its such a tragic state of affairs when a series you love has become a story you are no longer enjoying. but BM has seriously lost the plot with this latest installment and it is nowhere to be found.
which is crazy considering this book is 800 pages long. but its 800 pages of unnecessary drama, questionable characterization, a journey/mission that has began to meander, and gimmicks used to weakly propel the story into the next book.
so, with the plot losing its focus and feeling like there is no longer an end in sight, im not sure i am willing to sit through another book of pointless filler. if i had confidence that the plot was going to progress, i would be looking forward to book #5, but i dont think it will. so this is probably where i will sadly part ways with this series.

[It’s going to be a VERY long review and more than half of it about my favorite ship, Lucenna and Klyde 😅]
I really like this saga and this book, it’s going among the ones that captured me the most this year and couldn't stop thinking about. The story is good and engaging, the world vast and most of all I adore the ensemble of characters, they are the best part of the series. I try out a lot of fantasy books, and the premise is similar in many and I have to admit in the first one I was not so invested in the story as I am now (there were a lot of pieces to place on the board and it takes time), the thing that made it stand out to me and made me make the excellent decision to keep reading was the fact that I adored the characters and their dynamics, the found family aspect and the friendship that was built between them. They are still my favorite thing even after getting invested with the whole story and world.
Kudos to the writer because all the characters have very distinctive and well developed personalities, they are all different, in way of thinking, acting and wants, and that’s not easy with so many of them. Obviously I like and am attached to some more than others, but that is due to personal preference.
The plot is really engaging like I said, and it follows the main story, with the race to Mount Ida against Tarn, and other side storylines involving the individual characters, in this one the spotlight is on Rawn’s (YES!).
I’m gonna express right now my unpopular opinion, apologize to everyone: Dyna and Cassiel romance bores me a bit. I like them and I do want them to be together and happy, but they don’t have my heart and I don’t need so many of their scenes when there are more interesting events and characters.
I’m fond of Dyna, even though sometimes she irritates me, venting her anger on everybody around her, acting without thinking or listening to anybody (the mess with Rawn was her fault and how many times was she warned against using the water mirror?!).
Cassiel’s grief was heartbreaking and I want him to be happy; he’s not my type tho, too gloomy and dramatic. It crossed my mind that he could pass the crow to his cousin if at the end he and Dyna don’t want it.
Now, what I can't get enough of and deserves more page time are my golden trio of favorite characters, Rawn, Lucenna and Klyde, and the romance between Lucenna and Klyde.
I liked that in this book we dove more into Rawn’s story, his past, his family and the elves world. Rawn is a great character, honorable, thoughtful, cool archer with an enviable calm energy that can threaten people while being perfectly composed, as far as I’m concerned, he’s always right and he’s the true heart and glue of the group. I’m happy we explored more of his side of things, it seems his story is inspired by Odysseus, with his Penelope, Telemachus and the suitors circling, and it’s done really well. Rawn deserves his happy ending, at the end he better be reunited with his wife, who he never stopped loving and who never stopped loving him after 20 years apart (they are so cute together, their flashbacks were great and reunion so emotional).
“If I did not already love you as much as I do, that display would have left me irrevocably besotted, Lord Norrlen.” [I feel you girl]
And with his son. I was very invested in Rawn and Raiden relationship and felt bad for the both of them: we know what kind of man Rawn is and that he never stopped thinking about his family, everything he does is for them, but Raiden never knew his father, he felt anger at the unfairness and fear that maybe his father didn't care. The moment they saw each other I was holding my breath and their talk was much needed. They lost so much time and deserves to be all together as a family to make up for it, Rawn and Aerina are also having another baby! Happy ending deserved.
“There is no burden I would not carry for you and your mother. No mountain I would not cross to find my way home again.”
That was the thing when one removed their armor. Without it, nothing else protected you.
I absolutely love Lucenna, her fight and storyline, 100% my favorite female character, and I want to see her succeed and see the women in the Magos Empire gain their freedom and dispose of all of those small men that make themselves feel important and strong by controlling them, because they know if given the same opportunities the sorceresses are stronger than them. Lucenna is a powerful sorceress, she’s resourceful, a bit cynical and tough as hell, sharp-tongued and one that would fight with everything in her, sometimes she’s rush and pushes people away because of her trust issues, but even her tough love comes from a place of caring, she has a big heart underneath.
Klyde is the perfect man and just my type. Charming, funny, a bit cocky and flirty but also protective, focused, capable, smart and dangerous. He is the kind of person who would do anything for the people he loves and for a long time that list was limited to the people he took care of, his family, his sister, his best friend and most of all his nephew that he loves like a son, then he met Lucenna and there is now another person he would do anything for. And obviously he’s an honorary member of the group as much as the guardians and is coming to Mount Ida. He is the kind of male character I fall in love with and he is perfect in all his scenes with Lucenna.
