Ilias Merrick's parents were told by the Oracles he would be a hero. His parents saved all they could to send him to the Order of the Iron Fists. Merrick is chosen to be Peacekeeper, whose duty is to ensure peace remains among the cities and towns. However, Merrick's first solo mission isn't going according to plan.
Eirelana Grimsley is a woman with a grudge. After her daughter dies of a mysterious illness, Eirelana vows to get revenge on the husband that abandoned them. On the hunt for her husband, Eirelana seduces unfaithful married men. She takes their money and gives it to their wives for a new start.
Merrick and Eirelana cross paths in the town of Bracklewhyte. Begrudgingly, they agree to assist each other. However, the pair must work together when the local baker's family is brutally slaughtered by an unknown creature.
Interesting..? I’m not sure how to feel. At the beginning I liked the book less than when I finished it, but that’s just because as the chapters went on the writing got slightly better. It went from single short sentences that only had a few words to actual descriptive sentences somehow. The idea of the plot I liked and at some parts I felt hooked, but the majority of the time it felt rushed and like I was reading a children’s book with how the sentences were written.
Also, hard to tell if this is just a single standalone book or if there will be more because the end was really abrupt and they didn’t finish doing what they were gonna do. It just ended with Merrick being like “let’s go find your husband” to Eirelana and then never showing the rest lol
Was interesting, I’m conflicted lol

“I choose you over the Order. I choose you, Eirelana.” (Merrick)
There was nothing to dislike about this book. I'm hoping there are others to follow. I'm going to recommend this to my other friends who love to read as much as I do. We all like the same type of books. The author Brittany Russell is a great story teller with a gift of fluid writing making you feel like your in the story.
