I made it slightly more than halfway through this book before giving up. The characters' actions made no sense to me, and I kept waiting for something to shift or change, but I lost patience. Despite multiple attempts on her life, our heroine continues to insist on going out on her own, avoiding police protection, and rejecting all offers of help or comfort. In the face of this continued rejection, our hero considers himself in love with her after knowing her for about two days. Unbearably dumb.

DNF...

I really tried to keep reading the book but either I'll end up another too soon reading slump or it will take forever to finish the book.

I didn't like at all hero's insta-lust and almost obsessive attitude toward heroine. He didn't know her, even she might have been one of suspect about his brother's escape, but no, he was so sure of himself and immediately he felt to protect her and ignored his job's ethics. He went so far in his possessiveness that he behaved like a junior, not a professional police officer. I think, mostly because of his meaningless and implausible behaviour, I lost all my appetite, despite of I was interested in suspense part of the story.

I can't say that I liked heroine more than hero. She showed all the signs that in the next chapters, she would be another issue in the story. Although her life was in stake, she was determined to ignore all protection requests and helped to create more tasks to policemen. I guess that she will have some trouble because of her actions but I didn't find in me to keep reading and see what happens next.

Overall, imo author created far-fetched, frivolous protagonists while she was trying to make them (hero) romantic or appealing for a romantic story (heroine).

I got this as a freebie. I can't always be lucky as with Penelope. I wonder if I should rate a book two stars only because I read it in one sitting and it wasn't boring while at the same time it had some serious issues. It really needs better editing: "... she didn't have a clue how to dead with him", "Macy two-stepped it hack into her living room", "His next breath came flavored with the baby power that his mom used after showering."

I didn't make any typos there. Some are silly even without mistakes: "Her breasts were Playboy beautiful" or "She missed him so bad her toenails ached". If the last one is possible, I apologize.

Macy is another reason which might prevent people to enjoy this. She does exactly the thing she isn't supposed to at the most dangerous time. Oh, and she calls menstruation Aunt Flo.

But despite all that I actually had fun reading this because Macy's family is weird and there is a lot of humour. Even though her grandmother is a caricature, she is the one that makes this book funny. I have to justify two stars somehow.

Nan stared at Baldwin. “What did my granddaughter do?” Her mom spoke up. “You said she hit him in the balls.” “She did.” Nan looked at Baldwin. “Did she hit you in the balls again?”

...

Suddenly, bolting through the open door came the FBI man himself. He glared at Macy. “I want to talk to you,” he growled. “Did she hit everyone in the balls?” her mom asked. “Maybe,” Nan said. “It does give a woman a rush.”

I liked this book. The writing was tight and there was much more showing than telling. There were several very amusing parts and the tone of the book stayed consistant throughout without being in any way farcical. The characters were well drawn and believable as were the interesting minor characters.

The plot made sense and I liked that the story resolved around a smaller crime than terrorists or serial killers. The plot was also one where I didn't guess all of the answers from the beginning. The author was able to keep several questions unanswered until the end.

I loved how the hero, Jake, would do something and then tell himself that the sons of Baptist preachers do those sorts of things. He made some mistakes and he did some very nice grovelling at the end to get the heroine back.

I will definitely be reading more of this author.

This book was quite entertaining. I probably would have given this book more stars if I could stand Macy even a little bit. She was such an idiot who was always running off on her own when she knew someone was trying to kill her. Jake was wonderful!! The family interactions were really funny. Macy's mom and grandma made the book for me.

The editing needs some work. One of my biggest issues was the lack of quotation marks at the start of a sentence. It messed with the flow of my reading and made me backtrack to make sure I was actually reading a quote.

Overall a good book that was worth my time.

I stuck with this author because I did enjoy her previous book. I like this book as well but it was just missing things. I just didn't have closure to a lot of threads that were included with story. The ending wasn't really an ending for me. I needed to see them as a couple in future things.

I love reading Christie Craig. This is her fourth book and she’s not once let me down when it comes to plot, characters, and especially humor. She’s a terrific new author and Love Spell/Dorchester is lucky to have her.

The main draw for me to Christie’s books is her humor. I find myself laughing out loud throughout the entire book. An example in Gotcha! is when the hero, Jake, a police detective, gets a lesson in not pushing a woman too far when she’s trying to save embarrassment on both sides when it comes to feminine hygiene products. May seem cliche, it’s been done before, but not by Christie Craig. The heroine, Macy, does her best to get Jake to back off making a run to the store for her, though he’s trying to be a gentleman. But when he persists, Macy lets loose and stops speaking female code for tampons, periods and the whole works, lets Jake have it full force, which leaves him floundering and blushing. One of the best scenes in the book, and there are so many more.