They are amazing as individual characters and together.
“You’re angry that this is your life and how helpless it makes you feel. So now you must prove to the world that you’re not.”
She gritted her teeth. “I am not helpless.”
“I know, lass. You’ve never had to prove it to me.”
I can’t express enough how much I need the next book, especially considering how this one ends, we are in for Lucenna’s story, the mages world and more Lucenna and Klyde.
The ending was a punch to the stomach and destroyed me. Let’s state facts: Klyde is not dead, that is nonnegotiable, and he loves Lucenna so much, he would never betray her, he had every opportunity if that was the case, instead he fought to keep her safe and away from mages, he was terrified for her and everything he said about his feelings is true.
“Did you really expect me to leave? You can’t do that, Lucenna. You can’t toss me aside like I am some rubbish to forget in the rain. Damn whatever comes. I am with you. From here to the end.”
I think he made a deal with the mages to protect Tavin before he knew her (“I was willing to do anything by whatever means necessary to protect Tavin against him. At whatever cost … even if I came to later regret it.” Klyde’s gaze returned to her, and his brow furrowed as if it weighed on him.), then he met her and fell in love with her, and everything changed.
“I am possessed by you,” Klyde admitted quietly, and her heart stopped. “From the very first moment I laid eyes on you I was done for. You have occupied my mind everyday since.”
That’s why Lucenna’s uncle was surprised and angry with Klyde during their confrontation and asked him “What are you doing?”, not because Klyde repelled magic but because he was protecting Lucenna instead of delivering her. He had backed out of that job.
And why he defended Cassiel, “It’s a terrifying thing to bear your heart to others and reveal every truth and lie … because what if they can’t forgive you for it? What if the truth is so unbearable, speaking it aloud will destroy everything you’ve come to love?”; he loves Lucenna and he felt guilty not telling her the truth, but he was scared of losing her. And he was about to tell her in the epilogue!
Of course he made a mistake by not telling her everything sooner because the reason Lucenna was found was her taking off the ring, it hid her and Klyde knew, but it was done out of fear not ill intent, and when he realized and the mages arrived he was so scared for her and tried to protect her with everything he had. Now, after Dyna heals him, he has to go rescue Lucenna and clear the matter, because she has difficulty trusting people and letting them in, she expects betrayal and fears being hurt, but she trusted him, let him in, felt safe with him and fell in love with him.
It was absurd how easily he made her defenses drop. Her next inhale was filled with his scent, and it occurred to her then, why her glamour continued to fail when she was with him.
Because Klyde made her feel safe.
Also, now she thinks he’s dead and it’s her greatest fear all over again, that she would cause the death of someone she loves, she fought against her feelings for him for so long for that exact reason; how much she must be suffering! They had admitted their feelings and had been so happy together for a few months, I need that back; so they need to fix this so they can fight the Magos Empire together, get married and live happily ever after.
“Once Tavin is safe, I will return to you. Then I will help you find your Moonstone and take down the Archmage.”
Lucenna gasped softly. “What?”
“My wicked storm. You will blow through the empire, and I plan to be right by your side, watching as you do.”
They are perfect together. They have a lot of chemistry and sexual tension that could burn a city(chapters 72 and 91 🔥), they have banter, swoony moments and a deep connection where they can open up with each other. Klyde understands her, he can take her anger and be as stubborn as her, and he has slowly thrown down her walls, she can be vulnerable with him and learn to accept help, because he would not think her weak for it, actually he is in awe of her and her strength and just wants to be there and have her back. I ship them so much and all of their moments are the best, 6 stars. Them getting together was what I was waiting for the most, now them reuniting is. Give more of them to me!!
“You have bewitched me, lass. How could you expect me not to fall hopelessly in love with you?”
As Lucenna looked at this wonderfully ridiculous man, she knew in that moment, she wanted him forever. It was a frightening feeling, but for once she was not afraid of the future anymore. Because she was ready to have him.
Other random thoughts.
God how much I am waiting for a real confrontation between Klyde and Tarn, it’s in my top “waiting for ” moments, and the messy family dynamic between Klyde, Tarn, Tavin, Gale, Von and Von’s mother is so engaging to me and the backstory that grips me the most.
I knew that kid (Tavin) and I had a problem. You don’t have a clue about anything Tavin! I’m waiting to hear you say that you already have a father, one that actually deserves the title, Klyde, and a good family.
I spent 3 books wanting to bang Von’s head against a wall to get through his thick skull the obvious truth about his situation with Tarn and what he had to do, yet now I’m fond of him, at the end of this one I was cheering for him like it was a sport match because he managed to follow Tarn and Tavin. Once Tavin starts to see who Tarn really is, Von, as someone who was stuck in a bad place for years and didn’t realize he could leave until the worst happened, could be the right person to convince Tavin that he can come back if he wants to.
Everest and Lucenna’s father and uncle must die in the next book.
Of course the last chapters were too happy to end the book like that, I knew pain was coming, but they will all reunite soon right?

