Thirty-six demons slain. And still, one eludes him…
Four years ago, Gensou Masanori accidentally released dozens of demons from the spirit realm into the real world. He’s spent as much time as possible hunting the demons and doing whatever necessary to set things right.
He cleanses their darkness if they let him.
If they refuse, he kills them.
Sending them back to the spirit realm where they belong.
But there’s one demon he’s spent the last four years chasing. The creature never fights back, but neither will he let Masanori purify his spirit.
So what does the demon want?
The Spirit Sorcerer is a Japanese-inspired fantasy tale filled with magic, monsters, and found family. This novella is a supplementary story in the Yumihari World and can be enjoyed after reading the Yokai Calling series or on its own.
Erynn is amassing an army of fluffy minions to take over the world. She's currently at 42 and counting, but progress stalled because she hasn't figured out soul transmutation. In the meantime, she entertains a "mild" tea obsession, studies Japanese history and mythology, and writes epic fantasy. It's her goal to introduce readers to the complexities of mental illness through the perspectives of lifelike characters in fantasy worlds.
Masanori is back in the nightmare realm and the day of Ichika's choosing of her life path is approaching, yet she was still undecided. Kira wanted her to follow in her footsteps and become a dragon rider, after all a baby dragon had already chosen her, yet Ichika wanted to become a Ki-engineer like Masa. Masa was on his own quest to kill demon spirits to return them to their own realm from where he had once unwittingly released them. However though he had done this to many spirits one spirit that of Sagishi eluded him, he was the only one taunting him and keeping him from finishing his quest and being accepted as the next shaman. Why is Sagishi calling out to Masa? What did he want from him? Masa was bonded to the Baku known as Gensou and to Tama who had previously been the tree known as Tamashii, but the spirit wanted him to bond with him too and Masa refused. Masa had tried to give advice to Ichika regarding her choosing however when Ichika's day was upon them she challenged the four spirits to choose for her, saying she wanted to see who of them was worthy of her, to the disbelief of all those present. Ichika would not give up on her life dreams and courageously threw out her challenge. This book is so powerful, both Ichika and Masanori are amazing as they face the challenges the nightmare realm throws at them and they do so together. Masanori never wavers in his love and faith in Ichika and he is proven to be right, she is an amazing character who I hope we will read further about!
Received as an ARC, I am leaving my honest review. The spiritual battle of the entities within Masa are brought to life in this action packed, gripping tale of further insight into the nightmare realm. There are breath holding scenarios and heart pounding moments as Masa searches for the quests given to becoming a shamen. His daughter a kitsune he rescued after the sacred shrine was destroyed is coming into her own spiritual awakening and the journey is filled with danger. Can Masa protect her while searching for his own answers? Good thing he has his two spirits melded within his own, to help. Or, will they just get him in trouble. You will be gripped from the first page til the end as you read the beautifully descriptive journey within the different realms and the ending will have you wanting more!

This was a strong sequel in the Wyvern Wars series, it did what I was hoping for from the first book. The characters worked so well and I really enjoyed getting back to them. I hope there is more in this series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is book 2 and I definitely enjoyed reading and recommend. The characters were very well written and there was the right amount of action and suspense.
