If you are a Fan of The Stand, this is a must read
Stephen King is my all time favorite writer and The Stand is my all time favorite book. Flint Maxwell is now a very close match. The whiteout series was everything I look for in a book and reminded me of the first time I read The Stand many many many moons ago. If you love The Stand, you have to give this series a try, you will not be disappointed!!!The visual descriptions are amazing and you will fall in love with the characters. Mr. Maxwell’s story telling had me right there with the characters. There were even days I was totally bundled up as I could feel the cold. I am an avid reader and again highly recommend this book.
2020 was a weird year but the whiteout series books takes it into a weirder year. Didn’t know what to expect but as I read all 5 books in a week, easy to say I really liked it. Good characters, action and suspense and hope.
It was a pretty good story. 4 stars. Not perfect. I read it to the end. There are so many ebook authors out there who have good stories about evil things that happen. Most just imagine it coming out of nowhere without explanation. Mankind monkeying with the machinery allows all he'll to break loose is the usual culprit. The fact that that world turned cold made this a good read for this time of year.
Captivating series, I enjoyed the character development as you got to know them as well as your friends. The unrelenting blizzards and cold were tangible, you felt it. My critique was, what was the cause of this phenomenon, it would have added to the story if theories were presented earlier. You know it's a good book when you keep thinking about it after you finished it some time ago.
It took me a while to get through this series. I had trouble remembering who some of the characters were and what happened to them. But I did really enjoy the story, watching the main group grow and become a family. I really like Grady, Ell and Stone. Chewy is my favorite.
This package is shown as five books. It's actually five novellas packaged together or maybe 5 long chapters divided into sub chapters. Whatever, it is one story and none of the "books" stands alone. That being cleared up, let's get to the story. Pretty good. It has elements of horror but it seemed more like horror/science fiction to me. The author did a good job of keeping the characters consistent in their reactions to situations to the point where I actually guessed how characters were about to react. The characters were all right but I don't think I would ever want any of them in my circle of friends due to off color jokes, innuendo and liberal use of the f bomb. On the other hand, they were pretty resourceful in tough situations. Some things were hard to accept, specifically moving through the snow. Also, the ending which I totally guessed wrong was pretty hard to believe. Then I told myself it's science fiction. The whole book is hard to believe. It's supposed to be hard to believe! That said, the ending kind of put a stop to my suspension of belief. The ending was one the sci-fi channel would be proud of. Anyway, my initial thought was 3 stars, but I decided no. It was interesting enough to keep me reading the entire story. There were some slow spots where characters are doing some soul searching and agonising over past events but it's a long story and it takes place over a period of months. I guess there has to be some pause in the action. Anyway, pretty good work from an author who has yet to disappoint.
I also am from Northeast Ohio. I couldn't be prouder to know that Flint Maxwell, is a Buckeye. This series is an amazing read. Relatable characters , continuous flow, exciting, and gripping. It was hard to put the book down and do what needed to be done. Hurting threw chores, so I could start reading again.
Thank you, Mr. Maxwell , for including the character of Stone, who had a disability. As a disabled person myself, it was very refreshing to see that a person with some limitations, not only survived, but was a hero as well. Definitely mark this series of The Whiteout as a must read.
This is so well written that I spent the weekend indoors reading it. The characters are extremely relatable and developed. Even though this is a genre that often does not keep my interest this one did through all 5 books. I seldom give a 5 star review, but this book earns that as an intense, imaginative, entertaining, well written read. The author makes Whiteout an easy place to get lost in.
Thoroughly enjoyed these 5 books. Not my usual genre, but the snow was the main attraction. Joining the battle of the group of dispatching people, all trying to survive, not only the relentless snow, but the main horrors of these stories, had me fighting along side them, willing them all to get through another day in hell.
I read all 5 books in about 2 days. Its a fast, good, gripping tale of survival, friendship, horror apocalypse, and people once again overcoming overwhelming odds. The characters are well drawn, and if the jokes are a bit lame, they are meant to be that way. well done, Flint Maxwell. Tip of the hat.
No summary from me. It's a fun, different take on the,or an, apocalypse. Great characters, fast and fun paced. If you got a suggestion to read his work, you will probably like it..it sure as heck ain't the mindless dreck SO MANY "independent authors" rewrite, rehash and are stale. I encourage any horo fan to read Flint Maxwell.
This was an excellent horror read. Interesting characters, usual monsters, and great dystopian survival skills. One of the most frightful book I have read in a long time; kept me on the edge of my seat. I would definitely recommend this book for horror buffs.....enjoy!!!
The Whiteout Series was gripping from beginning to end. It had some truly scary moments that were described in fine detail. I enjoyed the feeling of suspense that stemmed from the various obstacles that Grady and friends would face while marching through the treacherous snow. This was a fun and thrilling winter read. (And To quote G.O.T.) For the night is dark and full of terrors
These five books together are just awesome you will be at the edge of your seat as you go through the end of the world with snow no less and Brussels griffon. Enjoy!
If I could give this series a ten, I sure would. 2020 was a hard year, and with the snow storm in Texas and up north east and all around, a person can actually believe.
This book was an excellent read. Something new all the time. In spite of all the monsters there was always something to look through. Hard to lose some of the main characters but always action. Great read!
This is actually the second time I read this series, and I just don't do that! But the first time there wasn't a book 5. Now I have my ending and it was well worth the second read.
I saw this book and being from North East Ohio I had to read it. I was not disappointed. The storyline was well written, and different from most "monster books". I would definitely recommend this series to any avid reader
A little wordy at times. I soon warmed up to the characters. Fun read. Thanks! I have always enjoyed stories with an element of weather and water. Lots of snow in this one.
If Steven Kings IT and the classic horror movie The Thing had a child, this would be it. Enjoyed the book but it felt lacking of character depth and I felt the writer put more effort in to explaining past events of the main protagonist that what was needed for the story.
The story was well written and the characters fleshed out so little was left to the imagination. A few things were beyond belief if you've ever lived up North, you'll understand. Overall a good series.
One of the better apocalyptic books I have read in quite a.while. The author's characters are realistic and believable. The story was riveting and engaging.