Let me start by saying this was a highly anticipated read of mine. Sadly it just didn’t meet my expectations.
Now here are the problems that I had with this book. First of all the plot, or should I say the lack off it. This book was definitely more “drama”/filler driven then plot driven. There was no balance to be found when it came the storyline and the romance (more unnecessary drama imo). Which wouldn’t be a huge issue to me if this was the second or third book. But no, this was the fourth one and we still weren’t anywhere close to Mount Ida. The whole expedition/ mission took a backseat in this one, or should I rather say that it was basically non existing?
Which to be honest truly baffled me since they had limited time to reach the Mountain, get the medallion and save Dyna’s town and her beloved ones from the shadow. Throughout the book the plot wasn’t moving forward AT ALL, I genuinely felt stuck throughout the whole book. Which didn’t really make it easy to continue, especially when this over 1200 pages long.
If the whole being stuck in one place and all the filter chapters weren’t bad enough we got to experience the most unnecessary and dreadful love triangle I’ve ever read in my whole life. And now about the characters.
I didn’t like Dyna in this book AT ALL. I get that she was hurting, grieving and dealing with the broken pieces of her heart that Cassiel left behind, healing is never a pretty journey, nor does it have to be. But once you start lashing out (for no reason) at everyone who is trying to help you, or at any bit of honesty that is thrown in your face, that’s when I stop emphasizing. What frankly bothered me the most is that the whole “grief, pain” storyline got added into the book mainly for Dyna’s character development and for her growth but sadly enough that was just not the case.
There was no growth to be found at all nor was there any self reflection. The only thing that changed was the sassy attitude she took on. And even that felt like a whole facade, not at any point did it come across as convincing. She was still the immature girl who genuinely had the capacity of logical reasoning of a 10 year old. She made hasty decisions without consulting anyone (as result putting others in danger), was the whole time unnecessarily stubborn and combative and also just plain stupid. I also found her very hypocritical and self-centered. Besides all this not once did she try to comprehend what happened to Cassiel and why he made the decision that he made. It was all about “ i’m weak, i’m weak, i’m weak” (which to be honest she was but that’s beside the point). It took for Cassiel to nearly die and lose his wings that she finally saw that he loved her. The author really missed the mark when it came to making Dyna “strong”.
Cassiel, they could never make me hate you my love. Oh the amount of times I broke down while reading his chapters. I genuinely felt that he was let down by everyone in the group which was quite saddening to read about. Not once did someone try to give him the benefit of the doubt, nor did anyone try to understand and hear his side of the story. Even not when got confronted with the reason he did it, and even not when the realization sank in. He genuinely deserved better, better then his so called friends and better then his so called “mate”.
Rawn and Aerina’s relationship was one of the reasons I got through this book. Their story is as heartbreaking as beautiful.
Also the last part with Tavin didn’t make sense to me at all, there were a lot of unanswered questions and I’m not sure if I’m willing to stick around to find out.
I still have a lot of things to say but I’ll just let it be. This was a 2.5 ⭐️ read and that’s me being generous.
Now here are the problems that I had with this book. First of all the plot, or should I say the lack off it. This book was definitely more “drama”/filler driven then plot driven. There was no balance to be found when it came the storyline and the romance (more unnecessary drama imo). Which wouldn’t be a huge issue to me if this was the second or third book. But no, this was the fourth one and we still weren’t anywhere close to Mount Ida. The whole expedition/ mission took a backseat in this one, or should I rather say that it was basically non existing?
Which to be honest truly baffled me since they had limited time to reach the Mountain, get the medallion and save Dyna’s town and her beloved ones from the shadow. Throughout the book the plot wasn’t moving forward AT ALL, I genuinely felt stuck throughout the whole book. Which didn’t really make it easy to continue, especially when this over 1200 pages long.
If the whole being stuck in one place and all the filter chapters weren’t bad enough we got to experience the most unnecessary and dreadful love triangle I’ve ever read in my whole life. And now about the characters.
I didn’t like Dyna in this book AT ALL. I get that she was hurting, grieving and dealing with the broken pieces of her heart that Cassiel left behind, healing is never a pretty journey, nor does it have to be. But once you start lashing out (for no reason) at everyone who is trying to help you, or at any bit of honesty that is thrown in your face, that’s when I stop emphasizing. What frankly bothered me the most is that the whole “grief, pain” storyline got added into the book mainly for Dyna’s character development and for her growth but sadly enough that was just not the case.
There was no growth to be found at all nor was there any self reflection. The only thing that changed was the sassy attitude she took on. And even that felt like a whole facade, not at any point did it come across as convincing. She was still the immature girl who genuinely had the capacity of logical reasoning of a 10 year old. She made hasty decisions without consulting anyone (as result putting others in danger), was the whole time unnecessarily stubborn and combative and also just plain stupid. I also found her very hypocritical and self-centered. Besides all this not once did she try to comprehend what happened to Cassiel and why he made the decision that he made. It was all about “ i’m weak, i’m weak, i’m weak” (which to be honest she was but that’s beside the point). It took for Cassiel to nearly die and lose his wings that she finally saw that he loved her. The author really missed the mark when it came to making Dyna “strong”.
Cassiel, they could never make me hate you my love. Oh the amount of times I broke down while reading his chapters. I genuinely felt that he was let down by everyone in the group which was quite saddening to read about. Not once did someone try to give him the benefit of the doubt, nor did anyone try to understand and hear his side of the story. Even not when got confronted with the reason he did it, and even not when the realization sank in. He genuinely deserved better, better then his so called friends and better then his so called “mate”.
Rawn and Aerina’s relationship was one of the reasons I got through this book. Their story is as heartbreaking as beautiful.
Also the last part with Tavin didn’t make sense to me at all, there were a lot of unanswered questions and I’m not sure if I’m willing to stick around to find out.
I still have a lot of things to say but I’ll just let it be. This was a 2.5 ⭐️ read and that’s me being generous.

