Author Randall Morgan is on his way home after spending fourteen days in the secluded cabin where he always goes to write the endings of his books. However, when he arrives in his hometown, East Alin, he is greeted by a disturbing sight.
At a traffic light near the city limits, someone has turned a lamppost into a makeshift gallows, and in it a man–dead and decomposing–hangs.
The sight of the hanged man is terrifying in itself, but it soon dawns on Randall that there are other–and far greater–problems in the small town. Because while he is waiting in his car for the police to show up, several people pass by the crime scene - and not a single one of them reacts to the fact that a dead man is hanging in the middle of the street.
Something has gone completely wrong in East Alin while Randall has been away.

Per Jacobsen is a Danish author best known for writing thrillers with supernatural elements. He got his literary debut in 2018 when he won a writing competition issued by Byens publishing house in Denmark. Shortly afterwards, he signed a contract with the publishing house Valeta, also in Denmark, who published his debut novel, The mirror cabinet. Per Jacobsen's next three books (books 1-3 in the Strung trilogy) were translated and gave him his international breakthrough as they quickly went to the top of the bestseller list in several countries, including the US and England. Today, Per Jacobsen is a full-time writer and lives permanently in southern Spain with his wife and two children.
Well, I finally finished this trilogy after three months of reading a chapter per day as we are doing in the Facebook group for this author like we did for 25 Days. It starts out with an interesting premise: Author Randall Morgan has just finished his latest novel and was away for a couple of weeks. When he returns, he finds that society has collapsed. Police are hanging innocent people from lampposts. Randall's goal is to get to his son and keep him safe.
The characters were well written but some chapters just seemed to drag with nothing interesting happening in them. I did like the way this post-apocalyptic story ended though. I will be reading the prequel, Rose's Story to see how this all began.
This was a solid horror trilogy about an alien invasion that is terrifying because it turns humans against other humans.
Even though Randall, our main protagonist, came across as immature and rather annoying at times, he definitely matured as the series progressed. Though I'm still not happy with how the author treated his and Tommy's relationship in book 2. I still think that brothers who went through the horrors of book 1 would have behaved differently, even if they had a sleeper agent in their midst trying to sow discord.
The last book answered a lot of questions and brought the series to a satisfying conclusion. All in all, this is a quick spooky read perfect for the spooky season.
I found this book after reading the 25 Days book, by the same author, as an “advent” (horror) read. This book and the writing style, as well as the story and subject felt similar to a Stephen King novel, and I really enjoyed it! I liked seeing the world through one character’s perspective and understanding his view was limited, even though I did want to know more! I’m looking forward to reading the prequel!!
I had never heard of this author until I picked up 25 Days which counts down until Christmas Day. It’s a really good part psychological, part horror story. So I picked up the Strung series all in one go! His writing keeps the flow at a steady pace. And while I don’t usually read “horror “ themes, this series was fascinating. It starts with dead people hung from street posts by cops! The characters are nicely developed and all emotions from horror to sadness to love are felt.
What can I say about the Strung Trilogy? The first word that comes to mind is “wow”. Just wow.
Once I began to read book 1, I found that I was literally sucked into the story. Per Jacobsen wasted no time bringing the action. There was no soft opening. You dive right in.
I appreciated the way the trilogy handled the mystery surrounding the ending of the world as we know it. It was believable and when I wasn’t in a position to read, I had the characters and their situation on the edge of my mind. The character development was spot on. Per breathed life into them and then shared them with the world.
Wonderfully written by a most talented author. I literally just happened upon Per Jacobsen very recently and have very quickly become a fan!
Do yourself a favor and grab this trilogy. I’m off to find my next Jacobsen read. It’s something special when you find a writer whose writing resonates so deeply that you must read all the books!
Short and sweet cliffhanging chapters... Per's writing is brilliant! I love how he captures the moments and then suddenly ends nearly every chapter on a cliffhanger... I have enjoyed reading this series so much - I read it as part of a 'chapter a day' reading group, so enjoyed being able to discuss each chapter along the way with others. The fact that towards the end I had so many mixed emotions regarding certain characters when at the beginning it was one set emotion of sadness, is a credit to Per's unique writing style. I would highly recommend this book to everyone - trust me it is very very addictive reading!!! I can't wait to read more of Per's books now.
I have loved this series from page one till the end I was hooked!! Action packed. interesting storyline and characters. Per took the reader on a thrilling but emotional journey! I'm not gonna give any details about the plot as readers need to experience it at first hand. All I will say is the story is unpredictable and Per's writing is excellent at moving the narrative forward without adding anything unnecessary in!
I started reading group Per at christmas with his 25 days book. It was a fb group and every day we read 1 chapter. After that, I was hooked on this author. The group decided to stay together and the next ones to read was the strung series. Wow! What a ride. Per is an excellent author who knows how to hook the reader. Great with suspense in almost every chapter. Loved all the characters! Now on to roses story :)
This series takes us to a town where everyone has literally lost their minds! What would you do if you drove through your hometown and saw people hanging from lampposts? The shock element is alive and well in this series. This is a rollercoaster, for sure. I enjoyed this series from beginning to end. It was emotional, at times. The characters were very relatable and well written.
I really enjoyed this trilogy! It was a different read from the usual thrillers. The story was good, it definitely kept my interest and i could have set and finished all three in one setting if life didn't interfere. LOL
I really enjoyed this series, because u never knew what was going to happen next. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys suspense.
This was suggested read from a Facebook ad and I highly recommend it. The book grabs you from the first paragraph and doesn’t let you go until the end of the series. Twist and turns. Love, love, love it.
