We've been let loose on a book... whose bright idea was that?
We haven't got anything to say!
Don't tell them that before they buy it...
They'll work it out eventually! Well, we've managed to put together some bits and pieces that might be interesting - or at least funny/weird/silly. Probably not.
No... probably not. Though if you like the vlogs, you might like it?
No one likes the vlogs.
True.
Anyway, enjoy!
At Home with The Buckleys is one couple's take on the wild ride that is modern marriage, parenting and adulting. Told from both sides, Clair and James share a collection of hilarious stories and comedy excursions from their early lives, years of cult TV fame, having children and setting up their YouTube channel.
Believe it or not I knew very little about this couple other than recognising James from ‘The Inbetweeners’…..I finished knowing a lot about them and their family and it was learnt in a really amusing, happy and very reader friendly way From how they met through to their Vlogs the book gives insight into their lives in a way that means you cant help but laugh out loud at their adventures and misadventures….. I guess the best compliment for the book is that I would buy this as a present for my non or not very often reading friends as it is a book written for everyone and literally every one who reads it will enjoy it,even the casual 10 mins here and there reader I think will be drawn back to the book There’s not much else to say other than it is hilarious and genuine, loveable and immensely readable, loved it
Listened to the audiobook version but there’s no option for that on here. I’m nosey and love their YouTube channel/podcast so this was fun to listen to but I don’t think the cutting was done very well on the audiobook as there were a few unnecessarily long pauses. Otherwise enjoyable enough - you get what you get with an autobiography so I don’t really like to give them a ⭐️ rating
I’ll admit, I read this book as I liked James in The Inbetweeners (cringing/laughing at how much bravado Jay had) and I follow Clair on Insta. That said, it’s not a choice I regret.
The Buckleys chart their upbringings, James’ rise to fame, how they met and then anecdotes from their time together. Yes there is name dropping but this pair do appear to be so down to earth, they’re as star struck as I’d be!
There are greyed sections throughout the book where the narrative is interrupted and one or other goes totally off topic. But they both do a Desert Island Discs. Having listened to their choices, I’ve heard songs I haven’t heard before and there’s been some lost loves too! Love a book that gives me a playlist.
OMG the fart section?!?!! I think over the years with two brothers, a dad, husband, two sons and numerous male work colleagues, housemates and friends I’ve experienced every single one!!! Some I can even allocate to (a) specific individual(s). Just hilarious 😂
I really enjoyed reading At Home With The Buckleys. It’s a fun, lighthearted, easy to read, honest take on life and parenthood. The Buckleys, despite being in the entertainment industry, come across very down to earth and dare I say it, normal. Yes they have the slight spats that all couples do about silly things, farts and Halloween decorations to mention two. I came out of this highly entertaining read with a smile on my face! I really must check out their vlog and podcast now!
I was so excited to read At Home with The Buckleys and it did not disappoint.
Having watched James in The Inbetweeners and also watching their Youtube channel I think I knew what to expect.
It was such a fun and fabulous book to read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love them as a couple and think that they are proper sole mates who obviously bounce off each other.
They both come across very relatable and no airs and graces and so refreshing to read in today's society. I would love to purchase the actual novel.
The content of the book is great, gives you an insight of their past lives and also their present lives. Definitely worth a read if you enjoy these people
Thanks to Netgalley, the authors and the publishers for allowing me this copy so I can leave my honest opinion..
Admittedly, I haven't watched any of James and Clair's vlogs, but I did like him in the Inbetweener's so expected this to be funnier than it was.
It was an OK read, most of it was written by Clair though, I felt like she dominated the book, not so much in a bad way but him having the most fame I had presumed that most of it would be him rather than her, perhaps that's wrong to think but anyway!
It was just little snippets of their lives, how they met, their children, then the stories of how he came to be in The Inbetweener's and what he's done for work since. It was quite a short read and one I wouldn't go for again but if you watch their vlogs I am sure this would appeal more to you. I would imagine as a vlog they are probably a lot funnier together but I didn't get humour much from the book.
Absolutely loved this book! Knew about James from Inbetweeners and his Completed it Mate twitch stream but knew nothing of Clair. This book is a fun insight into their lives and I flew through it!
Reading about music, games, crisps and a chapter on farts! Full of anything and everything, I will have to watch the youtube vids now and see what else is going on!
I liked reading about their early lives, meeting each other, early job roles for James and growing up with Clair.
Very enjoyable read, would recommend and loved reading about James and his gaming, love Toejam and Earl and it's made me want to play it again!
This was a really quick and easy read, it was funny and lighthearted and I liked seeing the relationship between James and Clair and they made feel like they would definitely be people I would want to be friends with. I’ve not seen their YouTube channel before reading this but I’ll definitely be watching on the future.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the chance to read this arc.
"‘At Home with the Buckley's’ is an absolute delight! As a fan of their vlog channel, diving into this book felt like catching up with old friends. The fun and warmth that characterize their videos extend seamlessly onto the pages, making it a truly enjoyable read. It's a perfect blend of entertainment and insight into their lives, earning it a solid four stars from me!"
For anyone who has been living under a rock - James Buckley shot to fame in the Inbetweeners. Apart from the many things this couple have achieved since - during lockdown, they started a YouTube channel and invited people into their home and private lives.
I've always loved the Inbetweeners - totally my humour to a tee! I could watch the re-runs and films and never get bored! So when I spotted that there was a new YouTube channel I couldn't resist taking a peek at the at who the real 'Jay' was.
The vlogs were brilliant and this book is a continuation of those. Proving to be an interesting, easy and often hilarious read.
I love that there are sections written from both James and Clair's pov - which gives us an insight into both their personalities and really shows off the dynamic in their relationship.
It was great to take a look at their earlier lives - how things developed both professionally and personally for both and how they met etc.
Having watched the vlogs, I totally read this book with their voices ringing in my head throughout.
A great read and a great couple - so laid back and chilled but also so hard-working! Loved this!
I loved The Inbetweeners and I follow them on Instagram so I was aware what the book was going to be about. I haven’t listened to their podcasts. It was a quick funny easy read which I really enjoyed.
I've loved James since The Inbetweeners, he was one of those characters that everyone loved to hate, yet could relate to at some point.
Their podcast and vlogs are regulars for me too, they're so funny together, what you see is what you get. The book was exactly that, written in their inimitable style.
Hilarious, witty and a brilliant insight to being at home with the Buckleys, their kids, and their farts!
My book was a nightmare to read though as literally everything inside the book was a printing error, so I had to read from back to front.
Entertaining, enjoyable and my favourite celebrity couple.