Live, laugh, love Beck Michaels!! This is exactly what I consider to be a perfect fantasy book. It did everything right! Not a single dull moment, and it tugged at my heartstrings the whole way through. With not only the characters and their relationships, both platonic and romantic, but also with the way the book went about their grief and struggles, I found solace between these pages in a way I wasn't expecting. I NEED THE NEXT BOOK ASAP

4.5⭐️ wow.... this was worth the wait as Shattered Souls left feeling emotional...but this was even more of an emotional rollacoaster ride.
We learn so much about some characters, as I was so please to see Rowan and his backstory. and we FINALLY MEET HIS FAMILY !

Rising Dawn is the 4th book in a Fantasy Romance series that I’ve been obsessed with since the first book released and I can certainly say that this series keeps getting better and better with each book, I love this fascinating world the author created and all the characters and I already can’t wait for the next book.
Rising Dawn begins shortly after the ending of Shattered Souls and after everything that happened there, I was desperate to read Rising Dawn ASAP and it definitely didn’t disappoint. I was hooked since the first page, the plot was perfectly paced with a lot happening, we got to explore even more of this fascinating world and I loved seeing all the new places. This is definitely the most emotional book of the series and I can’t count how many times I cried, Beck put us through a real roller coaster of emotions and I loved every second of it. I was a bit angry at Cassiel after what happened at the end of book 3 and definitely understood Dyna and her anger, but it was heartbreaking to see him deal with consequences of his decisions, both he and Dyna went through so much heartbreak in this book and I couldn’t help but root for them to find their way back to each other, they were so perfect for each other and I hope to see them happy together in the next book. The second couple I was rooting for were Lucenna and Klyde, these two had such a great banter and I could see the attraction between them during all their scenes together and I can’t wait to see more of them in book 5, especially after what happened at the end of this one. I also loved all the other characters, Beck definitely knows how to write a found family trope and it was great to see Zev, Von, Keena and Rawn again (we learn more about Rawn and his family here and I loved all those scenes, set both in the past and present).
Rising Dawn is a great continuation to this amazing fantasy romance series, I love all this characters and can’t wait to see them again. If you enjoyed the previous books in this series, I’m sure you’re going to love this one too, and if you haven’t started this series yet, trust me, you don’t want to miss it, it's truly incredible.

what a journey! rising dawn was my most anticipated read of the year and it did not disappoint!!! This whole series is one of my favorite series ever and the thing I absolutely love the most about it, is the unique magic system & the nuanced characters! Beck does such an amazing job writing complex characters, each and every one has a story to tell and I love being able to explore each POV! There was a lot of hurt and healing in this one after the events in shattered soul and I LOVED how each character understood and accepted how each individual dealt with that hurt & healing.
I loved Dyna's journey post Shattered Souls, the way she tried to fix what Cassiel broke was hard to read through at times & I didn't always agree with her methods (ie: the whole Rawn situation) but although it was flawed and imperfect it was REAL. Because let's be real healing is never linear and it's never a smooth journey. & that rawness & realness we're able to see is my absolute favorite thing.
Other tidbits:
I loved how Zev was understanding of Cassiel's pain, I was not expecting that at all given his temper, but it reflects his growth so well.
I loved reading about Rawn and meeting his family, even though my man was GOING THROUGH IT!!
It was nice to get his story!
My heart hurt for Cassiel & all he was put through as well, but I love how he took accountability and NEVER stopped fighting!
Tavin needs to be put in time out INDEFINITELY for the shit he pulled OMG!! I hope Klyde & Von give him the talking of a life time!!
I hope Von and Keena are safe. I need to know what happens!!

This was worth the wait. This was a healing journey I needed. I felt every emotion and moment. Beck’s writing always sucks me in. When I first got my hands on this book I couldn’t put it down. Then I didn’t want to let it go.
This series is one of my all time favorites. If you haven’t started the Guardians of the Maiden series yet, I highly recommend. This is the fourth book in the series and picks up the pieces of a broken soul. *spoilers ahead for previous books*
When grief takes control of you, will you survive? Or become a monster?
Dyna is shattered. She’s never felt this kind of broken and no one can save her. She journeys through these emotions on her own. (If this isn’t eldest daughter syndrome at its finest. As an eldest daughter, I felt this journey, but also wanted to shake some sense into her.) Cassiel is drowning in fire. Both have chosen angry. Where will this path take them?
Also, we got lots of tension from Lucenna and Klyde.
Keena is one of my favorites. She has so much personality for the littlest one in the group.
Daddy Rawn. Literally he is the father of the group and I need to give him a hug.
Zev is the older brother we all want in our lives. He has so much love for his cousin and is doing everything he can to help her through the grief.
The journey to Mount Ida continues in this book. Join the journey.

