in this beautiful story including infertility, adoption and fostering, and that made a great story even better in my opinion. This was such a heartwarming holiday romance, and I loved the setting, the characters (especially the hilarious neighbor), and the slow burn romance.
Overall, this was everything I could have wanted in a cozy, Christmas romance, and it was exactly what I've come to expect from Rachael's wonderful stories. I love how she writes from the heart, and incorporates true meaning into each and every one of her stories. If you love heartwarming and clean holiday romances, then Blessings on State Street is definitely a title you're going to want to go ahead and pick up for yourself.
Final Rating: 5/5.
Thanks so much to Rachael Bloome for the opportunity to advance read and review this!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novella from the author (Rachael Bloome) as part of her street team. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.
Grieving widow Abby Preston wants nothing to do with Christmas this year. When she decides to hide out in her late husband’s waterfront home in a cozy community, she finds someone else living there…her husband’s Air Force buddy, Logan Matthews. Having never met Logan, Abby is unsure but figures they can share the huge house for the holidays as long as they stay out of each other’s way. When the magic of the season interferes with their plans, will their hearts melt or are some wounds too deep to heal?
This was such a sweet story! It sounds Hallmark-adjacent, and while that was definitely true, I found it mostly stayed just shy of going over the line of cheesiness. It was a quick read, and I read it in one day (it’s less than 200 pages). There are fun side characters, and of course a funny looking dog, to complete the checklist. But I really really liked it! The beautiful house on the cover is a real B&B that the author found in a magazine and inspired not only this book, but an entire series. I would be interested in continuing on with Logan, Abby, Max, Verna, and all the fun folks of Blessings Bay. The ocean heals everything, or so I’ve heard. It also had no language or spice at all (just a kiss at the end), this is one you can share with everyone. It’s full of heart and hope, which everyone needs. I recommend it!
A sweet Christmas read. Abby’s first Christmas after the lose of her husband. She goes to a house her husband had bought she knew nothing about. Finds Logan a friend of her husband living there. Logan was injured in the Air Force, He was good friends with Donnie fighter pilots together. When Abby gets to Blessings Bay she just wants to hide from Christmas. No decorations, no tree, no music. Logan agrees, but the town is everything Christmas, so when they go anywhere it’s all Christmas. Abby can over look it. She Mets a neighbor boy claiming there tree. She tells the boy the tree is old and dangerous. As Abby spends time there she starts to like the town, the neighbor lady and Logan. She didn’t think she could fell feeling again. They connect over Donnie, then it turns to more. One night they hear a load crack and scream. It was Max caught in the tree ready to fall. Abby goes up after him. They find out he is a foster child and the neighbors left him alone. They take him in and keep him he’s excited to stay with them, they treat him good make him and Christmas special for him. Abby decides not to go back to her life, she stays there with Logan and Max.
Abby escapes her home and flees to a house her deceased husband inherited. She can' t face Christmas without him and she thinks she can hide away from the holiday in the house.
She gets a big surprise when she finds her husband's friend Logan living there. They agree that they can coexist as long as Logan is okay with no Christmas. Logan agrees but sees other reasons that they will have troubles staying in the same house. First he feels a soft warmth growing between them, and he slowly sees Abby falling in love with the house.
When Abby meets foster kid Max, her rules about no Christmas begin to unravel.Never having the chance at a baby but always wanting a child, Abby becomes very attached to Max.
The beauty of a small coastal town, and the friends she makes help Abby heal. In that healing she is able to reach out and help Logan see that his infliction is not the grotesque turn off that he thinks it is.
When they decorating the tree, all of the pieces fall into place and Abby sees that this is where she belongs. That scene gave me goosebumps it was so full of emotion!
Blessings on State Street by Rachael Bloome Story follows Abby who's run away from celebrating the Christmas holidays. She ended up at her and her dead spouse house where he grew up. He had an air force friend living there, Logan. Story follows Logan also who will go along with not celebrating the holidays but they also run into a neighborhood boy Max who is being fostered but the family left him behind. The federal agency showed up to find the family and prosecute them. They had shared a nice night watching a holiday movie and having him spend the night at their house. She makes a move to keep him....Great story, lots of twists and turns. Love the craft schedule where they teach you how to do them while enjoying a nice beverage. Directions for the keep sake ornament are included at the end along with Q&A with bed and breakfast owner. Can't wait to read others in this series.
A favourite genre As Abby grieves the death of AirForce pilot husband, Donnie, she is determined to ‘skip’ his favourite season of Christmas. Discovering that he has an inherited house in Blessings Bay, she decides to hide out there but, on arrival, is horrified to discover it is occupied by Donnie’s anti-social buddy, Logan. Small town magic, in the form of welcoming, if rather nosy, residents, community holiday gatherings and the appearance of a needy little boy, soon changes both Abby and Logan’s negative Christmas outlook and results in them re-thinking their original decisions. This is an enjoyable and easy-to-read book with realistic and empathetic main characters. Secondary characters, Verne, Mr Bingley, and Max added a pleasing and ‘extra huggy’ feeling to the story. I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
Rachael Bloome is a new author for me. I love the word pictures she paints in this tale about Abby who wants to not only escape the Christmas Season, but to get away from a year of loneliness and tragedy. Coming to Blessings Bay on a whim to do just that. A short Get away and the discovery of a secrete her hubby had kept from her. I enjoyed the twists and turns as she muddles through a new Christmas that has unexpectedly made her so happy. Logan and Max add so much to this tale. Rachael has developed her characters, I can just close my eyes and picture Abby, Max and Logan. I look forward to book 2 in this series. I believe I have found my new favorite author. Thank you for a great read!
Enjoyed the first book in Rachel Hanna's series. Both Abby and Logan get so much more than they expected or think they deserve. Abby is disheartened to discover her deceased husband had inherited a house. As the 1 year anniversary of his death and her first Christmas without him approached, she needed to get away. To her surprise someone is living in i the house and it's Donnie's former bunkmate. He was medically released from the service and slowly recuperating. As they maneuver the quagmire of their changed lives a relationship ensues that neither expected but embraces. Throw in a precocious young neighbor, an inquisitive neighbor and her dog and you have a delightful story. I can't wait for book 2 in the series.