Another plus to Christie’s books is her characters. There hasn’t been a character in four books that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed. Macy’s brother is currently incarcerated because he was duped by a couple of brothers who robbed a store and Billy was their getaway driver, unbeknownst to him until it was too late. Macy decides to do a little investigation on her own when she receives a message from Billy’s girlfriend, who is the ex-girlfriend of an uber bad guy who is in prison with Billy and won’t let anyone get one up on him. During her investigation is when Jake tackles Macy, literally, as she snoops — in the guise of delivering pizza, her day job — around said girlfriend’s house and the police just happen to be there too.

After deciding that Macy really isn’t part of the whole upcoming fiasco of a prison break, in which her brother participates, Jake tries to shake her from his mind, but finds it impossible to do. He ends up protecting her when the bad guy begins to stalk Macy. Jake wants more from her, but Macy holds back because the men in her life always leave. Doesn’t matter if it’s dying, walking away, or cheating, males in her family, including her ex-husband, have hurt her over and over again. But spending so much time with Jake, learning he has his secrets too, is beginning to wear her down.

I so enjoyed Jake and Macy. They’re fun, independent, strong, witty and they look darned good together. Christie’s secondary characters are also well written, including the villains, and I like all of them just as much. Macy’s family, her mom and grandmother especially, are a riot. We even get two secondary love stories with Macy’s mom and brother, each finding love in the danger and investigation that consumes their lives. Ms. Craig just has a knack of making the reader care about what happens to her characters.

Christie Craig is a master at incorporating fun and laughter in her books. She blends those seamlessly with the romance and suspense that she’s also brilliant at. If you’re a reader who likes humor when you read, then you have to, absolutely, read Christie Craig. She’s one of the few authors in any genre who writes humor like this. This is nearly as good as it gets.

Ok, I admit it. I enjoyed this contemporary romance. Some might consider the humor as stupid-funny. It begins with Ellie Chandler, a somewhat chubby, gorgeous, and 'stacked' lady who wants to report a possible murder. She has just met Sgt. Jake Baldwin of the local police department. Unfortunately when she opens her mouth her voice comes "out two octaves above chalk screeching across a blackboard". And she is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Jake is the son of a preacher so he couldn't act rude, could he? So he listened to her tale. If only he knew this was just the tip of the iceberg. But GOTCHA is about Jake and Macy Tucker. Macy is Ellie Chandler's boyfriend Billy's sister. Be patient. Stick with me.

Macy was married before and was burned. She has trust issues. So when Jake and Macy meet for the first time the fire crackles. To put it mildly, the two butt heads. Macy's way of defending herself exasperates any man who tries to get close to her. And what does Jake do? He never lets up and goes for the jugular.

He crossed his arms over his chest. "Are you purposely trying to be difficult?"
She didn't deny it. She didn't say anything.
"Just tell me what you need," he pressed.
"You can't hold me here against my will," she snipped.
He shook his head. "I'm not-Don't be stubborn. Tell me what you need and I'll get it."
She tilted her head back, and along with what he'd swear was a flash of defiance in her eyes, she smiled. "Fine."
Relief swept him. "Now, was that so hard?"
"Not at all."
Something in her tone warned him, much too late.
"I need tampons," she stated-loud enough for anyone passing by to hear. "The kind with the plastic applicator. They come in a pink box. You'll find them in the aisle of the grocery store that men avoid, beside the yeast-infection medications and feminine deodorant products. Oh, and don't get the cardboard-applicator kind. Women already feel bloated this time of the month. We don't like to feel uncomfortable, too."
He opened to speak, but freaking hell, what could he say?.......
Macy wished she had a camera. The look on Sergeant Baldwin's face was priceless. But she wasn't finished......"I have a coupon."....
"I'll wait right here." She pretended to be surprised when he caught her by the elbow and practically dragged her out of the chair. As they passed the front desk, he spoke to the female attendant. "If Agent James asks, tell him we'll be right back."

Not quite five stars this book is still a keeper for me. It contains snarky humor, great tension and sizzling chemistry. It is also a mild adventure with some suspense. Follow the shenanigans of two people who irritate each other and then some. You will be glad you did.