What a journey! I have been fan of Beck since her very first book and I will be a fan even if the world disappears. I rarely cry, but she managed to make me SOB 3x!!! Like really - ugly cry. My soul was emotionally wrecked and I swear to the stars, I had physical heart pain, my friend. It was all panic and no disco! But I'm glad I was suffering along the guardians.
This series offers exploration of its characters' lives, weaving an epic tale that goes far beyond a simple journey and the events that transpire there. It shows us the weight of their decisions and the influence of those who come into their lives. Those who stay with us, those who teaches us and those who move on. This chunky story is not as big as Shattered Souls but it packs a punch and feels like several separate installments (flawlessly intertwined). Also, there were some twists I did not see coming. Hello? THE ENDING? DRUID? gosh!!!
You will experience grief, anger, madness, helplessness, resilience, doubts, absolute heartbreak, trickstery and love. Rising Dawn is a great continuation of the series and I can't wait to see what will happen in the following 3 books (as Beck mentioned, GOTM will be 7-book series).
Also, how I wish D and C standoff was animated or properly adapted to TV 😍🤌

So I had this really long review planned out, but honestly, you have to read this beauty for yourself.
It was so emotional and good. Did not think I would cry that much, but that should tell you just how invested you get into these characters.

RATING: 5 stars and beyond!
Rising Dawn, book 4 in Beck Michaels Guardian of the Maiden series, is without a doubt my most anticipated read of 2024! After the absolute masterpiece and emotional wreckage that Beck gave us with book 3, Shattered Souls, I did not think that it could get any better. Well, Beck has done it again and delivered an even more incredible and stunning work in Rising Dawn.
***CAUTION: POTENTIAL SPOILERS IF YOU HAVE NOT READ OTHER BOOKS IN SERIES***
Rising Dawn picks up amidst the aftershocks Beck left us with in book 3. We find Dyna and her guardians absolutely reeling from unexpected betrayals and shocking revelations. Dyna’s heartbreak is a palpable and painful companion as Beck takes us through the start of the story. As we follow Dyna’s struggle to focus on her original quest, Beck walks us through each stage of her grief. Even as her guardians do their best to support and comfort her, Dyna is determined to channel her anger into a singular focus to defeat Tarn at his own game. However, decisions made in anger never lead to good things, a lesson Dyna will learn in many ways throughout this book.
At the same time, Cassiel, now separated from the guardians and mourning the multiple losses in his life and the ramifications of the choices he has made, leans in to the fire of his vengeance as he burns his way through the celestial realm. His spiral into denial and rage was probably the most difficult journey to go on as part of this story. However, as a reader, you can also see Beck laying the foundations for critical healing and acceptance for this beautifully complicated man. Through Cassiel’s struggles, Beck’s vulnerability as an author allows readers to explore their own experiences with these difficult emotions and to feel seen, which is a treasured gift as a reader.
One of the things I adore about this series is that while there is the overarching quest that Dyna and her guardians are on and the main relationship between Dyna and Cassiel, Beck also weaves in the individual side arcs of each of our guardians. It was really interesting to learn more about our green elf captain and group wisdom daddy, Rawn. It was very entertaining and fascinating to learn of his world and the warring elven clans. And with all of the intense emotional upheaval, I found myself saying a great big ‘thank you’ for the fiery banter and snappy flirtation and snark between our fierce sorceress Lucenna and the rugged captain of the Skellings, Klyde. These two made me smile and laugh so much and boy did we need it.
It is clear how personal and poignant the writing of this story was for Beck. It is something the you can feel grab you from off the page from the smallest of intimate moments to the biggest, jaw dropping twists. She masterfully tackles some incredibly difficult and complex themes from grief, to heartache, to betrayal and loss. However, she does it in such a beautifully sensitive way, that you cannot help but be touched by the journey that these characters have to go through. I found myself sobbing through almost five chapters straight because I was so moved. This complexity of emotions is one of my favorite things about Beck’s writing and you can see how it all contributes to the way in which each character grows individually and also in their relationships with each other.
Once again, Beck leaves the most shocking and devastating for her nail biting cliffhanger, a signature of hers throughout this series. Days and even weeks after finishing this book, I still found myself in awe and going through emotional withdrawal, so of course I was going back to read my favorite bits. It is Beck’s best book yet in the series and I cannot wait until we find out what happens next to Dyna and her guardians, now dealing with more trouble that threatens to take them further off their course. If you have not read this series, I cannot recommend it enough!

Rising Dawn, book 4 in Beck Michaels Guardian of the Maiden series, is without a doubt my most anticipated read of 2024! After the absolute masterpiece and emotional wreckage that Beck gave us with book 3, Shattered Souls, I did not think that it could get any better. Well, Beck has done it again and delivered an even more incredible and stunning work in Rising Dawn.

