Well presented collection of key life building skills targeted towards teen girls.

Beginning with Exercise and Sleep then moving on to: Health & Hygiene, Puberty, Reproductive Health, issues related to Friends, Stress, Social Media, Self Esteem, Finding a Job, College and beyond, author, Jenn Higgins, provides young women with a concise guide to these topics.

Her writing is friendly with some attempts at humor. The graphics that begin each chapter offer no diversity other than one blonde haired girl, one with glasses and one who is a few pounds heavier than the others; a missed opportunity for inclusion. To her credit, Higgins does include adults in her recommended resources for teens. Parents, extended family, teachers, clergy and other professionals are suggested as resources in addition to friends.

What’s not available as a resource is any bibliography, research information, suggested reading or resources the author may have used. If teens are interested in more information on any specific subject mentioned in the book, they will need to look elsewhere for assistance to research it.

All things considered, not an exhaustive volume by any stretch but a good place to start for motivation📚

Great illustrations in this self-published-esque guide, covering all the basics and important contemporary additions like healthy social media habits, and a focus on general mental health. The book opens with healthy activities like sport, and concludes with college prep. I wish there'd been more modern options for dealing with cramps than that tired old hot water bottle, and I would've liked to have seen a sustainability angle incorporated because that's something that my daughters and their friends are definitely motivated by (thrift shopping, avoiding fast fashion, etc) whereas this book is more consumerist and perhaps (like many other guides in this niche) could go further in espousing individuality, "Maybe you are glued to your phone like everyone else".

The Ultimate Compass for Navigating Teenage Years

The "Teen Girl's Survival Guide" by Jenn Higgins is an epitome of wisdom neatly packed into pages that resonate deeply with its intended readers. Reading through this guide, I found myself captivated by its authenticity and practicality – it seems Jenn Higgins has found the perfect recipe for speaking to teenage hearts and minds. The guide is structured in a way that feels like a conversation with a wise older sister – one who's been there, done that, and has come back to share the roadmap. Higgins addresses an impressive array of topics, from the inevitable social media labyrinth to handling peer pressure with the finesse of a diplomat. Her words are like a lighthouse beacon steering readers through the often-stormy seas of adolescence.

What sets this book apart is not just the relevancy of the content, but the tone in which it is delivered. Never preachy, always empathetic - it exudes a level of understanding that can only come from someone who truly remembers what it's like to be a teenager, and how to address one. It is this genuine voice that I believe will draw teens in, letting them know they are not alone on this turbulent journey. Each chapter provides not just insightful musings, but also actionable tips and thoughtful exercises that encourage self-reflection and personal growth. Readers are empowered to build their confidence, cultivate healthy relationships, and embrace their unique selves. The “Survival Guide” isn’t just about surviving; it's a beacon that guides young women towards thriving during their teen years. Furthermore, Higgins taps into the concerns of the modern teen with finesse, addressing current issues like online safety and mental health with sensitivity and depth. The guide doesn't shy away from tough subjects, treating its audience with the respect of acknowledging their maturity and intelligence.

"Teen Girl's Survival Guide" is a must-have for any young woman navigating the maze of adolescence. It's a book that readers may return to again and again for advice, comfort, and a reminder that their journey is shared by many. Jenn Higgins should be commended for crafting such a valuable resource that respects, educates, and uplifts its audience with every word. The guide is a heartfelt, well-crafted tool that belongs on every young girl's bookshelf. For parents, educators, and mentors seeking to support the teen girls in their lives, it is a resource that is sure to make a lasting impact. Highly recommended for its insight, compassion, and unwavering support in the form of a book.

In reviewing this book, I had to use a retrospective point of view to compare it to what I remember as a teenage girl as I journeyed to womanhood.

Moving from my childhood to my adolescence years had been fraught with challenges almost every day. Not only was I changing on the outside, with my body gaining bumps and curves when it used to be as flat as a boy, but I was also changing on the inside in ways I couldn't see but felt. I experienced a barrage of emotional feelings as I became more and more judgemental when I compared my body to that of other girls my age and wondered why they looked more developed than me; and why I looked more developed than other girls.

There was a slew of learning how to handle the issues facing me as a developing woman pretending to be entering puberty and menstruation and managing the periods. There was having to deal with friends in a new way and peer pressure, and managing the associated stress and coping issues of both.

I found this book to be a treasure storehouse of information regarding these things and more since it includes using social media, having a part-time job while going to school, and the all-important preparation for college.

For helping her young teenage girl readers navigate through their daunting teenage developmental years into their womanhood, I've given Ms. Higgins 5 STARS for her great educational endeavor here.

I read this book via an Amazon KU [KINDLE Unlimited] download.