Was a decent 3 star read.

Ended at 77% on the kindle, which for a freebie is ok, if I had paid for it, I would have been annoyed however.

Macy Tucker does not trust men, but Jake Baldwin is determined to protect her and get her into bed.

Macy's younger brother has escaped from prison, as a fellow convict has also escaped and threatened Macy.

Enter Jake Baldwin into the life of Macy. But things do not get off to the best start.

Damn, but he liked her. He didn't have a clue why. In less than twenty-four hours, she'd committed two of the greatest sins a woman could against a man: interfering with his job and messing with his family jewels. Well, a man's jewels could and should be messed with, but gently.

But Macy is determined to not get involved. Men cannot be trusted.

Staring at her image in the mirror, Macy made one of those face-your-fears kind of confessions that are supposed to help your mood. "Hi, I'm Macy Tucker, and Jake Baldwin scares me. He tempts me. Being with him is like driving a bike too close to the edge of a cliff" A cliff with great scenery, of course. But Gawd have mercy, she hadn't thought there was a man alive who could make her want to risk falling off that cliff again. Hadn't she fallen too many times, only to find herself bruised, battered and broken?
She blinked at her image and waited for the confession to offer her some relief. None came.
She gave her reflection another once-over. "You look like hammered poo on a bad hair day"

It got a bit silly in the middle with what must be the most inept FBI agents ever and a couple TSTL moments, but overall it was a solid humorous read with an engaging and funny cast of characters.

I must confess I wouldn't have tried this book if it wasn't for a friend's review and that would have been my bad because the book was totally wacky fun especially Macy who could be as stubborn as a mule and Jake one of the most delicious and loving heroes.

Macy is putting herself through law school, works at a pizza joint and always does the right thing, so her totally cool granny and constantly crying mother tell her to go visit her baby brother in prison. She doesn't wanna go because it hurts her seeing him there but she does, where Billy tells her about how he stole a prisoner's girlfriend and now she may be now in danger.

Men!They have never been reliable. Her grandpa died, her father left(he was mean drunk too) and then her ex-husband cheated on her and her baby brother let her down so Macy is not looking for a man especially not after the example she had with her mother. She runs into Detective Jake when she knees him in the groin.

The whole book was light-hearted fun, we see Billy who has escaped to protect Macy and Ellie(his gf) and we see Jake try really hard to catch Macy.
Jake is a little messed up as well, he lost his preacher father to cancer and his ex-fiancee to his brother and he doesn't like talking about himself but what I liked was that when he got a little heavy-handed protecting Macy, she didn't take it, instead she kept him on his toes even when I wanted to tell her to grab him.

She made him work with her delivering pizzas, embarrassed him by talks of tampons. Hell he even ate vegetarian for her, totally yummy and when he messed up, he grovels like a dream. I also loved Macy's family as well.

A very nice read.

Macy Tucker (aka Pizza Girl) was a struggling law student delivering pizzas to pay her bills. She had several problems: her brother Billy had screwed up again. This time landing his butt in prison for something he swears he didn't know about. He has also escaped said prison again, doing something that wasn't his fault. What to do? Her history with men, relatives or ex-husbands, wasn't stellar: Grandpa promised to take her to the circus and "dropped dead in his spaghetti. at twelve, he father left his family in the dust. At twenty-five, her husband gave his secretary a pre-Christmas bonus in HER bed. Macy gave him the boot." Understandably, she is leary of the opposite sex.

Then she runs into (literally) Jake Baldwin. Cop, hunk, son of a preacher and full of his own issues. Not the least of which is to find Macy's brother and take him in. Macy nd her yoga-teaching grandma, her sobbing mother and Billy's sort-of girlfriend cry, laugh and make this story well worth reading. Gotcha! gets you and doesn't let go until the finale with several side stories that keep all the characters involved.

That said...for the life of me I cannot figure out why Ms. Craig kept mentioning that Macy was having her period. Who cares? I know we all do that but don't need it thrown in my face, even as an excuse for ot having sex. Where it not for that fact, this book would have recieved a higher mark from me. Still a good book but come on!

I really wanted to like this book more but I found myself getting a bit bored with the story. In the beginning I noticed right away the quotation marks ( " ) where they didn't belong and I thought, well, maybe this is a simple error that will get fixed more into the story. To my dismay, it was all throughout the story. Everywhere you can see the ( " ) where they don't belong. I wish that was just the only thing that bothered me... The story was OK, just didn't quite hold my attention. It took me three days to finish this book and I normally finish any good book in less than a day. This story had some quite funny parts and that is why I am giving it a 3 star review.