Rising Dawn picks up amidst the aftershocks Beck left us with in book 3. We find Dyna and her guardians absolutely reeling from unexpected betrayals and shocking revelations. Dyna’s heartbreak is a palpable and painful companion as Beck takes us through the start of the story. As we follow Dyna’s struggle to focus on her original quest, Beck walks us through each stage of her grief. Even as her guardians do their best to support and comfort her, Dyna is determined to channel her anger into a singular focus to defeat Tarn at his own game. However, decisions made in anger never lead to good things, a lesson Dyna will learn in many ways throughout this book.
At the same time, Cassiel, now separated from the guardians and mourning the multiple losses in his life and the ramifications of the choices he has made, leans in to the fire of his vengeance as he burns his way through the celestial realm. His spiral into denial and rage was probably the most difficult journey to go on as part of this story. However, as a reader, you can also see Beck laying the foundations for critical healing and acceptance for this beautifully complicated man. This is one of my anticipated reads of the year and is one of my top reads now as well. ❤️
This book is character driven and Beck fleshes them out so well. Every single one of them. I really love how each character is developed. They just feel raw and genuine to me. Imakes me root for them through my bones and my heart.
💚Dynalya, after Shattered Souls I was really looking forward to her Reputation era. She has found and sharpened her claws. I love it when women are fierce but I was saddened that she had to go through immense pain for that to happen. It’s a delicate balance to be sure. But I love that there is a new facet that makes up Dyna’s strength now.
😇 Cassiel, I’m salty with him back in Shattered Souls but we’re good now. When Beck said DEVOTION, Cassiel said YES!
🏹 Rawn, still the voice of reason and wisdom. The mother hen and the glue. ❤️
🖤 Tarn, oh god. I’m not supposed to find him hot but the man is just potent! There’s just something about villains written well, man. 😂

I just finished the latest installment of Guardians of the Maiden by Beck Michaels and I AM UNWELL.
This book was such a ride, I am still processing it. Beck packs so much action and character growth into each book, and the journey just keeps getting better and better.
I tried to make myself read this one slowly, but I still devoured it. I cried. I laughed. I stopped reading to stare into space with a dumb little smile. All of our characters really went on a journey in this one, y'all, and I think Beck did an outstanding job of balancing the many POVs and plot threads.
Highlights for me –
✨ I really enjoyed getting more of Rawn's backstory and (minor spoiler) finally seeing his homeland
✨ everything with Dyna and Cassiel forever. This goes for every book in this series, but ESPECIALLY this one. Cassiel groveled. He needed to grovel. Dyna put him in his place. And Beck gave us really satisfying reason for WHY everything went down the way it goes down in their relationship.
✨ Lucenna's character development, backstory reveals, and relationship with Klyde. I really do love them.
We meet new characters and get to see some familiar faces we haven't seen in awhile. I don't want to get too specific and ruin things for readers, so I will just say this – Guardians of the Maiden fans, please read this book ASAP. You will not be disappointed.

To delay and delay this book release, then make it as long as it was while nothing happened, then to end it with that CLIFFHANGER is such an accumulation of rude. I’m being gentle because clearly the author struggled with this one and probably was very hard on themselves to get this out there after having to delay so much… but I really can’t believe the couple getting me through this series was cliffhanger bait. I’m praying the next one doesn’t take nearly as long and the author has an easier go of it.
To be honest I am really over Dynalya and Cassiel’s story. I found myself skimming their chapters as it was so much of the same stuff. He had to leave to protect her, she is a broken and mean girl now, he is an emo boy because he messed up, she is an emo girl because she still loves him. Not to mention the (love triangle?) situation with Rawn’s son. Can you call it a love triangle when no one thought for even one second that those two were going to end up together? No chemistry, barely even friendship.
The plot is also pretty abandoned here, which is unexpected in the fourth book in a series. A 1,500 page filler book?? All that and not a single original problem was solved. We had some new conflicts introduced and some of those solved, but they were unnecessary side quests at best. And the thing with Tieran at the end made no sense to me.
My hopes for the next one is that it’s better pacing, moves the plot, and doesn’t focus as much on Dyna and Cassiel. Their story seems pretty wrapped up other than the medallion. I’ll still read it because Klyde and Lucenna are IT for me, but I could take or leave almost anything else.

This was a bit all over the place. I really loved Cassiel’s POV.
Dyna was a little irritating. Her anger seemed juvenile compared to Cassiel’s chapters that were literally full of grief and yearning.
Also - how much time has past??? Are we just forgetting about North Star? Fuck em I guess.
Rawn’s storyline was good but dang, can’t the man be with his wife to raise at least one baby??

RISING DAWN IS ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE WAIT!!
This giant book is an emotional roller coaster; I laughed, I cried and I smiled while reading this book.
Great writing style and fantastic storyline made it impossible to put down. I also like that the world building expanded again as we travelled to Rawn’s homeland and finally met the wife and son he talked about so much from the previous books.
The characters are utterly loveable, especially Dyna and Cassiel. I felt so proud of them in this book, they have a major character growth in this book . I liked the person they came to be at the end even though the process was painful to read which manage to made me cried several times….
As for the romance, Dyna and Cassiel are still my favorite couple – they are the definition of a power couple. Their chemistry and bond is now stronger than ever, I’m curious to know what other obstacles they will have to face through next.
There’s also a new couple rising – Klyde and Lucenna! Love seeing their bantering and flirting throughout the story!
Overall, this was a beautifully well-written story. A great addition to the series that comes with a HUGE CLIFF-HANGER at the end!!!
I’m really looking forward to read the next book in this series cause things are still far from over guys!

