The games are FINALLY over. I didn't like this book much more than the other two but they were at least good enough to make me want to find out what happens. I don't like to trash books, but I found this one to be predictable and kind of disgusting. Here is a rundown on why:
•This is so much like Hunger Games that when you find out they are soulmates you know exactly what is going to happen. I was hoping maybe she would deviate from that storyline and do something different, but alas, no.
•I was disgusted by the torture and could barely get through that scene (I will say I am kind of a wuss and DO NOT like reading/ watching that kind of thing AT ALL, so comparatively it may not be that bad for many other people).
•I was completely disappointed in how anticlimactic it was when Selena finally defeated her biggest nemesis.
•I got the feeling the author was just as uncomfortable writing the sex scenes as I was reading them (and I do read romance novels, so different scenario than the torture thing). If she really felt the need to include it, for the age of the characters I felt it should have been done much more tactfully. Plus, she's a (virgin) teenage girl and she doesn't care if the entire Otherworld can see exactly what she's doing? Yeah right.
•I was a bit bored by the side story, maybe because it felt too much like a Percy Jackson quest. Plus the whole thing with the sexist vampires was sooooo irritating. I wondered to myself "what's the point of this, just to piss women off?"
•We never do find out the truth about Felix, which annoyed me too. However, that fact is consistent with his character so I understand why that was done.
I don't like leaving completely negative reviews, but I'm sitting here trying to think of something I liked about this book and can only come up with two things, and they both have a 'however.'
1. Selena is finally done being so dumb about Julian and they are finally together. However, Torrence takes her place in the stupidity department.
2. The games are FINALLY over. However, from early on in this book it was predictable, and for me, anticlimactic.
Debating whether I will continue with this series. I kept reading because I wanted to find out what happens with the games and between Selena and Julian. Now that the games are over maybe there will be an original storyline?