Macy Tucker has never had the best luck with men. First her grandfather drops dead in his spaghetti, then her father abandons their family, and then Macy catches her husband cheating on her. To top it all off, her well meaning but not always thinking brother, Billy, winds up in prison and steals a violent inmate’s girlfriend. When said inmate breaks out of prison, Billy follows in order to protect his girlfriend and Macy, bringing the most frustrating man to date right to Macy’s door. Sergeant Jake Baldwin may be sexy-as-sin, but he’s also bent on interfering with every aspect of Macy’s life until Billy is found. When it becomes clear Macy’s life is in danger, Jake’s protective instincts are roused, drawing him and Macy closer together. But will Jake’s desire for her be enough to make Macy risk her heart for a chance to break her bad luck streak with men?

Sparks fly in Christie Craig’s delightful new caper. Gotcha! is a thrilling read, packed with action, danger, and romance. Ms. Craig has created a unique cast of lively characters who both charm and entertain. Macy is a heroine I like and respect. She’s smart, hard working, and loving, in spite of having been hurt time and time again. Jake too has a past that has left its mark on him, making him wary of love and me all the more eager to see him find it with Macy. Though he presents a hardened façade, Jake truly does possess a caring soul, which shines through the walls he tends to put up. Macy’s family rounds out the story and Ms. Craig makes them every bit as memorable as Macy and Jake. I should mention that Jake and Macy aren’t the only ones who find love in Gotcha!, but I’ll leave it to readers to discover who else finds happiness along the way, for that’s half the fun of the story.

From beginning to end, Gotcha! had my undivided attention. It’s fast-paced, fun, and filled with endearing characters who are sure to capture your heart. Ms. Craig never fails to pen a fabulous tale, and Gotcha! is no exception. Engaging and romantic, Gotcha! is not to be missed.

Macy has never been able to rely on the men in her life! So she has been extra careful in helping her mom raise her younger brother so he could grow up to be a dependable man in spite of his family members. But he was at the wrong place at the wrong time and got himself locked up from burglary, and now Macy feels like she truly has failed at everything, failed at her marriage, raising her brother, and her college education. Now at 25m she is working as a pizza delivery girl to put herself through law school. When she finds out her brother breaks out of prison to protect his new g/f from her ex, a fellow prison mate who has also escaped and who also happens to be threatening Macy, as well, she finds out her life is going to be be completely disheveled as she meets FBI investigator Jake Baldwin, who instantly takes a liking to her as he does some private duty protection in her home as a safeguard from the convict threating to kill her. This twisted plot keeps you on the edge of your seat as you read it from many different perspectives, which I absolutely loved!!! The romance is steamy, the banter is witty, and the plot keeps you guessing as you try to figure out what will happen in this mystery romance thriller.

Review:

"Gotcha!" by Christie Craig was a sweet contemporary romance with some humor, drama, mystery and suspenseful read. This was definitely one of those reads that once you started you will not want to put it down until the end. I found the read a fast paced read with a lot of characters that were simply off the chart well developed in helping produce a well written story. I loved how this author was able to give us a script with so much going on, however, it was all covered very well in this long read. The hero and the heroine were really .... well this is where I say you must pick up "Gotcha" and we will see if the guy can get the girl alone with the other crimes that were going on in the read.

If you are looking for a read with some romance, suspense and humor, you have come to the right place for "Gotcha" will give it all to you in this amazing good read that I would recommend.

I'm very surprised by this book. And not in a good way. I enjoyed the overall story line, however I would expect an author from the NY Times best seller list to have produced a better proof-read and edited book. The author and the publisher should both be embarrassed with the many spelling/punctuation and editing mistakes that were allowed to pass. If I had purchased this as a physical book (as opposed to downloading the ebook to my Nook) I would have red-penned the hell out of it and sent it straight back to publishing house. It's quite sad that this is the quality we get from a "best selling author" when I would have gotten an "F" if I had attempted to turn in something with the same amount of mistakes to my professor in college.