I don't even know where to start, this book broke me, put me back together, then broke me all over again.
Let's start with our broken souls, our darlings Cassiel and Dyna. The path back to each other was no easy feat but no matter how challenging or impossible it seemed at times, we always knew their deep unwavering love would bring them back.
Cassiel surprisingly was the tipping point to tears for me, whilst Dyna did really have me emotional but It was the High King that destroyed me.
Lucenna and our dashing mercenary Klyde, though not always in the spotlight were consistently a simmering pot awaiting to boil over. We have definitely set this turbulent duo up for an explosive journey in the next book with such a fire added to all those twists and turns.
Rawn, though often more painted as the level headed kind one, and he is, this book shone a different light. One of a fierce husband devoted ro the protection of his family, and there was one scene... that had me a little hot and bothered for the warrior elf.

I did it!! I finished all the books in this series that have been released so far!
This book was packed with emotions, grief, pain, betrayal, and sacrifice. But for some reason, I started getting bored.
And seriously, they still didn’t reach the island?! After everything?! I’m equal parts frustrated and impressed. Beck really knows how to keep us hanging.
But you know what? I’m glad this series is finally over (for now).

I was mad. sad and amazed I can’t wait for what’s next
I waited for such a long time for this book to come out. I was both anxious and excited when it finally released on Amazon Kindle I am one of the biggest fans. I have read every book that Beck Michaels have put out so I’ll waiting. I just was hopelessly Rereading the books reanalyzing and trying to figure out where she was gonna go with it. I was so mad it was taking so long then I was so excited because it came out with such amazing discoveries and questions that were being answered so I went from being mad to sad when it was over, but at the same time, I’ve been nothing but amazed this by far is the most capturing book series and I don’t know what my life is gonna be like while I’m waiting for the next installment I was going through a very sad moment and finding a world that I can escape to and one that I can relate towas just such an amazing miracle from my first heartbreak to Dan Castillos separation. I felt it I really embodied the characters based upon her descriptions. she has a way of telling stories that make you believe it make you feel like you were there. She’s by far one of my favorite authors and I am so excited to be here to wait for the next installments. This is a must rebook if you don’t read or even listen to the audible or even get the Kindle thing you’re missing out I read about 190 bucks a year and I reread this one so many times

If it wasn’t so invested in the characters, I would’ve stopped reading this whole series. The author does a fantastic job weaving and developing characters. However, there are SO MANY pages and a lot of dry, boring parts, it makes you want to put it down. Alas, I finished it. And of course, I love the characters enough to see the story end, so I will pick up the last book when it’s released, but PLEASE wrap the story up. No more books. We need to see mount Ida and we REALLY need to see the endings, faster than 0

Sleep be damned… I need ANSWERS. I want to see more of this new Dyna so badly. I’m still pissed at Cassiel, but I’m also relieved Dyna learned the hard lesson about protecting her mind. And in the warnings there’s “death of animals.” I can already see it. Fair will die. Damn it. In the epilogue we even see the end of the first king, Kahssiel. I’m furious with our Cassiel, but gods, I hope he doesn’t end like that again.
Dyna… holy hell. Her naivety died with Cassiel’s betrayal. Now she’s ruthless. Like really ruthless. Tarn was right: if she ever lets the monster out, it’s glorious. In her POV, it’s even clearer why Tarn clings to Witch’s Brew. Honestly, if Dyna had access to it right now, she might use it too. She’s starting to act like him, trusting no one. The only difference is that she still trusts her friends. If not for them, she’d be sliding full-Tarn. And Cassiel? He’s repeating his past-life mistake. His mate died then because he separated to “protect” her. The difference is that back then Dyna wasn’t a powerful sorceress.
That’s the new Dyna. The softness is gone. That girl died in the frozen lake. I don’t know how she and Cassiel can be together again. He broke his vows. Every last one. He thinks he’s protecting her, but he shattered her. She has the mirror too, and I think she talks to Tarn. They’re enemies, but there’s a weird “old veterans of pain” friendship there. She’s almost as bitter and broken as he is. They share more than is safe for her mental health. It’s hanging by a thread, and still she’s gentle and grateful with her pack.
I’m enraged that Cassiel justifies everything with “I did it for my mate.” This motherf— he basically killed his mate when he betrayed and abandoned her. The girl he knew is gone. I always wished Dyna would be more ruthless, and now that she is… I mourn who she was. It’s sad. And Cassiel? He has no idea what his actions did. The old Dyna could break over it. The new one? She doesn’t care. His choice wounded her mind.
The elf–horse bond goes deeper than I thought. One doesn’t live without the other. Poor Fair had a mate before… And Rawn’s wife? She’s a princess. Apparently heir to the throne. I guessed noble, but not top-tier royal. Zev and Dyna’s bond is beautiful. They truly are each other’s anchor. Zev would never betray her like Cassiel did. He’s better now, and he’s helping Dyna steady too. Plot twist: I did not see that coming. Destiny is wild in this series. Everyone’s fates are so tightly woven. I’m a little confused: is Sylar male or female? Elon’s mate?

Tarn is one of the most complex villains I’ve ever met. Hot and cold at the same time. There’s no real attraction between him and Dyna; they’re just similar souls now. That’s how much Cassiel’s betrayal broke her. Meanwhile, Dyna’s recklessness is back. Bad choice after bad choice.
Destiny in this world is a tangled masterpiece. They’ve suffered, grown, broken, hardened. Dyna’s lucky she has her pack, or she’d become Tarn… or Cassiel in his madness.
Cassiel’s past life… I’m not saying he was right to betray Dyna, but I can sympathize now. Maybe I’d do the same. I have a kink for martyr-flavored self-destruction, apparently.

This installment ripped out my spine and played jump rope with it. Dyna’s innocence is dead and buried; in its place stands a blade with a heartbeat. Cassiel’s love is volcanic, terrifying, and stupid in equal measure, and his mind is fraying in ways that finally make his worst choices make sense without excusing a single one. Zev remains the anchor, Rawn the compass, Lucenna the angry scalpel, and Tarn the beautifully broken mirror showing what Dyna could become if the pack ever lets go.
The lore keeps ballooning without breaking: rings, phoenix myths, Wild Fae politics, troll hellscapes, bond rites, and a prophecy that’s basically a loaded gun on every mantle. Stakes are personal and apocalyptic at the same time, which is exactly why I can’t breathe. Cassiel’s sanity hanging by a whisper, and Dyna’s heart by the thinnest sliver of trust left in the world.
Net result: I’m proud of Dyna, furious with Cassiel, soft for Zev, worried sick about Rawn, and shamelessly entertained by Tarn even when I shouldn’t be. The cliffhanger is criminal, the emotions feral, and the pacing violent in the best way. I’m not sleeping; I could be marching straight into the next book like a gremlin with a grudge, but I just discovered that the gods had no mercy for my book hangover and the next one isn’t out yet… damn me!!!

Sleep be damned… I need ANSWERS. I want to see more of this new Dyna so badly. I’m still pissed at Cassiel, but I’m also relieved Dyna learned the hard lesson about protecting her mind. And in the warnings there’s “death of animals.” I can already see it. Fair will die. Damn it. In the epilogue we even see the end of the first king, Kahssiel. I’m furious with our Cassiel, but gods, I hope he doesn’t end like that again.
Dyna… holy hell. Her naivety died with Cassiel’s betrayal. Now she’s ruthless. Like really ruthless. Tarn was right: if she ever lets the monster out, it’s glorious. In her POV, it’s even clearer why Tarn clings to Witch’s Brew. Honestly, if Dyna had access to it right now, she might use it too. She’s starting to act like him, trusting no one. The only difference is that she still trusts her friends. If not for them, she’d be sliding full-Tarn. And Cassiel? He’s repeating his past-life mistake. His mate died then because he separated to “protect” her. The difference is that back then Dyna wasn’t a powerful sorceress.
Because his sweet cousin was no longer the same. She had endured so much pain, it had sharpened her into a blade. The softness was gone, and so was her innocence. It’s what Zev had wanted to protect her from, but he couldn’t prevent the hardships of life any more than he could prevent time from stopping.
And he also didn’t need to.
He saw the predator growing inside of Dyna, and his wolf surfaced to acknowledge her.
“We are a Pack,” he said. “All we need is each other.”
That’s the new Dyna. The softness is gone. That girl died in the frozen lake. I don’t know how she and Cassiel can be together again. He broke his vows. Every last one. He thinks he’s protecting her, but he shattered her. She has the mirror too, and I think she talks to Tarn. They’re enemies, but there’s a weird “old veterans of pain” friendship there. She’s almost as bitter and broken as he is. They share more than is safe for her mental health. It’s hanging by a thread, and still she’s gentle and grateful with her pack.
I’m enraged that Cassiel justifies everything with “I did it for my mate.” This motherf— he basically killed his mate when he betrayed and abandoned her. The girl he knew is gone. I always wished Dyna would be more ruthless, and now that she is… I mourn who she was. It’s sad. And Cassiel? He has no idea what his actions did. The old Dyna could break over it. The new one? She doesn’t care. His choice wounded her mind.
The elf–horse bond goes deeper than I thought. One doesn’t live without the other. Poor Fair had a mate before… And Rawn’s wife? She’s a princess. Apparently heir to the throne. I guessed noble, but not top-tier royal. Zev and Dyna’s bond is beautiful. They truly are each other’s anchor. Zev would never betray her like Cassiel did. He’s better now, and he’s helping Dyna steady too. Plot twist: I did not see that coming. Destiny is wild in this series. Everyone’s fates are so tightly woven. I’m a little confused: is Sylar male or female? Elon’s mate?

Tarn is one of the most complex villains I’ve ever met. Hot and cold at the same time. There’s no real attraction between him and Dyna; they’re just similar souls now. That’s how much Cassiel’s betrayal broke her. Meanwhile, Dyna’s recklessness is back. Bad choice after bad choice.
Destiny in this world is a tangled masterpiece. They’ve suffered, grown, broken, hardened. Dyna’s lucky she has her pack, or she’d become Tarn… or Cassiel in his madness.

This was a long one. Too much happened and I was just skimming to get the plot by the end.