I downloaded this book for free but if I had paid for it, I would say it was worth the money! It does have quite a few errors throughout, full stops where they shouldn't be and missing " but please don't let it put you off. After all it's FREE and even if it weren't, it's an enjoyable read. I liked the story line, the author really did reel me in and keep me hooked. It's a real page turner which I read in no time because I couldn't put it down. The main character was funny and I fell in love with the alpha male, never mind her nan! The ending was a bit soppy and predictable but of course they were going to end up together. It's what we all want. I will be looking out for more books by this author.

This was a really fun book to read. It's perfect for a lazy day on the beach when you just want to enjoy what you're reading and not tax your brain too much. It had a few laugh out loud moments and what I really loved about this book is that normally in books like these, the heroine magically turns into Sherlock Holmes/ James Bond and I'm sooo glad this book didn't go down that route. Yes, the heroine played a part in finding her brother but she did not magically become an amazing sleuth. At the same time, she was not a pushover. This book had a good mixture of action, romance and humour and was a joy to read.

As Always in all the books I have read of hers it was outstanding. My new favorite quote is "That will happen as soon as hell turns into a snowy winter wonderland that Santa lists among his top ten favorite places to visit".

Her humor is outstanding, love reading her books, I always in up laughing out loud somewhere through her stories. Macy and Jake both have trust issues, grandmother is a trip and mom is a sad little lady. Will Macy find true love and what happens to mom? guess you will have to read to find out. As New York Times said: Live...Laugh... Read

You won't be disappointed.

4.5/5✴ A great read! The book had me cracking up or smirking or grinning the entire time.I thoroughly enjoyed the back and forth between the hero and heroine. The constant tug-of-war was fun to read about but the scene with the tug-of-war in the literal sense had me throwing my head back and laughing till i was red. The only reason i gave it less than 5stars was because of the ending. It didn't live up to the standard of the rest of the book but it was still pretty acceptable. Now I'm off to go raid the author's bookshelf ;)

There was some suspense, some romance, and I enjoyed the multiple narratives. There was also quite a bit of humor thrown in, which I always love!

But I never really found myself hooked, despite the suspense. So I'd say, overall, an okay read.

Macy has a messed up life ~ abusive father who left (left her mother devastated); grandfather who died in his plate of spaghetti after telling her he'd take her to the circus; brother in jail for being in the wrong place at the wrong time (stupid boy) and an ex-husband who cheated on her but thinks she will slide back into his arms whenever he doesn't have anybody else lined up (wrong) but tries not to let things stand in her way of earning her college degree (law). Her brother does another stupid thing while in jail (no surprise there) which results in an inmate deciding to hurt Macy in order to call things even. And of course he breaks out of jail. Enter Officer Jake Baldwin. All around good guy who essentially wants Macy from the moment he laid eyes on her. She's attracted but doesn't trust men and puts him through the wringer before deciding that she also has feelings. A few wacky situations and some tense moments when her house is vandalized and she is shot at but still this little firecracker is determined to stay at her place and decline/evade the police protection she is provided so she can stick her nose into the investigation ... never thinking about the consequences to her health or Jake's career. She's trouble with a capital T but I find myself liking her and him together & am happy that they can work things out.

~Good fun adventure
~This is more of a romance than a murder mystery. I say that for two reasons, first we know right from the beginning exactly who the bad guy is…and as the story progresses, we come to realize just how bad he is. And secondly, there is romance. Now I’m not going to give spoilers…that’s just not a nice thing to do. But I will say that there is plenty of romance in the story.
~Is this really a “cozy” novel? Well, in my experience the cozy novel genre tends to have romance, but nothing too hot or steamy. That’s where this story veers away from the cozy category. There are plenty of steamy scenes between couples…and this is okay, long as you know what you are getting into.
~I found this to be a well written story, even if there was no mystery to solve. The story still moved along and was very detailed and kept my reading interest.
~There was also a certain amount of character development. As the story unfolded, we learned more and more about all the main characters and the main satellite characters. It was even interesting to see the growing work relationship and respect between the main detective and his fairly recently assigned partner.
~I would definitely recommend this book.

SUCH A GREAT READ!!!!!

Loved this book.....the story was interesting, engrossing and so darn good I couldn't put it down!!! All the characters in this book have such delightful quirks and personalities you want them for your own friends. Christie manages to weave all of the multiple story lines together in such a seamless and clever way.... the action and intrigue hooks you deeply into the story and the sexy, sweet and swoon worthy romances intertwined throughout the book are beautifully done.......and you find yourself rooting for all of them as if they were real people!!! Don't miss this book....you will laugh your head off.....smile a lot and be very glad you bought it!!!!
